Kyle descended the stairs, to find Jack and Traci in the living room.
"Kyle," Traci smiled.
"Aunt Traci, nice to see you," Kyle said, returning the smile.
"What's happened to Summer?" Jack said.
"She had a lunch meeting with her mother," Kyle said.
Noticing Kyle sit down on the couch with a sigh, Jack said, "Is everything okay?"
"It's been a trying morning," Kyle said, "By the way, the household has grown by one more. Diana is staying with me for awhile. I just put her for a nap upstairs."
"Not that I mind," Jack said, "But why the change?"
"Rachel is not in a good place right now," Kyle said, "Our break-up is hitting her harder than I ever thought it would."
"Yes, I heard about the separation," Traci said, "I'm very sorry things did not work out as you hoped."
"Thanks," Kyle said, "I tried to explain to Rachel, it's not that I don't love her anymore, because I do. Does it make me a bad person, because my heart is with Summer?"
"No, it doesn't" Jack said, "You can't stay in a relationship, when your heart is not fully invested."
"Are you disappointed in me?" Kyle said, looking at Traci, "That I couldn't keep my marriage together?"
"Of course not," Traci said, "Couples separate for all kinds of reasons. I just want you to be happy."
"Summer makes me very happy," Kyle said, "But in order for that to happen, I made my wife miserable." Sighing, Kyle corrected himself, "Soon to be ex-wife."
"I know, these things are never easy," Jack said.
"I am confident that I can move on," Kyle said, "But Rachel, she is so distraught that she can't take care of our daughter. She is depressed and I am afraid she is on a destructive path. I would like to help pull her out of this, but I don't know what I can do."
"Time can be a great healer," Traci said.
"I don't know," Kyle said, "The more time that goes by, the worse off she seems to be."
"Maybe I can talk to her," Traci said, "Give her some perspective."
"You're welcome to try," Kyle said, "When I left this morning, Billy was with her."
"If you will excuse me, I have some work to attend to," Jack said.
Observing his father's informal attire, Kyle said, "Is it casual Friday at work?"
"I thought I would work from home today," Jack said.
"I have some things to take care of a the office," Kyle said, "But I have someone upstairs who will need me."
"I am on it," Traci said, "Don't worry, I can take care of her for you."
"Are you sure?" Kyle said, "I feel like we have been taking advantage of your baby sitting services, since Diana was born."
"I am thrilled to have a baby in my life again," Traci said, "I adore Diana, she's so sweet. It would be my pleasure to look after her, any time you need."
"Thank you," Kyle said.
"I am happy to help out too," Jack said.
"You two are the best," Kyle said.
"He's finally realized it," Jack said, as Kyle half laughed at him.
Sitting on Rachel's couch Billy sent a quick text message to Lily. "Still at Rachel's, don't feel right leaving her alone. Will come home when reinforcements are here. Be there soon as I can."
After a few seconds, Lily responded with a text to Billy. "Take your time. She needs a friend like you right now. Love you."
Smiling Billy texted, "Love you."
Hearing a knock on the door, Billy glanced upstairs as he jogged to open the door. "I got here as soon as I could," Chloe said. Billy stepped aside to allow her to enter, as she continued, "I am glad you called me."
"I think Rachel needs her best friend right now," Billy said, "I've been with her most of the day."
"Where is she now?" Chloe said.
"She's napping off a hangover," Billy said.
"She's been drinking?" Chloe said, "What about the baby? Is that why you're here?"
"No," Billy said.
"Then tell me what's going on," Chloe said.
"Rachel is going down a dark path," Billy said, "She has gone from heartbreak, to depression and she's continuing to spiral. I came over to offer my support and found her in a heated confrontation with Kyle."
"Oh no, what happened this time?" Chloe said.
"Rachel decided to mask her pain by drinking," Billy said, "She had so much she passed out."
"Was Diana here?" Chloe said
"She was," Billy said, "The baby is fine, but when Kyle came over, she was crying in her crib and Rachel was out for the count. In short Kyle decided it was best if he became the baby's primary parent and he removed her from Rachel's care. When I got here she protested and became nearly hysterical, when Kyle was leaving."
"So her heartbreak has now doubled," Chloe said, "I could strangle Kyle for doing this to her."
"I'm not too impressed with him myself," Billy said.
"Poor Rachel," Chloe said, "I wish I knew what to do for her."
"I couldn't believe what I witnessed," Billy said, "I haven't seen Rachel act this way since..."
"Since her incident with you and Victoria," Chloe said.
