There's a lot for us to cover in this chapter that not only closes out Season 3, but also marks the milestone of the 100th chapter for this story! We're going to be going through things in regards to the villains, heroes, and everything in between. And we'll sprinkle in a bit of romance to spice it up, too!
So let's not delay this any longer! Welcome to the 100th chapter of "Through the Rough"!
THROUGH THE ROUGH
"You know, I never expected to have to be working alongside the likes of Rogue Out," a voice admitted within a small room. Kris was standing off to the side alongside Ganoff and Mosco, watching a discussion unfold before them. Seated on one side was a pale young man of narrow build with short, shaggy auburn hair, parted to the right. His eyes were thin, their irises small and gold, with rather long lower eyelashes and small eyebrows.
He wore a black dress shirt with matching dress pants, a pale gray tie around his neck and a belt with a long, thin buckle around his waist, with three beaded lobe piercings in his left ear. Over this, he donned a dark olive-green bomber jacket with a thick purple fur collar and white lace-up sneakers with tan soles and no socks. The white surgical gloves he wore on his hands and the magenta plague mask he had on over his mouth, which was tipped and embroidered with gold, were his most distinguishing features.
"I'm sure you've taken into account that we're looking take hold on the power vacuum left behind in All For One's wake," he noted to the person across from him. She was a curvaceous woman, dressed in a nun's habit with a large headdress.
"So is anyone these days," she responded with a chuckle, "The members of the Oracion Seis are slowly starting crawl out of the woodwork themselves thanks in part to Drakken's capture," she pointed out, "I'm certain you've also taken into account that Tomura Shigaraki is considered his replacement of the Seis," she mentioned. Kris blinked in surprise upon hearing that.
"So that bastard's gotten pretty famous, huh?" Ganoff noted quietly.
"Funny you should mention him…" the masked man said, "I just recently met with one of his associates," he recalled, causing the woman across from him to narrow her eyes with curiosity, "He's coming to pick me up and bring me to Shigaraki," he added, "Perhaps we'll form a temporary alliance… or it could be the start of war between us," he suggested, shrugging a little, "Either way…" he continued.
"You need us for added leverage," the nun-like woman finished for him. He nodded.
"The Hassaikai aren't exactly as powerful as they once were," he pointed out, leaning forward in his seat, "That's why I'd appreciate the help of people willing to put in the work, like yourselves," he mentioned.
"Hm," the woman across from him hummed curiously, "I suppose we can come to an agreement… Overhaul," she concurred, standing up and holding her right hand out to him. Moments later, the group of mercenaries walked down the long hallways alongside their leader.
"So what, we're on call now?" Ganoff asked of the nun-like woman.
"Patience, Ganoff," she responded, "Overhaul will request our assistance when he needs it," she affirmed.
"Moscoy!" Mosco squeaked in agreement, causing the heteromorph to scoff. Meanwhile, Kris looked around curiously. He then picked up the sound of sniffling and whimpering, causing him to stop. Looking around, he could hear it coming from a door nearby. However, his arm was grabbed by his leader, getting his attention.
"What seems to be the matter, Jinn?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.
"N-Nothing, Sister…" he replied with a stutter, looking away. The mercenary group leader narrowed her eyes with suspicion.
"You know what I just realized?" she said, causing her colleague to blink in surprise, "You used to be part of the League of Villains, didn't you?" she guessed, "Perhaps we can have you accompany Overhaul when he meets Shigaraki as a show of good faith," she suggested.
"I…I don't…"
"Yeah, that sounds like a good enough plan," Ganoff agreed, "At the very least, there won't be a bloodbath," he mentioned on, causing the Wind Rage Quirk user to tense up.
"We'll make those arrangements later," Sister assured, "For now, let's see to our own objectives," she insisted of the group members, who all nodded. Kris stayed back for a moment, exhaling a sigh. He didn't want to return to this life. But he had no choice with what he had already done.
