Chapter twenty-three or rather chapter 70 is here and hope everyone is ready! I'm glad I got this out a little faster than last time. I'm trying to get this done as soon as possible. So, I can get done one less story to deal with and get the others I haven't finished yet.
Now, originally, I was planning to keep going for one more chapter, but then I decided to end it with this one long chapter finale for Story 3. Now, I also wanted to try making this a good finale in the honor of Kevin Conroy, who tragically passed away on November 10 of this year. So, here we are with this finale for Story 3. And hope everyone will like it.
Also, because of the passing of Jason David Frank, after this story, going back to the Power Rangers/Star Wars story. Still sucks we lost two of my chldhood heroes. Still, may they rest in peace and be remembered by everyone.
Also, apologies for not getting this out sooner. I had said November was going to be very busy for me. From getting married, moving to a new home, and then working during the very long-hours at work. I had to also make sure this chapter would go well. So, I hope everyone will enjoy this and will like with what happens, especially to set up for the next story.
Now, last time we saw Batman and his team arrive to confront Thrawn. Batman now going to face off against Thrawn alone, while his kids stay back and not risk getting killed by the Dark Troopers. We also saw the arrival of Red Robin aka Numa, the Twi'lek girl. And has arrived to help Nightwing.
While we also saw Ahsoka and the other Clones getting some backup. How will things go for this finale? Will it end like from the game? Or will we see it go differently?

Story III: Chapter XXIII
Coruscant
The doors soon slide open and Thrawn walks out of the room before he stood across from Batman. "I have been waiting for you to finally make your way here, Batman. Its such a pity you took so long to get here. If you had gotten here much sooner, then all the lives that had been lost wouldn't have been killed. Once again, your failure has led to more blood to be shed."
"Their deaths are on you Thrawn. I'm not the one who locked them in here with the intent of murdering them all. I'm not the one who betrayed your values and beliefs because you thought what you were doing is for the betterment of the Republic. You murdered all those people Thrawn, and you don't even care," said Batman who knew everything that has happened, is on Thrawn.
Yes, his appearance did cause these criminals like the Joker to emerge to cause chaos and he will carry the burden of their crimes on his shoulders. However, at least he's still trying to help protect the people, make sure justice is served, and make sure everyone is given a fair shake. But Thrawn? Chose to execute them all.
Even those who were locked in here because they knew something about Thrawn's plan.
"You're right. I don't care much for these criminals," said Thrawn as he walks over towards the window and looks out to see the chaos being caused now below. "Unlike you, I see no hope in criminals like these, Batman. Unlike you, I see the only thing they'll end up doing is push the Republic into further chaos. With them out of the way, the Republic can now move forward. They can now put all their time, effort, and resources into bettering the Republic, not these criminals."
Thrawn sets his staff against the glass and moves his arms behind his back before he continued. "These criminals are beyond redemption. They are beyond salvation. They must all die and you know it, Batman. You know their deaths are what the people want and is what's necessary for the greater good."
"And what about the ones you locked up who committed no crime? Except knowing anything about your derange plan and the plan of your master," said Batman as he clearly against Thrawn's madness.
"My master?" Thrawn asked before he begins to smile. "Ah. You mean the one I plan to succeed? Yes. It is true that all of this was orchestrated by him, but the rest of it was all my own plan."
Thrawn soon turns to Batman and moves his right hand over to point to the detective. "This is my test to prove to the one you turned down that I can do what is necessary. That my vision for a better Republic can be done through me and I will end the chaos that has existed in the galaxy. Something you failed to do for years. My vision will push the Republic towards a better and strong future."
Batman's fists clenched tightly, before he stood ready to fight. "I won't you and your master get away with this. I will stop you and your plans."
Thrawn simply sighed as he lowered his arm and moves it back behind his back. "I knew you would say that. I have tried throughout this whole night to show you can't beat me. That nothing you do will stop what I have set into motion. That nothing you, your family, and allies can do to stop me."
Thrawn soon grabs his weapon and begins to twirl it. "Very well then. If you still choose to want to fight me and lose your life in the process, then I will make it your death quick. I'll even make sure the death of your children is quick as well. I can't afford to let any of them live and risk them continue to try stopping my plans."
Thrawn snaps his fingers and soon the eyes of his droids begin to glow red. Before they took their blasters out and got ready to fire.
"If your kin attempt to get in my way, then they will all die," said Thrawn as he stood ready to fight. "Are you ready for your end, Daniel Wayne? Are you ready for the legend of the Batman to finally die with you?"
"My legend won't die today, and neither will my family, Thrawn," said Batman as he stood ready to fight before pulling out a staff of his own from his utility belt. "I will stop you and I will save everyone."
"You will try," said Thrawn before the two soon charge at each other and bring their weapons down.
Colliding with one another as a bolt of lightning erupted behind them as the battle for the fate of Arkham City and the Republic soon began.
Both men stared at one another. Both men waiting for the other to make the first move. All the while, Batgirl and Robin watched on from where they were hiding. They knew they couldn't get involved, thanks to the ten Dark Troopers. The droids were ordered only to attack if the sidekicks got involved.
So, the moment the kids tried to make a move, even if they weren't going to get involved in the fight, they'll be shot at. Batgirl needed to use this time to find a weakness to these droids before they can move in to shut down Protocol 10.
In the meantime, Batman and Thrawn kept on staring. Both trying to formulate multiple plans for their offense and defense. If Batman charges in, he'll need to be quick and avoid having the fight go long. He knew in his condition, he won't last. And Thrawn knows this.
Thrawn knew he couldn't afford to let the fight go long too, especially if the children do find a way through his droids. Sure, he could beat them both without any problems. That's if he didn't fight Batman first. If Batman manages to do enough damage to him, then he knows the odds of him defeating his kin, will be risky.
Both men knew better than to go into the first move without a plan. But both knew time was running out. Batman has to stop Thrawn's Protocol 10 and Thrawn needs to make sure his plan succeeds.
Batman not wanting to waste any more time, soon charges in as he throws some Batarangs. Thrawn blocks his attacks with his staff and sees Batman trying to slash through his weapon with his wrist blades. Thrawn though blocks the attack, and the blades didn't seem to cut it through. Batman should have known he'd have a weapon that wouldn't be cut through so easily.