"Yeah," Billy sighed.
"You don't think she's fallen back into that mindset," Chloe said.
"I sincerely hope not," Billy said, "But it was my rejection that set her off the last time. Now Kyle has rejected her."
"I don't think she could handle it, if she was sent back to Fairview," Chloe said.
"I would hate to see that happen," Billy said, "But she needs some professional help."
"Did you have anything in mind?" Chloe said.
"What if we convince her to talk to someone who is familiar to her, a friend even," Billy started, "But is also trained to help people with emotional trauma."
"Are you talking about Sharon?" Chloe said.
"Sharon can treat her privately and hopefully be that stepping stone to help Rachel get her life back on track," Billy said.
"It's a good idea," Chloe said, "Do you think Sharon would agree to help?"
"I don't see why not," Billy said, "It doesn't hurt to ask. In fact I can go talk to Sharon right now. Are you able to stay with Rachel?"
"Billy?" Rachel said, descending the stairs.
"Hi," Billy said, "How are you feeling?"
"Better," Rachel said.
"Chloe stopped by to see you," Billy said.
"I thought we needed some girl time," Chloe smiled.
"Sounds good," Rachel said, "Billy, did I hear you say you were leaving?"
"Yes, but I will check in on you later," Billy said.
"You don't have to," Rachel said.
"I want to," Billy said.
"Before you go," Rachel said, "I want to apologize for what happened earlier. I know I behaved badly and I'm sorry, I subjected you to that."
"You don't have to apologize," Billy said, "Your emotions were running high."
"At the same time, I really appreciate you being here for me when I needed you," Rachel said, "I don't what I would have done if you weren't here."
"I am always here for you," Billy said, "Don't forget that." Billy gave Rachel a tender kiss on the forehead. Rachel responded with a small smile.
Affixing his signature to paperwork, Kyle scanned his desk for another document he needed. Not locating it, he grabbed his briefcase and began rifling through the contents. Amid his search Kyle found another item, that gave him pause. He stared down at it, before lifting the book out and holding it between both hands. Looking over the title, 'All About Kyle,' he recalled how Rachel have gifted him the book on their first wedding anniversary.
"What have we got here?" Kyle said, rummaging through a bag of tissue paper. Locating the object inside, he pulled out and said, "A book." He laughed as he read the title on the front cover aloud. "All about Kyle?"
"It's a book of poems, pictures and personal messages, stating all of the reasons I love you," Rachel said.
"Aw, that's sweet," Kyle said, "It's going to be fun going through this. Thank you."
"Look inside the front cover," Rachel said.
Kyle opened the book and read, "To Kyle, the love of my life, my husband and my everything. All my love forever, Rachel."
"You're my everything too," Kyle said, "Forever."
"And ever," Rachel said, as he kissed her.
Reading the inscription over in the present, Kyle closed his eyes and sighed. Flipping the page he read a poem Rachel had written for him.
'Roses are red, violets are blue
I know this is corny, but Kyle I love you.' Kyle softly laughed, before continuing to read.
'You make me happy, you make me smile
You have given me feelings, I've not had in awhile
From the beginning you stole my heart
I was so excited for our life together to start
The way you hold me, your tenderness too
I can't say it enough, I truly love you.'
On the opposite page he found their engagement photo. Gazing at their image, Kyle remembered how much fun they had that day.
"Kyle?" The sound of Summer's voice brought Kyle back to reality, as he snapped the book shut.
"What are you doing?" Summer said.
"Just finishing up some paperwork," Kyle said.
"And what's that, which you don't want me to see?" Summer said.
"Hmm?" Kyle said.
"That book, you closed it quickly when I came in," Summer said, "Is that a present for me?"
"Uh, no," Kyle said. Handing it to her, he said, "Rachel gave this to me on our first anniversary. I just found it in my briefcase. I forgot it was there, or maybe she put in in there for me to find."
Summer opened the book and read over the inscription, before handing it back to Kyle. "It's a sweet gift. No doubt she loved you."
"Yeah," Kyle sighed, "We had something special."
"Are you okay?" Summer said.
Shaking his head, Kyle said, "Every time I think about her, I feel so bad at what I've done to her."
"Are you going to stop tormenting yourself about this?" Summer said.
"I can't get the look in her eyes out of my head," Kyle said, "She's hurt and so sad. I'm the one, who set this all in motion. I never wanted to hurt her, but I ended up doing that. I walked out and devastated, this wonderful woman. What kind of a person does that make me?"