Meanwhile, the door he had taken notice of led into a dark bedroom. Inside, hiding under the covers of the bed was a small girl with bluish, off-white hair, messy and unkempt, which was parted in the middle of her forehead, almost reaching down to her waist. She had very wide, innocent-looking eyes, which were bright red in color. Poking out from the right side of her forehead was a small, brown horn.
She was wearing a plain, short-sleeved dress, which is a dirty, pale tan color. Bandages were wrapped around both her arms and legs, stopping at her wrists and ankles. She trembled upon hearing the footsteps nearing her room, shutting her eyes as they welled up with tears. But then, they grew quiet.
"No one is coming, Eri," a female, robotic voice assured, getting her attention as she threw off the covers. At her bedside was a small robot, having a pink helmet that seemed to resemble a bob-cut hairstyle with an upside-down triangle symbol with a stylized 'P' in front of it. She had a small set of eyebrows and had eyeliner with little blush on her cheeks. Additionally, she had a pair of antennae resembling rabbit ears and had multiple joints along her arms and legs. Her attire consisted of a small blue and green dress with a white collar, a pair of small fairy-like wings from behind, and a pair of shoes.
"Are you sure…?" the little girl asked quietly, causing the small robot to simply nod, "Were they talking about me?" she questioned on.
"No," the robot answered, shaking her head, "You are safe," she affirmed. Eri trembled, sniffling as she wiped her eyes.
"There's more people coming…" she pointed out, "How are we going to ever run away?" she wondered aloud.
"I predict that there will be a time when we can make a successful escape attempt, especially when Overhaul is no longer present," the little robot assured. However, the little girl still seemed frightened. "I understand your concern, Eri," the android noted, climbing up onto the bed, "But I promise, I will make sure you can escape this place as soon as possible," she vowed. The horned girl sniffled, reaching over to hug the little robot.
"Thank you, Pino…" she said in gratitude, still trembling. The android hugged her back. In spite of being caged, they weren't about to give up the hope of attaining freedom.
OPENING
Insert "New Genesis" by Ado
Opens with Rebecca dressed in her hero costume, with her hair now in pigtails as she looks toward the dawning sky. The wind waves through her hair before she looks back and smiles to see the rest of Class 1-A, with her boyfriend standing at the front as he smiles. The title logo comes on screen.
As the music picks up, we get shots of each member of Class 1-A in training, thinking about their battles in the U.S.J., the Sports Festival, the hero killer attack in Hosu, the Müller raid in Shibuya, the final exams of the first semester, the forest training camp attack, and the incident in Camino. Everyone's motivating each other as they prepare to enter the next phase in order to become heroes. They all stand outside an exam center together, having determined looks on their faces.
There are several scenes of Homura drawing her energy blades to block off rubber balls being sent towards her, Denki, and Momo, Minoru unleashing a barrage of his sticky balls to trap opponents, and Fumikage releasing Dark Shadow as it covers him like armor. We see Weisz equip his Arsenal armor as he speeds past everyone alongside Tenya and Izuku. However, they're brought to a halt as the wind picks up around them.
They look to see that it's courtesy of Inasa Yoarashi, whose grin is wide until he spots Shoto through the crowd, making him glare with contempt. Other Shiketsu students are on the scene, including the likes of Milani Lucra, Nasseh Saimin, Lyra Dekki, and Callum Steelford. There's also students from Ketsubutsu Academy, which also includes the likes of Orc, Mora, and Britney.
We watch as Rebecca finds herself forced into battle against Britney, running around from her smoky form while using her new pulse blasters to try and throw her off. Orc confronts Izuku, while Mora locates Katsuki. The three U.A. students fight on with all their effort.
Meanwhile, Shiki has his green markings expand as he flies across a ruined battlefield to confront Gang Orca, who blows him back with a sonic blast. Ochaco catches him in midair, followed by Kyoka plugging her earphone jacks into her amps to unleash a soundwave that tears through the ground. Mashirao and Tsuyu join in the fray, taking care of Orca's minions in the exercise.
