Chapter 28
It was still early but that didn't mean the people in the quiet little hotel room were sleeping soundly. While Ronda dozed in one bed Robin quietly moved about the room. Something was bothering her this morning and she didn't know what it was. They had talked to her Uncle Mac the day before and he hadn't said much about her parents. That must be what was bothering her this morning. Something had happened and she knew it involved them. She could feel it, or maybe it was her gut, she thought with a grin. They need to be alright, whatever is happening her parents need to be alright.
Robin pulled back the curtain a little so she could look out at the early morning light. It really was pretty here, peaceful. Looking out at the natural beauty of the morning, Robin let herself wonder where Serenity would be from here. That magical place they had all hidden, where they met Dominice and she helped them. She wondered where that barn her father had been staying at until her uncle found him might be. She is in the area their last little adventure happened and it was easier thinking about that than worrying about what their current adventure is throwing at them.
Staring out the window, Robin's mind wandered to happier times. With her family all together, so many wonderful memories. Even when they weren't married her parents were always there for her and each other. They were so good for each other and were the two closest people she knew. Even though she understood they had to keep secrets because of their jobs Robin knew that wasn't the case for them, or at least it wasn't a problem. Even if they couldn't fully share, her parents always knew the other one understood and was there for them. Just like now, that made her grin again. They have each other again. Robert and Anna Scorpio will be alright. They will come home to her.
After some time lost in her thoughts, Robin turned from the window, feeling a little better. "How are you doing this morning?" Ronda asked. She hadn't let herself sleep too deeply and when she became aware Robin was out of bed she had remained quiet but had not tried to sleep any longer.
Hearing a voice startled Robin just a bit. "Oh, I didn't know you were up." Robin looked over to see Ronda sitting on the edge of her bed already dressed.
"You were lost in thought when I got up so I didn't want to disturb you," Ronda explained.
"Oh, yeah. I was thinking about my parents."
Ronda could see the sadness in the young woman's eyes. She had already realized Robin didn't like to let her emotions out. Maybe that was because she didn't want to talk about them, or felt she might appear weak if she did. It could be Robin just wasn't comfortable enough with her yet to open up. It didn't matter and Ronda wasn't going to bother her about it. "They are together and they are going to come home to you."
Robin smiled, she needed to hear that this morning. "Thank you." She walked over and sat at the little table in their room, "Could we do some sightseeing today?"
"What for? This is just some little town, I'm sure we've seen all the interesting places already and they weren't all that interesting," Ronda said with a little grin.
"I guess you've been all over the world with work but like San Ramo, this place is special because whatever happened here it meant my parents ended up engaged, then married," Robin admitted a little shyly.
"Oh that's right, you mentioned they were here last year."
"Dad was on the run, for killing Uncle Mac. Uncle Mac found him and saved him from the man that had actually been hired to kill him. Then Mom came after Dad and found them both. Apparently, she attacked Uncle Mac because that was who she saw first. Mom was wailing on him and only stopped when Dad came wandering out of the trees." Robin was smiling as she retold the story she had heard from them.
When she was done Ronda smiled and said, "You want to feel close to them."
"Yeah, I guess so. I want to try to find a few of the places I heard them talk about. That little diner we go to, I think was the same one they had been in but before they were all together. You're right, I need to feel close to them today."
"Sightseeing it is then. Also this way, it won't seem like we are just hiding out in here. We wouldn't want to attract attention, of any kind.
The last thing they need is a good samaritan to report them, thinking she's in some kind of danger. Would people be asking around about strangers around small towns keeping to themselves trying to find her? "Do you think people would be looking for us since we aren't in Port Charles?"
"It's possible." Ronda smiled over at Robin, "We'll go grab breakfast at that little diner then spend the day exploring Finger Lakes and the surrounding area. Try not to think about that stuff too much. We are aware there is danger but we also need to appear like there is nothing to suspect about us being here."
That's what she needed to hear, they have to stay focused. "Thanks, Ronda."
…
In another hotel, in a different country but not really that far away. There was a look of disbelief on Alex's face as she listed to her sister's story. "You did not!"
"Yup, put him in the dumb waiter down he went, I had to jump into the bed and pretend to be him sleeping when the DVX came bursting into the room. Oh, I would have been done for if they flipped back the covers." There was excitement in Anna's voice as she talked.
"All while she left me sleeping in bed. I wake up to the noise of this man crawling into our room. I had a gun on him when Anna came down that dumbwaiter." Robert and Anna were both laughing a little as they retold their first adventure. Alex was grinning from ear to ear, she loved their stories.
"We got the hostage out right under their noses. Then the honeymooners had to go on the run and that's how we ended up in San Ramo where we met Filomena."
"Right, the lady that found you on the beach," Alex cut in. They had been sharing stories as a way to get to know each other and it helped pass the time waiting to hear from Sean. "It's been an adventure since the start. I love it."
Anna looked over at Robert and they shared a smile. "It definitely has been."
It hadn't taken long to figure out, neither Alex nor Anna liked to talk about their childhoods. They had covered the basics but the conversation quickly moved on to topics that made them smile. Either about better times or fun parts of their life that they wanted to share.
