Today was a new day and a new training session as well.
It was stimulation training where we were supposed to rescue a person that was held captive inside, in the middle of the night.
Even though it wasn't really night, it was only 5:30 in the morning.
Evan and I were supposed to take down the guards.
I phased up through the floor right behind the female guard tapping her shoulder and she turned around alarmed.
Before she could even react, I sprayed her with a knock-out gas and she immediately fell unconscious to the ground.
Logan's idea wasn't that bad after all.
"North perimeter secure," I said through the communicator.
Now we were only waiting for Evan to do his part so we can get on with the plan.
That holographic lesson was very realistic. It feels like we are actually invading a real building.
"This guy is catching Z's, I mean, south perimeter secure," Evan said through the communicator and I sat down waiting for further orders.
"Alright Spyke, we are getting in," Scott said I played with my knives out of boredom.
"Which of you guys has been putting on weight? I can hardly hold you," Jean said and I laughed. They must be at the part where Jean is supposed to move them inside through the roof with her telekinesis.
"It's Nightcrawler, burgers seven days a week will do that to a fella," Scott and I giggled, it was true though.
"Ah the breakfast of a mutant," Kurt said and I smiled.
"Shadowcat, I need support," Jean said and I immediately stood up.
"On my way to you, Red," I said and climbed the roof. Being an Ex-Acrobat helped a lot around here.
I finally located Jean and walked up to her.
"I am here," I said but she didn't seem to hear me, she seemed to be struggling a lot. I decided not to say or do anything else, so I wouldn't distract her.
Out of nowhere I felt something on my shoulder and soon noticed a hand on Jean's shoulder as well.
She got scared and dropped Cyclops and Nightcrawler.
I quickly punched the person in the face hard and they fell down groaning in pain.
My attention was back at the boys, I could hear screaming and shouting.
What the hell was going on down there?
I looked down to see... Anne??
She was shooting at Scott and Kurt with Scott's optic blast.
Scott got shot and hit the ground.
"Stop the stimulation!" Scott yelled and the room turned back to the usual danger room.
We weren't on a roof no more. We were all on the ground, on the same level.
And soon the lights had brightened the whole room.
Then and only then did I realize that the person I had punched was Logan.
"I am so, so, sorry!" I said, my eyes widening.
"It's okay, you have a strong right hook by the way," he said grinning.
"Thank you, I guess," I said laughing awkwardly.
His mood darkened once his eyes met something behind me. I turned to see where his eyes had landed.
Anne Adler.
I haven't seen her since she had tried to absorb my energy.
She has been avoiding me for weeks, haven't been in any of classes that we had in common. She hadn't even made eye contact with me.
"What is Anne doing here?" Scott asked as the Professor wheeled inside and I wanted the answer to that question as well.
"She is the element of surprise and you should expect it in all of your exercises, you are dismissed," Professor said and exited the room with Anne by his side.
"Come on, girls, we are gonna be late for the trip," Scott said obviously pissed.
Jean and I shared a look but still walked after him.
-Time Skip-
We got ready for the biology trip. Just me, Scott and Jean.
Kurt and Evan weren't that interested in biology.
We were walking to the bus with our bags on our backs and Jean was trying to understand why Scott acted the way he did in the danger room this morning.
"So, he threw you off your game by putting Anne to the stimulation, what the big deal?" Jean asked and I looked at Scott waiting for his response.
"Me losing isn't the problem," he said looking to the ground.
"What then?" Jean insisted.
"Because he chose Anne of all people?" I asked also curious to know.
"Yeah, I guess, " he said and stopped walking causing us to stop next to him.
"Look, how can we pretend that she is our enemy in stimulations, when we are trying to convince her to be our friend? If we don't think of her as a friend, she will never want to join us," he said and I finally got what he meant, the poor girl is being manipulated and put under pressure by Mystique.
It is so unfair for her.
"It was just a stimulation Scott. Nobody wants you to stop trying with Anne," Jean said hugging his arms and we began to walk again.
"Nobody?" Scott asked looking at me, so I guess he was referring to me.
"Of course, I want us to keep trying to help Anne," I said and Jean smiled at me like a proud mother would.
"I mean she did hurt you on purpose," Scott explained his thoughts further and I nodded.
"I get what you are saying, but I know that Anne wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for Mystique's manipulation. Apart from that, I can also see the guilt she is feeling, she won't even look at me, you know? I am not mad at Anne, at all," I said and Scott nodded.
We finally reached the bus and began placing our bags inside.
Suddenly the biology teacher approached us.
"Jean, I am sorry, but you can't come to the field trip, something about your attendance," he said and I was dumbfounded.
What?
And they are telling her only now?
Out of nowhere?
"Woah! Those were approved," Scott said standing to Jean's side.
"Just call the Xavier School-," I interfered, but was cut off by the teacher.
"I wish we had time, but they have already replaced you with someone else, I promise you we will clear this it out when we come back," the teacher said and also seemed sad.
But so did Jean.
"Yeah, okay, well, have fun," she said and picked her bag up.
I grabbed her upper arm gently, stopping her from walking away.
"Do you want me to go back with you?" I told her.
Honestly, I really didn't mind.
"No, Kathryn, it's fine, after all Scott needs company too, right?" she said kindly and I gave her a nod as she walked away.
"Who took her spot?" Scott asked suspicious of something.
"Anne Adler," the teacher answered getting into the bus and my eyes widened in shock.