"I know you're sorry you hurt her," Summer said, "But Kyle, I have to ask. You're talking like you miss your wife. Do you regret ending your marriage? Do you really want to be with me?"
"How can you ask me that?" Kyle said.
"Because since we have been together, you spend half your time talking about Rachel," Summer said.
"You're right," Kyle said, "I'm sorry. I never meant to make you feel ignored. I want to be with you. You have to know how much I love you."
"I know you do," Summer said, "I love you just as much and I'm going to prove it."
"How's that?" Kyle said, taking Summer in his arms.
"I'm taking you out to dinner at Society," Summer said.
Nodding, Kyle said, "First things first." He pulled her into a kiss. Merging into a hug, Kyle lost his smile, as his eyes drifted to the book, on his desk.
"Chloe, I like seeing you, but you don't have to babysit me," Rachel said.
"I think it's high time we have a girls chat," Chloe said, "I know you've been going through a rough time, so as your best friend, I am here to take your mind off your troubles."
Rachel paused and glanced upstairs, before saying, "I keep listening for Diana, expecting to hear her start crying and then I remember she's not here."
"You are going to see her again," Chloe said.
"Am I?" Rachel said.
"Of course, Kyle can't keep the two of you separated forever," Chloe said, "You will be able to visit her soon."
"How did this happen to me?" Rachel said, "How did I lose my family?"
"Some things in life are difficult to answer," Chloe said, "But I know, what we need to do. You are going to get cleaned up and we are going out to dinner at Society."
"Chloe, I don't know," Rachel said.
"I am not taking no for answer," Chloe said, "It will do you good to get a change of scenery. To be out, for good food and great conversation, with yours truly."
"I don't feel like going out," Rachel said.
"You need this," Chloe said, "So go, get changed and dab some make up on. This will help you feel better." Chloe smiled at her.
"Alright," Rachel sighed with a half smile, "I'll be right back."
"Good," Chloe said. As Rachel, walked up the stairs Chloe exhaled in relief.
"I'm so sorry, I'm late," Billy said, kissing Lily's cheek, before taking a seat across from her, at Society.
"You're not that late," Lily said, "The important thing is you are here now."
"I am," Billy smiled, "This is what I needed. Good food and of course the sight of you, warms my heart."
"You're in a mood," Lily said, "Not that I mind the compliments."
"Then be prepared for them to keep coming," Billy said.
"Not to spoil the mood," Lily said, "But how did it go today?"
"It was exhausting and heartbreaking for me, to see how much Rachel has slipped into this depressive state. I really hope she can come back from this."
"That is sad to hear," Lily said, "I know she is your friend."
"That she is," Billy said, "I don't understand Kyle. All these professions of true love and then he turns around and dumps the woman who he claimed to love. I should have known this would happen. I should have warned Rachel not to…" Billy trailed off staring at the entranceway.
Lily followed his gaze, to see Kyle and Summer, entering the restaurant. Kyle and Billy noticed each other, animosity in Billy's eyes.
"Just ignore them," Lily said, "They are not going to ruin our evening."
"You're right," Billy said, "They deserve each other."
"Let's talk about something else," Lily said, "Like what delicious dish we are going to enjoy tonight."
"There's a few new selections on the menu, that look enticing," Billy said.
"I was looking those over," Lily said, "It's a tough decision."
Billy smiled as he glanced up at Lily, when something else caught his eye.
"Oh," Summer said, a wary tone in her voice.
"What's wrong?" Kyle said.
Summer nodded her head towards the entrance. Kyle turned around to see Rachel and Chloe enter Society.
Kyle was watching Rachel when her eyes met his. Spotting Kyle and Summer, Chloe said, "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. We could go to the club instead."
"It's okay," Rachel said, "I can handle this."
"Rachel, are you sure?" Chloe said.
"I am fine," Rachel said, "Let's just sit over here." Rachel selected a table across the room, from Kyle and Summer.
As the ladies situated themselves, Billy looked from them on his one side, to Kyle and Summer on his other. Looking at Lily, he said, "How did we get in the middle of this?"
"Everyone is in their respective corners," Lily said, "All is good."
"Then why do I feel like I'm already playing referee?" Billy said.
"Do you want to go somewhere else?" Kyle said.
"No, I'm not going to let her chase us out," Summer said, "Let's enjoy our evening and pretend no one else is here."
From the bar, Austin was glancing over their dinner guests, when Lola emerged from the kitchen. "What are you looking at?" Lola said.
