Chapter 14. Disclosure
.
She woke up a couple of hours later a little calmer than before. But she still felt a little tired. She got out of bed, maybe a shower would help. When she got out of the bathroom she looked for something presentable to be at home in, since the servants who had traveled with them were there, and she took the opportunity to put her hair up as she wore it before, that is to say in an inappropriate way. When they asked her what she wanted for lunch she looked over the list of food Tsunade had given her, and asked for something accordingly.
She went back to bed and picked up one of the books she had taken on the trip, she was almost falling asleep again while reading when she was interrupted
"Excuse me, Yoshida-sama," she was spoken to from the entrance to the bedroom.
"What's the matter?"
"You have some visitors."
"Some visitors?" she asked surprised, "Who are they?"
"Haruno and Yamanaka, they are two women."
"Tell them to come in, please. I'll receive them here."
"With pleasure, excuse me."
"So, Yoshida-sama," greeted Sakura as she entered the room, "Wow, I've never known these houses from the inside."
"This is what I call winning the lottery," complemented Ino, "Congratulations on the baby!" they both hugged her.
"Thank you girls for coming," she motioned them to take a seat on the bed and they happily climbed on, "How did you find out the news?"
"The whole village knows, your husband has apologized because you're not with him in the arena explaining the situation," that was what she called being discreet.
"Yes, it was a sudden news," she told them, "Does Toshio know that you are here?"
"Of course, Tenten, he authorized us," Ino said rolling her eyes, "we know the rules of etiquette and we knew we had to do it, by the way, Sakura?"
"Right!" the green-eyed took out a folded paper from her pocket, "your husband sent this to you, he says he misses you very much."
"You are very kind," she answered receiving the letter, they looked at her with curiosity so she opened it carefully so they wouldn't notice what was written 'BE PRUDENT AND YOU WILL AVOID PROBLEMS'. The note was erased after reading it and even though they were letters on a piece of paper, she could swear she heard the annoyed tone of Toshio's voice
"So... what does it say?"
"Take care of yourself and our treasure," she quickly invented with little credibility, "he is a proud father-to-be."
"He is attractive, charismatic and romantic, it almost sounds too good to be true," said Sakura suspiciously, "What's the catch? Has he a small one?"
The three began to laugh out loud at the comment, the afternoon passed with her telling them in broad strokes what it meant to be the wife of the future feudal, omitting of course everything related to the exams, and then the three were remembering old times while laughing. They had tea and cookies while Ino told them the reasons why a month ago she had ended with her boyfriend, and that inspired by the idea of forming alliances through marriages, the leaders of the Yamanaka clan were evaluating to engage her either with the son of the clan with whom they had quarrels in the village or to finish strengthening the relationship they had with another clan.
"In short, I'm going to end up having dogs in my house or with my troublesome teammate," Ino said shaking her head, "and all because they want to go back to doing something the old-fashioned way."
"Hey, that's not my fault!" she replied laughing, "and Hinata?"
"She is with her Clan, with the presence of so many ninjas from other villages they are being extremely careful with her, after all she is the Kazekage's fiancée."
"Right, her wedding will be soon," she would write down in her to-do list to ask if they would attend.
At that moment the entrance door sounded, Toshio had returned in Haruo's company.
"Ladies," he greeted as he entered the room, she got up from the bed and went to his side to greet him, "Are you feeling better?" she nodded and he gave her a kiss.
"We were already leaving," said Sakura taking Ino's arm. They said goodbye hugging her and Toshio.
"I'll wait for you in the living room," he ordered her as soon as they were alone, pointing to her hair. She went to the bathroom and rearranged it into a side braid, applied a light coat of makeup and joined them in the living room.
"Tenten-senpai," Haruo greeted her, "Congratulations! I've always believed that pregnancies make women even more radiant."
"Thank you very much, Haruo-sensei, I hope today's test results were favorable," she took a seat next to her husband.
"Quite a lot, the taijutsu reinforcements have shown their fruits but what has had a marked difference is the aim, so far we have won 3 of the 4 fights, we are waiting for the score of the student who lost the fight."
"Definitely Tenten has been a great success for our village," Toshio said taking her by the hands.
"I would like you to consider for next year to include other advising with her, it would be excellent that she also advises those who seek to promote from chunin to jōnin," Toshio squeezed her hands too tightly without the other man noticing it.
"It's a formidable idea, but for next year my only priority will be our future child."
"I know, I know," said Haruo standing up, "please Yoshida-sama, I beg you to excuse my audacity in front of such a proposition, it is time for me to retire."
"There is nothing to apologize, we all seek the best for the village," Toshio stood up and they said goodbye with a handshake. Haruo bowed to her and left. She went to the kitchen to get a glass of water, all the staff had already left, her husband followed her, "I hope you heeded my note."
"It was an unnecessary risk, Toshio-sama," she replied, he gave her a bad look, "they could have read the note."
"I had my precautions, besides your friends are sufficiently enraptured by my charms to obviate some things," he held out his hand and she handed him the glass of water she had just poured, looking for another glass, "please, if you receive visitors again, attend them in the living room," he drank the whole glass in one sip and gave it back to her, "now come to bed, I had a long and busy day so I need to release that tension."
