"It's nice to meet you. Hopefully, you'll flourish under Shishou's tutorage as the rest of us plan to," Tao says kindly. "Today's assembly is officially over, get some sleep everyone. Mizuchi, you're the one going with Shishou tomorrow."
"Do you have any Jaw or Sail Fossils?"
"I'm sorry professor, we don't have any fossils."
"What'd you mean you don't have any fossils? Isn't the cave right down on the next route?"
"I'm sorry mam, but this gang took over the cave and threatened all our miners."
"Ugh! I came all the way from Unova, and a random gang just completely ruined my research!"
"Hey, hurry up we need to get a lot of fossils to sell."
"Yeah, sell some fossils to get a lot of money."
"I'm sure we'll get promoted for this."
~Chapter 10: Beach Football?~
~Woosh~
~Woosh Woosh~
~Woosh. Thud~
"Don't block. My punches are too heavy for you to do that. Either evade or deflect"
After a great night in the pokemon center, Lycian was up and ready to go. Currently, he was with Mizuchi on the beach, they were getting a little training in before challenging the gym.
The ninja frog had just been knocked down after he had attempted to block one of Lycian's punches.
Quickly getting back on his feet, Froakie reactivated [camouflage] as he re-engage in combat. After weeks of camouflaged combat, Mizuchi had almost mastered fighting while maintaining [camouflage], he only had a few kinks to work out.
With a plan in mind, Mizuchi silently charged forward, the pads on his feet silencing his steps. The combination of his silenced steps and invisibility prevented almost everyone from detecting him.
The bubble ninja struck at his trainer with a punch that was easily deflected. Froakie followed his initial punch with a combo. Lycian alternated between dodging, deflecting, blocking, or simply tanking Mizuchi's attacks.
After deflecting another punch, the blonde trainer retaliated with a punch to Mizuchi's stomach.
"If you're going to continuously attack, you must ensure that your victim cannot retaliate. Also, you're a ninja, there's no reason for you to not use sneak attacks that's what you specialize in. "
Ever the silent type, Mizuchi didn't grace Lycian with a verbal response, instead, he changed tactics. Mizuchi began to abuse [quick attack] not as an attack, but as a speed technique to blitz himself into Lycian's blindspot before attacking with [pound] to reinforce his attacks. Every move was seemingly random and unpredictable, however, there was one flaw to this method. If the defender is faster than you it wouldn't work properly and in the case of Lycian vs Mizuchi, Lycian was far faster.
Stretching his arm out to the side, Lycian caught Mizuchi as he attempted to attack. With a simple flick of his wrist, Lycian sent the ninja frog flying toward the ground. Similarly to a cat, Mizuchi was quick to correct himself to land on his feet.
"Let's stop right here. We'll relax for a bit before heading out," Lycian said, stopping Mizuchi from engaging again. As he slowly became visible, Mizuchi went for a swim in the ocean. While Mizuchi went for a dip, Lycian released all his other pokemon.
"Hey guys, we're just relaxing for a bit before we go into town." All of Lycian's companions replied in a positive manner before splitting off to do their own thing.
Tao took to meditating midair while he made random shapes out of the sand.
"HAHA!, let's see who can make the largest waves Yamato!"
Snort "I'll do you one better. I'll split all the waves you make."
Wuhuo went far out into the ocean to send waves toward Yamato. As a fire type, typically the ocean would be detrimental to him, however, years of training under Lycian have strengthened him to the point that he could swim with a slight strain.
Yamato stood onshore in a kendo stance waiting to slice the waves that Wuhuo sent to him.
Hinata, the graceful flower that she was, appeared to be content basking in the sunlight while she floated elegantly over the sand.
Following in the footsteps of their senpai, Panda and Minato were competing against each other. The duo was running a 50m dash trying to see who was faster.
By Lycian's leg stood Croagunk, he had only joined the group yesterday, so he didn't quite know what to do. In addition to that Croagunk was…. for a lack of a better word, lazy. The young frog didn't see the point in doing anything so he just stood by Lycian while staring up at him.