"We've got a full house tonight," Austin said.
"That's not a bad thing," Lola said, "It would be worse if we had no customers."
"There's a few to many if you ask me," Austin said, "I can feel the tension from here."
"Everyone is keeping to themselves," Lola said, "No worries."
"The night is still young," Austin said.
The sound of knives and forks against plates, amid clinking wine glasses, filled Society as all respective parties enjoyed their meals. The restaurant hummed with chatter, while Lola enlisted Austin's help to serve tables.
"Could you deliver the food to that table?" Lola said.
Realizing it was Kyle and Summer's order, Austin said, "Uh, sure." He gathered up the plates and carried them over. Reaching the table he said, "Who had the salmon?"
"That's me," Summer said.
Austin placed Summer's dish in front of her and giving the other one to Kyle, he said, "And you're the chicken."
Kyle looked up at Austin, with a displeased expression. "That's what you ordered, the chicken pasta," Austin explained. Kyle simply raised his eyebrows at him.
"Enjoy," Austin said, making himself scarce, as quickly as possible.
"Is it wrong that it curbs my appetite to have Travers serve our food?" Kyle said.
"Stop being so suspicious and enjoy your dinner," Summer said.
Austin was soon over at Chloe and Rachel's table refilling water glasses. In his rush to serve everyone, Austin spilled some water, the accident splashing Rachel.
Rachel exclaimed as she got wet, making Kyle, Summer and Billy become tense. "I'm terribly sorry," Austin said, immediately wiping up the spill.
"It's okay," Rachel said, "Chloe, you will have to excuse me to the ladies room." Rachel got up from her table, all eyes were on her, relief coming into them, as she entered the washroom.
Billy excused himself from his table, "I will be right back," he said.
Walking over to Chloe, Billy said, "You brought her here, tonight?"
"I didn't know her soon to be ex and his girlfriend would be here," Chloe said, "At least I got her out of the house and she's been fine since we got here."
"I can feel the tension on both sides and I am in the middle of it all," Billy said, "Let's hope the rest of the evening can go smoothly."
"Uh, I think you may have spoken too soon," Chloe said.
Rachel had come out of the ladies room and stopped in her tracks, watching Kyle and Summer holding hands across the table.
Watching Rachel approach the couple, Chloe said, "Oh, Rachel no…"
Spying Rachel heading in their direction, Summer tensed up and said, "Incoming..."
Reaching the table, Rachel said, "Well, you two seem to be having a lovely evening."
"We were," Summer said.
"It's nice to see you and Chloe enjoying the same," Kyle said.
"We are," Rachel said, "I have a question for you."
"Here it comes," Kyle thought, as he waited for her to continue.
"Where's my daughter?" Rachel said.
"Excuse me?" Kyle said.
"Well, you took her and I can't help but notice she's not here, so where is she?" Rachel demanded.
"You don't have to worry, she is with someone I trust," Kyle said.
"You obviously don't trust me anymore," Rachel said, "But I would like to know who is looking after her."
"She's in good hands," Kyle said.
"If you don't mind, we would like to continue enjoying our evening," Summer said.
"Was I talking to you?" Rachel spat.
"You've got your answer," Kyle said, "So why don't we not talk anymore tonight."
"That's your answer for everything," Rachel said, her voice rising, "To dismiss me, just like you did out marriage."
"I'm not going to argue with you about this in public," Kyle said.
"You're making a scene," Summer said.
"Oh, I'm sorry, did I embarrass the thief of hearts, the queen of Genoa City?" Rachel said.
Standing up, Kyle said "Stop it. You want to be mad at me fine, but I am not going to let you disrespect Summer."
"What's the matter Kyle?" Rachel was yelling by now, "Don't you want everyone in here to know Summer is a homewrecker? That she seduced a married man into her bed!"
"That's enough," Kyle angrily said.
"No, it's never going to be enough," Rachel said, "You walked out on me stole my daughter! Now you've got this hussy to take my place!"
"I told you, not to speak to her that way," Kyle said.
"Rachel?" Chloe said, "Honey, let's go home now."
"Good idea," Kyle said.
Ignoring Chloe, Rachel continued, "You my dear are never going to be Diana's mother."
"I would never presume to replace you," Summer said, "I am only helping Kyle to take care of her."
"You mean take care of Kyle," Rachel said, "As long as he pleases you in bed, you will do whatever he wants!"
"You are going too far," Kyle said.
"You and her went too far, when she batted her eyes and stole you from me!" Rachel said.
