Disclaimer: Yeah... I don't own DMC or anything related to the franchise... sad isn't it?

This past week has been quite an active one for a certain Demon Hunter. She managed to snatch quite a profitable contract with a touchy client no less; which means little to no contact and a lot of money to compensate for her discretion.

As per usual, a rich family gets involved in a cult, they mess with stuff they shouldn't and leave a huge mess behind because of their twisted hobbies.

It works for her; the snobs mess up and Lady gets paid.

She hates demons and anything related to them. She learned that not everything is as black and white as she believed it to be, but messing with the underworld still can only lead to disaster.

Well, Lady can't control people or force those sickos from making their weird cults. But at least she can kill those ugly bastards and make a profit out of it.

This job specifically was quite a chore. A whole isolated mansion turned into a nest, every floor brimming with the skittish monsters. Normally Lady would take the week cleaning the place out, luring the dumbest ones into a funnel, and blow them up into bits.

However, in this one job, she went quite recklessly. In what she called 'crashing the party a la Dante', Lady went guns blazing and explosives blowing everything up. In what normally would take a lot of days to work thoroughly, this one ended in two days.

For whatever reason would a seasoned Demon Hunter risk so much in what should be a pretty normal job?

Lady herself can't explain properly what happened to make her do things as she did. However, she is quite confident that it has nothing to do with wanting to see a brooding white-haired guy.

No way, not a chance.

"Lady, can you pass up the toast?" Dante called out to her with an extended hand, nodding toward the quite organized basket on the table.

Composing herself after losing her bearings from her musings, Lady shifted in her chair and passed the basked along with the table.

"Thanks bunches." Dante said with a wide smile, three pieces of toasted bread already in hand.

Resuming her wandering thoughts, Lady is very assured no mixed Demon/Human influenced her decision.

That's why she is having breakfast at Dante's shop because she is clearly in no hurry to see her friend's crazy, egotistical, anti-social, hot brother.

To prove her point, she watched the people at the table. Dante, stuffing his face with bread at the head; Trish sitting to his left enjoying a sweet dry cake; and Nero at the seat right across Lady, eating a slice of gingerbread.

No Vergil in sight, point properly proven.

"Yo Dante, where all did this stuff come from?" Nero called out to Dante, crumbles of gingerbread at the corner of his lips. "This is the first time I eat anything that isn't pizza in your place."

Taking a good sip from his cup of coffee, Dante washed down the toasted bread before speaking up. "Know what, I have no idea. Just came down to see if I could find something to eat and voilà, delicious stuff all around."

Nero raised an eyebrow at the man. "So, stuff just appears in your kitchen and you just eat it?"

"Why not?!" Dante almost looked offended by the question.

Placing her fork on the small plate, Trish cleared her throat and looked at Nero. "I think it is safe to assume that your father was the one that arranged the food."

An agreeing hum came from Dante. "Makes sense…" He then eyed the table more attentively. First the toast, then the cake, the basket of slices of bread, and the jar of juice right in the middle. "Man… Vergil is a pain in the ass, but boy this treat is worth the hassle of having him here."

They shared a small laugh at his words, even Nero found himself laughing at his uncle's antics.

But hidden by the sound of their voices, a set of quiet steps came down the stairs, calmly making their way to the kitchen. "Your words are truly touching, brother."

Everyone stopped eating to turn and look at Vergil standing at the door.

The three most 'normal' of them shared a little look between themselves, not sure what to expect of the man joining them. Dante on the other hand…

"Ahh, you know me, Verge. Kindness is my second nature." The younger twin said with a grin.

Looking down at this brother Vergil stepped forward. "And stupidity is your first." Casually walking around the table, he went toward the cabinets to take one mug for himself.

Watching quietly as the frowning white-haired man walked over the stove to pour coffee for himself, Lady took a few nibbles at her piece of toast. Her eyes moved on his frame, pausing just a bit as they glossed a little down his waist.

'Yup, great butt too.'

"Yo, old man. What the hell happened yesterday?" Nero's loud voice startled Lady out of her very innocent, not at all dirty daydream.

Placing the pot down, Vergil took a sip out from his mug and glanced at his son. "Whatever do you mean?"

