Light dappled through the breaches of the caves walls; splattering a array of oranges and yellows into the cave. The stone warming by the radiating sun. The rustling of wind through leaves whistled. The smell of wet dew hung in the air, mixed in with the scent of pine. David out-stretched his sturdy arms, pulling his stiffened muscles. He glanced down to his side; his companion missing. His brows drew together as he frantically searched the cave. His heart rate suddenly slowed. There she was.
His eyes focused in on Regina. Her slender form standing just before the caves mouth. Her arms relaxed beside her. David could only see her from behind. David found his gaze falling on his nemesis overly long. His chest tightened and throat felt thick. He blinked and swallowed.
David suddenly jumped.
"Are you done, staring?"
'How did she know' David gulped. "I wasn't staring!" He stood from his spot. He ran his hand through his hair and straightened his clothing. "I was making sure you hadn't ran off."
Regina turned to face him, but her gaze didn't quite meet his. "What ever the reason, we have work to do. So if you're done gawking, I suggest we head off".
David's gaze bounced around as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I wasn't gawking!"
Regina's arms crossed her chest.
David found himself stumbling a step back. His eyes following her hands. Hands that rested onto her chest, her rounded chest. He swallowed the thick lump in his throat, before quickly looking away then back towards her. For some ungodly reason his sight fell to her lips. They were chapped but full. He shuffled on his feet pushing all thoughts deep down. "Let's go!"
David stepped in front of Regina to lead the way. He need something else for his eyes to focus on. Something that wasn't her. His stomach twisted and knotted.
David relaxed into the heat of the sun. His ears tuning into the whistling of birds and the scurrying of wild critters. They headed up the stone filled path; Regina was certain of a lake nearby. Occasionally he would glance back towards her. He insisted on leading, he was the one with sword after all.
Occasionally he would look up, admiring the weathered trees rising out of the earth. And of course looking for potential threats. Too his surprise, they hadn't come across anyone. He was stuck alone with his enemy. His very attractive enemy. The thought pained him. Tugging at his heart. He was married; he still loved Snow White. On his journey through the forest; he concluded it was just evolutionary attraction. He looked but he would never act on it! He shook his head trying to wash out all his sinful thoughts. But all he could think of, was full lips and round breast.
Eventually David could hear gentle water trickling and chuckling as they arrived at a steady flowing current. 'How about that. She was right!'
The river bank consisted of gravel. David watched as wild minnows darted through rocks in the waters shallows. The scent of wildflowers, grass and sweet clover filled his olfactory glands. A smile reached his eyes at the sight and sent. His stomach fluttering
A blush suddenly creeped upon his cheeks. David found himself freezing onto the spot, speechless. His face, neck and ears turning red and his stomach hardening.
Regina stood before him; bare toes just teasing the waters edge on the rivers bank. However, her toes weren't the only thing bare. Her slim but toned body stood before him. She was shorter now, without her signature pumps, yet still tall. Her shoulders back, chest out and chin high. Her fingers drummed against her legs before she stepped in.
Heat rose from David's stomach. His eyes wanted too look, but at the same time his head pulled away. He raised a hand to his face.
Regina noticed, the words. "oh don't be such a prude." Left her lips.
David backed away; his arms crossing his chest. His mouth went dry. "I'm not being a prude. I just need to collect fire wood. So we don't freeze again!". David nodded. He couldn't hide the rose shade of his cheeks before he stormed off.
'Prude how dare she? Maybe she's toying with me. Like she did when she invited me for dinner? I didn't fall for it then. I won't now!' 'Maybe you're being and idiot and reading too much into it. Regina as Queen always had some form of cleavage exposed. She's always been confident. It's not like she's actively flirting with me. Not like the dinner invitation'
Some time had gone passed; to David's likening he had managed to collect enough fire wood to get them through the night. Thankfully for his backs sake; the cave they shared hadn't been too far from the river.
He dropped the logs down with a heavy thump. To his surprise Regina was already there, her hair still damp. The droplets of water glistening in the light on her skin.
She flicked her hair to the side. "For a while I thought you weren't coming back. That you had been scared off". Her slender fingers found her ample hips.
David offered a flash of a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "You don't get rid of me that easily."
Regina huffed. "If I wanted you gone, you'd already be gone."
David grinned. "I had a feeling you'd say something like that."
Regina hushed him. "we need to get this fire going before the sun sets."
David's face softened and eyes lit up. "What? You don't want to snuggle up to Princess Charming? Isn't that every girls dream?" After realising what he had said, his stomach sunk. It just fell out.
"Maybe if Prince Charming bathed once in a while. Snuggling you would be like snuggling a dirty, hairy pig."
David in jest, sniffed himself. "Hey! The water was cold!"
Regina's brow rose. "you didn't even feel it!"
He shrugged his shoulders. "well it may have been cold………"