During his ordeals, Katsuki starts thinking about what had happened with All Might back in Camino. He looks toward Izuku, who is running beside him, and then at Rebecca. He brushes his thoughts off for the moment, continuing onward.
We get a shot of Nero in his office with Ijuna, the League of Villains hiding out in a warehouse, Overhaul and the Shie Hassaikai looking over a car fire, Kris finding the likes of Rogue Out, and Laguna meeting with the imposing figure of Goodwin. The song winds down as Rebecca brushes her back and smiles toward the horizon with her boyfriend. Their classmates all stand behind them, ready to become heroes.
END OPENING
"Guh…" Rebecca groaned out, slumping on the couch alongside her female classmates as they had returned to the dorm's common area.
"You're really tuckered out, huh?" Tsuyu noted, putting a finger onto her cheek.
"I suppose it's a result of both her efforts against Togata and Recovery Girl's healing…" Homura inferred.
"Along with those cracks…" Kyoka added, "What even was that anyway?" she inquired curiously. The Cat Leaper Quirk user sat upright.
"It's a side effect of me overusing my Quirk," she answered, "Basically, my power lets me travel back in time about a minute or so," she told her classmates, who all widened their eyes, "But the more I use it, the more damage it causes to myself," she explained on, "So it's kind of a double-edged sword…" she noted, putting her hand onto her chin.
"Could… you always do that?" Ochaco wondered aloud, blinking rapidly in shock.
"Not at first…" Rebecca responded, shaking her head, "It was more of me having super speed if anything…" she pointed out.
"Still, your efforts against Togata today were definitely admirable," Momo chimed in.
"Yeah, you were super awesome out there!" Toru complimented, "Using that reversing thing helped you pick up on his moves and learn how to dodge them on the fly!" she mentioned.
"Yeah…" Rebecca replied, looking down in thought for a moment.
"I think that could work as a good strategy for you in the future," the Creation Quirk user suggested.
"What do you mean, Yaomomo?" Toru asked curiously.
"By using that technique, she picks up on her opponent's strategy and moves before they're enacted," the class deputy explained in response, "Obviously, it's not perfect, and Bluegarden is susceptible to damage like she said…" she continued, "but over time, I think it could be something that helps you learn to predict a villain's next move," she told the Cat Leaper Quirk user.
"That does sound cool…" she admitted in response, "Still, I think I need more experience before I can really start thinking about predictions…" she confessed to the group.
"Well, that didn't stop you from showing off today," Mina commented, getting her attention, "By the way, how the heck did you hang in there so long?" she questioned curiously.
"Huh?" Rebecca uttered in confusion.
"I mean… Togata was pretty much untouchable and not to mention…" the Acid Quirk user continued with the heat in her cheeks rising.
"His dick was out," Kyoka bluntly noted, causing every girl's face to flush red.
"Well, uh… I just wasn't thinking about it…" the Cat Leaper Quirk user said, looking off to the side nervously. Mina snickered.
"Or maybe you already had someone else's thing for reference on mind?" she guessed, causing Rebecca's face to explode into a bright red blush.
"M-M-M-M-MINA!" she stammered out, earning a laugh from her classmate as the others chastised her, "Huh…" she sighed. At that moment, she felt a buzz in her pocket. She reached into her skirt, pulling out her phone and checking the new notification.
Izu: Hey, can you come up here for a bit?
It's about the work studies
Seeing the messages, Rebecca was a little surprised. She pocketed her phone and stood up from her seat.
"Sorry, ladies," she apologized, "I need to go check in on Izu for something about the work studies," she told them, heading off.
"Maybe that isn't the only thing…" Mina cheekily suggested, earning herself an elbowing from Kyoka, "Ow!" she yelped, rubbing her hurting arm. The elevator dinged as the Cat Leaper Quirk user arrived on the second floor, heading over to her boyfriend's room. She opened the door, seeing him seated on the couch with his phone in hand.
"Oh, she's here!" he confirmed to her confusion, only to realize that he had been on the phone with someone.