"The job?! I got a call from the client. She said that you didn't take the money." Nero pointed at his father with the gingerbread still in his hand. "Then I went over there and there is a giant gash on the building. What happened to mind the surroundings?"

Leaning against the wall, Vergil frowned at Nero; when the look didn't dissuade the boy, he then sighed and shrugged. "The building still stands and the pest is gone. Any competent mason can fix the damage in less than a week."

"If we go around screwing over people's houses, that is bad for business," Nero said back. "We can't just say 'Pay a mason to fix it.' And go along with our day."

Vergil's brow furrowed in slight annoyance. "They should have more than enough to pay for it." He gave his son a look that translate to something akin to 'Remember the payment I didn't take?'.

Frowning back at the man, Nero leaned back into his chair and sighed. "Working for free is not a good alternative."

"I didn't do it for the money. I did it for you. You asked for my help and I helped." Vergil's reply took the fight out of Nero.

Brushing the back of his head, Nero looked away a light tint of red on his cheeks.

"Nah, no. You ain't getting out of the hook that easily." Dante raised his voice, getting everyone's attention to him. "Vergil, we really have to talk about this money thing."

One very tired sigh escaped the older twin. "Whatever do you mean?"

"Your very clear disregard about money, that's whatever I mean, you fuck. You buy stuff that's expensive as hell, then you go around doing volunteer jobs." Dante pressed his hands together, posing them in front of his lips as to give him an air of seriousness. "Come on man, come clean. Are you assaulting people on the streets and taking their money?"

"You take me for a common thug?!" Vergil's tone never sounded more indignant than this.

"Well, you have to admit that your sudden flow of cash is weird as hell." Dante continued.

"Sudden?! I didn't know you kept tabs on my finances." The older twin getting more and more vexed at his brother. "Brother, you are not the only one who has hunted demons as an occupation."

"You… a Demon Hunter?" A sonorous laugh escaped Dante. "Now you're gonna say that your big stash came from our very honest and not very profitable job."

Vergil took a long sip from his mug. Then he walked over to the sink and left it there. With no words to his brother, Vergil walked away from the kitchen with a stoic march.

"Dante… you made him mad again." Trish 'scolded' her partner with a smile on her lips; Dante grinned back at her and Lady had to fight back a little grin of her own.

But Nero wasn't nearly as amused as everybody else. "Man, do you really need to be an ass to him every time? I get that he is an ass too, but how can he change that if you keep going at him."

"Relax, kid. Your papa is a grown-ass man. He can take a few jokes before he goes stabbing mode." Dante replied with a wink, making Nero growl back at him.

Just as they were giving up on Vergil coming back to the kitchen, his steps sounded from the hall, and quickly he appeared at the door with a small leather bag in his hands.

"That is your answer, buffoon." He tossed the bag on the table and as its round bottom bounced on the wood, came a rich sound of glinting metal stacking in one another.

With a curious hand, Dante undid the knot tying the container. From there the round little thing toppled to the side, spilling jewels and jewelry over the table.

"Huh? The hell is this?!" Dante frowned, taking a rather large ruby in his hand.

"Oh my… look at these pieces." Trish reached for a golden necklace with an emerald at its center. She then handed it to Lady and reached curiously toward a shining silver bracelet. "These most cost a small fortune."

"Some more than that," Vergil replied normally for the first time to anything Trish has said to him. "My way of working is vastly different than yours Dante. You haggle with anyone who comes in to feel a few pests. I only did it when it was worth it. My time and price."

"Did you work for a king or what?" Nero asked confused, his eyes staring at a very shining diamond laying on the table.

"Not only humans want demons dead, Nero." Vergil stated.

Placing the ruby close to his eye, Dante shook his head and glared down at the fortune in the form of a bag right on his dining table. "Man… Nico was right. You are a goddamn vampire. No, scratch that. You are a Vampire-Pirate, hoarding all this gold and jewelry."

Trish couldn't suppress the chuckle escaping her. "Vampire-Pirate-Demon." She added with a bit of mirth in her voice.

"Vampire-Pirate-Demon-Human." This time Nero jumped into the joke, giving a sideways grin as his father glared at him.