Thrawn pushes Batman off and tries to swing his weapon to the side, but Batman ducks it. Thrawn kicks Batman away and thrusts his weapon towards him. Batman though managed to move to the side and grabs the weapon. Attempting to pull Thrawn forward, but the warden managed to palm thrust into Batman's face knocking him back.
Batman staggers back as Thrawn charges at him to attack the Dark Knight. Thrusting his weapon forward, he managed to shock Batman, but thanks to his suit, he managed to avoid much damage. Batman managed to grab the weapon and then lifts Thrawn with it before throwing him over. Thrawn managed to land on his feet and tries to swing his weapon again.
Batman though managed to duck, slides along the wall, and uses his right arm to clip his right leg. This caused Thrawn to fall on one knee, before Batman got him and kicks him across the back of his head. Thrawn fell forward, but he managed to roll himself up as Batman charges at him. Thrawn thrusts the weapon forward, but Batman presses his boot down on the weapon, which is what Thrawn wanted.
Thrawn kicks Batman in the gut, before pulling a short sword from behind him. He then swings his weapon and tries to slash through his gut. Batman though managed to get back and avoid getting hit, but it did leave a slash across his armor. Batman noticed this and sighed softly. Looks like this blade is a lot sharper and stronger than he expected.
Thrawn charges at Batman swinging his staff, while swinging his blade. Batman manages to avoid the weapons before pulling out his own retractable staff. Blocking Thrawn's weapons as he tries to avoid getting hit by him. Batman though is being pushed back towards the window.
Thrawn tries to corner Batman and thrusts his sword forward. Batman blocks it with his staff, before he retracts it and hits his opponent across the face. Thrawn took the hit though and thrusts his staff forward, hitting Batman in the gut, electrocuting him. Batman grits his teeth as he tries to fight off the attack.
Thrawn soon thrusts his sword forward to stab Batman, but the Dark Knight grabs the blade with his gloved hand. Batman winced when he felt the pain and blood beginning to drip from the cut. However, Batman moves his left hand down to press a button on his right wrist. This caused the electricity that was seeping through him, begins to redirect him towards the sword, electrocuting his opponent.
Thrawn yells in pain before dropping his weapons as he staggers back. However, Batman didn't give him a chance to recover before he punches him square in the face. Batman repeatedly kicks and punches him as he knocks his opponent back. Batman then grabs Thrawn and throws him over the railing.
Batman begins panting heavily as he tries to recover. He looks down at the sword and tosses it away and disables the staff.
He knew that this fight isn't over yet. He knew it and knew Thrawn will come back. However, looking over to see no guards in the control room, he knew this was their chance. Their chance to finish this and save everyone in Arkham City.
Batman begins sending a signal to Batgirl and Robin to get in the control room. To shut down Protocol 10.
Batgirl and Robin had been moving around the room to try looking for a way to get to the control room while the fighting is going on. They knew that Batman needed them to get to the control room. While they're trying to avoid being spotted by the Dark Troopers. If they spot them, then they'll try to kill them.
They managed to avoid being detected, while watching Batman during his fight. They knew they couldn't get involved. Despite their better judgement, they knew their father needed them in the control room. Looking to try stopping Protocol 10 and save everyone.
Batgirl and Robin soon got the signal from their father, as they saw an opening. They begin sneaking their way towards the upper level, where they saw their father beginning to recover.
"Father, are you okay?" Robin asked as he sees him bleeding from his hand.
"I'm all right," said Batman as he spits out some blood before he pulls out a cloth from his utility belt and wraps it around his wounded hand. "Get in the control room and shut it down."
"All right. Just hold out a little longer before…" Batgirl is soon interrupted when a cable wraps around Batman and pulls him off the second floor to the first. "Father!"
Robin quickly tackles Batgirl down just as a blaster shot missed her head. Batgirl and Robin begin making their way towards safe cover. The ten Dark Troopers soon begin charging at them, while opening fire. Thankfully the droids are slow, so Batgirl and Robin could take cover. But they knew they'll need to use long-distance attacks to take them out and avoid close up combat.
The Dark Troopers begin splitting up with five moving around the room, while the five march towards the sidekicks. Batgirl and Robin knew they needed to use this chance to take out the droids. Robin begins leaping out from behind the wall they were taking cover from and throws some Birdarangs. The Dark Troopers though opened fire and shot down the projectiles.
Batgirl though used this chance to throw her own and managed to hit the droids. However, it didn't take them down and they kept on coming at them. Robin leaps off against the wall, before throwing a Cryo-grenade towards the enemy. It managed to hit three of the droids and begins freezing them.
Batgirl, meanwhile, took out her Remote Electrical Charge, before firing it at the two droids. It managed to damage them, but not enough to destroy them. Robin goes to try slashing them off, but the frozen droids begin breaking through the ice and one grabs Robin by the throat. The droid tries to snap his neck, but Robin stabs the arm of the droid with his Birdarang and frees him.
Batgirl tries to help out, but the two droids recovered too and begin attacking her. She had to keep her distance, but they were getting closer to her. She quickly took out her Grappling Gun and fires it before the cable pulls her away from the droids. She took out some smoke pellets and throws it to give her cover.
The droids are blinded for a moment since their scanners couldn't see through the smoke. Allowing Batgirl to fire another grappling hook and grabs Robin, to pull him to safety as he tries to get some distance. Robin took out a disruptor and uses it to disable their weapons, at least temporarily. The Dark Troopers though didn't let this stop them as they charge at them.
Batgirl and Robin soon begin charging in at the enemy as well. However, they didn't try attacking the enemy directly. Instead, they split up and begin throwing some devices along the walls before throwing them on the ground. Once the two get together and turn to face the droids, the two took out a device with buttons on them.
The moment the droids turned to face them; they pressed the buttons. This caused the devices to activate and release a powerful electrical blast, which begins surging through the droids. Electrocuting the droids and destroy them, which left the sidekicks sighing in relief.
"All right. Looks like they're done," said Robin as he clears his throat and rubs his neck, where he got grabbed. "Are you okay?"
Batgirl nods in response as she looks to see her cape nearly got grabbed. "I'll be all right. But we're not done yet," she knew they still needed to disable to control room. "Come on. Let's finish…"
However, before the two had a chance to head up to the control room, Batgirl got shot in the right shoulder, causing her to fall to the ground in pain.
