Hi all,

At first, I was going to have a massive info dump to summarise the last two months, and while there is some of that here, it would not be interesting to dedicate an entire chapter to it. Over the next few chapters, information will be revealed organically.

All Patrons get access to chapters early. Pokemon: Way of Life Chapter 24 and Harry Potter: A Mage's Path Chapters 8 and 9 are already posted on my website.

Chapter 23

October 10th

Lucas hummed the Pokemon theme song as he stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his hips. Padding over to the vanity mirror, he tossed the towel into the hamper and began dressing in the clothes he had laid out last night.

He dressed in boxers and dark blue military cargo pants. They were made from a durable and water-resistant synthetic material that would be effective in keeping him both dry and somewhat protected. On both legs were a few zipper pockets, perfect for storing smaller items and leaving him with more space in his backpack.

Next, he donned a plain white t-shirt and a grey sports vest with a zipper in front. His torso and arms weren't as well protected, but he liked how they looked. Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he nodded in satisfaction.

"Looking pretty good."

They were all neutral colours, which was his preferred style. There was one concession he would make to add a bit of colour to the outfit; a blue cap with an adorable image of Mr Mime holding a knife and fork in her hands. It was the logo for his mother's company—Premier Pokefoods. Drumming up publicity for his new business partner would only benefit him long-term.

Lucas sat down on the bed and slipped his feet into a pair of black hiking boots, tying the laces and standing to test his comfort. Finally, he opened his drawer and retrieved the accessories that his Dad had brought for him. The belt was handy, as it had attachments that could hold the Pokeballs when shrunken down.

Looking at the three Pokemon sleeping together at the end of the bed, he decided to let them sleep for a while longer. Today was going to be a busy day.

Lucas stepped outside onto the balcony and breathed in the fresh air. Autumn was the best season to start travelling. The Kanto region was well known for its mild temperatures and incredible vistas at this time of the year. It was his favourite season as it painted the leaves and foliage a tapestry of reds, oranges, browns and yellows; the colour palette had always soothed his state of mind. It was the one season he would venture outside for some exercise back on Earth.

Today had been a long time coming, ever since he had first woken up in this world nine months ago. In that short time, he had been through so much already, and his old life was beginning to feel like a distant memory. The only thing that clung on like a sore burr was the trauma when he was a child. Sometimes it snuck up on him in his quieter moments. If he genuinely wanted to move on, he had to confront the events that occurred after being rescued in the trailer park.

The one downside he noticed to his Mental Resistance skill was that it worked too effectively in burying anything negative. His mind would always distract him with something else whenever his thoughts strayed to painful memories. In his opinion, it was a little too effective in protecting him from mental trauma, and it felt like it would be a detriment in the long term. At some point, he would have to address the problem.

Dismissing his sudden maudlin thoughts, he returned to his room and decided to inspect his pack to make sure he had everything. Lucas thought he could store everything in his inventory, but a sudden change had ruined that notion. It occurred in late August when he sent another Prayer to Arceus.

Arceus has answered your Prayer!

The Accessibility options have been increased.

You can now access the Menu and Notifications from the System Application on your phone. It cannot be seen by anyone else. The feature can be changed back to the previous setting at any time. Urgent Notifications will still appear in front of the player.

It was a small change but an important one, in his opinion. No one would question him when he looked at his phone frequently, as everybody and their mother had one.

He might have asked for something more substantial had he known what was coming next.

You have used the Prayer skill three times.

Arceus has decided that every time the player uses the Prayer skill three times, he will receive a God's Decree!

God's Decree - A set of rules added to the gameplay to challenge the player. It will target a specific aspect of a player's life to ensure that he is constantly evolving.

God's Decree #1

Trainers Adventure Mode - A set of rules restricts certain aspects of the player's journey to become a Pokemon Master. The number and severity of restrictions depends on the player's Trainer Level.

The player cannot access his inventory outside of towns and cities.

The Trainer must travel to every Gym for the first time on foot.

Wild Pokemon give five times less experience than Trainer Pokemon.

You can only battle Trainers with Pokemon at the same level or higher than your own.

Gym Battles vary in difficulty depending on the level and number of Pokemon in your party. Defeat every Gym in the most challenging setting in the Junior League.