"Add in hot too…" Lady added with a very tiny whisper, one that completely eluded Vergil and Dante. Nero and Trish on the other hand heard quite well her sudden words; the blond gave her a little teasing smile, while Nero shook his head and looked away in hopes of forgetting what he heard.

"Have you finished with your clown show?" Vergil growled at the laughter at his expense.

"Almost, Verge." Dante declared with the biggest smile ever. "You know… for someone so reserved and cold, you sure love to get some booty." Seeing his twin frown worsen just empowered Dante to go harder. "Do you work only with jewels or do you take some doubloons for the job?"

And that was more than enough for Vergil. Reorganizing his bag again, he took it from the table and quickly turned to leave.

"Yo, you forgot some of your shining shit." Nero called to him pointing to the jewelry still in Lady's and Trish's hands, but Vergil gave no sign that he cared about it, instead he just vanished to the second floor without another word. "Now what?"

"Looks like he doesn't care." Dante shrugged. "That means today is your ladies' lucky day. Not only you got a great breakfast but a gift to top it off." He then wiped a fake tear from his eyes. "My brother is so generous it makes my heart all fuzzy."

While Lady laughed at her friend's antics, she quickly stood up with a disapproving look. "You are an ass."

"Great looking ass, I heard." Dante said back with a wicked smile.

Shaking her head at him, Lady turned to Trish. "Want me to give it back?"

The blond demoness looked at Lady and then at the beautiful bracelet in her hand. "Well… if he really doesn't care to take it back, I think I'll keep it."

Lady shook her head again. "You two are impossible." Her friends didn't look ashamed or regretful of themselves, instead, they are slightly smug about it. "Well, if you don't mind. I will give this back to its owner." She dangled the necklace in her hand.

"Good luck. Just be aware of possible flying swords." Dante waved one hand as Lady walked past him. "Vergil is quite fond of tossing those around."

Ignoring his jest, Lady left the kitchen. But not before hearing Dante turn to Nero and speak.

"So, now we know you got quite the fat inheritance coming up."

Nero's growl was loud and long. "Man, just shut up."

Her stroll to the second floor was very short, and before she had the time to think things through, she found herself standing in front of the closed door to Vergil's room.

'Oh come on, stop being so stupid, you can do this. Just knock on the door and give the shining thing back. You. Can. Do. This!'

Lady raised her hand, pressing her knuckle against the wooden surface.

'But what am I doing? Are you crazy? Of all people to get horny about, you choose Vergil? half-demon, power-hungry, anti-social, handsome… hot… sexy in a stoic type way…'

"Mary…" Vergil's voice came from the room, startling a small yelp out from Lady. "I can hear your breathing on the other side of the door. If you have something you need, just open the door."

Letting out a defeated sigh, she pushed the door open. "Hey." She managed to say with a smile. "You forgot one of your jewelry downstairs."

Braving a few steps in, Lady walked into his room, closing the door behind her as she moved closer to the brooding man sitting on the side of his bed with a heavy-looking book in his hands.

Vergil eyed the golden piece dangling in her hand, he then shifted his gaze back to the book. "Do you like it?" He asked in a neutral almost monotone tone.

Giving a spare glance to the expensive piece of jewelry, Lady shrugged. "It's pretty, I guess."

He then hummed. "Keep it."

"Really? Why?! This thing is probably worth more than my bike." She gave him a slightly confused look.

One of his signature slightly annoyed sighs came out. "There are plenty where that came from. It has no greater meaning to me other than monetary value. So, if you want it, keep it."

"Tempting…" Lady eyed the necklace again, imagining the amount of stuff, mostly guns, she could buy from the money she would get from this. Yet, instead of dropping it into one of her pockets, she stepped forward and dropped it on top of Vergil's open book. "I prefer to wait to get a proper gift from you."

Vergil looked at the necklace and then at her. The mildly puzzled look on those pretty blue eyes made her squirm a little. "That is… one strange assumption, Mary."

"Is it?" She said with a grin. "I've plenty of strange things happening in my life."

Vergil hummed once again, completely shifting his attention to the book. As the long silence settled, Lady took a different approach than both of them expected from her.

