chapter 6: The wedding!
All the guests had arrived. People from the nobility of the Sol dimension and family friends were there. There were also camera crew to broadcast the ceremony for the regular people and photographers who would take pictures through the wedding. There were two lines of benches with four seats that were separated by a aisle. The front seats were taken by Silver and Blaze's closest friends. The first seats on the right side were for (from right to left) Amy, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. Behind them on the second benche were Belle, Omega, Rouge and Shadow. On the left side were (from left to right) Cream, Vanilla, Gemrel and Charmy. Behind them were Big and Froggy, Tangle, Jewel and Whisper. Espio and Marine were (respectfully) the best man and woman so their place was besides the groom and the bride. Vector was going to play the organ.
So far everyone was there. Blaze, Marine, Amy and Cream were the only ones absent. But that was to be expected considering their roles.
Silver, Espio and the priest (an elderly male goat) were already on the pedestal in the bottom of the hall. A big glass window was behind them, lighting the hall.
As for the groom- he was busty checking himself.
"How are my quills? My teeth? My bowtie?"
"Silver, you look fine." Espio said.
"Yes, I do agree." the priest added.
"Fine isn't enough!" Silver said firmly "I need to look perfect! Only the best for Blaze!"
Rouge couldn't help but shake her head, while smiling "If that's how nervous he is at the ceremony, imagine him at the wedding night!" she said to Shadow.
Shadow just rolled his eyes "Hum, let's hope he's at least aware of the female biology..."
At that moment Vector started playing "Here comes the bride" and everybody stopped talking. Silver froze and started staring at the big doors that would soon open, letting his beautiful bride in.
And doors indeed opened and Cream entered. She started hopping through the aisle, throwing petals left and right, while gaining a lot of "Ohhhh"s and "Awwww"s from the guests. When Cream was done, she took her seat next to her mother.
Shortly afterwards, the bride came. Everyone looked at her and admired her beauty and elegance.
"Wow!" Silver whispered upon seeing his future wife.
Blaze walked through the aisle slowly, her face covered by a veil, a bouquet of flowers in her hands and a diamond tiara on her head. Behind her, Marine and Amy were holding the rest of the veil. Once they had reached the pedestal, Amy let go of the veil and took her seat. She was looking at Silver and Blaze with tears of happiness in her eyes, not realizing that another pair of eyes were looking at her as well.
The moment Sonic saw Amy his attention was immediately centered around the pink hedgehog. She truly looked beautiful. Well, she was always beautiful but now she was even more than usual. Sonic couldn't believe it. He decided to concentrate on the ceremony, instead of the gorgeous girl besides him.
Blaze stood right across Silver, with the priest in-between them. Espio and Marine were also across each other, the boxes with the rings in their hands.
"Hey Silver." the bride whispered to her soon-to-be-husband.
"H-hey." the groom whispered back.
The priest opened a book and started reading from it "Dear family, friends and loved ones, we have gathered here today, under the eyes of Sol, for this happy occasion!"
"This is really happening! " Silver was thinking, his nervousness now replaced with happiness. But little did he know that outside, danger was coming...
Gardon was looking at the ceremony through his binoculars. So far everything was going smoothly. There was no signs of pirates and the wedding was going according to plan. Gardon was even beginning to hope that maybe, just maybe, everything would be-
"INCOMING!"
-and the hope was gone.
The koala could see dozen cannonballs flying towards the palace. It didn't take long for Gardon to realize that those were not cannonballs, but balled up pirates. And that was not all. Other pirates were using grappling hooks to climb the walls of the palace.
The cannonball pirates landed on the rooftops and immediately took fighting positions, swords and guns in hands. Gardon and the other guards also took out their weapons and immediately engaged in a battle with the pirates. But with more and more coming it was clear that they needed help.
"Sir, there's too many of them!" one of the guards yelled while he was dueling with one of the pirates.
