A/N: Thank you, Heart Of Demons, for the review. It really made my day, knowing that there are people who like my stuff. And while, yes, I did give Will her powers from the begining, I still want to have her powers develop along side the others. So, for now, her power is lightning, without the whole lifeforce stuff.
Anyways, here's part II. Enjoy!
Chapter I: It Begins
Part II
About an hour ago, Rebel Leader Caleb and his friend, Aldarn escaped from the castle army on two hugongs. They hoped that the birds would take them to The Infinite City, but they got tired halfway there. So, they went on foot.
After about 10 minutes of walking, a messenger bird landed on Caleb's arm.
"That's Vathek's bird" Said Aldarn.
"He's early." Said Caleb. "That means it's urgent. Repeat!"
The bird cawed, then it said, in a voice resembling a parot:
"Caleb, you have to hear this! Phobos learned that the now previous Guardian of Air chose 5 new Guardians. She also told them about The Rightful Heir, and the fact she is on Earth. Phobos suspects that one of the reasons the Guardians were chosen was to protect The Heir which must be near them. So, he moved The Veil around so that more portals will form in that region. You must find The Heir before Phobos does. I have to go, before the other guards realise that I'm missing. Good luck!"
Then the bird flew away.
"What do we do?" Asked Aldarn.
"You go to The Infinite City, I'll find a portal. If we don't locate The Heir before Phobos does Meridan and Earth are both doomed. Tell the people to be strong, I hope no one will suffer. I hope to see you soon, Aldarn."
They both ran in opposite directions, Aldarn towards The Infinite City and Caleb to find a portal.
"Oh yes!" Said Irma excited. "A perfect place to practise our powers!"
Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin were close to the river that cut Heatherfield in half, just at the beginning of the bridge, which was above them.
"You know, I still don't believe any of this stuff." Said Cornelia. "No offence to your grandma or anything, but she's, like, completely deluded. Probably not enough vitamin D."
"What about the flower that grew when you just looked at it?" Asked Taranee. "And the water in Irma's glass? And that picture Mrs Lin drew in the air? And the dream Hay Lin had of that man? Not to mention how Will hit you with lightning."
"Magic tricks." Said Cornelia. "10$ on the internet."
Although she didn't show it, Will had just as much doubts as Cornelia. It seemed a little too far-fetched that she of all people was chosen to be the leader of an interdimensional group of protectors and given the most powerful element. She was only 12.
Will took out The Heart Of Kandrakar. There was something weird about it... well, besides the fact that it glew pink. It almost seemed alive. According to Hay Lin's grandma, she was supposed to use it to unite the Guardians. But how was she going to do that? Yell "Guardians Unite"? Well it didn't hurt to try.
"Guardians Unite!" She said.
The Crystal glew even brighter. Four beams shot from it and connected to Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin, enclosing each of them in some kind of pink bubble. After that the beams went to Will, doing the same to her.
Then the bubbles exploded, engulfing the area in pink light. When it dimmed the girls were standing in their Guardian forms. They no longer looked like little girls, they were now young women. They were taller and their bodies were more developed.
Although they each wore the same kind of clothes there were minor differences between them. They all wore tight pants with blue-green stripes and crop tops. And they each had green dragonfly wings with blue tips sticking out of their backs.
Will wore a pink top with super long sleeves, a blue mini skirt over her pants and pink knee high boots.
Irma had a blue top with reasonable sized sleeves, a pink mini skirt and pink boots.
Taranee had a pink sleeveless shirt, no skirt, just her pants and pink sneakers. And her hair was different. She had 3 braids on the left side of her head and 3 on the other, giving it the impression of a spider.
Cornelia's outfit was similar to Irma's, except for the fact that she wore a long pink skirt which was cut on one side so her left leg was visible and she had pink knee-high boots, just like Will.
Hay Lin's outfit was similar to Cornelia's, however her shirt was sleeveless, her boots were shorter and her skirt was cut on both sides, giving it the impression of a loincloth.