"Bluegarden, right?" Gran Torino's voice echoed from the device in Izuku's hand, "You're the other kid who knows about One For All, aren't you?" he inquired on.
"Um, yeah…" the Cat Leaper Quirk user responded, going over to sit down on the bed beside her boyfriend, "What's going on?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"I called Gran Torino if he was offering anything in regards to the work studies," Izuku replied, "but he said he was too busy for me," he pointed out.
"And being the useless successor he is, he doesn't have any other offers from pros that do the work study program," the elderly hero noted on, causing the One For All inheritor to flinch.
"Hey!" Rebecca shouted, only to blink in realization, "Wait, what about the IUA?" she inquired curiously, "Wouldn't they be offering work study opportunities?" she questioned on.
"Unfortunately, that isn't the case this time around…" another familiar voice chimed in from the phone, causing the couple to blink in surprise.
"Miss Holy?" Izuku said.
"It's good to hear your voice, Izuku," the I.U.A. Hero pointed out with a giggle, "As to Rebecca's question, the IUA has changed their focus in the wake of All Might's retirement, along with the arrests of All For One and Drakken Joe," she told them.
"Not to mention Jaga's death…" Gran Torino added, causing Rebecca to grimace a little, "Anyhow, the IUA's focused on taking care of the others in the Oracion Seis," he explained to the two students.
"I'm actually with Sorahiko on the matter," Holy mentioned, "By the way Rebecca, I'm surprised to know that you're a part of the group that knows Izuku and All Might's secret," she pointed out in admittance.
"W-Wait, what?" the Cat Leaper Quirk user stammered out. Her boyfriend put his hand over the phone.
"She put the pieces together like Kacchan did…" he whispered to her.
"Oh…" she uttered in realization.
"Now you kids are doing work studies, right?" Gran Torino asked, changing the subject, "Since you're both close with All Might, he can help you network to other heroes he knows," he pointed out, "First one that came to mind for me for both of you was his former sidekick," he told them.
"All Might… had a sidekick?" Rebecca repeated out of surprise, causing Izuku to gawk at her in shock.
"Not surprised you don't know him," the elderly hero remarked, "He was more of an office man than someone working on the streets," he noted, "Still, I think he's a perfect fit for both of you," he affirmed on, "The useless successor needs to find someone who's best suited to giving him guidance," he kept going as Izuku flinched again, "and his Quirk might interest you, Bluegarden," he pointed out, making the Cat Leaper Quirk user blink in surprise.
"Wait, his Quirk?" she said, very confused.
"Sorahiko, we need to go," Holy noted over the line.
"Listen, kids," Gran Torino began, "you can have All Might fill you in on the details, but what you do is up to you," he affirmed to the couple, "I'll catch you around," he promised, ending the call. There was a brief silence in the room for a moment.
"So… All Might's sidekick…" Rebecca uttered.
"If you're not comfortable with it…" Izuku started to say.
"N-No!" his girlfriend stammered out, waving her arms in a placating manner, "I'm totally down to do a work study for someone like that," she affirmed with clenched fists, "I guess it's just… well…" she continued, blushing a little, "this would be the first time we're working together as an actual couple…" she noted. Now it was her boyfriend's turn to blush.
"R-Right…" he confirmed with a stutter, "It's… gonna be a little weird…" he admitted, looking away. His girlfriend put her right hand onto his left.
"But we'll get through it together," she declared with a warm smile. Izuku felt his face scrunch up a little at her brightness, causing her to giggle.
"Thanks, Rebecca," he said gratefully, "I love you," he affirmed. The Cat Leaper Quirk user giggled.
"Love you, too," she responded, leaning in and closing her eyes to kiss him warmly. Their future now was filled with uncertainty. But they would be facing it together.
ENDING
Insert "Backlight" by Ado
Opens with Class 1-A's girls hanging out in the common room of their Heights Alliance building. Rebecca finds herself totally bored until she realizes something, running off. She returns a moment later with her Switch in hand, along with four controllers. She, Homura, Tsuyu and Ochaco are the first ones to start playing, though the Soul Blade Quirk user is initially holding her controller upside down.