It certainly added a new challenge to his journey. The first rule was seriously inconvenient, as he would have to be more careful with what he brought along with him. He could still keep items in his inventory, but he couldn't access them until he reached the next town or city.

The other restrictions didn't sound too bad. Lucas appreciated the challenge, and he was sure his team would agree. However, it was only the first level. What would the rules look like later on?

He still had another Prayer left to use, but he hadn't thought of any good upgrades, and now that there were consequences for using the skill, he wanted to ensure he got something worthwhile.

Lucas took out his Pokedex."Friday, what qualifications do I need to reach the next trainer level?"

"Lucas is currently a Student level Trainer. The following qualifications are needed to advance to New Student. One thousand points earned from winning trainer battles; win a local tournament and obtain the first gym badge," Friday replied in a female robotic voice.

He had to put in some effort to rank up to the next level. The most significant benefit was that he could carry another Pokemon with him. There were smaller benefits, such as getting an extra five per cent discount and being able to challenge tougher opponents. For now, he could only fight opponents at the same Trainer Level as himself.

Lucas put his Pokedex away and headed downstairs for some breakfast. Faith would be here soon, and he wanted to spend more time with his family before he left.

{0(((..)))0}

Lucas greeted his girlfriend with a kiss. "You look amazing."

She certainly smelled amazing as well, as he nuzzled her neck. She wore her usual citrus-scented perfume, which made him want to take a bite out of her. Faith's cheeks bloomed with colour as if she was privy to his thoughts. She returned the kiss before stepping back to gather her composure.

Faith's attire consisted of a pair of jean shorts and a pale green blouse with floral prints. Like him, she wore a pair of hiking boots and a pair of sunglasses rested on her head. After teaching her the Aura Sheen of Armament skill, she practised it extensively to dress a bit more casually and not worry about protecting her body. She also had her Aura Shield, which sounded more useful when defending against anticipated attacks. Armament was better protection against ambushes.

"We need to get going," David called from the entrance hall. "Jason is already waiting at the town gate."

Lucas turned to his partners. 'I will summon you once we get there. It will be too cramped to fit everyone into the car.'

His Pokemon nodded and dispersed, followed by Faith's Pokemon. They stepped outside and climbed into the car.

"Can I come with you?" Abigail begged, widening her eyes to maximize her appeal.

"No, it's too cute," Lucas cried, hiding his face behind his hands and turning to Faith. "Protect me from this precious child."

Faith snorted before speaking to Abigail. "Don't worry; I will make sure he calls you daily."

"Pinky promise," Abigail demanded, holding out her little finger.

Faith solemnly performed the sacred ritual. Abigail sat back, satisfied. "It's good that you are going with Lucas. You can stop him from doing anything stupid."

"Hey," Lucas shouted indignantly.

"Settle down," Sophia said from the front seat. "Let's get going before Vincent calls and starts complaining. Lucas has a huge crowd of fans waiting at the entrance."

Lucas groaned. He didn't mind the fame much, but he was eager to start his journey. Now, he would have to spend some time interacting with the fans.

They drove outside the gates and headed towards the main road. While waiting, he decided to look at his Status to see his growth in the last two months. Lucas had made good progress with some of his skills, and he levelled twice more after recording a fair amount of Pokemon in his Menu Pokedex. So far, he was over halfway to completing the [Gotta See Them All - Kanto Region] quest.

He had made progress with training his Attributes, and now all of them were above twenty-five when he included his passive bonuses. As a result, he received new Perks for his Dexterity, Perception and Charisma Attributes.

Transform: Multi-Purpose Tools ~ (Active)

Description: Gives the player the ability to transform either hand into tools and control them with utmost precision. Tools must not be larger than the player's hands. Includes micro tools for tasks requiring delicate and microscopic work. The higher the Dexterity Attribute, then the more tools available for him to use.

Sense Malevolence ~ (Passive)

Description: The player perceives when hostile intent is directed at him within a certain range. He can determine the source, depending on whether the target is employing any measures against detection and the level of that protection. The higher the Perception Attribute, the further away he can perceive hostility and the more likely the player will see through the target's stealth/disguise.