On the back of their right hands they each had a symbol. Will's resembled a yin yang symbol except for the fact that the white and black parts were separate and that they were both pink. Irma's symbol was a light blue wide "V", with a dot at the begining of the letter. Taranee had a red triangle, Cornelia a green circle with a dot at it's centre and Hay Lin, a dark blue "C".
"Holy cow!" Said Will amazed.
"Somehow, I cannot imagine your grandma wearing that." Said Irma observing a new situation.
"What have we got behind us?" Said Hay Lin looking at her wings.
"What have we got all over us!" Said Cornelia admiring her own body.
"They're wings!" Said Hay Lin excited. "We've got wings!"
"They can't be wings." Said Will. "If they were wings when we went like this (She flapped her wings) we would- ahhh!!!" She rose about 3 feet in the air. Flying was not as easy as it looked.
"Let me try!" Said Hay Lin.
She shot upwards like an arrow, doing tricks while she flew.
"This totally ROCKS!!!" Said Irma excited. "You do something!" She pointed at Taranee.
Taranee raised her index finger. Immediately, a fireball shot from it. It travelled forward until it hit a tree, setting it on fire. Mrs Lin wasn't kidding when she said that their powers would be amplified.
"See, this is exactly why I don't like fire." Said Taranee looking at the burning tree.
"Irma, you're water!" Yelled Cornelia. "Put it out!"
Irma shoved her hands forward. A huge jet of water shot from her hands, pushing her back. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it could spread.
Cornelia wanted to experiment with her powers too but then she realised that there wasn't any soil or plans there.
"Oh great, I can't do my thing! Like, rise towards me or whatever". The ground started shaking. A big cactus along with a pink flower rose from the pavement. Guess anything that's earth counts.
After struggling for 2 minutes, Will finally made it back to the ground. She didn't understand how Hay Lin could do it so effortlessly. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that she was The Air Guardian.
Anyways, Will wanted to try out her powers too. She raised her hand at a tree. A lightning bolt formed and mercilessly destroyed the tree. Unlike fire or water, lightning is very fast, so Will had to be extra careful. Once shot, it could do some serious damage. Maybe there is a way of controlling the voltage. Who knows?
How was Caleb going to find a portal, he had no idea. They could appear anywhere. So he needed a vantage point. Luckily there was a steep hill nearby. Perfect! He went there and started climbing.
However, when he got to the top he was met with a 20 foot tall green creature with cat eyes and a lush mane of bleached blonde hair. It was the same creature that arrived at the destroyed tower after Caleb and Aldarn made a run for it.
"How can something so small be so troublesome?"
Caleb's mind was going 1000 miles/h. He had to figure out a way to outsmart the snake and somehow take him down. It however wasn't easy. The platform he was on was small and the snake's tail was huge, blocking any exit available.
Suddenly, the snake rolled forward. His tail followed, acting as a whip. Caleb tried to dodge it but the tail was too big. It hit him, sending him rolling down hill.
Caleb tried to regain his composure as the snake followed behind him. Finally, he managed to get a grip and instead of rolling he was now running.
He knew that running wouldn't help him but now he wasn't exactly rich on options. He prayed that he will find a portal before the snake will get him.
In the distance, a blue vortex appeared with lightning acting as it's borders. A portal. Caleb couldn't believe this. He ran with all his might towards it. He was given a chance and he wasn't about to waste it.
When he was about 2 feet away, the portal started pulling him towards it. Going through it felt like ripping your way through a thin cloth. When he came out, the ground was 3 feet below him, and with the momentum built from his running, he was launched forward until he hit a pile of trash.
"Ouch!" He said.
After a few seconds something grabbed him by the back of his shirt hanging him in the air. It was the snake. He followed Caleb through the portal.
"Unfortunately for you, I am not blind" Said the snake. Then he heard a yell.
"Guardians Unite!"
The whole area was covered in pink light. Then 5 young women appeared, each dressed in a combination of green, pink and blue.
"Impossible!" He growled.
"Let him go!" Yelled Will, sparks forming around her. For the first time, fear could be seen on the snake's face. He backed away, half of his tail still being on the other side. He was desperately trying to fight against the portal which was trying to push his tail towards him.
