Growling the man changed into the dog Jack had seen that afternoon and with his sharp claws slashed at the canvas – supposedly thinking that might work, but it didn't, it just made the Fat Lady scream and run off away from her portrait and the Animagus.
Snarling that his plan hadn't worked the dog turned and started to leave obviously not wanting to be found here.
He was just passing Jack's hiding spot, when he paused and looked around, finding Jack pointing a wand at him.
The unspoken word of 'Shit...' easily being read on the canines face.
"I'm not quite sure who you are," Jack said calmly "But my gut is telling you're Sirius Black, right?"
The dog sat down and nodded, raising his front paws, Dog-Sirius looked up at Jack expecting something.
"No," Jack said lowering his wand a little "Not until you tell me what's going on."
Dog-Sirius gave a small whine and a confused look.
"I know from experience, you should get both sides of a story before you go pointing fingers and blaming people for things." Jack said looking back down the corridor "Come on."
Together, boy and dog go down the corridor until they were between a blank wall and the tapestry of Barnibus the Barmy.
Telling Dog-Sirius to wait for a bit, Jack started pacing thinking of a place to talk freely.
After the third time, a door appeared on the blank wall and they went inside.
"Ok, in here you can be yourself," Jack said closing the door, but still holding onto his wand.
After looking around to make sure, Sirius Black turned back into his human form and looked the boy up and down.
"I'm not sure, if you're smarter than others your age, or dumber," Sirius said in a rough voice that sounded like it hadn't been used in years.
"Well do you know my age?" Jack said a small smirk on his face as Baby Tooth came out of his pocket to hear everything for herself.
"My guess would be a late teenager," Sirius said smirking back a little. "But something tells me that's not right."
"No it's not," Jack said imagining up some chairs and a table with some plates on it. "Huh, that was meant to have some food on it too." Jack said trying again, but nothing happened.
"Unfortunately, Food and Drink are a couple of things that you can't create out of thin air," Sirius said sighing "One of those ancient laws. We'd need to go to the kitchens to get some."
"Or you know, call an Elf here," Jack said shrugging.
"You know some of the Elves?" Sirius asked curious.
"A couple," Jack said nodding "There are a lot of them." he said before calling out "Dinky?"
There was nothing, except Sirius looking surprised.
"Dinky?" Sirius asked in a surprised voice.
Just then, as if by magic, with a crack an Elf arrived there in the room with them.
"Master Sirius is here!" she said beaming happily and hugging Sirius around the legs "Master Sirius is calling for Dinky?"
"You two know each other?" Jack asked smiling at the gesture.
"Dinky used to be the House Elf of a friend of mine," Sirius answered the boy before looking down at the elf. "Dinky can you bring us some food please?"
"Of course Master Sirius," Dinky said happily letting go "Right away."
With a crack the elf was gone.
"I hope she doesn't over do it," Sirius said sitting down in one of the chairs.
"Why, it looks like you need it," Jack said sitting in the other chair, wand still in hand, just in case.
"I haven't had a proper meal in 12 years," Sirius said sighing "If I have too much rich food now, I might get sick, and that is something I don't really want to happen at the moment."
Nodding in understanding Jack stayed quiet for a bit before saying "So... why were you trying to gain entry to the common room?"
"To get my hands on the person who did this to me," Sirius said gripping his fists and snarling a little.
Confused, because every Gryffindor was at the feast, Jack was about to point this out when Dinky popped back with a large tray of food, including roast beef, roast chicken, bowels of steaming vegetables, soups, spaghetti and meatballs, roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, pork, and a jug of pumpkin juice.
"Here is your food Master Sirius," Dinky said smiling and setting the tray on the table. "Please be calling if yous need anything else."
And she was gone again.
"So," Jack said helping himself to some food "You busted out of one wizard prison to get at the guy who put you in there... and he's here at Hogwarts, AKA a teenage wizard prison?"
"Yes, more or less." Sirius said digging right into the meat, not put off my a teenager calling Hogwarts School a 'prison'.
"There's stories that you're after Harry Potter too," Jack said after a bit.
"Hah! Like I'd ever try and kill my godson." Sirius said not caring about the surprised look Jack and his fairy was giving him.
"Harry Potter... is your godson?" Jack asked making sure he heard that right.
"Yep," Sirius said having a swig of juice "James named me that within the first few minutes after Lily had him. Woke me up at one in the morning to tell me the boy was born and everything."
"Does Harry know?" Jack asked after a moment of thinking.
"Well... that depends on where he was sent, and if his guardians thought he should be told about me." Sirius said, moving on to a couple of potatoes. "Where was he sent by the way?"
"The Dursley's I believe," Jack said looking up when Sirius started coughing.
"Dursley? As in Petunia and her over-grown walrus of a husband?" he asked once he sorted himself out "That was the one place Harry was not supposed to go if something happened to his parents and me. What about Alice and Frank Longbottom? What about my cousin Andromeda and her husband Ted Tonks?"
"I'm not sure about them," Jack said trying to keep him calm "But we met Neville's Gran on the first of September and she said something along the lines that it was Albus Dumbledore's idea to put him there."
"Oh was it?" Sirius said moving to get up and leave the room.
"Where you going?" Jack said getting up too, Baby Tooth flying ahead and blocking the man's way.
"To find that old coot and demand some answers from him." Sirius said reaching to the door, ignoring the fairy, but stopped and span round when a blast of ice/frost hit the door forming sharp icicles to point at him.
"Sirius, at the moment you're the Wizarding world's most wanted man." Jack said calmly, lowering his hand (his wand was still clutched in the other) "What do you think will happen if you just go barging into a fully packed Great Hall and demand to speak to the head teacher? You really think anyone of legal age will listen to you, when they didn't all those years ago?"
"No." Sirius said frowning a little, gripping his hands into fists.
"How about we start with you telling me the story, and who was in the common room you wanted to get to so badly." Jack said surprisingly calm as he sat down again reimagining the second chair to be a sort of sofa, a pen and paper, and a fake pair of thick rimmed glasses.
Chuckling, Sirius came over and laid down on the sofa, twiddling his thumbs a little.
"Well, I suppose it all starts with an old friend of mine," Sirius said after a bit. "I say 'old' because I doubt he is my friend anymore, but he was actually in the same year as me and James, and... Peter..." he said snarling out the last name.
Nodding Jack took notes on this.
"You going to give me this first friend's name?" Jack asked, before Sirius could continue.
"Remus." Sirius said in reply "Remus Lupin."
Jack looked up "As in the same Remus Lupin that is teaching us Defence against the Dark Arts this year?"
"Well, if that Lupin has scars over his face, shabby clothes, keenness for Defence magic and loves chocolate... Yes" Sirius said smiling.
"Does he know what really happened?" Jack asked wondering if they should bring him in here.
"No, sadly," Sirius said sighing "The 'Operation' was kept quiet because we had reason to believe there was a mole among us," Sirius said again snarling a little "But in fact it was actually a rat."
"Ok," Jack said noting this down too wishing Binky had brought something stronger to drink than pumpkin juice. "So, how does this all start with Lupin? What did he do?"
Sighing a sigh that sounded like one that was of a deep secret that was promised not to be told, Sirius said: "He... got bitten... by a werewolf."