"You know you do whatever you want right now?" Lycian inquired, seeing Croagunk still by his side. "Oh, I haven't given you a name yet, have I?"
Croagunk nodded, a slightly curious look on his face. Lycian hummed and appeared to be in deep thought for a second before he turned back to Croagunk. "From now on your name is Hiro, The Poisonous Swordsman," Lycian said looking at Hiro with a slight smile on his face, "Welcome to the team."
Hiro's eyes widened for a second before he smiled and looked at his new companions, however, when he looked at Minato and Panda, he quickly stopped and lethargically whispered "What a drag."
Lycian sweatdropped and thought 'maybe I should've named him Shika?' before he turned to see what Hiro was staring at and his sweatdrop grew. Panda and Minato were currently fighting. Why? No one knew, they fought all the time, similar to a certain duo when they were younger.
About fifteen minutes later, Lycian called everyone back, "Gather up everyone, it's time to go!"
The disciples quickly gathered around their mentor who began to return them to their pokeballs. Once he was down to Mizuchi and Hiro, he put away his pokeballs before addressing them.
"Alright you two, it's time to head out. We'll be exploring the town then later we'll decide what to do in the evening. Now let's go!"
The trio went around to various stories buying various souvenirs from clothes to various trinkets. Their last stop was a store that sold various items relating to sports. Lycian had just returned after renting a pair of rollerblades.
"Thank you, sir. The blades are pretty cool, it just doesn't seem to fit my style."
"Ah! I have something that you might like then. Give me a second," the clerk replied as he went into his storage room to grab something.
As the clerk left, Lycian set his gaze on the frog duo. Hiro simply stood at his side, completely still almost as if he was sleeping. Mizuchi, on the other hand, was watching a child playing with a football outside the store.
"Do you want me to buy you one?" Lycian inquires.
"Why is he playing with a ball instead of a pokemon?" Mizuchi asked in confusion. Didn't all humans prefer to play with pokemon?
"Well, I'm not exactly sure but I have an idea. I'm sure you know that most human activities involve pokemon, right?"
"Hmm"
"Well, there are still other activities that don't involve pokemon and most of these activities are sports."
"What's a sport?"
"A sport is a competitive physical activity in which an individual or team competes against another using various skills. Most sports involve the use of one or more balls that serve as a center point of focus. In the child's case that would be football," Lycian explains. "Perhaps he prefers football to pokemon battles or his parents think he's too young to be training pokemon."
"How do you play football," Mizuchi inquired, staring into Lycian eyes with curiosity oozing from his own.
Lycian ran a hand through his hair, a complicated expression on his face before an idea struck his head. "It'd be simpler to show you instead of explaining," he said with a smile just as the clerk exited his storage room.
"Here," the clerk said as he gave Lycian a bicycle the size of his hand. "Press the button on the handlebar."
Lycian stared at the clerk on why he was given a mini bike before doing as the clerk said. Once the bottom was pressed, the bike began to expand until it was at a size that Lyciab could ride comfortably. Lycian and his pokemon, including Hiro who seemed to have been woken up by the commotion, stared at the bike in bewilderment.
"Hahahaaa! It's been a while since I've seen that expression on people's faces!" The clerk exclaims happily. "The bike uses the same tech as pokeballs to allow it to shrink so you don't have to push it around when you don't."
"What's the price? With that kind of tech it must be expensive," Lycian commented as he examined the bike. Now he understood why the bikes in the games were so expensive and why Misty was so mad at Ash.
"Don't worry about it, this one's on the house. I stocked up on a lot of them when I just started my shop, but ever since those rollerblades came out I haven't been able to sell one. Right now I'm happy to get rid of them since I'm starting to run out of space," the clerk says, waving off Lycian's offer.
"Well then, I'll be happy to take this off your hands," Lycian accepted, gratitude radiating from him. "Also can get a few footballs, about 5 of them would be good and a few tennis balls as well."