Bartering ~ (Active)

Description: The player has a knack for making a Pokedollar. Using his Charisma to beguile and deceive his target, he can purchase items cheaper and sell them at a premium. The higher the Charisma Attribute, the better deals he can strike.

All three Perks were super helpful in their own ways, but the last two sounded like skills he should have received just from performing actions, especially Bartering. Since he never got the skill, maybe it wasn't something he could typically get, and he had to rely on the Perk.

Bartering was similar to Persuasion, but it differed because he could only use it to profit from a transaction. He still felt a little reluctant to use Persuasion. Maybe it was a bit hypocritical since he had the Charisma Attribute that showed him in a positive light. However, that was an overall boost. Persuasion could allow him to potentially manipulate them against their very beliefs and change their behaviour. He was deeply offended by it after using it on Nora, even if it was an emergency.

His Attributes were now above twenty-five. He noticed that the number appeared to be a watershed moment with a noticeable uptake in the Attribute's performance. For example, Physique increased several factors such as strength, stamina, and speed, and all three areas had a noticeable improvement. He wasn't a supreme athlete by any stretch of the imagination, but he was getting up there.

Lucas had to rely on his AP from now on as it was almost impossible to train any of his Attributes further. Fortunately, he had quite a few already saved. He was interested in increasing his Aura capacity further since he relied on it so much. Perception was also a candidate, as it directly correlated to being able to sense threats before they were upon him.

He had worked on increasing the skills he felt were more important. The System conveniently broke his progression down into a digestible format.

Having the Barrier ability saved him from having to learn the Aura Shield from Faith. They were quite similar, from what he surmised.

At the end of September, he had to undergo a second transformation; this time, his arms changed. It was less traumatic this time because he was much more prepared and had his three partners to help him through the transformation. He had explained to them about the experiments and his slow transformation into a hybrid Pokemon. Thankfully, they did not care about his strange situation and fully supported him.

It helped that transforming his arms had been far less traumatizing than changing his entire head. He could now transform his arms and head, but he didn't know if they gave any specific benefits, and he wasn't in any rush to find out.

After the transformation, he received a bunch of notifications.

Congratulations!

The Balanced Aura Perk has increased to Level 3.

New Skill learnt!

[Transparent Vision] (Active) [Lv: MAX] (Next:-) [Cost: Variable]

Description: Enables the player to see through solid objects such as walls, doorways or natural topography. The further the player needs to see through the obstacle, the more Aura it takes to use.

New Quest received!

Awakened Quest 03

Mew, Where Are You?

Description: The player has stopped the second transformation, but it doesn't end there. Find the whereabouts of Mew and get close enough to initiate a conversation, and have him listen and find a solution to the transformation.

Current Objective: Find Mew's location.

Time Remaining: Three Months.

The Evolution Perk has increased to Stage Three.

All Attributes increased by a further 5%

The player can now transform his arms into that of Mewtwo's.

The Pokemon Pouch was a very useful piece of equipment. It allowed the Pokemon to hold an item in battle and quickly access it when required. The pouch was small and inconspicuous and could be placed anywhere on the body. It was a small dimensional space that could hold one item, and the Pokemon could access it anytime.

There were two types of Hold Items: a permanent item that gave a specific perk and a consumable item like a Berry that could heal the Pokemon in battle. The permanent items were special equipment crafted in various professions, and they combined technology and Aura Utilization, just like the Pokeballs and his accessories.

Lucas was planning to buy some anyway, so it had saved him some Pokedollars.

Transparent Vision was a nifty little skill, and it could synergize well with his Telekinesis skill. He didn't exactly know what it would be helpful for unless he was going to break into more places. Maybe there were ruins with some hidden chambers containing some treasure.

He received the new quest to find Mew, and unless the Pokemon conveniently revealed itself to him, it may take a while to complete. The hardest part would be talking to the Legendary Pokemon. After the way Dr Goldman treated it, he would not be surprised if it had already forsaken humans.

{0(((..)))0}

The car slowed down, and David parked next to a small gateway beside the main entrance. The side gate was for trainers and other people entering and exiting the city.

