When Tayuya first met Temari, around two, maybe three years back, Tayuya remembers a scowling blonde-haired brat, covered in sand and dirt from where she'd been toy-fighting with some of the boys from the village.

She remembers being intrigued by the Sand girl. She'd never met a girl like Temari before, never met a girl who preferred toy-fighting to applying make-up, or styling hair. Temari reminded Tayuya of herself.

Temari remembers a brash, foul-mouthed girl with bright pink hair, shouting at one of the local Sand boys. The boy was shaking in his boots, eyes wide with fear as he merel stared at the raging girl.

Temari remembers being highly impressed, and suddenly found herself wanting to be like Tayuya when she grew up, wanting to be able to put fear in other boys like her, wanting to be able to control boys like her.

When Temari next met Tayuya, they were on opposing sides. Temari hesitated, wanting so much to persuade Tayuya to join her, not fight against her. Then she remembered Tayuya's spirit. Asking Tayuya to join her would be like asking the pink haired Sound kunoichi to concede defeat, and defeat was not a word in Tayuya's vocabulary.

Temari regretted having to fight the other girl, but knew what she had to do, and tried to make it as quick and painless as possible.

When Tayuya next met Temari, they were on opposing sides. Tayuya remembers a bitter, angry feeling inside, feeling almost like she had been…betrayed by the other girl.

And this time, it was Tayuya who was impressed by Temari, by the other girl's strength and skill.

She remembers a distant sound, and doesn't have time to wonder whether or not it's an attack before she is engulfed. And as her dying body breathes out it's last breath, she feels somewhat glad that it is Temari who killed her, and nobody else.