His hum was to signal the end of their exchange, in other words, this is where Lady should take her leave, allowing the man to go back to his brooding mood.

However, instead of turning around and going for the door she stepped forward and took a seat right next to him.

"Interesting read?" She asked with a sweeter tone.

'Oh god… I'm flirting with him; I'm really doing this.'

"Quite." He replied surprisingly softly. "Words written by thoughts deep given. I had little joys in life, growing up or as an adult. Reading was always… rewarding." One of his hands passed over the page, some sort of adoration shining in his icy-blue eyes.

Again, Lady felt drawn to the man. Watching him speak about his book is strangely thrilling. He looks composed and cold most of the time, but just now his eyes flared with so much passion, that it flipped a switch inside of her.

"Can you read it to me?" She asked in a mellow voice, and when Vergil looked back at her, it was impossible to contain the little smile appearing on her lips.

For a moment Vergil contemplated her request. His face contorted for a moment as if he was dealing with a strong inner struggle. But then, his expression softened and he gave a small nod.

Clearing his throat, Vergil ran an index finger across a line and began.

Does the Eagle know what is in the pit?

Or wilt thou go ask the Mole:

Can wisdom be put in a silver rod?

Or Love in a golden bowl?

Finishing with a small satisfied sigh, he glanced back at Lady.

Most of it flew past her like a bullet but hearing his rich voice utter the words like a song felt wonderful to hear. And this amazing sensation is shown very much in her expression.

"Is that poetry?" She asked with a dreaming smile.

Vergil didn't reply at first. His eyes went a little lost for a moment, his gaze aimed at what Lady can assume to be her lips, or at least to the lower part of her face. He then frowned and looked away. "A poem…" Clenching his hand Vergil forced the book closed with a loud sound. "Mary, you should leave."

She felt his mood change, gone was that calm and content Vergil, in a breath he became cold and distant again, getting up to place his book next to the stack resting on the old shelf at the wall, necklace still buried within the pages.

"Why? I don't think I did anything wrong?" She got up and folded her arms. "Well, I just got it wrong. It's a poem, okay, now I know. And I liked it too."

He glanced back at her, shaking his head a little. "Mary, don't take me for a fool. I understand exactly what are you doing. I simply can't explain why or even understand your reasons. But I know." He then frowned deeply. "I told you before, this is a dangerous game you are trying to play."

"Dangerous?" She scoffed. "I hunt demons as a profession. I faced horrible things and survived. Hell, I even faced you and I'm here to tell the tale."

"That is not my point. However, you have spoken truly. You have seen what I can do, what I did do." Vergil paused to glare at the wall to his side. "Have you forgotten what I did to this city? What I did to Nero, Dante… to you?"

"No… I didn't forget." She frowned, but then sighed and his expression changed to a softer one. "But you are trying to change, right? Nero, Dante, Trish. Everyone can see it. They know you are hard to deal with, but they are seeing your efforts. I'm too."

"A second chance that I most likely don't deserve… nor I should care for it. However, those are different points." He stepped forward, trying to use his taller stature to intimidate her with his next words. "Your support is thoroughly appreciated. But this…" He hissed looking onto her duo-colored eyes. "This is dangerous, and mostly for you."

Instead of folding under his intense glare, Lady only felt boldened for it. She stares directly onto those blue eyes and something within her responded strongly to it.

'They look so intense, so pretty.' She unconsciously bit her lips before stepping forward, almost pressing herself onto him.

"What are you so scared about, Vergil?" She chuckled, running a single finger over his muscular chest. "Do I really frighten you? Why? I don't bite… that hard."

One very deep growl escaped his lips. The glow in Vergil's eyes shone brighter for a moment, his lips parted in a soft hiss, showing his teeth almost like a rabid animal ready to attack.

In a sudden blur, Lady felt herself get twirled around her feet and then her back getting pressed forcibly against the wall.

With widened eyes, she stared at the man leaning so close to her, his arm slamming into the wall next to her head. "You've invaded my thoughts. It's dangerous how much I lose my cool when close to you. It's dangerous how much I want to… You have no idea what you are doing to me, woman."