"I'm coming, Toshio-sama," she drank a small sip of water, yes, she was the object for him to release the tension every day.
"Don't be long," he left the kitchen.
She drank the glass of water slowly thinking that was the catch, her husband wasn't romantic, considerate or any of the qualities her friends described. She left the glasses on the counter and headed resignedly to the bedroom.
.
Morning came and she woke up tired again, but she knew Toshio wouldn't let her stay home again so she got ready to go out, she searched through her clothes for a loose kimono, everyone in the village already knew about her pregnancy but that didn't mean she wanted the scrutiny on her body.
Since her teenage years, when her breasts began to grow and she realized that the men in the street fixed their gaze there, she had hated wearing tight clothes, she hated others examining her body so she had decided to wear loose clothing, which was also extremely comfortable and gave her freedom of movement at the time of a fight. But that had also changed with her marriage, for some events she was required to wear tight dresses and endure being shown off.
Toshio didn't mention anything about the attire and they went to the combat arena, there as she had predicted, everyone was watching her. Many came up to greet her, congratulate her and tell her how great her new condition was, she just wanted to go back to bed and get some more sleep. During the fight Haruo chattered beside her about what was going on, and she thought about the gaze she felt on her back.
It was an eternal day, but it was finally over. Toshio was going to meet some other people from the village, although she didn't ask who, and go for a few drinks so he had allowed her to return to the residence to rest. That time the one accompanying her from the rooftops was Shino, then she remembered that Neji she had seen earlier in the day in the arena. It took her longer to get to the house than it did to be tucked between the blankets sleeping. Toshio had arrived past midnight, she could smell the alcohol on his breath as he approached her for the same thing he did every night.
It was the second to last day in the village, as Toshio in a bad mood had already told her that they had brought the trip forward, and would return after the exams were over so that they could give the news to his father as soon as possible, and also for the doctors of the Lightning to be able to examine her. On the one hand she was sad to leave her home village, but on the other hand she hoped that they would take her new condition into consideration, and allow her a little more time to rest. She tried to avoid any conversation with him as he seemed more irascible than usual.
During the break in the fighting, an informal lunch was held as a farewell in the company of some members of several of the village clans. Her head hurt and at the moment she got up to go to the bathroom she felt a dizziness followed by the fact that everything went black. She woke up in Tsunade's office in the hospital, the blonde and Toshio had their backs to her and were arguing.
"She needs rest," said the Hokage annoyed.
"Yesterday she was perfectly fine, and in the morning she said she felt fine, as my wife it is her duty to be by my side," he replied.
"She is creating a life in there, it depends on the adequate care that her pregnancy can reach term," Tsunade put a hand on the bridge of her nose trying to calm down. "That is why I explicitly recommended rest, besides it is not appropriate for her to travel yet."
"And I appreciate the recommendation, but when we return to our home, as soon as the exams are finished," he clarified, "she will be accompanied by the best doctors of my country," they hadn't noticed yet that she had already woken up, because she closed her eyes again pretending to remain unconscious. The sound of the steps indicated that he began to head towards the door, "I leave her in your hands for now, I have some business to attend," Toshio said to Tsunade angrily, opened the door and left without waiting for an answer.
"Do you know that I can tell the difference between the breathing of someone who is awake and someone who is not?" Tsunade asked her, closing the office door, locking it and finally turning to look at her.
"I..." she tried to excuse herself without success, "what happened to me?" she got up on the bed to sit down.
"You had a drop in your blood pressure, nothing unusual in a pregnancy," Tsunade opened a drawer of the desk and took out a couple of bottles of water, handed her one, "I didn't think it was necessary to clarify that the rest included also sex."
"Tsunade-sama that..."
"It's none of my business," the blonde rolled her eyes, "yes, your husband already made it clear," the woman fiddled with the bottle and opened the drawer again, put the bottle of water away and took a bottle of sake, "he hasn't forced you to do anything... but he hasn't given you a choice either, I've heard that story before."
"It's not a good conversation," she answered sadly.
"It was stupid to accept that mission," the Hokage uncorked the sake bottle and drank a sip, "we should have refused, I know the Raikage and he is a reasonable man."
"Tsunade-sama, it was a threat of war," she remembered what she had heard in the Lightning village, "for the good of the village it was essential to fulfill it, I know how to adapt," she paused to drink some water, "If it's not a problem, may I ask why was Toshio so angry? I had never seen him talk like that in public," in private yes, but never in public.
"Because I told him that he had been irresponsible with your care," Tsunade drank another glass, "but the truth is that that was all, he just exploded and apparently he forgot for a moment the diplomacy he has always shown," the woman put the cap on the bottle and put it back, "apparently he is not used to not being able to control everything."
"I understand," she replied nodding. What would have happened? Suddenly Neji appeared at the window.
"Confirmed, there are 2 of the servants exploring the village, they are touring the Uchiha village," she didn't understand anything.
"Tenten," the Hokage looked her in the eyes, "we are aware that Toshio is planning to attack Konoha," the news took her by surprise, "so it's time for you to take a side."
"What do I have to do?" she asked without even thinking about it.