"Cassandra!" Robin shouted as he looks over and sees the five remaining Dark Troopers coming towards them after circling around the room.
Robin thought they still had time to get to the control room, before the remaining droids arrived. He grabs Batgirl and begins getting her to her feet, but feels a few blasters graze his right leg and shoulder, while other hits his left arm. He yells in pain but managed to fight off the pain and take Batgirl towards the balcony. The Dark Troopers kept on approaching them, while continuing to fire at them.
Robin looks down to see they're trapped and knew there was no way out. However, he knew better than to give up. Without saying a word, he turns to Batgirl who gave him a small nod. As if she knows what he plans to do and is ready for it.
The Dark Troopers kept on approaching them and look ready to finish them off. But Robin leans back over the railing and falls off with Batgirl. The Dark Troopers saw this and begin heading over to the balcony. To see where the two heroes fell off and confirm they've been terminated.
The droids suddenly hear what sounds like beeping device from under the balcony. Without warning, the balcony is blown up by some explosives and caused the droids to fall to their deaths. Meanwhile, Batgirl and Robin are seen hanging from below the area where they climbed to get to the control room. They had lured the droids towards the balcony, to allow them to place explosives under the balcony, in the hope the Dark Troopers would go along the balcony.
Allowing them to blow up the balcony and blow it up, to destroy them. Both sidekicks sighed in relief, before they begin climbing back up to get to the control room.
Earlier, after Batman got tossed off the second floor and fell to the ground, he looks over to see Thrawn having pulled a grappling gun of his own. Using it to grab Batman and pulls him down to join him.
"I told you before what would happen if your kin got involved," said Thrawn as he hears the sounds of the sidekicks fighting the droids. "Now, their deaths will be on your hands."
Batman managed to break free of the cables and scowls at him. "Not while I'm still standing."
Thrawn gave a small chuckle. "From the looks of things, that won't be long now," he replied before he took out a knife. "I'm sure you're aware my blades were able to pierce through your armor, correct?"
"I figured with all the time you've been studying me, that you would have figured out a way to pierce through my armor," said Batman knowing Thrawn knows all about him, which means it includes his tech and armor. "But I won't let you get the chance to use it to finish me off."
"We shall see," said Thrawn as he charges in and swings his weapon.
Batman managed to dodge and block his weapon with his wrist gauntlet. Keeping it from piercing through his wrist gauntlet and from stabbing him. Batman tries pushing him back and tries to grab his hand or at least knock the weapon off his hand. But Thrawn was too quick and familiar with his own fighting style.
Thrawn managed to move around Batman and slash across his back. Batman staggers forward and fell on one knee. Thrawn rushes over and tries to stab him to his back. Batman though managed to dodge the attack and grabs his arm, before throwing him over his shoulder to the ground.
Batman then tries to break his arm, but Thrawn managed to move his body around and drives his knee to the bottom of Batman's jaw to knock him to the ground. Thrawn goes to try stabbing him with his knife to stab him in the shoulder, but Batman grabs his right wrist to keep the knife from hitting him. Batman quickly wraps his legs around his waist and begins tightening him. Thrawn groans in pain and was making it hard to keep trying to stab him.
Thrawn tries to punch Batman with his free hand, but Batman caught it with his free hand. Thrawn used this chance to try lifting Batman up. Lifting him off the ground, showing the strength the Chiss as he swings Batman towards the wall and hits him hard. Thrawn sees this didn't work and tries it again to try wearing hm down.
Batman though managed to hold out before Thrawn tries again, but Batman managed to free his arms and then using his legs to swing his opponent over. Launching him towards the wall instead, which managed to make it damage the wall. Batman begins trying to recover, before Thrawn began slowly getting to his knees. Spitting out blood as he tries to recover as well.
Thrawn sees his knife on the ground and tries to grab it, but Batman throws a Batarang at it and it goes off. Shattering the knife and allowing Batman to tackle Thrawn. Sending him towards the wall, but Thrawn begins bringing his fists down to slam his opponent. Batman fell to his knees, which allows Thrawn to pick him up and goes to knee him in the face again, but Batman grabs him by his thighs.
Batman then drives his elbow into his throat, causing Thrawn to stagger back. Batman then drives his right arm down on his left leg and managed to damage Thrawn's knee. Thrawn yells from the pain, but he managed to punch Batman across the face. Batman staggers back, which allows Thrawn to now tackle him towards the ladder and damaged it.
Batman coughs up blood, but he wasn't done yet. Batman begins driving his fists down to Thrawn's back, but Thrawn pulls out a second knife and stabs his foe on the left thigh leg. Batman yells in pain, but he grits through the pain and kicks out his injured leg. This caused Thrawn to yell out in pain as well, which allows Batman to wrap his arms around him and headbutts him, making him bleed from the mouth.
Batman then activates his rocket boots and flies them up to the ceiling before they crashed. The two men soon fell to the ground, and both begin panting heavily. Both men appeared exhausted. Both men appearing tapped out as they feel their bodies being left nearly beaten.
Batman begins struggling to get to his hands and knees as he coughs up some more blood. All the while Thrawn struggled to get up too, but his left leg was still injured. Both men stare at one another and looks ready to continue. Batman pulls out Thrawn's knife and tosses it at him, but Thrawn caught it and charges at him. Batman tries using his rocket boots to try tackling him.
Thrawn kicks up a piece of his broken staff and tosses it at Batman. Hitting the Dark Knight in the face and causes him to fall to the ground. Thrawn grabs Batman from behind and lifts him before tossing him over him (Overhead-German Suplex). He tosses him across the floor and runs over to kick Batman towards the glass window, cracking it.
Batman fell to the ground and begins panting heavily. Batman could be seen bleeding from his mouth, nose, and forehead as it seeps down from his mask to his face. Thrawn could see Batman is done. He knew it and knew it was time to finish him off.
"I told you before, this would be your end," said Thrawn as he begins using his staff to hold him up as he slowly walks over to him. "You thought by going down this path you would find some closure. That you think you're making any changes with your little crusade? That you're saving anyone with what you're doing? We both know that's a lie."
Thrawn moves towards Batman before he kneels in front of him. "For every criminal you lock away, more will take their place. More will appear to destroy more homes, harm the innocent, and even take more lives. You're hope of using fear as a weapon has failed. For how can fear work on those without fear?"