Anne replacing Jean?
Coincidence? I think not.
Well, this might be an interesting trip after all.
-Time Skip-
We were inside the bus. We have been on the road for a while.
Me and Scott sat together and some seats behind us sat Anne.
Is it me or is this Ms. Darkholme the beginning of every trouble?
First me, then Evan and now this.
Something was off with this woman.
"Oh no! It started to snow," the teacher said.
"Oh yeah!" the students cheered.
"This isn't a snowmobile trip child, if it starts snowing even harder, we will have to get back," he said.
Suddenly the bus started to shake, I panicked as it began to lean on its right side.
"Go to the left! Go to the left!" the teacher shouted for the as all the students screamed.
Sadly, I lost balance and fell into Scott.
But he didn't even bother letting me pull away as he opened the window and shot to the ground, creating some kind of gap so the wheels of the bus would get stuck in it.
The shaking stopped and the students stopped their yelling.
That's when Scott realized were I was.
I had fallen with my head on his lap and my legs were now occupying on my seat.
That's what I get for not wearing a seat belt.
Not doing that again.
"Urm...are you alright?" he asked rubbing the back of his head and I glared at him.
"Peachy, can you let me move now?" I said and stood up as he blushed in embarrassment.
I smiled at him, and I soon noticed I wasn't the only one.
Anne was smiling at Scott from the back seat and he was smiling back at her.
"What's going on between you and Anne?" I asked and he turned his attention to me.
"What do you mean?" He asked confused.
"I mean, what do you see Anne as?" I tried to explain.
"As a friend?" he said unsure of his answer.
"Oh okay, because I thought that you were falling in love with her, but you are already in love with Jean, so..." I said teasing him while smirking.
"What?! I am not! No!" he yelled making a few people turned to us.
"Oh, you don't like her then?" I asked innocently and raised my eyebrows.
"What? No! I like jean, a lot! Since the day I met her!" he said and I burst out laughing.
"So, you like her then?" I said between laughs and he face-palmed, realizing his words, making me laugh harder.
"You are unbelievable," he said shaking his head and I pushed his shoulder playfully.
"Not my fault you can't keep your mouth shut!" I said rubbing his hair and he laughed.
He pulled my arm away gently and turned all serious.
"Can this be our secret?" he asked and I nodded.
"I'll take it to the grave!" I said grinning.
"Dumbass," I added and he punched my arm playfully.
"So, who wants to push?" The teacher said getting our attention.
The students began to whine, but then Anne walked to the front of the bus.
"Professor, why don't we take our snowmobiles to the caves and wait for the weather to get better? " She suggested and everyone supported her idea.
"Alright!" The teacher gave in to the students and we all walked out of the bus.
-Time Skip-
I didn't own a snowmobile but Scott did.
So, I was riding with him, on the back, my hands around his waist. Even though I didn't like that close contact, I have warmed up to Scott and the others lately, after my little adventure with Mystique.
The ride was enjoyable and the view was amazing, the snow had covered the whole area of the mountain.
Suddenly, Anne came next to us with her snowmobile.
"Wanna race?" She asked and I was sure Scott would reject her idea.
"You're on!" he said smirking and my eyes widen.
"Can't we just stay out of trouble for one day!" I shouted as he sped up.
Scott was first, but Anne soon caught up to us and she didn't seem willing to lose.
She began pushing us to the edge of the rocky road.
We were about to fall and I held on to Scott for my dear life.
"Lean in! Lean in!" He screamed and I did just that.
When we finally gained balance, Anne was long gone.
"Shit! She almost got us off the road!" I shouted furiously.
We could have been really hurt, how could she?
"Yes, she did," he said sadly and I patted his back.
"Come on, let's go," I told him gently and settled behind him as he took off.
-Time skip-
When we arrived at the caves, a smirking Anne was waiting outside.
"No trophies for second place," she said and Scott got off the snowmobile.
"How a southern gal like you learn to handle a snowmobile?" Scott asked approaching her.
She came closer to him and rubbed a finger on his cheek.
"Let's just say I am full of surprises," she said and I had no disagreement on this.
She was having a moment with him being all lovey-dovey but I was too mad to care.
I walked to them and got to her face.
"Care to explain, why you were trying to throw as off the road?! If we had actually fallen, we would have broken a lot of shit or even worse, died! " I yelled at her and she looked at the ground avoiding eye contact with me.
Her confidence was gone in no time and she seemed scared.
Scared of me.
"Sorry...," she muttered and literally run inside.
I was left baffled.
"Was I too aggressive?" I asked turning to Scott lowering my voice.
"You were normal" he said with a silly smile on his face and I scoffed.
"And what does that supposed to mean?" I pointed a finger at him.
"It means that you are naturally aggressive and defensive to people," he answered still grinning and I opened my mouth to protest, but shut it instantly, realizing he was kind of right.
I crossed my arms and frowned.
"Hey don't get mad, it was just a joke," he said and I sighed.
"Nah, you are right," I said looking away from him, but he laughed taking me aback and pulled me into him,
placing a hand around my shoulders.
"Okay, I won't lie, you are aggressive sometimes, but you are just a huge softie inside," he said and I kept my arms crossed.
"I am no softie," I said and he rubbed my hair, which was in a ponytail as always, but since Ms. Darkholme had complained about my scar I left bangs falling on my face to cover it.
"Yes, you are, and If we stay out any longer you are gonna be frozen, too," he said and lead me inside the cave.