All the patrons were staring, as Lola marched out of the kitchen. "What is going on out here?" Lola demanded.
"And there's the other one," Rachel said.
"Would you please calm yourselves, or I am going to have to ask you to leave," Lola said.
"Look who is making demands now," Rachel said, "You tried to steal Kyle away too!"
"I believe she asked you to leave," Austin said, "Now, I am asking. Take the argument outside, or you all can be tossed out. You are not going to disrupt the other patrons anymore."
"You do not have the right," Rachel snarled, "You tried to take him away too! You remember the gun?" Looking at Summer, she said, "Oh, how I wish you had…"
"Don't finish that sentence," Kyle warned.
Stepping closer to Rachel, Austin said, "I asked nicely. Now I'm telling you to get out."
"He's right," Chloe said, touching Rachel's arm, "Let's go."
"I will leave when I am good and ready," Rachel said. She pulled her arm away from Chloe and pushed her backwards, so hard, Chloe fell to the floor.
"Oh, my gosh Chloe!" Lily said, going to her aid, "Are you alright?" Chloe didn't answer, she only looked at Rachel with disbelief in her eyes.
"That's it, you leave or I call the police," Lola said.
"Rachel, don't make this situation more difficult than it already is," Kyle said.
"You did this to me!" Rachel hollered, "You took everything from me and now you have turned everyone against me! You and that woman have ruined my life!"
Rachel grabbed hold of knife, from a nearby table, when a hand came down over hers, preventing her from picking it up.
"Put it down," Billy said. Rachel was seething with rage, as Billy said, "Rachel, you don't want to do this. Think about your girls. Look at yourself, look what you're doing, don't go there. Let go of the knife."
Rachel looked at the shock in Kyle's eyes, drifting to the knife her hand. Realizing her actions, she released her grip on the utensil. Tears spilling down her cheeks, Rachel dropped to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.
Kyle moved to comfort her, but Billy put his hand up. "You've done enough," Billy said.
Billy put his arm around Rachel, saying, "Rachel? Sweetheart, it's time to go. Let me take you home."
"I don't want to go home," Rachel wailed, "No one is there."
"Okay, let's at least get you some fresh air," Billy said.
Going to her other side, Lily said, "Rachel, it's Lily. I am going to help you too." Billy motioned for Lily to assist him, in helping Rachel to her feet.
Watching Rachel's distress, Chloe had tears spilling down her cheeks. As Billy, put an arm around Rachel, she looked at Kyle.
"How could you do this to me?" she cried, "I loved you! You took the wonderful life we had and threw it all away…and for what? For her?"
Kyle had tears in his own eyes, as he said, "Rachel…I'm sorry."
"Come on," Billy said. Handing her off to Lily, he said, "Can you take her for a minute?"
"Of course," Lily said, guiding Rachel to the exit, "It's all okay, come with me."
Going to Chloe first, Billy said, "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"Not physically," Chloe said, "I've never seen her like that."
"Unfortunately, I have," Billy said. Addressing, Lola and Austin, Billy said, "I apologize for the disruption. Obviously, Rachel is not herself."
"I'm thankful you were able to talk her down," Kyle said.
"What is wrong with you?" Billy said, "You tore her whole world apart, to get what you wanted."
"I did not want to hurt her," Kyle said, "What was I supposed to do, lie to her for the rest of our lives. Carry on with Summer in secret."
"How about you honored your vows?" Billy said, "That woman loved you with all her heart and soul. She would have done anything for you. You don't even realize, how good a life you had with her. But then you went and messed it up. You didn't just break Rachel's heart, you broke her."
Rachel's sobs penetrated the room, as she was refusing to leave. "Billy…" Lily said, looking at him for help.
Approaching them, Lily said, "What are we going to do?"
"This is bad," Billy said, "We need to get her to the hospital."
Going to Rachel, Billy placed her arms around the back of his neck. Picking her up, he said, "Alright sweetheart, I've got you."
Kyle stared at the sight of Rachel, as she was assisted out the front entrance. Wiping away a tear, his heart ached for what she was going through.
Touching Kyle's arm, Summer said, "Are you okay?" Kyle shook his head. "We should go," Summer soothed.
Taking his hand, they passed by Chloe. "How are you?" Summer said, "Can we give you a lift home?"
"No, thank you, I'm fine," Chloe said, "I called Kevin to meet me here."
"She's going to be alright," Summer said.
Chloe nodded, watching Kyle and Summer leave Society. "I hope so," Chloe said, putting her head in her hands.