Thrawn presses his blade against Batman's face, before he narrows his eyes at him. "Your actions have only helped these criminals become stronger. Allowing them to recruit more to join their side, to help them spread their chaos across the galaxy, and make your efforts completely pointless. You can't win. Your mission has been a failure, Batman."
Thrawn then begins activating a hologram and shows the images of what's going on. Not just in Arkham City, but also at where Daniel's sister, friends, and loved ones are at. Showing the TYGER soldiers attacking the prison city and the apartment building. With so many lives being lost in this fight.
"You failed them, Batman. And now you will die here, all alone," said Thrawn as he stood up and prepares to finish it. "Now it is time to finish this. It is time for the legend of the Batman to die here and now."
Thrawn swings his weapon down, but suddenly Batman swings his right arm over and slashes off Thrawn's right arm off with his own sword that he dropped earlier. Thrawn's eyes widened when he saw his arm being severed from his body. Batman begins to get up before he punches Thrawn square in the face.
"Wrong, Thrawn," said Batman as he spits out the blood. "My mission hasn't gone the way I had hope it would, but it doesn't mean it has been a failure. We did make a change in the galaxy. We have brought hope to the galaxy and have caused the people the no longer be afraid of these criminals. The only one who's failed, is you, Thrawn."
Thrawn tries to punch Batman, but Batman punches Thrawn across the face. Batman begins repeatedly punching and kicking him, before tossing him across the ground.
"You thought if you knew everything about me, my family, and friends that you would defeat me. That trying to play psychological wargames against me you'd be able to beat me. That if you wore me down and saw my failures, you'd beat me. But end?" Batman twirls the weapon and hits Thrawn with the butt end of the weapon, knocking him to the ground. "It's because of my family and friends that helped me stop you."
Batman turns to see his kids getting to the control room and begin connecting Oracle to the computer to shut down Protocol 10.
"It's because of them that we've been able to stop you, Thrawn. Them who despite everything they've been through, despite all the hell they've been through, they never gave up," said Batman as he turns to Thrawn who was struggling to get up. "They never gave up on me and never gave up on what we've been fighting for."
The computer screens soon begin showing Protocol 10 is shutting down and the TYGER Soldiers have been ordered to return to base.
"Father, it's over," said Batgirl as Robin helps tend to her wounds.
"They're heading back, and Oracle has sent the Jedi Council everything," said Robin who tends to his own wounds once he finished caring for his sister.
Batman is glad to hear that, before he walks over to Thrawn. "You're finished, Thrawn. It's over. You and your soldiers will all face trial for your crimes. And you will all face judgement."
Thrawn begins to chuckle softly as he used his own sword to stand to his feet. "You think it's over? This is just the beginning. You cannot stop me, soon I will command forces beyond your comprehension. I've achieved what the great Batman could never do."
Thrawn begins staggering back but managed to regain his composure before grabbing his sword and stood ready to fight. "The galaxy will forever thank..." suddenly a sword pierced through his chest from behind by a sword. "…me?"
The sword pulled from his chest and is revealed to be Ra's al Ghul who has attacked him. "Your part in this is over, Thrawn."
Batman, Batgirl, and Robin look on shocked by what just happened. Not only did Ra's appear to be revealed as Thrawn's master, but he's been stabbed by him from behind.
Batman rushes to Thrawn and tries to stop the bleeding, while the Chiss looks on surprised. "Why? I did everything you wanted."
Ra's walks over towards the window and looks down into the destruction that has been caused by Protocol 10, while he continued to speak to Thrawn.
"Indeed. You clearly demonstrated that Batman is better than you," Ra's turns towards Batman, who he sees he's trying to save Thrawn. "Let him die, detective."
"He was your puppet, Ra's. Why?" Batman asked wondering why Ra's did this to an ally and someone he was trying to replace him with.
"You said I could replace you...This was...our vision..." said Thrawn who knew that Ra's had come to him long ago.
Offering him a chance to create a better future for the Republic. No. For the whole galaxy. To bring about peace and order, while destroying all those who stand in the way of their perfect galaxy.
"And you failed to see it through," said Ra's as he turns to see Batgirl and Robin. "Just as you two failed to live up to the legacy of the League of Assassins. You, the daughter of Lady Shiva, who had you done simply as you were told, could have replaced your failure of a mother. And Damian…my own grandson. How you've become such a disappointment."
"Y-You knew about me?" Robin asked who was shocked to hear that his grandfather knew of his existence.
"Please. Your mother could never keep things hidden from me. I had hope she would have kept you with us and you would have ended up inheriting everything from me. But instead?" Ra's turns towards Batman and sighed. "You ended up being like him. Too weak to do what is necessary. But…"
Ra's then turns towards Thrawn and spoke to him next. "You provided the same qualities as the detective. Perhaps even a greater understanding of what needed to be done to usure in peace in the galaxy. I gave you a chance to prove your worth, providing you with limitless resources for your plan. You came close, but you have failed me too."
"He's going to die, Ra's. He needs medical attention. Now!" said Batman as he tries to save the life of the man, he was just fighting moments ago. Do as you wish, detective. He is already dead to me. This is a good day, detective."
"Good? People are dying," said Batman who knew there weas nothing good about this.
The world will not miss them, why should you? Look at my work. You may have defeated Thrawn, but this is just the beginning," Ra's turns towards the heroes and extends his arms to them. "Come with me, we will wipe this galaxy clean. We can do it, together."
"Never. You're wrong, Ra's. You've become what you've always fought against, and we will stop you," said Batman as his kids stood by his side and looks ready to fight by his side.
Thrawn turns to see this and couldn't help but chuckle softly. "E-Ev-en de-spit-e all t-ha-t has ha-ppe-ned. Yo-u're st-icking to your beliefs…I co-mme-nd you, Dark Knight," he soon looks up at the ceiling before he begins speaking again…for the last time. "Computer: A-cti-vat-e Pro-toc-ol 11."
"What are you doing?" Ra's asked wondering what Thrawn is up to.
"Pass…c-co-de…Wayne…" Thrawn finished speaking before he turns towards the Dark Knight. "Run…" was the last thing Thrawn said before he gave his final breath.
"Get out of there! Now!" Oracle shouted through the communicators when she found out what Thrawn is doing.