"Sure thing," the clerk replied as he grabbed the requested items.
Once the transaction was complete, the Lycian and frog duo went back to the same part of the beach from earlier that day. The blonde released his pokemon who looked around in confusion since Mizuchi was supposed to be challenging the gym today.
"Hey guys, change of plans," Lycian greeted, grabbing their attention. "After a talk with Mizuchi earlier, I've decided to do something different. Normally we'd be challenging a gym or training but I've decided to give you a free day… kind of," he announced.
"So, what are we doing?" Panda inquired, curiosity bouncing within him.
"I'm gonna teach you guys how to play football," Lycian replies as he takes two white and black balls out of his bag. "This find will function as training, but I'm sure you'll find the fun compared to what we normally do."
As he spoke, Lycian drew lines in the sand. "You'll be divided into two teams. Team one will be Hiro and Minato while team two will be Mizuchi and Panda. Your objective is to score a goal by kicking the ball between these posts while simultaneously preventing the opposing team from scoring against you, any questions?" Lycian asked as he finished drawing a miniature soccer field in the sand.
"How exactly is this training?" Minato queried.
"This will teach you fine body control and space awareness while also training your body. Any more questions?" Lycian answered, settling Minato's doubts slightly.
"What will we be doing shishou?" Tao asked. Lycian's first disciple didn't quite understand what his mentor was telling his younger siblings to do, but he understood that it would benefit them in some form.
"You, Yamato, and Wuhuo will be training with him, we'll be doing something similar to them. Any more questions?" All the pokemon were still a bit confused but they figured they'd understand once they began the game.
"No questions? Well then let me tell you the rules. Rule number one, your arms must never touch the ball, any other part of your body is fine. Rule two, you mustn't touch your opponent when you are attempting to take the ball. There is some breathing room around that rule but you'll understand soon enough. Now then Team 1 and 2 come and take the ball from me." Lycian commanded with one of the soccer balls under his foot.
No one moved, the pokemon were still confused, utterly uncertain of what to do until Panda ran forward. The little guy was still as confused as everyone else, but he didn't care simply because he didn't like standing still. As he got closer, he focused more on the ball, he paid attention to nothing else, not even the foot keeping the ball in place.
Once he was close enough, Panda attempted to kick the ball from under Lycian foot, but he couldn't because the ball wasn't there anymore. Why? Because Lycian kicked it, no extravagant moves, he simply kicked it towards the other. "You need to pay attention to your surroundings, little guy." The human told Pancham.
No one paid attention to Panda's and Lycian's interactions, except Hinata who giggled slightly. Everyone's eyes were on the ball as it rolled across the field. Slowly but surely the ball rolled towards the goal as they stared at it, and just as it was about to roll between the posts it was stopped by Mizuchi. The ninja frog, during that moment of suspense, snuck by while everyone was distracted. He didn't know what was happening, but he knew he had to stop that ball.
Still in a trance, the pokemon's eyes snapped to Lycian when he spoke. "Well then, I guess you know what to do. Tao, Yamato, and Wuhuo you're with me. All you have to do is take the ball. Hinata could you make sure their ball does go too far from the field?" Lycian requested dropping the second all on his feet as he moved to the side of the field.
"Of course," the elegant medic replied.
"Everyone now knows what to do, so for a bit of encouragement whichever team scores more goals gets more food, I'll even throw in a smoothie or two. Same thing for you three, whichever one of you gets the ball with gets extra food," Lycian said, effectively bribing everyone to do their best. No one moved, their confusion was down and their hopes were up, but nothing they tried could get them out of their trance. "Well? What are you waiting for? Play ball!" Lycian shouted.
All hell broke loose. The elder trio blitzed to Lycian and attempted to get the ball, but Lycian skillfully maneuvered around them.
Mizuchi kicked the ball as hard as he could toward team 1's goal. Unfortunately, due to a lack of skill, the shot was off target, in fact, the shot was so bad that the ball veered off course, landing before Hinata who sat elegantly on the beach.