A roar went up from outside; a crowd of people were gathered nearby, and they started shouting Lucas's name as he exited the vehicle. Some were even carrying signs, with quite a few offering themselves up for matrimony. Lucas managed to hide his dismay and waved at them.

"I have to go greet the fans," Lucas turned to the others. "We may get mobbed if I don't greet them."

"Hold up," Jason retrieved his video camera from the trunk. "Let me get my camera. I want to record it for some footage."

Lucas spent some time with the fans, taking photos and signing autographs. They were surprisingly well-behaved, so Lucas was happy to accommodate them. Although, he couldn't wait to hit the road. Because it was dangerous, you wouldn't have a trail of fans following him out in the countryside.

Vincent and Sarah arrived, and they prepared to say their final farewells.

"So, tell me your great plan to protect me," Lucas said to his Dad.

"Giru, come on out," David called.

"Giru!" A robotic voice sounded behind Lucas, and he slowly turned around to see a small floating robot. It had a white coat, short limbs and a single glowing red eye on its head. Speechless, Lucas turned back to him and raised an eyebrow.

"Do you mind explaining the robot?" Lucas asked.

"Giru is a robot known as a Disruptor. It does not have any combat abilities, but it can release a powerful sleeping gas that will knock out all humans and most Pokemon below level sixty in an emergency."

"So cool," Abigail ran up and tried to hug the robot.

"Giru," the robot flew and hid behind David.

"Isn't it going to stand out a little too much?" Lucas walked up and poked the robot.

"It can stay invisible," David beamed. "It's built off the same cloaking technology that Dad's aircraft."

"This is a solution that convinced me that you would be reasonably protected," Sophia said, pulling Lucas into a hug and holding back tears. "I'm sorry I have been a terrible mother the last couple of months."

"Oh, yes, you're a horrible mother," Lucas said sarcastically, patting her back to reassure her he was kidding. "Listen, I don't hold it against you for any arguments we may have had lately. I can understand why you have been so worried."

Sophia nodded and stepped back, grabbing a protesting Abigail still chasing Giru.

The last two months had been a bit of a cold war between his mother and himself. The closer he got to leaving, the more she tried to convince him to stay. It had gotten heated a few times, with loud shouts and slamming of doors. Lucas had never seen his mother so angered; generally, she was pretty laid back. Dad had to intervene, reassuring her that he would find a way to protect their son.

Lucas was glad that things had calmed down because he didn't want to take the step of pointing out that, by law, he was considered an adult. He could understand where his mother was coming from, as she had just gotten her son back, but he couldn't live his life in fear. There was just too much out there for him to experience.

"It's not one hundred per cent undetectable," David warned. "Giovanni had specific equipment that could detect the cloaking technology when we approached the island. However, it is not something that most people can get their hands on."

"Well, this is much better than having bodyguards watching our back," Faith nudged Lucas.

"A good solution," Vincent approved. "Who built this thing? It must be cutting-edge technology."

"Sonya Love," David replied.

"Oh, brains and beauty," Jason exclaimed. "I wish I could give her some of my love."

Sarah smacked her son. "If only you put as much effort into pursuing a real girlfriend rather than daydreaming, then you would have had one long ago."

"Mother, why do you have to be so vicious," Jason cried. He pointed at Sophia. "I have decided to trade you in for a better model. Lucas, we are going to be real bros."

"Let's leave him be," Lucas said callously, turning away from the sight of Jason getting a beatdown.

"Giru!" The robot appeared in front of him. The robot was a cute little thing if you forgot its real purpose.

"I'm passing him off to you now," David said, taking out a phone. "This is an emergency phone with an application installed that lets you manually control Giru. He will act independently otherwise."

Lucas nodded, taking the phone. Up until this point, he had been humouring his Dad. He suspected Giru would be seriously curtailed once he stepped outside town.

"All right," Lucas said. "It's time to say goodbye. Come give me some hugs."

His family swarmed him, with Sophia and Abigail clinging on for an extra long time. The two females were crying, and he had promised them several times that he would contact them once daily to let them know he was safe. It took them another ten minutes before they grabbed their backpacks out of the trunk, and they exited through the gate and into the world outside.