Behind them, the computer screen begins showing a countdown from 10 seconds. Batman grabs his kids and begins running them towards the window. Ra's tried to pull his sword out, but Batman tackles him through the window with his kids by his side. They soon fall off the tower, towards the ground as the tower goes off. Blowing up and sending the four of them hurdling towards the ground even faster.
Batgirl grabs Robin and managed to hold on to him, before she activates her rocket boots to help glide them towards a rooftop. While Batman goes to grab Ra's and keep him from hitting the ground. However, the moment he grabbed Ra's, the leader of the League of Assassins begins pulling out his sword. Going to stab himself and kill the Batman too.
Batman though saw it coming and pulls away, just as Ra's stabbed himself. Batman begins gliding with his cape and flies towards a nearby streetlight. Ra's though ended up landing on the spiked part of the Arkham City sign, killing him. Batman looks up at the burning tower and to where Ra's landed.
"Daniel? Are you okay? Is everyone all right?" Oracle asked hoping her family are okay.
"We're all okay," said Batman as he looks over the rooftop to see his kids are safe. "We managed to get out of the tower before it blew up."
"Thank God you're all okay," said Oracle who sighed in relief that her family are safe. "What happened up there? Once the kids connected me to the control room's mainframe, I couldn't hear what happened."
"Ra's al Ghul was the power behind Thrawn," Batman explained everything to his sister. How this was all part of Ra's plan and how he used Thrawn to be his successor. "Once Thrawn failed him, Ra's turned his back on him."
"You're kidding? Where are they now?" Oracle asked.
"Thrawn died from the wound Ra's gave him. As for Ra's," Batman looks over to where Ra's body is at. "Let's just say he's going to need a trip to the Lazarus Pit."
Batman knew this was the end of Ra's al Ghul and Thrawn. However, this night is far from over as he remembers what he needed to do now.
"Oracle, get a lock on where Talia is at. I need to save her before…" Batman soon stops when he heard the Joker's voice through the speakers.
"Hello! Is anyone there?" Batman looks up to see on the large monitor, the Joker has appeared. "Hello, Batman. I know you can hear me. I've not caught you at a bad time, have I?" the Joker asked while appearing to be in front of the old movie theater not far from here. "I was worried you may have forgotten about little old me."
The camera soon pans out to show Talia on the ground, with her hands tied behind her back as the Joker continued to speak. "Take a look at your girlfriend, who, as you can see, is in danger of having her pretty little brains splattered all over this camera."
The Joker shows he has a gun in his right hand and moves the muzzle against Talia's head. Who, despite her situation, didn't seem concerned, and spoke in a calm tone.
"Ignore him, beloved. Let him die!" said Talia.
"Ah, how romantic. Only problem is, I've never felt better, and we both know, you really can't ignore me. Can you?" said Joker knowing Batman won't be able to resist coming to save his damsel in distress.
"So, listen, Batman. I'm putting on a little show for you. It's going to be a doozy. A real red-carpet affair," said Joker as its clear now why he chose the movie theater for them to fight in. Always one for the dramatics. "You'd better hurry though, if you take too long, the leading lady may be found dead in her dressing room."
As the Joker laughed at this, he presses his gun against Talia's face, showing he's not playing around with what he's going to do.
"This isn't good," said Oracle as she managed to hack into the cameras in the area where the Joker and Talia is at. "Looks like the Joker has at least seven, eight, no ten snipers all around the area. Two of which are at the entrance of the movie theater with the Joker and Talia."
"Nothing we can't handle," said Batman who wasn't worried, but knew he has to worry.
"Hold on! You're badly injured and the poison in your system is wearing your body down," said Oracle who knew better than to have her brother go out and fight. "Wait till I have Ahsoka, and the others go help you. Now that I've taken over the city's security systems, I can make sure you'll have some backup."
"There's no time," said Batman as he knew he couldn't wait. "We'll stop the Joker and save Talia. In the meantime, get the Jedi and the Republic forces down here to take control."
"Daniel, are you sure about this?" said Oracle who didn't want to risk her brother's safety, but she knew he wasn't wrong.
She looks through the monitors and knew the others were still recovering from the fight. They were also busy trying to arrest the remaining TYGER Soldiers left behind and tend to the wounded. Even if the Jed did head over, it would take too much time. And wouldn't get there in time to help them against the Joker.
"We'll be okay," said Batman as he turns to his children. "We're going to stop the Joker and save Talia."
Oracle sighed softly and knew she didn't have much of a choice. "All right. Just come back alive and be careful."
"We will, don't worry," said Batman before he turns to his children. "Take out the snipers and make sure not to get seen. I'll take the Joker and save Talia."
Batgirl and Robin both knew they needed to do what their father told them. In his condition, he needed to focus on taking out the Joker, not the snipers. They also knew in their condition; they wouldn't be able to help in his fight against the Joker. So, the two soon head off to take out the snipers, while their father stood where he's at, trying to make sure his body can hold out a little longer.
"Just hold out," said Batman to himself as he tries to get his body to hold it together, despite the poison starting to take its toll. "Just a little bit more time."
Batgirl and Robin made their way over to find the snipers all around the area where the Joker is holding out on. Right under where the sign is at, has the title: "Joker the Immortal".
Looks like something the Joker's handywork. Batgirl and Robin both split up. With Batgirl gliding over to the nearest rooftop and took out one of the snipers. While Robin rushes over and tackles one of the snipers.
His legs wrapped around the sniper's neck and choked him out.
Batgirl and Robin continued to make their way around to take out the snipers, while hearing the Joker speaking through the microphone. Waiting for the Batman to show up, so their final act can begin. Both masked sidekicks had to hurry. They knew they couldn't waste too much time.
They managed to take out at least six in total snipers, leaving only two on the rooftops near the movie theater. While two by the door.
Batgirl begins sneaking up on one of the snipers before she begins grabbing hm from behind. Wrapping her arms around his neck and begins choking him out. However, the sniper from across from their position, saw this and goes to fire at her. But Robin got behind him and hits him in the back of the head with his staff, taking him out.
But by doing this, the sniper fired a shot, which the Joker heard and knew the Batman is here.
"I'll see you soon! BYEEEE!" said the Joker before taking Talia with him into the building.