Will had to do something. The boy was getting closer and closer to the portal. She knew that if she hit the snake with lightning she would also electrocute the boy. What was she going to do? Then she remembered The Heart. Maybe it could do something.
She took it out and pointed it towards the boy. A pink beam shot form it, but the boy disappeared into the portal before the beam could grab him. When the beam made contact with the portal, the latter began to swirl backwards converging the vortex into a single point. Then it disappeared.
"You lost him!" Yelled Cornelia. "That thing got him!"
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" Said Will apologetically.
"Bring him back, then!"
"How? I don't know!"
"Uhm, guys!" Said Taranee. "I hate to interrupt, but we just saw a hole open it the air, and a giant green snake with arms. Shouldn't we tell Mrs Lin?"
"Taranee's right!" Said Hay Lin. "I'm sure grandma will make some sense of this."
"I see." Said Yan Lin. "What did he look like?"
"I... don't know!" Said Will disappointed. "He was just a boy! It happened so fast!"
Yan Lin put a hand on Will's shoulder.
"Don't blame yourselves." She said.
"I don't" Said Cornelia angrily. "I blame her." She pointed at Will. "She totally blew it."
"I'm sorry! I tried to save him!" She paused. "What were you doing? Couldn't you have restrained the snake with vines or something?"
"Don't shift the blame on me, new girl!"
"Moving to Heatherfield wasn't my idea, you know! After my parents divorced mom wanted to start a new beginning. So we moved here. Honestly, I wish I would have stayed in Faden Hills. At least there I wouldn't have to deal with snobs like you!"
She pointed to Cornelia. Without thinking, she shot a lightning bolt, hitting Cornelia for a second time that day.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!"
Cornelia got up, on her face was a mixture of anger and fear. She calmed down after she realised it was an accident.
Hay Lin was working on a drawing of the snake man. After she finished, she showed it to her grandmother. Yan Lin sighed.
"Lord Cedric."
"Lord?" Asked Irma. "They got some pretty low standards for a knight over there."
"Cedric is not always in this form. He has a human aspect."
"Well, that's good news for his wife."
"Irma, this is serious!" Yelled Hay Lin.
"I know! You think I'm not scared? I joke so I don't scream."
"Don't fight!" Said Yan Lin with a tone that sounded more afraid that usual. She had done her best to hide her fear, for the girls sake. But now it was beginning to show. "You only have each other. And you've begun an adventure which I'm afraid you will need all of your talents and strength just to stay alive."
In The Royal Castle of Meridian, The Evil Prince sits in silence, planning his next move, now that his chance to break free of his prison is closer than ever.
Alright, sorry that it took this long, I was busy with school. Now I believe the direction that I'm going with the characters is clear. Caleb is not sexist (which is something that makes no sense given that Meridian is ruled by queens), Taranee is not a scaredy-cat and Will is a little more impulsive.
How Phobos found out about the heir was a little unclear to me in the show. From what Caleb said, Phobos found out that the heir is alive. This makes no sense because Yan Lin said that is believed that the heir is on Earth, so she's obviously alive. And Yan Lin only said Earth. She didn't give an exact location. So, the heir could be anywhere on Earth. Because of this I had Phobos deduce that the Guardians must have been chosen to protect the heir, so the heir has to be near the Guardians.
The pink beam attack by the Guardians was something that never returned, and something which made no sense so I cut it.
I'm also trying to establish the lore and rules that were added in Season 2. Season 1 kind of had things appearing out of nowhere. The most obvious example is The Ceremony of the Amalgamation, which I'll talk more about when I will actually get there in the story.
This season is split into 2 parts. The first part is called The Guardians of the Veil and will end on episode 12 "The Princess Revealed"
I will try to keep a limit of 5-6k words per episode. This being the first chapter, there was a lot of set up I had to do, which is why I split it up into 2 parts. And because I wanted the first part to end with the title "The Guardians of the Veil". As always let me know your thoughts.
Next is Chapter II: It Resumes.