"I KNOW!" Gardon yelled back, while also dueling "Hang on! I am calling help!"
Meanwhile, the Captain of the pirates finally arrived at the top, with two of his "men" with him. He started walking tawrds the tower that had the best view to the ceremony, his flintlock gun with him. Two guards tried to stop him, but they were quietly attacked by the Captain's bodyguards.
"You wanted a big wedding, princess," the robot said to himself as he started climbing the tower "You are going to get it!"
Meanwhile, the ceremony was halfway done. The heroes were all looking at the happy couple in front of them.Tangle was taking pictures, Shadow was ready to spring into action at any moment and Knuckles was trying his hardest not to cry, even though he was already in tears.
Belle was also crying at the scene "Look at them!" she whispered to Omega "They look so happy!"
"BLAZE IS PRETENDING!" said the bigger robot, as quietly as possible for him "SHE IS ONLY TRYING TO MAKE ME JEALOUS! AND IT'S WORKING!" his red eyes flashed with a malicious intent.
"Hahah, you are joking, right?" Belle asked Omega, before looking at Rouge one seat away "Right?!"
Rouge just shrugged "With him it's hard to tell."
The bat then heard Shadow mumbling something.
"What!?" the hedgehog whispered, while touching a communicator in his right ear "Okey, I coming!"
Rouge then looked across the hall to Whisper and saw that she was too talking to somebody through a communicator. It didn't take Rouge long to figure out what was going on.
"Wait, Shadow!" the treasure huntress grabbed her partner, who was just getting up, by the left arm "I am coming with you!"
"What!?" the Ultimate lifeform was surprised by his partner's claims.
"You are not going to fight this pirates without me looking after you!" Rouge said firmly.
"Whisper will be with me!"
"But I will feel safer if I do it myself. Besides... I've got a debt to pay." Rouge looked at Blaze upon saying these words.
Shadow understood that there was no point in arguing so he finally said "Fine, let's go!"
"I AM COMING TOO!" Omega said sudenly "I MUST PROTECT MY QUEEN!"
Shadow had no time to argue so he just said "Okey, can we go now?!"
Shadow, Rouge and Omega got up and quietly (as quietly as possible for Omega) made their way to the back of the hall, out of everyone else's sight. Whisper was already waiting for them there.
"Are they coming too?" asked the wolf.
Shadow nodded "Yes, they are. Ready?"
"Wait!" Whisper said sudenly "I have to do something first."
Unlike Rouge, Whisper couldn't fight in a dress. So she tore up her dress up to the knees. The wolf then used one of the torn pieces to tie her hair up in its usual ponytail. Whisper then placed her mask on her face and prepared her wispon.
"Now I am ready!"
Shadow nodded and took out the Chaos emerald.
"Everyone, hold on me!" Shadow ordered and the others did as he said.
"CHAOS CONTROL!" Shadow shouted as he, Rouge, Omega and Whisper disappeared in a flash of green light.
Gardon and the other guards were holding up pretty well for now, but they knew it won't last forever. More and more pirates were coming and it was clear that if the guards don't get a reinforcements soon, they would surely be defeated.
"WHERE ARE THE HEROES WHEN YOU NEED THEM!" the koala shouted while he was fighting one of the pirates. Gardon had a few cuts from the fight already, but he had to keep fighting.
"Right here..."
Sudenly, the pirate was hit by a black and red ball so hard he fell off the rooftop. The ball unfolded to review Shadow.
"...but I am not a hero!"
"What took you so long?" Gardon asked jokingly.
Shadow didn't answer and instead asked "How is the situation?"
"We are holding the pirates as best as we can, but I doubt we would be able to for much longer! I hope you are not the only help we are going to get!"
Gardon didn't know that a pirate was sneaking on him for behind.
Shadow smirked "Don't worry" at that moment the pirate behind Gardon exploded, catching the koala's attention "I am not."