Batgirl and Robin begin preparing to make their way down but saw the two remaining snipers aimed their weapon towards the two sidekicks. However, before they could open fire, Batman arrived behind the men. Grabbing them from the back of their heads and knock them out. Once they got taken out, Batman sees his kids making their way down.
"Father! The Joker is inside with mother," said Robin who knew they needed to go save his mother.
"I know," said Batman before he turns to his kids and kneels before them. "Stay here and make sure the Joker's men don't get inside, okay?"
Batgirl and Robin both nod understanding what their father wants. Both kids lean in and begin hugging him, hoping he'll come back to them soon. Batman hesitates for a moment, before he begins hugging them back. He soon breaks the hug and heads inside to stop the Joker.
As he made his way inside, memories of this place begin coming back to him. How he came here with his parents when he was eight years old, how excited he was to come here to watch the movies, and how he thought this was the best night ever. It of course didn't go that way and since then, he hasn't been back here since that night.
Batman soon made his way inside, where he saw all the seats have been removed. Leaving only the stage intact and the upper-level seats. On the stage, was the Joker with Talia right next to him, on her knees. Behind them is the screen, where the movie can be projected in.
Along the areas where the exit is at, is lined up with explosives. Looks like the Joker really went all out.
The Joker sees the Batman enter the room and kept the blaster aimed at Talia's head. "Hurry up and take your seat, Batman. The show's about to begin."
"Let's just talk about this," said Batman as he tries to buy some time before he can find a way to disarm the Joker.
The Joker begins to laugh with what Batman suggested. "Now you want to talk? Too late, Batman! Give me the cure!" the Joker demanded as he kept the blaster against Talia's head.
This confirmed what he suspected. But before he had a chance to say anything, Talia got freed and grabs the Joker's arm, to disarm him. She grabs the sword and stabs the Joker from behind. She kicks him off the stage, before turning to Batman.
"Problem solved," said Talia as she didn't seem to show any remorse for what she did. "You didn't need to…"
"Why?" Talia asked interrupting Batman. "You would never do it. You left me no choice, besides…" she soon took out a blue vial from her back pocket and showed it's the cure. "I had to save you. Harley Quinn stole it for him. I took it back."
Batman looks towards the vial, before he turns towards the Joker. "That's not what I meant. I meant you didn't need to do that, because…" he then pulls Talia away before a blaster shot missed her. "That wasn't the real Joker."
The source of the shot came from up on the balconies, from the real sick Joker, as he could be heard laughing and coughing. "Bravo! Bravo, Batman!" said the Joker as he spoke up from the balcony. "I should have known you would have figured it out. I had hoped my little surprise would have been a surprise, but it seems I was wrong. That's why you're the galaxy's greatest detective. How long did you know though?"
Batman moves Talia behind him, before he stood ready to fight. "I knew for some time. I knew you didn't want to risk your men and your enemies from finding out the truth. Not wanting to find out you were sick and dying. So, you decided to get someone to impersonate you, someone who would be able to get your performance down without any flaws."
The Joker laughed and coughed once more before he spoke up. "Right on the nose, Batman. I knew I couldn't just go with some any old rando to play me. I had to go with someone who not only plays the role of anyone for a living but can literally become that very person."
"Ladies and gentlemen. For one night oly, standing in for yours truly, and doing a damn fine job of it, I give you…"
Batman turns to the fake Joker, before he begins to transform. Batman has Talia back away before the figure begins to grow tall. Transforming his body as if he was made of clay. Batman knew who it is and knew there's no one who could play the Joker.
"Clayface!" the Joker introduced as the former movie actor Basil Karlo turned criminal, Clayface, is revealed to be working for the Joker.
"Talia, run!" Batman pushes Talia away as Clayface's right hand shapeshifts into a hammer and slams it down at him. Batman moved out of the way and managed to avoid getting hit. "You weren't even supposed to be in here, Karlo. Why work for the Joker? You were supposed to be out on probation. Batgirl worked hard to get you released."
Batman knew that after adopting Cassandra, she ended up meeting Basil Karlo. The two formed a kinship and helped her learn to speak. She did her best to get her aunt to help Basil get probation. And work on a way to help him appear human again, while still using his powers, in exchange for using them for good.
After the Arkham incident, he was given his probation. But ended up disappearing a few months ago, but the others assumed he was laying low since they knew Thrawn was after any criminals who were still on the loose.
"I…know…I can't…stop…" said Clayface as he struggled to stop what he's doing, but nothing was working.
The Joker coughed loudly while trying to laugh. "Confused, Batman? Well, there's a good reason why he's working for me. I injected Clayface with special little nanites, curtesy of our former warden, Thrawn."
Batman knew the nanites that is in Clayface. They can control him to do whatever the user wants. Even if its against their will. Joker must have been using it to make Clayface play as him and make sure he can't fight back.
"Stop me…Batman…" said Clayface who knew he needed to be stopped, before he disappoints his friend, Cassandra.
"I will," said Batman who knew he needed to free Clayface. "Talia, get out of here, I'll stop them."
Batman turns to where Talia was at, but saw she was gone. Batman hopes she got away before Clayface swings his arms and shapeshifts them into blades. Batman managed to avoid getting hit as he throws a Cryo-grenade to see if it will work on freezing him. It managed to affect his arm, but he knew he needed to use more of them to freeze him completely.
Clayface shapeshifts his body to form a giant spiked ball with his face in the front. Clayface soon charges in at Batman, but the Dark Knight managed to avoid getting hit. However, he moved near one area where the explosives are at, causing Clayface to hit the bombs. The explosion scattered Clayface into pieces, which allowed Batman to throw multiple Cryo-grenades to freeze him.
This ends up working and Clayface freezes him. Allowing Batman to charge in and pulls out the sword from his body.
Batman then prepares to put another Cryo-grenade within his body but is shot at by the Joker.
"Looks like I have to do everything around here, huh?" said the Joker before pressing a button, which causes the nanites to heat up Clayface's body to unfreeze him as he lets out a loud roar. "Now, get him! Kill him now and get me my…"
"Cure?" Talia soon appears behind Joker and aims a blaster at the back of his head. "Stand down, beast or your master will die."
The Joker though didn't seem concerned and begins to laugh while coughing loudly. "Didn't your mother ever teach you never to pick on the sick? You never know what you might catch!"