His breath grazing against her skin felt spectacular, the way he is staring so intently at her made her core ablaze with a desire she didn't even know she had. Green and red eyes are watching those plump and delicious lips with so much wanton that Lady doesn't know how she hasn't slammed her mouth onto his yet.

No, she knows why. She wants to hear it. She wants to see it. That fire hiding under that glare of his eyes, the need that is so clear on that frown desperate trying to conceal his desires.

She needs to witness Vergil give in, just so she can take that step with him.

"Vergil..." She whispered softly, making sure to let her breath graze o so sweetly against his skin. "Where is the man that takes what he wants?"

He growled again, closing his eyes at the sensation of her breath tickling his chin. "Mary… You have no idea…"

"Why are you so scared?" She purred, moving inches close to his lips. "What do you want?"

Lady looked into his eyes. She watched as a great number of emotions reflected on those icy-blue orbs, each one made her a little scared and a little excited. 'Did I make the wrong move?' She thought to herself as Vergil stood there just glaring at her.

But before she could start to fret about her own decision, an almost feral growl came from the man.

The indecisive look on his eyes completely faded, in its place came a look of pure desire, a fire that almost made her squeal just looking at it.

Vergil's reply came in action instead of words. Taking one step forward, he slid one leg in between hers and pressed his body against her. Completely involving himself in Lady's space, he pushed her even more against the wall and crushed his lips onto hers.

Never before Lady had received a kiss that made her legs wobbly so easily. His warmth spreading all over her, his taste invading her senses, making her want even more of it. Getting swept in it, she opened her mouth to allow her tongue to run across his lips.

Another growl escaped him, a sound that was followed by Vergil opening his mouth to give her what she wanted. As they tasted more of each other, as their tongues danced in a frenzy of need and lust, their bodies began to grind softly against one another.

His hands, strong and firm, came sliding down her form. They felt every curve and shape of her sides, settling in a strong grip over her waist. A yelp was forced out of Lady when Vergil grasped firmly at her hips, pressing her very much against him.

When their lips parted away in a wet pop, Vergil instantly trailed kisses down her neck and then went up to bite softly at her earlobe.

"Mary…" He growled in a lust-filled voice. Pulling back slightly he glanced down at her eyes, she smiled at him and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Give me more. I want more." She whispered.

Her wish ringed inside him like a storm. Leaning down again, Vergil captured her lips in another spark-inducing kiss. However, in this one, her hands were the ones doing the exploration of his body.

She ran her hands across his chest, feeling their strong form and shape. They then slid down to his firm abs and finally to his waist. Taking a surprised moan out of him, Lady pulled Vergil onto her, crushing her chest onto his.

So lost in their passion, in their need for each other's warmth; the pair failed to notice the pair of knocks sounding at the door to the left of them.

It was only when the handle clicked and the door pushed open that they stopped ravaging each other's mouths to glance at the intruder.

"Yo Verge, Nero is going back to his place and he…" Dante stopped and stared at them. "Oh god, no. No! Fuck's sake Lady, that's my brother you have in your mouth. Bad friend, bad!"

With a loud bang, Dante slammed the door close, yelling cursing words as he stomped his way to the first floor.

Their lips pulled away from their still-going kiss. But they remained entangled in one another, just sharing a moment of small bliss.

Pushing her head onto his chest Lady allowed herself a giggle. "That was… a reaction."

Vergil sighed, bringing one hand to his face. "I will never hear the end of it."

Pulling back to look at him, she quirked an eyebrow. "Do you regret it?"

He let out a tired sigh, shaking his head with his face still hiding behind his hand. "I should. Dammit, I should…. But I don't." He then looked down at her and actually smiled. "Apparently, I can't think straight anymore. I blame you… and those gorgeous lips of yours."

His words made her laugh, a long and heartful laugh. "Good to know my lips are so irresistible. Next time I'll put on a nice red lipstick and make you go crazy for me."

And his irritated growl came back, but with no real weight to it.

'I did it… I can't believe I just made out with freaking Vergil.' Feeling a giggle coming, Lady pressed her face onto his chest again, making the man look down at her with a quirked eyebrow. 'Fuck… I don't regret it one bit… I'm so screwed.'
