Kinda early with a follow up chapter to this story, but I really got into it and for the time being, my mind is more focused on this than my street fighter or My hero academia stories, but that doesn't mean I'm not working on them as well.
Now there was a review I want to address but I'll do that at the end. For now, enjoy.
Cemetery, Queens, NY.
"I'm guessing we can't settle this with a calm game of Jenga?" Peter quipped. Wolverine snarled and charged him with his claws. He was able to cut some of the chest off, but held back as to not slash and cause him to bleed.
"Hey! Lay off the threads bumblebee!" Wolverine got upset again.
"Stop joking and start talking bub! Where's the girl?!" Wolverine demanded.
"I don't know, but I'm not at liberty to tell you guys anything. Newsflash: You're terrorizing her."
Wolverine started to slash at Peter again, but Peter reacted quickly and started to do a series of flips backwards to avoid get more than his suit cut. "Geez, you're bad at this. First time fighting at all?" He hoped his strategy of making him mad to the point he slips up badly enough where he can wrap this up as soon as possible.
It was having the opposite effect.
Wolverine kept attempting to slash at him, but was getting more angry the more he missed.
"Stand still!"
"And spend 4 hours repairing my suit? No thank you." Peter ducked a right hook and kicked Wolverine away from him while using the kick to jump off of him. He immediately started to web him to the ground as he started falling back to the ground. With Wolverine webbed down, he went back to searching for the lost girl.
"Ok. If I was a runaway girl being chased by a bunch of super-powered people in a cemetery, where would I hide?"
Mausoleum.
Following Spider-Man's instruction, the girl ran towards the cemetery mausoleum to hide from the people chasing her and the fighting Spider-Man was doing.
"This can't be happening, this can't be happening." The girl was hiding behind a corner, as there wasn't any type of furniture to hide in or behind so she was hoping nobody could find her, or was looking for her currently. She tried to relax but was immediately hit with Cody's memories again. The amount of times she saw the same memories over and over again in one week was close to driving her crazy, much less not having a home to go back to.
She was so distracted by the memories of Cody, she didn't hear the person coming up right next to her. She turned and saw Jean, immediately falling to her back and trying to crawl away.
"G-get away from me!" The girl yelled. Jean approached her cautiously, walking slowly while talking.
"It's ok, it's ok. I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to help." The girl was beyond terrified, making the whole "talking to her" process more difficult than it usually was. However, Jean wasn't going to leave until she had some modicum of success.
"Where's the Spider guy?"
"I...I don't know." Jean admitted. "Look, this isn't the best circumstances to talk to you, we wanted to talk to you in a more calming setting, but we've heard about you being on the run for a week and we just wanted to make sure you were safe."
"Safe? Is that why y'all chased me and tried hurting me?"
"I swear we didn't." The girl was still on edge, which Jean noticed. Knowing she couldn't leave her alone, but staying with her wouldn't make her feel any safer. Deciding on an ultimatum she pulled out a spare communicator and placed it on the floor in front of them.
The girl saw this and was immediately confused. She looked back up at Jean, picking up the communicator and waiting for a response. That is when she heard another voice enter the building.
"All X-Men receive a communicator when they need help." The girl turned around to the voice and saw the woman who chased her earlier in the night.
Storm.
"Y-you...get AWAY FROM ME!" The girl started to bolt out of the mausoleum, confusing both of the X-Women there. Jean was the first to bring it up.
"What did you do to her?"
Storm looked back at Jean. "I have no idea. We have to catch up to her." Both of them ran out after her.
Cemetery.
Peter kept swinging around the cemetery, but couldn't find either the girl or and more of these costumed people.
"This is just great. First I get expelled and now I'm trying to save a girl from some super-powered group. Is this payback from not wearing green during St. Patrick's day?"
After a few minutes, he spotted the girl again, and saw she was being chased by another two of X-Men. He started to descend towards the girl, but was suddenly grabbed from behind and thrown off balance. He closed his eyes and when he opened them, he was falling towards the ground. The person grabbed onto him didn't let go, and m both of them tumbled to a rooftop overlooking the cemetery.
"Ughh...note to self, concrete is still the worst thing to land on." Peter was the first to recover and looked to his left, which revealed who tackled him midair. He saw a guy, who didn't look much like a guy but more like some type of alien or something the like as instead of normal skin, he had fur and he was completely blue.
"Let me guess, you're auditioning for the Blue man group? Gotta say, love the comment. You're even breaking into magic." The guy turned around to Peter and started slowly recovering himself.
"Vait a minute, you're ze Spider-Man!"
"Yes I am. You also tackled me, so unless you got a compelling reason as to why, I'll be going back to saving that girl from you guys." Peter showed a flurry of webs to stop the guy from getting up, but he ended up just teleporting out of the restraints, and ported back in sight, perched on the edge of the building.
"Ok, that was kind of cool."
"Sorry friend, but I think you're confused. Ve're not here to hurt her."
"Explain that to the guy who nearly blasted me and the other one who nearly made me a Spider kebab. Who are you guys anyways?"
"I can't tell you, for our own safety. But for now you can call me Nightcrawler."