The two then looked at the one responsible for the rocket. It was Whisper. She was on the rooftop of a nearby town. She gave the hedgehog a thumbs up, on which Shadow responded with a nod.
"Now if you will excuse me..." and with that Shadow activated his rocket-skates and skated away from Gardon.
Shadow took down three pirates with chaos spears and two more with fire kicks. Another three came, but were quickly destroyed by Shadow via spinball. He was then surrounded by five pirates, but that didn't worry him. He used one of his skates to create a firey ring around him that effectively dismembered the robots. Only one pirate was still up. Shadow was about to take him down too, but he was "outrun" by Rouge who severed the pirate's head with a kick.
"Hum, that one still counts as mine!" Shadow said to his partner.
"Sorry, handsome, but I finished it so it's mine." Rouge responded.
Shadow sighed "Fine, you can have it. How much by now?"
"Thirteen with this one. You?"
"Same!" Shadow than noticed six pirates heading towards them. He and Rouge exchanged looks and smiled at each other.
"These are mine!" Shadow started running towards them.
"Oh no they are not!" Rouge started flying in the same direction.
Before the hedgehog and the bat could get to the pirates though, the robots were bathed in a rain of bullets.
"NO ONE CAN MATCH ME IN DESTROYING ENEMIES!" the anti-heros turned to the sorce of the bullets. It was, of course, Omega. The big robot had one of his hands turned into a machine-gun, while the others was holding a pirate by the head.
"EVERYTHING THAT STAYS IN MY WAY WILL MEET MY WRATH!" upon saying that Omega crushed the head of the pirate, before turning his other hand into a machine-gun as well.
"DEATH AND DESTRUCTION!" he shouted and started blasting pirates right and left.
"If he keeps going like this he will win the contest!" Rouge said to her partner.
"Then let's up our game!" Shadow said as he and Rouge once again sprung into action.
The members of team Dark were unstoppable. No pirate could get close to them.
"Twenty one!" Shadow said as he kicked the head of another robot.
"Twenty!" Rouge kicked a pirate of the rooftop.
"Twenty three!" Whisper said to Shadow via their communicators.
"TWENTY FOUR!" Omega crushed a pirate under his big foot.
Gardon and the other guards were still fighting, but the presence of team Dark allowed them to regroup and sent the wounded ones to safety. But something caught Gardon's attention. He noticed a pirate on the top of one of the towers and it was apparent that he was holding a gun. Gardon immediately realized what was happening.
"Shadow!" the koala shouted through the communicator "There's a sniper at the tower! Take him out!"
Shadow looked at the tower and noticed the pirate with the gun "Got it!" he responded started skating twards the robot.
Meanwhile the captain of the pirates was finally ready to take the shot. The gun was ready and he had a good view at Blaze's head.
"Till death do us apart, right!" the captain laughed maliciously.
He was ready to take the shot, but just then he felt something coming towards him. He had no time to react before being roundhouse kicked by Shadow.
But the pirate still managed to pull the trigger.
"No!" Shadow whispered, realizing what had just happened.
Back at the wedding, the ceremony was almost over.
"If someone has any objections against this union- let them speak now or forever hold their breath!" The priest said.
As on clue, a bullet broke through the big glass window and went straight at Blaze's head...
...fortunately the last minute kick from Shadow changed the direction of the bullet a little bit. Instead of hitting Blaze's head, it hit the diamond on her tiara. The bullet ricocheted at one of the pillars of the hall and then it almost hit Sonic on it's way to the floor.
"Peaw, that was close!" Sonic swept some sweat from his forehead. He then looked at Blaze "Uuaam Blaze, you okey?"
Blaze was no answering. Instead she was looking at the ground.
"Blaze?" Silver asked as he was reaching to touch her shoulder when suddenly the Sol emeralds appeared and started circling around Blaze. In a flash of light she was transformed into Burning Blaze.
