The golden eyes belonged to a blue-skinned woman.
As her grip tightened around my neck, I felt my legs being lifted off the ground.
I had to act quickly.
I wrapped one arm around her hand at my throat and with the other I reached for the knife on my belt. I stabbed her in the arm and she let go with a yelp.
I fell to the ground and gasped.
"You little shit," she said as she pulled the knife out of her arm, which was completely unharmed.
She started walking towards me and I tried to run away, but she grabbed me violently by the hair and threw me to the ground. She kicked me hard in the stomach.
I cried out in pain and covered my stomach with my hands, which were now full of blood from my previous wound.
She put her arm on my face and I tried to fight off her touch. Her face was so close to mine.
"Now, now, Kathryn, relax. I am not going to hurt you," she said softly and laughed.
I glared at her and spat in her face.
She was caught off guard and whimpered in disgust.
She pulled me back by my hair and slammed my face on the ground.
"Hands off, Mystique!" I heard Logan's voice and saw the woman, Mystique, being thrown away from me.
He ran to me and helped me up.
"I'll take care of her, go, do not look back," he said, handing me my knife.
I nodded and started to run.
But let us just say that luck abandoned me today.
Out of nowhere the beast man appeared, blocking my way .
He back handed me and I fell against a tree.
I stabbed him in his leg and he cried out in pain.
He raised his hand with sharp claws and smashed it into my face.
I closed my eyes in fear and pain, I could smell the blood, I could feel it running down my cheek.
Slowly I opened my eyes and met his angry brown ones.
I grabbed the knife off his leg and stabbed him right in his left eye. He screamed out and reached for his eye, which was a bloody mess.
Without a second glance, I ran.
These people were crazy, dangerously crazy.
-Time Skip-
I went back to the orphanage and locked myself in the bathroom, took a needle and thread and started poking the needle into my skin and slowly stitching my wounds.
I bit my lips trying to be quiet, so I do not wake anyone up.
Silent tears ran down my cheeks as I looked in the bathroom mirror. My neck was bruised, I could see the tips of the woman's fingers. My stomach was bruised too, deep blue with splashed of yellow.
But worst of all were the three deep scars.
They started at my temple, went past my right eye, and ended next to my nose. They were deep and bloody red .
How am I supposed to cover that up?
I have covered scars before, but never this big and on my face.
"How the hell did I end up so fucked up?" I whispered to myself.
"That's life Kitty, a huge mess that we are supposed to deal with," I heard someone say and my eyes widened.
"What the hell?" I said, unlocking the door.
There he was, Lance fucking Alvers.
The beginning of my misery.
I slapped him, not too hard, but hard enough to hurt him.
"What the hell was that for?" he asked, surprised.
"For what you did in gym class today and for calling me Kitty!" I said to him angrily.
He laughed sarcastically, "Oh, I am sorry for protecting your ass, kitten!" he whispered to me.
Oh Lord, how can someone be so annoying?
"First of all, stop calling me kitten, and second of all, no one asked you to save my ass, so I'd really appreciate it if you'd leave me alone!" I whispered to him.
He grinned and laughed
"You are cute when you are angry," he said and I raised an eyebrow.
What the hell is going on in his head?
I pushed him out of the way and started to walk away, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
"What happened to your face?" he asked almost worried.
" It's none of your business, Alvers, so can you please ignore me again like you have been doing all these years?" I said and he smiled.
"It's different now," he said close to my ear and I pushed him against the wall and sneered
"What's different, Lance? Please tell me. Because I still see the same asshole in front of me!" I yelled out, my eyes meeting his.
"What's going on up here?"
Holy shit! Sister Mary! The head of the orphanage.
Me and Lance looked in the direction of the voice and then at each other.
"Run," we both said in sync and ran to the stairs and up to the roof.
I looked around. It was a beautiful night tonight. The stars and the moon were bright, the only source of light around. Since the orphanage we were staying at was a bit out of town, it was right next to the forest, which reminded me of today's events.
It reminded me of Logan.
What if he didn't make it ?
I thought and sat down on the edge of the roof and sighed.
Lance sat down next to me right after.
Sitting there under the stars, I felt like I was home.
Then suddenly I felt him brush a strand of hair out of my face and I backed away.
"I am sorry, I did not mean to scare you, I just wanted to take a look at your face, which looks pretty bad. What the hell happened to you?" he asked, his eyes softening.
"Even if I told you, you would not believe me anyway." my eyes widened as I realized I had said that out loud.
"Try me," he said with a smile and turned to me.
"A beast, kind of werewolf man and a blue lady attacked me and almost killed me," I laughed a little as the words left my mouth.
I looked at him, his eyebrows raised at me, then he turned back to the sky.
"The kids are right, you are a weirdo" he said and I grinned.
"Maybe I am," I said and he laughed.
After that there was silence.
I looked at him and then at my arms.
As memories of the scene in the locker room flooded my mind, the way he was able to control his powers, but mine just worked out of nowhere.
"How do you take control ?" I asked suddenly, he looked at me alarmed, but relaxed when he saw the sadness in my eyes.
"By admitting something that no one wants to cope to , that we are outsiders, that there is something wrong with us," he said and I looked down.
He put his hand to my chin and forced me to look at him.
"Hey, do not threaten it, embrace it, the way I see it, fate has dealt us winning cards if we play them together," he said softly, I felt like crying but I wasn't going to, not in front of him.
"Nothing makes sense," I admitted.
"That's why I am here, to light your path" he said and I scoffed in disbelief.
"How are you going to do that?" I asked.
He suddenly became serious.
"Meet me in the back of the school office tomorrow and I'll show you how."
He said and walked away leaving me with a million questions, should I go tomorrow?
Can I trust Lance Alvers?
