Inside Syndrome's prison chamber, Mrs. Incredible, Elastiguy, Ash, and V were held captive in immobi-rays, side by side. On a giant screen in front of them, a newscast showed a crowd gathered around a large smoldering craft at the base of a building. The Omnidroid had landed in the city. They had no choice but to watch.
"Huh?" Syndrome said, seeing their reaction to the destruction of Metroville. "Oh, come on, you gotta admit this is cool! Just like a movie! The robot will emerge dramatically, do some damage, throngs of screaming people, and just when all hope is lost, Syndrome will save the day. I'll be a bigger hero than you ever were!"
"You killed of real heroes so that you could pretend to be one?" Mrs. Incredible asked her, revolted.
"Oh, I'm real enough to defeat you!" Syndrome said cynically. "And I did it without your precious gifts. Your oh-so-special powers." She continued excitedly, "I'll give them heroics. I'll give them the most spectacular heroics the world has ever see." Syndrome cackled darkly. "And when I'm old, I'll sell my inventions so that everyone can be Super. And when everyone's Super, no one will be."
She exited in triumph as Bobbie hung her head. "I'm sorry," she said to the family. Harlan and the kids looked up.
"This is my fault," Bobbie said. "I've been a lousy mother. Blind… to what I have."
As Bobbie spoke, she didn't notice V moving. He was suspended in his own force field and no longer in the immobi-rays. He began to roll toward the control panel. "So obsessed with being undervalued that I undervalued all of you," Bobbie continued, lost in his own confession.
"Mom," Ash said, trying to draw her attention to her brother.
"Shhh! Don't interrupt," Harlan said, eager to hear what else his wife had to say.
"So caught up in the past that I… I… You are my greatest adventure. And I almost missed it," Bobbie said as V dissipated the force field around him. "I swear I'm gonna get us out of this safely."
V suddenly spoke as he placed his hand on the control panel. "Well, I think Mom has made excellent progress today… but I think it's time we wind down now." Bobbie looked at his son, stunned.
V threw a switch and the beam flickered off, dropping Bobbie, Harlan, and Ash to the floor. V had saved the family!
The parents and children raced through an empty corridor. "We need to get back to the mainland," Bobbie said.
"I saw an aircraft hangar on my way in," Harlan said. "Straight ahead, I think."
They came to the hangar door and Bobbie quickly pried it open, expecting swarms of guards on the other side. But no one was to be found.
"Where are all the guards?" she asked aloud.
Then she heard cheers from inside a mobile command vehicle parked in the hangar bay. The guards were inside, watching the Omnidroid attack the city on the news and celebrating.
Bobbie entered the vehicle alone. The door closed behind her. When she came out, all of the guards had been knocked out. She whistled to the family who were hiding behind the vehicle.
"This is the right hangar," Harlan said, "but I don't see any jets."
"A jet's not fast enough," Bobbie said, knowing Syndrome had a good head start.
"How about a rocket?" Ash suggested, pointing to a rocket in the launching bay.
"Oh, great," Harlan said, considering it. "I can't fly a rocket."
"You don't have to," V told him. "Just use the coordinates from the last launch."
Bobbie and Harlan looked at each other, beaming over their clever son.
"I'll bet Syndrome's changed the password by now," Bobbie said suddenly. "How do I get into the computer?"
A man's voice came over the loudspeaker. "Say please." She looked up. It was Specter. He stood at the monitoring station, smiling.