They play a racing game to start things off, with the scene changing to show chibi forms of the girls driving in their karts. Homura slips on a banana peel and spins out, while Tsuyu gets hit by a green shell. Ochaco and Rebecca are neck-and-neck as they approach the finish line, and the Zero Gravity Quirk user wins by a hair.
After a brief celebration, the girls switch to a dancing game, where Mina, Toru, Kyoka and Momo compete. We again shift to a fantasy where the girls are dressed like dancers on a stage. Everyone's surprised by how good of a dancer the Acid Quirk user is, cheering her on excitedly. As the games continue, the boys enter the common area to find them playing.
Next up is a multiplayer first-person shooter that Rebecca, Weisz, Izuku, and Shoto start playing. We see that in the fantasy sequence, the Cat Leaper Quirk user has the best shot amongst her peers, even beating out Weisz. Afterwards, Hanta brings down four more controllers so that more people can play.
And so, it comes down to a fighter game, in which Izuku, Katsuki, Eijiro, Tenya, Homura, Momo, Shoto and Shiki play. Not knowing the controls, Tenya's character can only move like a robot before getting knocked off by Katsuki. Eijiro withstands Homura's blows until she's tired out, landing a finishing punch. Momo is hesitant to battle against Shiki, so she just falls off the edge of the stage as everyone looks to her in confusion in reality.
Katsuki's character bests Shiki, while Izuku manages to defeat Eijiro. The two face off against each other, exchanging blows before ultimately, Izuku wins. The class cheers excitedly, while Katsuki scoffs, though isn't as annoyed over losing.
The rest of the day continues with Denki and Hanta playing a golfing game, Minoru and Tsuyu facing off in a MOBA to everyone's surprise, Mezo and Koji enjoying a relaxing simulation game, and Yuga trying to sing in a karaoke game, only to make everyone flinch from the sound of his falsetto. As Shota and All Might wander in to check on the class, they smile to see Rebecca and Kyoka playing together as a team in a two-person fighter. They imagine themselves in their hero costumes, fighting against a villain as they charge in…

And that concludes what has been an amazing Season 3 to work on! This adaptation has been such a trip up to this point. By the time I get to working on Season 4, I know we'll be getting into some really good stuff. I have a lot of ideas that'll be leading to something massive.
Speaking of which, I think it's time to get into the trailer for the next season! Do note, I'll be taking a break for a couple of weeks, just to prep the introductory chapters for Season 4 and to get some more information from both My Hero Academia and Edens Zero. Saintfire Nox: The Church of Saintfire only has one goal! To restore humanity to its former selves, as Quirks have caused far more harm than good!
She speaks to her followers inside of the church, including one man with a mask over his eyes and mouth, and a woman with long black hair.
Saintfire Nox: Be it heroes or villains, we shall prevent anyone from hindering our objectives! *raises staff* The time has come for us to seek out the Leaper who will bring about this grand change!
Followers: All hail Nox! All hail Nox!
Cuts to a scene of Izuku and Rebecca standing outside of Sir Nighteye's agency alongside Mirio, looking to do their work studies under him.
Mirio Togata: Sir's pretty strict, but I'm sure he'll come to like you.
The scene changes to Izuku trying to get a stamp from Nighteye, only for his movements to be predicted and dodged by his foe.
Sir Nighteye: I don't consider you worthy. Either of you.
Cuts to Rebecca being led into a room, where Xiaomei is seated in an intricate chair. She smirks at the Cat Leaper Quirk user.
Xiaomei: It's nice to finally meet you, Rebecca Bluegarden.
The scene then shifts to Eijiro and Weisz working with Tamaki and Fat Gum, Tsuyu, Ochaco and Kleene being with Nejire and Ryukyu for their work study. We get shots of the Rogue Out group with Kris, the Shie Hassaikai with Overhaul, Eri, and Pino, and finally, an image of the current roster of the League of Villains.
Tomura Shigaraki: So… what happens now?