Lucas read the notification he had received as soon as he stepped outside.

Adventure Mode Update #1

The robot known as Giru has been added to the list of restrictions.

All protection capabilities are disabled.

Sure enough, the System restricted the robot. Even though Giru would still be following them, he would be essentially useless in any dangerous situation.

To their right, the main road rose slightly above their heads as it sat on a length of elevated ground constructed to offer some protection from roaming Pokemon. It was a lineal road to Viridian City. A footpath lay straight ahead of them, offering the easiest and quickest way for people to travel to the city. The area beyond the roads was a combination of fields and gently sloping hills, with the forest a few miles to the west.

The fields and the outer edges of the forest were known as Yellow Zones, which meant a small amount of danger, primarily consisting of low-level Pokemon.

Lucas was both excited and nervous about the journey ahead. Although he had been outside before, that had been from the safety of the armoured bus. There was no other protection besides their Pokemon and their wits.

"I don't see why we have to carry packs when you have a dimensional pocket," Jason complained, readjusting his heavy pack. With his video camera, he was carrying a considerable load.

Compared to Lucas, though, it was nothing. His pack was massive and weighed a lot. Thankfully, he received a new ability when he maxed out his Fitness Guru skill. Pack Mule allowed him to carry more on his shoulders without becoming tired so quickly.

"Where's your sense of adventure? Having convenient storage makes it too boring."

The three of them took out their Pokeballs and released their partners. They had grown significantly over the last two months, and Lucas looked at his team with pride. Standing together, it was plain to see that they would be harder to carry as they had undergone explosive growth. Even though Elekid was the youngest, he stood above his teammates at one metre tall. Imara was about eighty-five centimetres, and Dante hadn't grown any taller than seventy centimetres.

'Are you ready, everyone?'

'Naturally,' Dante folded his arms and stood cockily.

'Do you even need to ask?' Imara rolled her eyes.

'Are we going to be fighting some Pokemon?' Max ran up to Lucas and gave a hopeful glance.

'Soon enough. We are going into the wild now, so dangers are everywhere. Stay alert.'

Lucas turned to his two companions. "Okay, reaching Viridian City and challenging the first Gym is the first goal, but there is no rush to compete for the first gym badge. So let's take our time. Is anyone interested in adding Pokemon along Route 1 to their team?"

Faith finished talking with her two Pokemon and stood, placing her backpack. on her shoulders. "I want to focus on the two Pokemon for the moment, but I might spend some money to purchase a Pokemon from another region at some point. It certainly is handy to have a secret catalogue to browse through. However, it is more exciting to catch Pokemon myself now that I have two partners to help."

With full access to her inheritance, she now had plenty of Pokedollars to spend on anything she needed. Although, some Baby Pokemon could sell for over a hundred thousand, depending on their rarity and potential.

"What does the Pokemon Channel say? Is there anything we have to worry about? Any sightings of some rare Pokemon?" Lucas asked. Jason was the one who was given the responsibility to monitor the various media for news on their route.

Jason accessed his phone and began browsing for news. "Are we taking the footpath or heading off into the fields?"

"I want to get into some Pokemon battles with Wild Pokemon," Lucas said. "So look out for anything west of the main road."

Lucas turned to Faith. "Did you put sunscreen on? Although it's not that hot, with your fair skin, sunburn is always a risk."

"Yes, I did. I know how to take care of myself," Faith lifted her chin, a sign of stubbornness. "Don't mollycoddle me because I'm your girlfriend."

"It's not just that," Lucas denied. "You two nominated me the leader, so it's my responsibility to take care of the team, irrespective of my feelings for you."

Since they would be traversing dangerous areas, a leader needed to be nominated that could think quickly on their feet and take command of a situation.

Faith crossed over to him and wrapped her arms around him. "I understand."

Lucas leaned down to kiss her when they were interrupted by Jason. "Oi, no time for that," Jason said, waving his phone. "There is nothing of interest to report. So, we should be fine."

Lucas took out a map from out of his pocket. It was a simple map of Route 1, with notable locations noted down. Jason and Faith looked at his shoulder as he perused the map.

