in Egypt there is a legend of a woman who caught the attention of a man that wanted a wife who could love him without caring he was a man of wealth, a humble poor man or even a god.
this AU is an invention of my own with some elements from the movie Gods of Egypt from 2016 but with some differences.
In the ancient Egypt in a time where the gods walked among the humans there was a woman called Charlotte (Charlie for the friends) who was the daughter of the queen of all Egypt who was loved and respected in all of Egypt, Charlie was taught by her mother to be a smart, kind and fair leader to all of her people not caring if someone was from a highborn or of the low class they will get treated equally. The best friends of Charlie were: Vaggie a servant girl, Angel Dust an orphan thief from the slums, Millie the medjay and her little sister Octavia an orphan who was put in the care of the royal family because her father was a good friend of the queen; this group of friends while giving the chance will go everywhere together, do everything together and even defend each other against everything.
There was something that neither of them would be able to prevent: a ritual ceremony in which seven women chosen from both high and low class were to be delivered to a temple in where they will be selected by the gods to serve them, this ritual has been taking place once a year for the past 13 years and what makes were this ritual so terrifying is that some of the gods were ruthless to the women that were put at their service that some of the women who were selected kill themselves before even being taken. When the sages from the temple came to the palace they came looking for the queen, but then Charlie did something that has never happened before: she willingly offered herself as the tribute in her mother's place. The sages accepted the exchange and they take the princes instead of the queen, when Charlie's friends heard what happened they decided to go to that temple to save their dear friend even if it means facing the wrath of the gods.
Charlie was delivered to the temple of the sun in where she was put in a room to be prepared for the ritual that will take place the next day at dawn break , in that room she saw in there were the other six women who would share her destiny: Mimzy a song mistress that had fame around the higher class, Crymini a merchant seller, Martha a criminal caught for crimes of murder, Mayberry a librarian, Katie a widowed noble woman and finally Helsa a woman Charlie knew very well because in the past Charlie was engage to Helsa's older brother Seviathan but didn't work for the reason that he cheated on her with plenty of women which cause the engagement broken by Charlie's mother. Even though Charlie and Helsa didn't have the best of relationships Charlie wouldn't wish this fate to anyone, not even her worst enemy.
The next day when the ritual was about to start Charlie and the rest of the women were brought to an altar where they would stand in the middle until a god or goddess selected one of them, in that altar Charlie could see the deities that would take part of the ritual this year: there was Velvet the goddess of magic, Striker god of war, Verosicka goddess of love, Rosie goddess of knowledge, Valentino god of the night (the main reason for this ritual to be so terrifying) and one of the two most recurrent deities of this ritual and finally the other recurring deity for this ritual was figure hide in a red cloak follow by three mens with animal masks (a cat, an owl and a goat) with a red eye mark on it which was the mark of the god of death and destruction the most fearsome among the gods who was feared by both humans and gods alike that no one dares to pronounce his name.
When the ritual finally started it lasted until noon because some of the gods were interested in one of the women while some of them where interested in only one of the women, of course Valentino was interested in all of them to add them to his servants and in contrast the red figure wasn't interested in any of them, but the moment Charlie was presented to the gods she could felt that the red figure was looking at her with interest. So he decides to take Charlie with him and no one dare to interfere, but before he could take her with him Charlie's friends jump on the altar and ask to the god to take them alongside Charlie, the god of death accepted to take his Charlie's guests to his temple.
While being in the temple Charlie and her friends meets with Moxxie the chief medjay, Nifty the head maid, Husk the guardian of the temple, Stolas the sorcerer, Molly the servant and finally Alastor a mysterious man that could be either the owner of the house next the temple or a humble servant but for Charlie there was something familiar to the young man.
Seviathan learned about the result of the ritual and no accepting it he made with Valentino a temporary alliance to defeat the god of death and taking Charlie back to their hands, as the time pass Charlie will discover that will forever change their life and also discover more than they ever hope to know.