"Ok Nightcrawler, speed round. Why are you guys chasing that girl?"
Nightcrawler instantly got a concerned look on his face. Peter could tell something had happened but unless he said something, Peter was going to stay out of the loop.
"She...she's a mutant."
"A mutant?"
"You don't know vhat mutants are? Aren't you one?"
Peter put his hands up. "Look as much as I'd like to go into the backstory of my powers, we don't got the time. What even is a mutant?"
"Someone born vith ze X-gene. Ve learned about her a few days ago but she kept jumping state to state. Eventually she stayed long in New York for us to pinpoint her, but now as you can see, it's not going good."
It was hard to deny that the whole story didn't sound completely made up. Despite the fact he's never heard of a mutant before, and the fact that Peter fought supervillains daily and was standing in front of a blue elf, made it nearly impossible to outright calm the story was made up.
"Ok, so what's her power that has you guys chasing her like psychopaths?"
"From what ve seen...and experienced." Nightcrawler said, slightly trailing off before fixing himself. "She can siphon ze powers of anyone she touches."
"And you know this how?"
"She did it to me." Peter's eyes expanded, which was visibly on his mask and spooked Nightcrawler. The latter of which would've continued if Nightcrawler didn't get a message on his communicator.
"Nightcrawler, where did you go?" A girl's voice came on through the communicator.
"Sorry Shadowcat, I vent on to continue finding ze Rogue." Nightcrawler responded.
"Yeah, well next time could you, like, wait for backup or let me know when you're safe? I thought you died."
"Sorry Kitty." Nightcrawler said lowly before realizing his mistake of saying Kitty's name outloud. He looked up, but saw that Spider-Man had disappeared during his call.
"Scheisse!" Nightcrawler yelled to himself.
Back to the cemetery.
"Ok, mystery girl is a Rogue. Until I found out an actual name, that's the new nickname." Peter went back into the cemetery and kept looking for the Rogue. He saw her hiding behind a tree and swung around, making sure she saw him before he landed behind her, as to not surprise her anymore.
"Spider-Man! Thank gawd your here." Rogue instinctively ran and hugged Peter without thinking, causing Peter to be really glad he had a mask on to hide his blushing.
"Y-yea. Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Being friendly...in the neighborhood." Rogue eventually realized what she was doing and was going to break the hug when she teleported the both of them high above the cemetery. Rogue held onto Peter tightly as he shot a web-line to a nearby building. He began to swing before being teleported again, this time back onto the ground, landing both of them on the ground hard.
"Note to my earlier self, the bare ground isn't much better to land on than concrete. It's arguably worse." Peter quipped. Both him and Rogue began to get up before his Spider sense went off. He tried looking for the point of where it could be, but wasn't fast enough to notice (and avoid) the laser beam from Cyclops. Peter took the blast head on, and it hit his chest, sending him flying away from Rogue and leaving a hole in the middle of his chest. His support to stop flying back was a tomb wall that he crashed into, rendering him unconscious for the time being.
Rogue looked terrified at him while slowly backing up. Cyclops was about to start talking when Storm beat him to it.
"What is the matter child? We are your friends." Storm reached out to Rogue's shoulder, but was met with her ungloved hand on her wrist instead. The pair of them started to yell in pain/shock. After a few seconds, Storm fell to the ground while Rogue fell to her knees, putting her hands on her head. The memories of Cody, Nightcrawler, Storm, and her own were driving her to the point of insanity. It didn't help matters when Storm's powers started acting autonomously through her, causing her to freak out more.
Peter started to come back to, slowly opening his eyes and seeing the hole he got put through, and the large hole in his suit.
"Great. It's going to be virtually impossible to fix that. Thanks twinkle eyes." Peter picked himself up and looked back outside to see a trio of the mystery people looking up towards Rogue, who was now floating in the air and causing a flurry of environmental damage.
"That's...definitely not good." He shot a web line to a nearby lamp post to assess the situation. Whatever happened to Rogue while he was recovering from the blast was asinine to how he could even attempt to fix this. She was causing destruction at a level he didn't even see with the Sinister Six. Her new power allowed her the control of extreme weather, and with that came hurricane speed winds that were ripping through everything not throughly in the ground.
Peter turned his attention to the three people Rogue originally was running from and saw they were staring at a loose active power line that was dangerously close to a pool of water Storm was in. Peter reacted quickly by jumping towards them and shooting a web line at Storm, pulling her out of the water just as the power line made contact with it. Storm looked up at her savior a slightly smiled.
"Thank you." She simply said. Jean and Cyclops both made their way to both of them, as eventually the rest of their squad caught up and saw the chaos unfolding.
"Great." Cyclops started. He turned his attention to Spider-Man. "This would've gone a whole lot smoother if you just didn't get involved."
"Seriously? You just conveniently forgot your blast first, ask questions never approach from earlier?" Both Cyclops and Spider-Man stared each other down until Wolverine started talking.
"Both of you, shut up. This isn't the time or place for more fighting."