"Well, our first stop should be here," Lucas pointed at a location northwest of them. "Rosetta Hill. It's a popular resting area because it has a natural topography that makes it hard for Pokemon to attack. If we are quick enough, we can get there in time for lunch."

Lucas put the map away, and they started walking on the footpath until they passed the farms, then changed direction and headed into the grassy fields.

"Jason, have your Pokemon protect our backs," Lucas ordered. "Faith, you take the sides, and I will put my three partners in front."

"Yes, sir," Jason saluted. After reconfiguring their team layout, they continued. Lucas switched between looking at his Map and scanning the areas with his Aura Sense. With all the dense foliage and overgrown grass in places, it was an important skill to avoid getting ambushed.

They walked for twenty minutes, occasionally spotting Pokemon in the distance. This close to the road, there were few Pokemon around, as lower-level Pokemon were wary of the vehicles on the road. Occasionally, they came across Berry Trees, and Lucas only harvested a few with better qualities.

A bright Aura appeared in his vision, and it rushed towards them—a Rattata. Lucas warned the others, and they gathered in a circle. Faith raised an Aura Shield, and Lucas prepared to activate his Barrier if her defence failed.

'Imara, you're up first.' Lucas said to the Fire Pokemon.

Imara ran forward to meet the Rattata in the open area ahead of them. It was a level four Pokemon with no surprises up its sleeve. Lucas quickly checked his partner's parameters, a little nervous for his first fight in the wild.

Rattata executed Quick Attack—speeding up at the last second before the two Pokemon met in the middle.

Imara used her footwork to dodge the attack, although she was initially startled by the speed. Rattata went flying past before landing on its feet. It turned around and squeaked in anger.

Rattata is known for its speed. Lucas thought. It probably already has a speed advantage over Charmander before you factor in the difference in size. Quick Attack increased the Pokemon's speed by up to half, so it was a little troublesome.

'Ember.' Lucas commanded.

Imara let out a small stream of fire. It blazed through the air, only to miss. It executed Quick Attack again to escape the flames. Rattata sprinted in a straight line for about five metres before it stopped itself again.

'Its mastery of Quick Attack is low,' Lucas told Imara quickly. 'It can't change direction, which makes it easily avoidable.'

'Understood.'

'Anticipate the next attack and execute Scratch'

Rattata repeated Quick Attack, rushing towards Imara.

Imara watched carefully. Her right claw began to glow a faint white, and she raised her arm as Rattata's speed caused it to leap through the air. Quickly shifting her stance, she immediately brought her claws down as Rattata appeared beside her.

Rattata screeched when Imara struck it. The Pokemon went tumbling along the ground.

Wild Rattata takes 33 damage.

The Pokemon struggled to get up, its legs shaking.

'Ember.' Lucas commanded.

Rattata could not avoid the fire stream and was doused in flames.

Wild Rattata takes 31 damage.

Wild Rattata has fainted.

Lucas and Imara have received 10 Exp.

Imara turned around and shot a flame into the sky with her arms raised. What a victory pose.

'Alright, that was a good first battle for you, Imara.'

{Imara} 'It was too easy.'

'I'm sure you will get some better opponents.'

{Maximus} 'I want to go next.'

'Don't be greedy. We will share responsibilities amongst all the Pokemon.'

Lucas turned towards his companions. "Let's continue."

Over the next few hours, they trampled through the grassy terrain and encountered some Pidgeys, Caterpies and Sentrets. They took turns defeating the Pokemon, and so far, they hadn't met any Pokemon above level four. None of the Pokemon interested them, so they left the poor Pokemon fainted on the ground. Although it wasn't illegal to kill Wild Pokemon, none of them had an interest in slaughter. Also, Lucas didn't think that Arceus would be happy with him deliberately killing Pokemon.

Just before noon, they reached the bottom of Rosetta Hill. At the top of the hill, the summit was circled by huge stone walls, and the only vulnerability was the open sky.

"Well, looks like we made it," Lucas said. "Let's go have some lunch."

So what do you think? I will only give detailed battles in some encounters with Wild Pokemon, which are challenging for the team. Otherwise, they are mainly for Trainer Battles.

Shout Out to Giltlawyer9000 for the Bartering skill suggestion.

Thanks for reading.