The trio sat talking most of the day. None of them felt the need to leave the room and run the risk that someone could be out there looking for them. They had a late lunch and after that Alex asked Robert if he would be willing to talk with her and see if she could offer some tools to help him regain more of his memories. He agreed and while Anna relax in their room Robert and Alex were in her room, talking and working out a mental exercise routine for him.
Anna was laying on the bed reading when Robert came in and stretched out beside her. He buried his face in the pillow and got more settled. "Your sister is tough. I'm beat. She made me do a lot of mental work. Made me try to expand on what I know. She says there is a very good chance I will remember everything I just need to keep working at it."
"That's wonderful, hon."
"Yeah, but she's pushy."
"Oh, poor baby. Your mean sister-in-law wants to push you to get better, whatever will we do?"
"I don't know." Then he grinned over at her, "Alex wants to know what we are doing for dinner."
"I would love to get out of here for a while. Maybe we could do dinner and a movie. Who's going to look for us at a movie theatre?"
He arched an eyebrow and asked, "You want to check out the latest chick flick?"
"Yeah. Let's go watch a romantic comedy." Robert grumbled a little to himself, he shouldn't have said that. "I'll go talk to Alex. See what she wants to watch." Anna leaned over and kissed his cheek, then got out of bed, a smile on her face.
There was still a smile on her face when she walked into the sitting area of the suite. Alex was sipping a cup of tea. "Is he complaining that I'm mean?" she asked with a laugh.
"Yes," Anna told her with a little laugh of her own. "He'll do what you ask of him but he may need some prodding to do it. He will complain but he told me this should help him so I know he will do it. Right now he's resting but suggested we should go see a romantic comedy."
"I did not." Came from the other room, Anna had left the door open behind her.
"I would love that. Can we get something to eat first? I know why we have been in the room basically since we got here but I need to go out and walk around before I scream. I'm not used to being on the run or in hiding."
"This evening we're going out for dinner then a movie. We all need this and I think things are going to get a lot more exciting very soon."
"More exciting than the other night?" Alex asked, a concerned look on her face.
"Yeah, I'm afraid so."
"Alright." Alex paused letting that sink in. "Oddly, hearing that when I know I am going to be with you and Robert isn't as scary as hey some crazed man is coming after you, oh and it might be soon."
"Yeah, sorry about that." Anna sat down beside her, "We will make sure you are alright. You are going to be fine and when this is all over you are going to meet the rest of the family. Our daughter and his brother, and the friends that are as close as family."
"I can't wait." Alex looked over at Anna, she put her head down slightly, then grinned. "I'm kind of looking forward to what comes next. It scares the tar out of me but it's exciting. I've been pulled into an action adventure and the heroes are here to make sure I get through it okay. Does that sound crazy?"
Anna smiled, "No, I have seen this effect before. You will recover and you are not crazy." They both laughed then Anna started to tell her a few tails of other people that ended up getting to play at being heroes because of circumstances out of their control.
…
That afternoon when Sean arrived at the Scorpio home, he walked in the back entrance and made his way to the home office. Mac was expecting him. "Hey Sean, why did you want to meet here?"
"I had to go out and get something and there are a couple of things here I want."
"Oh, what's that?"
"We need to go into the other part of this room," Sean said as he looked at the wall.
Mac instantly understood. "You have a plan I take it."
"One. They need to be able to communicate with us. Two. They should have other IDs in case people are starting to suspect what alias they are using."
Alright, explaining is not a top priority today. "Did you have any luck locating someone in their area to help them out?"
Sean shook his head. "No, after thinking about that for a long while I decided that wasn't actually a good idea. The WSB could turn on them again so they don't need to know where they are. Me asking for a favour like, hey I need a satellite phone, no I'm not the one that needs it. Red flags would be going off everywhere and all eyes would be on St. John."
"Then how are they going to be able to communicate?"
Sean walked over to the second hidden safe and opened it. "We are sending them a satellite phone I just bought, along with another set of IDs. They are going to be on the move again and I want them to have all the help they can get."
"I like where you're going with this. You know what, I think I want to add something to that package. Give their sprites a little lift as well."
Mac walked back out of the hidden room as Sean pulled a few things out of the safe. Sean wanted to get this stuff sent out as quickly as possible. Faison is now a constant threat that needs to be considered. Where is he? Does he have a way to follow Robert and Anna? The longer they have to stay in one place without backup close by the more uneasy Sean felt. They need to be on the move and making their way back here. Once they are closer and they have a plan in place Sean will relax a little but this isn't over until Faison is in prison or dead.
…
The following afternoon, Robert sat at the table reading the paper. He had picked up the Halifax Herald as well as the local paper. It wouldn't hurt to see if there was any information about Ross or the investigation into what happened to him. Most likely the WSB would have covered most of it up but if Ross was acting alone, that might not be the case. He sighed and leaned back as a hand sled across his chest.
"Have I told you how much I love you lately?" she asked then leaned in and kissed his neck.