"Glad we agree on that at least. FYI, you guys owe me a new suit, a giant hole is kinda hard to fix." Peter was met with a variety of dirty looks, which indicated to him to stop making jokes. His spider sense went off as he tackled Cyclops onto the ground, narrowly avoiding a flying bench. Cyclops looked surprised when Spider-Man reached his hand out to help him back up.
"Now that we're not fighting each other, what exactly is the plan for Rogue?" Jean brought up. Peter didn't wait for a response to the question. He shot a web line at another flying bench and latched onto it, jumping from flying object to object in attempts to get closet to Rogue. Once he was close enough, he tried speaking out to her.
"Rogue, listen to me! You need to calm down! You're causing catastrophic damage right now."
Rogue had her eyes closed as she held her head. "Ah...Ah can't. It's too much-can't control it." The winds were picking up in intensity, and Peter knew there was no feasible way to stop it without potential hurting Rogue. He decided to act on instinct and shot web lines past her, pull himself, and tackle her out the sky. He prepared to shoot another web to start swinging, but Rogue started to freak out and teleported the both of them again.
Back on the ground, the watching X-Men were left in shock in what they just seen. Their mission was a failure and worst off, they now had to worry about another potential mutant.
"Well, that went pretty terribly." Scott pointed out. Storm was back on her feet, albeit slightly weakened due to Rogue's touch. Jean tried using her telepathy to try and sense either Spider-Man or Rogue.
"Don't bother Jean." She turned her attention to the voice. A man in a wheelchair came up to her, passing by Wolverine.
"You got something on them Professor?"
"Unfortunately, no. They both teleported away, and while Rogue's mind is too chaotic to read at the moment, the masked man who fought us is an even more concerning problem. Besides, I think he wasn't the only factor in tonight's events." Wolverine started to sniff the air and caught two different scents.
"You're right Charles. Mystique was here too. I've also got a scent on that Spider kid. Want me to do some investigating?"
"No Logan. We've done enough damage tonight."
"All due respect Professor Xavier, Rogue was extremely violate when she got Storm's powers. You think it's a good idea to leave her out there in the city?"
Xavier sighed. He knew Scott was right in his thinking, but the risk of injury and damage was too great, not even mentioning the risk of exposure.
"It's not ideal Scott. But we can't push the matter anymore for the time being. She has to come on her own volition or not at all. Besides, we need to tend to our wounded." Xavier said, in remarks to Storm and Nightcrawler, who despite getting his powers taken by Rogue and passing out, was still trying to act like how he was before the mission. He met up with the rest of the team and was greeted by Shadowcat running up to him and hugging him in a worried panic.
"Kurt! You're alright." She broke the hug and then punched him in the arm.
"OWW!! Vhat vas that for Kitty?"
"For leaving after you woke up when I went for help and not letting me know. I thought you, like, died or something."
As Kurt rubbed his arm, he looked over at Scott, hoping for some type of advice or saying. He was greeted with him instead mouthing the words "Fuzzy Elf" as they all started to board the Blackbird to head home.
5 Blocks Away.
For the second time tonight, Peter found himself awakening from a passed out state. The how was lost to him as all he remembered was tackling Rogue from the air and they teleported. His head was killing him as he made his way to sit up. He looked around the rooftop he was on and couldn't find Rogue anywhere.
"Well this is just great. Not one thing went right at school or tonight. And now the amazing Spider-Man is going to be reduced to...fixing his suit, for a week!" Peter thought to himself.
"Still, what happened to that girl? And who were those people chasing her? A mystery to figure out tomorrow, right now I need to head back home before Aunt May starts calling the cops on me." Peter jumped off the roof and started swinging back to his house.
After about 5 minutes of swinging back to his neighborhood, Peter reached his house. He went in through the window in his room, as he figured going through the front door at 9 O'clock at night after his expulsion was a good way to start a game of 50 questions with his Aunt. He took his damaged suit off and threw it under his bed.
"Guess mystery group and suit repair are going to have to be joint tasks tomorrow. Assuming I can even fix the suit." Peter crawled into bed with his underwear only and started to nod off when he heard Aunt May call for him.
"Peter! Come down please! And put some clothes on!" She shouted. Peter sighed as he had just got comfortable and just wanted to sleep off tonight's events. He got up and threw on some sweatpants and a long sleeve and left his room, towards downstairs.
"Aunt May, please, I don't want to talk to any more officers..." His voice trailed off when he didn't see and police officers from earlier in the day, but rather a familiar girl that he'd been running through the cemetery trying to save. She loomed up at him and froze, as did he, although Aunt May didn't quite catch on.
"Peter, this is Rogue."
Hope you all enjoyed the chapter. Now for that review I was talking about. Ssahu72731 asked what Spider-Man iteration I'm basing this one off of and while I do keep it ambiguous as I know people have different opinions on they're favorite representation of Spider-Man, I will say I'm basing this start of this story off the end of Spectacular Spider-Man, after Green Goblin dies and Peter goes to the funeral (which I may explore in the next chapter or two). Obviously as the story goes on, the character is going to change, and some stuff about Peter starting off is different from how he regularly is going to be explained, but hopefully it's structured enough to make sense and open enough for you guys and gals to keep your own image of Spider-Man/Peter in this story. That being said, hope you all enjoyed and until next time.
