That night, after dinner and saying goodbye to Elisa, Jack went up to Gryffindor Tower to check how Harry was doing, but saw the bed curtains were pulled shut, meaning he was there, but wasn't in the talking mood.
Giving Harry his privacy, Jack got to work sorting the presents he bought in Hogsmeade, letting Baby Tooth to check on Harry, but she came back saying he was asleep.
He was almost done, when the dormitory door opened and in came Neville, Seamus, and Dean, all going over to their own trunks to check they were packed to leave in the morning.
"Guys," Jack said after a minute or two "Do you mind, Harry's trying to sleep there."
"Oh sorry," Dean said quietly then checked the time "Bit early for bed isn't it?"
"Bed can be at anytime," Jack said placing name tags onto the wrapped boxes of sweets he bought that day "It doesn't have to be at 9:00 at night."
"Yeah, ok, but why is he in bed anyway?" Seamus asked louder should be called for.
"He... found some things out about his parents, and needs time for it to sink in," Jack said not saying anymore than that, despite Seamus asking over and over for details.
"It's none of our business Seamus!" Neville said loudly after 15 minutes, his fists clutched on his hat, his knuckles white. "It's Harry's, they were his parents, and if he feels like talking about it he will tell us, got it?!"
The boys were quiet and stared at the round-faced-forgetful boy as he threw his hat down on his bed and left, Baby Tooth flying after him to make sure he was alright.
Soon Jack was done with his presents and left too, to look for Neville, wondering where he might be.

After checking the common-room, the bathrooms, some empty classrooms close to Gryffindor Tower, and asking if Lupin had seen him, Jack was about to head down to the kitchens, when he was passing the room Bunny used for his lessons.
"It's none of his business and he kept asking Jack to say what it was," Neville's voice said, in an annoyed voice.
"Did Jack give in?" Bunny asked back, sounding like he was painting some eggs.
'No, but that's not what I'm getting at," Neville said glumly.
Slowly, Jack knocked on the door and came in.
"Nice to see you know something Phil and the others don't Jack," Bunny said grinning inviting him to join in painting some eggs.
Neville had a small one in front of him that he was giving a base coat of yellow to.
Baby Tooth was painting one herself making it look like her and her sisters.
Bunny had told the students that should they need to talk they can come to him, and they can spend the time painting eggs together, to pass the time.
"Thanks, I guess," Jack said joining them.
"So, you going to tell me what Harry found out today?" Bunny asked looking a little smug as he said it.
"No... because as Neville said, it's Harry's business, and therefore it should be Harry who says it," Jack said calmly as he himself started painting an egg "Although, I fell most of the adults know – well think they know – it anyway."
After a bit of thinking, Neville said "It's the fact that Sirius Black is his godfather and was the Potter's Secret Keeper isn't it?"
"Maybe," Jack said not giving a full answer, but it was obviously a yes.
"And how exactly did he find that out?" Bunny asked shooting a curious / accusing look at Jack.
"Ok first, it was not my idea," Jack said holding up a finger to keep the humanized rabbit quiet "Second, it was those dumb adults being dumb and not going into a private room and/or doing a better check if there were anyone within ear-range."
"Jack if Harry was in Hogsmeade without permission –" Bunny started.
"Hey! I wanted to go back to the common room to do some homework," Jack said "He was the one who wanted to go to the village."
To the side, Neville whispered to Baby Tooth:
"Are they usually like this?" to which she gave a sigh and a nod before setting the brush she was using down and picking up another more fine tipped one.
After a few minutes of arguing, the conversation then turned to Neville and why he had gotten so mad at Seamus.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want to, bucko," Bunny said seeing and feeling the unease coming from him.
After a few more brush stokes, Neville said quietly:
"It's because of my parents. Not long after Harry's were killed, some of You-Know-Who's followers came to our house and tortured them, trying to get information about where their master might be and why he fell."
He paused here to rub at his eyes a little.
"When they couldn't get it out of dad, they turned to mum, I was in my cot upstairs, and Gran was out," he explained. "I don't know how long they were... but I could hear screaming, cries of pain," he said his breathe hitching up a little and eyes twitching a bit "Finally it stopped, someone had come to capture them, but mum and dad's minds were destroyed because of how long they were being tortured. They didn't know who they were, or me, or Gran, or anyone they knew beforehand."
Jack was surprised at this news, surprised and mad at these people for doing such a thing to another living being.
"The followers were sent to Azkaban for life, but didn't get the death penalty," Neville finished up "Mum and Dad are now living permanently at St Mungo's – the Wizard hospital, being - well hopefully – being cared for, and Gran and I go and see then every year for the holidays, tell them how life's going, what's been going on, stuff like that. Although they don't recognise us – it's as if every visit is our first to them."
"So, they have the magical equivalent to dementia?" Jack asked quietly, trying to understand. Getting a confused look from Neville he explained "Sometimes, older humans slowly start to forget things that happened recently – they lose their memories of friends, family, what they can and can't do, and only remember small things like... I know there was one who remembered he was once a pro-time wrestler and he felt he was cheated out of winning the championships, so sometimes he went around the home he was staying in calling out the opponents name challenging him for a rematch."
"Is it curable?" Neville asked a little hope rising inside him. "This Muggle dementia thing?"
"At the moment," Jack said calmly "No. It's not curable, sorry, and the longer someone who has it, has it, the worse it gets. The best 'treatment' they can receive is being cared for by care-takers and not treated any different just because they have it."
"Oh..." Neville said frowning and going back to his egg which he had paned to look like it belonged to Hufflepuff.
"Hey, buck up bucko," Bunny said trying to cheer him up again "There may not be anything for non-magic dementia, but there might be something for your parents. People are just either not looking hard enough or just haven't found it yet."
Feeling a little better, but still sad, Neville nodded in response.
With that the conversation changed to something else.
And the boys stayed there with Bunny until it was time for bed.
Jack and Neville headed back to Gryffindor Tower, Baby Tooth choosing to be with Neville this time, walking in silence, until they were almost there.
"Jack," Neville asked getting a 'Hmm?' in response "Um, well, just thanks for listening, and, understanding why I got mad at Seamus earlier."
"I didn't say I understood," Jack said confused.
"You didn't need to, I could tell by the way you looked like you wanted to hit / kill something as I told you and Bunny my parent's story." Neville said a small smile on his face.
"Well, then you're welcome, I guess," Jack said giving the password to Sir Cadogan before the knight could challenge them.
"And Jack?" Neville asked as they stepped into the common room "Could you, could you not tell anyone about any of it, please."
"I promise I will not say anything to anyone about it, without your say so," Jack said doing his 'promise ceremony' to show he meant it "But you should. It doesn't have to be everyone, but maybe some friends. Just think about it." he said taking Baby Tooth back and went up to bed.