"Not today."
"Well we can't have that," she whispered. Anna put her hand on his chin and turned his head. "I love you, Robert. I always have and I always will." Then she kissed him tenderly.
"Anna, I love you so much." His fingers moved through her hair as he looked into her eyes. He wanted to pull her into his arms and show her but knew they were not alone. "What have the sisters been up to?"
"We went for a walk, it was nice. We talked a lot more. Now Alex is just relaxing in her room."
"That's good."
"It is. I told her the story of the last year and a half." He stroked her hair as she continued to speak. "About what really happened to us."
Robert adjusted in his chair and Anna smiled and sat on his knee. "How did she react to hearing all of that?"
"It seemed to have a calming effect. Afterwards, she mentioned that she felt better knowing two very driven people were now protecting her and that she was sad we have had to endure Faison's revenge."
"Is that what she called it?" he asked with a chuckle.
"Yeah." Anna's hand slowly moved back and forth on his chest. "We should start moving as soon as we can. We've been here too long."
"I know. Sean's gonna come through for us, Luv. Our job is to give him time to work that Irish charm."
"Do you think Faison could know where we are?"
"I don't think he could but it's Faison so," Robert let out a sigh.
"We can't underestimate him."
"Yeah." Robert pulled her closer. Anna relaxed into him, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I just want to be at home with you and Robin and all of this to be behind us."
"That's what I want too. You and me, snuggled up like this, Robin and Furface there too. Our family together and happy, that's all I've ever wanted."
"We are going to get that. Our family is a little bigger now and we are going to have lots of family get togethers in the future. Now we just need to defeat the bad guy, put him in jail, then go home and tell the world we're alive."
"Oh, that's all? We can get that done by next Wednesday," he said with a smile. Anna leaned in and gave him a quick kiss. "We are going home and no one is stopping us."
"Yes, we are."
A knock at the door interrupted them. They looked over, then back at each other. "Did you order something?" Anna asked.
"Not me."
They stood up and walked over to the door. Robert looked through the peephole to find a courier driver standing there with a package. Robert opened the door as Anna stood behind it. She had picked up the gun they still had and was now covering Robert.
"Yes," he said as he opened the door.
"I've got a package here for Steve Conner. It's from The Outback care of DnD enterprises."
"Awe, I like that as our PR firm's name," Anna said. She lowered the gun and looked around the door. She watched the man as Robert signed for the package. They thanked him and then closed the door. She looked at the package he was now holding, "What kind of stuff did they send us?"
"I don't know. Let's have a look." Robert walked over and put the box on the table then got a knife to cut it open. It was a care package of sorts. Robert pulled out two sets of IDs, he opened them, Gary and Molly O'Neil were now on holiday as well. There was also an envelope that he handed to Anna and a smaller box. Robert pulled that out next, as he opened it Anna started to read the letter now in her hand. They had even included a few photos in it for them. The letter included the number of two satellite phones, the one Ronda had and one Sean now had. Robert turned the satellite phone he had taken out of the second box, studying it. "This is going to come in handy."
"Yes, it will. We can check in, they can contact us. We needed this. Faison is out there somewhere and if he tries something we'll want the backup."
"I think it's time we figure out where we go next, get a good night's sleep then hit the road first thing in the morning."
Anna smiled and took the phone from Robert. "No, first we call our daughter."
"That is an excellent idea."
Anna dialled the number then they waited. "Agent Norris."
"Former Agents Devane and Scorpio here," Anna responded.
"Anna, it is so good to hear your voice. You're alright? You found him."
"I found him," Anna said with a smile as she put her arm around Robert.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't fully understand the situation."
"Enough about that for right now. We want to talk to our daughter." Anna waited, she could hear talking on the other end and then.
"HELLO!"
"Robin! How are you, sweetheart?"
"Mom! I'm good. Where's Daddy?"
"I'm right here, Sweety." He leaned in close, holding Anna.
"Where are you? Are you safe?" Robin asked. "Faison came after me!"
"We know, we're on the move again. Robin, we are heading back. We need to be closer to home now that Faison has made his move," Anna explained. "We have a lot to tell you, I have a twin and that was who Ross was using to lure Faison out of hiding. It didn't work. Ross ended up in the hospital and we think Faison only got wounded. We will have to keep you informed about our plans and movements but for right now I just want to talk."
"We, want that. I miss you, Robin," Robert added.
They ended up talking for close to an hour. The family Scorpio getting some much needed time to just reconnect. They told Robin a bit more about what has happened since Anna had been in Port Charles. It felt like years since then, even if it was only about two months ago. Robin got to tell them how scared she had been, and how alone she would feel at times. Anna and Robert both told her they wished they were there with her, to hug her and tell her everything would be alright. That they will get through this and once again be home in Port Charles together.
When the call ended, they all felt energized. Robert and Anna always knew what they were working towards. Now nothing going to stop them from stopping Faison and getting home to the daughter. This is the part where they call the shots. No one is going to expect them to resurface and take care of Faison but that is what has to happen. They knew it had to be them that stopped him.