Reacting quickly, Minato teleported to the ball and kicked it back toward the opposing team. As the ball flew through the air, it began to glow slightly and moved unnaturally.
"I forgot to mention rule 3. No pokemon moves," Lycian said as he dribbled past Yamato and Wuhuo who were too busy competing with each other to take the ball from him. Once the third rule was heard, the ball came to a full stop in mid-air before it fell to the ground, right onto Hiro's feet.
The strangely motivated Croagunk awkwardly kicked the soccer ball as he ran on the right wing. Out of the corner of his vision, Hiro saw Mizuchi and Panda running towards him in a pincer formation and swiftly created a plan.
He waited until they were almost on him and before they could take the ball, he crossed it to Minato who was waiting directly before their goal. Once the ball was in striking range, Minato struck, scoring an impressive volley.
As the game continued, both teams gradually grew in their ball control skills learning from each other's mistakes. Expeditiously, the game began to stagnate. Their lack of experience made them predictable hence their inability to keep the ball.
Mizuchi was getting frustrated, earlier in the match that his team was at a disadvantage. Minato and Hiro were faster than him and Panda, who was by far the slowest on the field. To neutralize this defect, Panda was designated as the team's goalkeeper, and as a trade-off, Panda could use his hands as long as he didn't move more than 5 ft away from the goal.
Panda would block all of Minato and Hiro's shots, leaving Mizuchi to score against them in a two vs one, but that was easier said than done. Every time he'd find a way to pass one of them, the other would come at him full force, delaying his advance and giving their teammate more time to catch up. This frustrated Mizuchi to no end, to have the ability to bypass at least one of them, but lose as soon as it's a 2v1? This was an atrocity and it would be permitted no longer. Mizuchi had a plan, he'd been watching Lycian as he broke ankles left and right with every move. The ninja frog devised a plan to break some ankles; he had to copy Lycian's moves like an Uchiha.
As Panda caught another shot from Hiro, Mizuchi set his plan in motion. With a sharp turn, Froakie began to stare at his target as the ball landed before him. Shifting his gaze from the goal to the Croagunk running towards him, Mizuchi rested his foot on the ball, preventing it from rolling away, and simultaneously preparing to move at a moment's notice.
Once Hiro was in striking distance, Mizuchi began to move. Froakie baited Hiro with a feint to the right before going on the left. Having experienced this trap before, Hiro ignored the feint and instead shifted to his left(Mizuchi's right) when he saw Mizuchi do it, alas this was a different tactic than last time. Swinging his foot out, expecting to steal the ball, Hiro was startled when he didn't feel the ball. Mizuchi kicked the ball to the right and chased after it, getting past Hiro by attacking his blind spot.
While sprinting ahead, Froakie spied Minato who was waiting for him to get closer before he started to attack. Behind Mizuchi was Croagunk who was quickly closing the distance between them. Recognizing team 1's signature trap, Mizuchi set his plan into motion. Stopping before Abra, Froakie rolled the ball left and right with his foot. He juked to the left, but Minato didn't react, having known Froakie was attempting to bait him. Pushing onto the left side again, genuinely this time, Froakie slipped past Minato who thought it was another bluff. Froakie didn't get far before he came to a full stop, narrowly missing Hiro as he came to a dead stop before the ninja.
Knowing Minato was quickly closing in behind him, Mizuchi decided to use the technique he learned. The ninja juked to the right before kicking the ball between Hiro's feet. Since Croagunk was completely focused on the ball, he didn't see Mizuchi slip around on the right side, catching up to the ball and blitzing away with his high acceleration.
Froakie ran as fast could, quickly reaching his top speed as attempted to get within a comfortable shooting distance. Unfortunately, Minato had enough time to reach his top speed and was closing in quickly. Bit by bit, Mizuchi got closer to the goal, but Minato was closing in quicker and was almost at Mizuchi's heels.