"Talia!" Batman shouted for Talia to get away, but it was too late.
The Joker tosses a round object behind her, which released a bright light. Blinding Talia, which allowed the Joker to stab her in the chest.
"No!" Batman tries to go to Talia but is grabbed by Clayface and tossed towards the stage.
"Whoops, looks like you're out, girly," said Joker as he pushes her off the balcony and she falls to the ground.
Batman managed to get to his feet and avoids getting him by Clayface. He rushes over and dodges his attacks, before he uses his rocket boots to fly past him. He grabs Talia and flies them away, before dropping more Cryo-grenades to freeze Clayface once more. Batman lands on the stage with Tala in his arms, as his cowl shows her vitals are dropping.
"D-Dan-iel," Talia struggled to speak as she moves her right hand to his face. "I-I'm so-rry m-my belo-ved," she soon stopped breathing and her hand fall from his face to the floor.
Batman could feel himself getting emotional. Not only did he once again fail to save someone he loves, but it was at the hands of the Joker. The crazed clown's laughter and coughing could be heard echoing across the room. The Batman's expression turned to one of anger as he turns towards Joker, who kept on mocking the Batman.
"Oh, sorry about that, Bats. But look on the bright side, she went out much easier than Skywalker did," said Joker as he laughed once more, while coughing loudly.
Batman balled up his fist as he pulls the knife from Talia, before tossing it away. He placed her hands over her chest before he stood up. He was full of rage. He wanted to beat the hell out of the Joker, but he knew he couldn't give in.
If he does, then everyone will die.
Clayface breaks free of the ice once more and attacks Batman. Batman avoids his attacks as he lures him away from the stage. Batman leaps out of the way as he lures Clayface towards another one of the explosives. Clayface extends his hands before shapeshifting them to form two giant hammers.
Clayface tries to slam Batman with both hands, but Batman fires his grappling gun and flies out of the way. The two hands hit the explosives and blew up his hands. Batman then dives towards Clayface before tossing multiple Cryo-grenades, freezing hm in place. Batman lands on the frozen villain, before he begins slashing him into pieces.
The Joker, seeing this, knew it was time for Plan B. "You're making me late for my spa treatment. I mean, it's not like you've got a girl to save anymore, is it?" the Joker then faked a gasp with what he said, before laughing again. "Oh, I'm sorry. Too soon?" he then pulls from behind his back a detonator. "Would a change of scenery help ease the pain?"
Batman soon looks around the floor and realizes the Joker had placed hidden explosives all around the room. Batman took cover near Clayface before the explosives detonated. Batman tries to use his rocket boots, but they got damaged by the falling debris, causing him to fall to the ground. Batman lets out a loud groan, as he struggled to get up.
Seeing the sword land in front of him, he looks around and realizes where he's at.
They're in the room with the Lazarus Pit. Batman didn't think the movie theater was built over this room. He knew he had to keep the Joker away from here. Otherwise, it will be the end of everything.
However, he still needed to finish off Clayface, who was now recovering from the attack. He sees Clayface beginning to divide himself and make multiple clay soldiers. All charging in and attacking Batman. Batman dodges and slashes at the enemy.
Cutting them down one at a time as fast as possible. The slashed clay though all begin reforming into the large Clayface as he goes to attack Batman. Batman knew he needed to free Clayface of the nanites. After looking around the room, he knew how he'd be able to do it.
Batman begins luring Clayface away from the pit and more towards the electrical equipment. Clayface kept on attacking him and firing multiple projectiles at him. Batman managed to combine the remaining Cryo-grenades he had left and leaps behind Clayface. He then throws it at the enemy and begins freezing the criminal.
Batman then pushes the frozen enemy into the electrical equipment just as the nanites begin melting Clayface. Batman stabs him with the sword and steps back as the blade touches the electricity and begins shocking. Clayface begins yelling in pain as he feels himself getting shocked. Unaware though that the nanites inside of him were the ones getting shocked. One-by-one they were all being destroyed, until every single nanite inside of Clayface was gone.
Clayface managed to push himself off the blade and falls to the ground. He begins panting heavily as he feels his body finally back under his control.
"Karlo? Are you okay?" Batman asked as he grabs the sword and kept it in hand.
Clayface looks up at the Batman and slowly nods in response as he stood up. "I'm sorry, Batman. I couldn't control myself. The Joker, he injected me with those vile nanites, and used me to pretend to be like him. Though it was a role I never thought I'd ever saw myself doing."
"Don't worry about it. I suggest you get out of here though and soon before the Jedi find out what happened," said Batman as he knew if the Republic found out Karlo was here disguised as the Joker, they would think he relapsed.
"Agreed," said Clayface who knew he needed to leave and as soon as possible. As he prepared to leave, he turns towards Batman to ask him something. "Cassandra, does she know?"
Batman knew he couldn't lie to Clayface, especially if Cassandra sees him again. "She knows. But she knows you wouldn't have worked for the Joker without it being beyond your control."
Clayface is glad to hear that. He soon begins taking his leave and heads out of the prison city.
Once he was gone, Batman took out the cure and begins opening the vial. He begins drinking half of it and could feel his body feeling better. His cowl was having his suit scanned his body and showed he was cured of the poison. Leaving only half of it left, which can be used to cure the Joker.
"Get out of the way, Bats!" the Joker shouted as he appeared above the Batman on a platform as he looks to dive into the Lazarus Pit. "I've got a date with immortality."
Batman sees this and knows he couldn't allow this. So, he grabs the sword and throws it. The sword missed the Joker, but it hit the controls, which caused the platform under the Joker to come apart. This also caused the power generator to come crashing down and land in the Lazarus Pit.
This caused the Lazarus Pit and the equipment to go off. Blowing up and destroying the Lazarus Pit, even knocked Batman away.
Batman began regaining consciousness as he begins looking to see the vial of the cure in his hand. He begins getting up as he looks around to see nothing but smoke and damaged equipment.
"Quick, the cure!" the Joker could be heard calling to the Batman from the smoke. "What are you waiting for. C'mon! I killed your girlfriend, poisoned Coruscant, and hell…it's not even breakfast," he said all this while laughing. "But, so what? We all know you'll save me."
Batman held the vial in his hand and knew he should just destroy it. He knew how easy it would be to do this and knew if he did, it would be the end of the Joker.