Without any word she stormed out of the hall through the big window and into the ongoing battle.
When she arrives everyone stopped fighting and looked at her. Shadow was still beating up the captain of the pirates when Blaze arrived. The cat turned to the hedgehog and said "Shadow! You, Omega, Rouge and Whisper go back to the hall!"
Shadow nodded and returned to the other members of team Dark. Whisper had just arrived upon hearing the princess's orders. They quickly grabbed Shadow as he yelled "CHAOS CONTROL!" and they disappeared.
Gardon and the other guards used the opportunity to get inside the palace, knowing that whatever was about to happen was not going to be pretty.
The pirate captain got up and looked at Blaze. He smiled and once again pointed his gun at her.
"Coming right in our hands, huh? Not very smart!" He fired the gun, but moments later Blaze caught the bullet with two of her fingers.
"Uh-oh!" it was at this moment that the captain knew- he f* up!
Blaze returned the bullet to the robot, senting it right through his head. The other pirates looked at the princess in horror and rightfully so. Flames started appearing around Blaze.
"This. Is. My. Wedding!" the cat said mightily as her whole body was consumed by flames "And. I. will not. let you. RUIN IT!"
She then started circling around, eventually creating a fire tornado that started sucking in all of the pirates. They tried running away, but to most of them it was pointless. One of the pirates even tried to jump from the roof, but it was too late. He was already caught by the tornado.
In the great hall everyone was watching the spectacular scene.
Rouge was watching with wide eyes "Remind me to never steal from her again!" she mumbled to Shadow.
Silver and Omega were both looking at Blaze as if in trance "I love THAT woman!" the whispered in unison.
Tangle and the other photographers were taking pictures like crazy and the camera crew was making sure to broadcast every minute of the spectacle.
Finally, Blaze released all the fire surrounding her, scattering robotic parts all around the palace. She then flew back in the hall and returned to her normal state.
Everyone was surprised by how good she looked. Her hair, her makeup, her dress. She looked like she hadn't been in a tornado up until now.
"So," She said calmly "shall we finish the ceremony?"
After everyone was back at their seats, the ceremony continued as if nothing had happened. The priest once again said "If anyone has any objections against this union- let them speak now or forever hold their breath!"
And this time nothing happened.
"In that case may I have you vows!"
Silver smiled and stared "Blaze, I spent so much time trying to save the future. I was sure that nothing would ever replace that mission in my heart. Until I met you." he grabbed Blaze's hands and looked her directly in the eyes "You made me realize that the only future I'll ever have is with you. And that's what I promise to you: the future I am ready to share with you until death do us part!"
It was Blaze's turn now. She wiped the tears that were forming from her eyes and stared.
"Silver, you've been in my life for so long I can barely remember the time without you. You help me relax, feel good and you make me smile every day. I will be more than happy to spend the rest of my life with you, Silver, until death do us part!"
With both the groom and the bride done the priest once again spoke "Now, the rings!"
Espio handed Silver the ring he was holding and Marine handed the ring she was holding to Blaze. Silver put the ring on his bride and Blaze did same for her groom.
The prist smiled widely "By the power given to me be by Sol, I now pronounce you husband and wife!...You my kiss the bride!"
Silver and Blaze didn't need to be told twice. Their lips immediately locked in a kiss sweeter than any before it.
The crowd exploded in cheers and applause. Knuckles, Belle, Jewel and Vanilla were in tears. Rouge was getting a little teary-eyed while Shadow had a proud smile on his face. Tangle was trying to catch every moment on the kiss. The other heroes had happy smile on their faces while they were clapping.
But nobody was happier than Silver and Blaze. They broke the kiss and Silver whispered "I love you so much, Blaze!"
Blaze responded with "And I love you just as much, Silver!"
The ceremony was done, but the wedding wasn't. There were still the dinner and the party. And while the ceremony had gone relatively smoothly, nobody knew if the evening would be the same...