Since Minato was so close, Mizuchi decided to take the shot. He was close to his comfort zone, but he'd never get there with Minato at his heels. Froakie struck the football, sending it flying through the air. As the ball flew towards the goal, everyone stopped whatever they were doing to see if it'd make it.
As the ball got closer to the goal, suspense grew, hearts stopped, the wind stopped blowing, Wingulls went silent, and the waves stopped moving.
~THUMP~
A thunderous thump was heard on the beach when the struck the net. The tension was broken as everyone started cheering. Mizuchi, with a sudden surge of excitement, ran to Panda as he shouted to the heavens.
"GOALLLLL!"
Mizuchi was quick to come to his senses and quickly cease his celebration, pushing Panda away from him as a furious blush appeared on his face. "That never happened, okay?" He said, glaring at everyone. They started to laugh at him, making his blush grow even more as he was further embarrassed.
"That was so amazing!" A feminine voice commented, startling everyone.
~Next Chapter: Chapter 11~
UU TWO: Really unique storyline and plot...just please try to choose some names which are easier to pronounce:D
Also I couldn't understand: are the Pokemon in the fic limited to only 4 moves? Doubt aside your writing style is lovely. Please keep updating!
Never really paid attention to the pronunciation complication, but I got u. No, they aren't limited to only four moves, they can learn however many moves they want, the question is, will the training remember what moves their pokemon have?
LefRighTT: OCxSerena?
Nah, I give you a clue tho. She's a fighter
TheSummerSet: I binge read your fic and fuggin love it dude! I was a little disappointed that the pancham wasn't named Po, the Dragon Warrior, since he has a lil bit of an ego. I imagine the Wu Shi fingerhold to be a funny move to breakout in a league battle. Insanely cool work though! I've been looking for a Pokémon fiction that incorporates martial arts for the longest time.
Thank you. Tbh I wasn't thinking that way when I created Panda. Watched JJK when I made him so it kinda clicked. I was looking for one too, couldn't find any. so I decided to write my own. Still don't know exactly where this will go yet.
sergeifives: I have a character you might find interesting: Years ago, one of my older, (Now scrapped Mystery Dungeon) fics had a Zoroark who fought with a sickle. Or a Kama, whatever she felt like. In sticky situations, she could use a staff to turn it into a scythe and, any time she did that, she started intimidating people saying that they just got themselves into "A grim situation."
Great idea. A mysterious 'grim reaper' with a tendency to use puns, might use it
OllieZ: Thanks for the chapter! Croagunk and Toxicroak have one of the nicest shiny colours, they're one of my favorites! Hope you can show the team's Pokedex info, to know at least what moves they had. Maybe Croagunk can also be a ninja, being taught Frog Kata and more Naruto-like ninjutsu, as Froakie is going more for a mix of Gyojin/Ninja ninjutsu. Loving the team btw, but I hope you show Gardevoir (Hinata) training, and not only as a medic. She can still specialize in ninjutsu and soft martial arts. Hope to see you more regularly
Tbh, Croagunk being a shiny was a coincidence due to who his style is based on. Croagunk will learn Frog Kata, he just won't exactly go the ninja route. Gardevoir won't be a front-line fighter, she's essentially the caretaker of the group, making sure they don't go overboard. I'll try to update regularly, but as you might be able to tell, I have a tendency to procrastinate.
Tylol40: thanks for answering reviews should have been a bit more specific I was thinking more along the lines of personality compared to martial arts
Since there aren't too many reviews I can reply to all of them. Yamato represents Zoro's more serious side and also his competitiveness with Sanji or Wuhuo in this case. It's highly likely that Lucario will be competing with a Hitmonlee when/if I get one.
Random Badass: Thanks for the chapter! Would it be possible for you to have his Pokemon with their names, styles and moves explained in your profile? I have pretty much forgot who's who.
That list would be pretty long. I'll put the party members before each chap and their basic styles so you get a fresh reminder for each chap.
ZobbleStone: Interesting choice of a name change. This new one seems easier to remember. And so, the story continues...
Just felt like it was time to change it, plus I like wolves and cars.