"Every decision you've ever made ends with death and misery. People die. I stop you. You'll just break out and do it again," said Batman who knew nothing he says or does will ever change the Joker.
The Joker can be heard laughing and coughing before he spoke up again. "Think of it as a running gag!" the Joker soon appeared behind the Batman and stabs him in the shoulder, which unfortunately caused him to drop the vial, shattering it. "No!"
The Batman knocks him away as he pulls the knife from his shoulder. The Joker fumbles towards the cure and tries to lick it to cure himself. Desperately trying to save himself, but he knew it was pointless and the cure is gone.
The Joker looks up at the Batman, looking angry at him for the first time ever for what happened. "Are you happy now?"
Batman knew thar this wasn't him. He dropped it because he got stabbed and knew the Joker did this to himself. He signed his own death warrant for what he did. Had he not done it, well.
"Do you want to know something funny? Even after everything you've done. Even after all the harm you've caused, all the lives you've taken, and all the blood on your hand. I would have saved you," said Batman who knew even after what has happened, he would have tried to save his life.
The Joker begins moving on his ass and begins laughing while coughing and gasping loudly. Knowing that the Batman would indeed have tried to save him. Even if he blew up the entire planet, killed off millions of lives, or has taken those close to him, he would have still done the right thing. No matter what.
"That actually is…pretty funny…" said the Joker as he begins lying down on his back, while gasping for air. He begins gasping once, twice, until finally, the Clown Prince of Crime, gasped his last breath and has died while smiling.
The Batman stared down at the man who not only was his greatest enemy of all time but was the greatest threat to the entire galaxy. He didn't smile though. He didn't celebrate for what happened and felt no satisfaction that the clown was dead. All he felt was pity.
He knew that the Joker was sick. He knew had things not gone the way it did, maybe his life would have gone differently. Instead? This is how his life would end.
Meanwhile, outside the movie theater, Batgirl and Robin stood by ready to keep the Joker's men from breaking in. They could see the Joker's men heading their way towards them. All armed to the teeth, while chanting the Joker's name. Batgirl and Robin stood ready to fight, knowing this won't end well.
Thankfully though, Nightwing, Red Robin, and Batwoman arrived to join their allies. Along with them though, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Tigress, Red Arrow, and Wild Cat arrived to assist Batman's allies. They soon had a standoff with the Joker's men as they got ready to fight. Harley Quinn soon showed up and looks ready to fight them.
Before a fight could break out, the door behind the heroes begins to open. The Joker's men expected it to be the Joker himself, carrying Batman's dead corpse or holding his severed head. However, they saw coming out of the building is Batman. Batman is seen walking out with the Joker's body in his arms.
The chants soon died down as they all couldn't believe what they're seeing. Even Harley Quinn looked on in horror that her beloved is dead.
Batman's allies meanwhile looked on in shocked that Batman is seen with the Joker's dead body. All confused on what happened and wondering if he finally did it. Robin was going to speak, but Batwoman stopped him. She could tell from the look in Batman's eyes, he didn't kill the Joker, but didn't want to talk about this right nw.
Catwoman watched on from where she was at and knew the nightmare was finally over. The Joker is dead, and his reign of terror has died with him.
Outside of the prison city's entrance, Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, Shaak-Ti, and Yoda all stood outside with the armed Republic forces. Ready to get inside and begin arresting all the criminals. While also ready to get medical attention to the wounded. While making sure no TYGER guard escapes punishment.
"Soldiers, make sure once those doors open, no one escapes until we can identify them and find out who they are. I also want…what the?" Master Kenobi sees the door open and to everyone's surprise, they see the Batman walking out of the prison city, with the Joker's dead body in his arms.
The Jedi looked on confused on what's going on and why the Joker is in Batman's arms. While the soldiers looked on confused, but also seem happy to see the clown is dead.
The Batman sets the Joker's body down on one of the gunships, before he begins walking away.
"Batman? What the hell happened in there?" Master Kenobi asked, but saw Batman wasn't responding and kept on walking away.
Leaving the Jedi and soldiers looking on completely confused. Left with so many questions on what happened with the Joker and in the prison city.
Master Yoda though knew they'll worry about this later, right now. They have a job to do.
"Assist the people inside, we must," said Master Yoda as he managed to snap the Jedi and soldiers out of it, before they all realized they have a job to do.
Master Windu, Shaak-Ti, and Plo Koon begin heading inside with the soldiers to help the people. To assist the wounded, arrest the criminals, rescue the civilians who were locked in here, and find out what happened in here.
As they left, Master Kenobi turned to Master Yoda and then to the Joker. "When do we tell the people what happened? When do we tell them that the Joker is dead?"
"Hmm. Once we found out everything, then tell them we will," said Master Yoda as he instructs the soldiers to take the Joker's body in for autopsy. "For now? Do our duties, we must."
Master Kenobi nods knowing whatever happened, they doubt the Batman had anything to do with the Joker's death. They begin heading inside and hope that they'll find out what happened in here.
Meanwhile, watching from afar was a cloaked figure. He watched through binoculars what had occurred and begins removing them. He appeared to be wearing a hood that covered much of his face and a cloak that covered every bit of his body. The figure soon stood up and looks up into the sky to see the Batman flying off in his vehicle.
The figure begins to walk away from the scene and head towards the building he came out of. Into the shadows of the building as the sound of a loud mechanical breathing could be heard, echoing in the darkness.
That's the end of Story 3 of the Arkham series and yeah that's pretty much how it ended. With the Joker dead, Talia dead, Ra's al Ghul dead, and Thrawn dead. On the bright side, Clayface is still alive. I kept him alive, mainly for Cassandra, who I'm sure would be sad that her friend was killed off.
Still, glad I was able to get this story done and hope you all enjoyed this. While happy to make a few changes to the story and keep things a little bit like from the game. Now, I won't be able to make the next one for a while since I've got other stories to finish up. I promise though I will get to Arkham Knight and finish the series.
It's just going to take some time since I have other stories to finish up too. The next one is my Power Rangers story. I need to finish that one up soon. So, I can get to the other stories.
I can say though that the fourth part of this story will take place a year later after the events of Arkham City. But there will be a lot of changes made to the story than from the game. What kinds of changes though? And will we see Skywalker return?
