''What happened after you told him to leave?'' Kagome asked eagerly as she grabbed a glass of champagne from the table.
''He said verbatim 'I can see that we won't get anywhere today. I shall come back when you are more reasonable'. I wanted to scratch his big dumb eyes out,'' Rin growled. ''What exactly does he want from me? I never know what is going on in Sesshomaru's mind.''
''Believe me it's not just Sesshomaru. All men are strange creatures,'' Kagome sighed.
Rin quirked an eyebrow up at her tone. ''You have something you wish to share with the rest of the class?''
Kagome hesitated. ''I ran into Sesshomaru's brother when I was out yesterday and we had coffee together.''
''And?'' Rin questioned. ''Was he rude?''
''Quite the opposite. He was flirting with me,'' Kagome huffed.
Rin's eyes widened. ''Are you sure?''
Kagome rolled her eyes. ''I'm twenty-seven years old. I can tell when a man is interested. I thought he was so handsome when I first saw him but now my fantasy is totally shattered.''
''His poor wife,'' Rin commented.
''Right. She's almost too beautiful but apparently still not enough for him,'' Kagome scoffed. ''Here he comes now. He's walking this way. I gotta go. I'll find you later,'' Kagome said as she rushed to the restroom.
Kagome sighed. She opened the door to the washroom and stepped towards the ladies area when hushed gasps and moans stopped her. She looked around the corner and her eyes widened in shock when she realized who was there.
''Miss Kikyo, what if your husband catches us.'' There was a male Kagome didn't recognize but she noticed he was wearing a waiter's uniform.
''Who cares,'' Kikyo groaned. ''That half demon knows better than to get involved in my business. I swear if he and his stupid parents weren't so rich I wouldn't even give him the luxury of having me on his arm in public.''
Kagome covered her mouth to stop her from gasping out loud. Everything from her conversation with Inuyasha immediately clicked in her head. He knew.
''How long do you and your cousin plan on staying, Rin?'' Izayoi asked her.
Rin shrugged and ignored Sesshomaru's stare that had been locked on her for the past ten minutes. ''I suppose once I get everything settled with my aunt's lawyer and everything is sorted. I only took a month off from work so either way...'' Rin trailed off.
''I'm going to miss you dearly, Rinny but I do enjoy chatting with your cousin. She's lovely,'' Izayoi complimented.
Rin smiled. ''Thank you, I have missed you as well Izayoi.''
''Speaking of missing, Inuyasha, where is your wife?'' Izayoi suddenly asked, very annoyed.
Inuyasha heistated. ''She uh...she called me and said she was on our way but she may be a little late.''
''Typical,'' Izayoi scoffed.
Inuyasha looked away from his mother in embarrassment.
''Good evening, everyone,'' Kagome appeared with a bright smile.
''Good evening,'' Inuyasha gave her a small smile.
''I feel like dancing,'' Kagome suddenly said. ''Inuyasha, I hope you wouldn't mind joining me. I don't really know anyone else.''
''Oh, yes! Inuyasha never gets on the dance floor because Kikyo doesn't like having the attention on her,'' Izayoi rolled her eyes.
Inuyasha didn't even hear his mother while he was looking at Kagome with surprise but quickly nodded. ''Of course. It would be my pleasure.''
''Wonderful,'' Kagome smiled and grabbed his hand to lead him to the dance floor.
After a while of them moving together in quietness, Inuyasha finally spoke. ''I must admit I am kind of surprised you asked me to dance. When we parted yesterday you seemed-''
''To hate your guts?'' Kagome finished for him with a smile. ''I'm sorry, Inuyasha I misjudged you.''
''About?'' Inuyasha asked.
''Um..I-Before when you were talking about your wife, I didn't understand what you were trying to say but now..I get it,'' Kagome finished softly.
Inuyasha looked at her with confusion. ''What do you mean?'' Kagome just looked at him with softened and knowing eyes. Inuyasha's eyes widened in realization. ''H-How did-''
''She's here,'' Kagome cut him off. ''I went to the restroom a minute ago, to avoid you, and she was in there..and she wasn't alone.''
Inuyasha let out a deep breath. ''Kagome-''
''I won't say anything, I promise,'' Kagome told him.
Inuyasha's body relaxed. ''You must think I'm pathetic.''
Kagome shook her head. ''No, not at all and you don't have to explain anything to me you don't want to.''
''It didn't start out like this,'' Inuyasha finally voiced. ''In the beginning she was-she made me think-'' Inuyasha sighed.
Kagome pressed a finger to his lips. ''I like you very much Inuyasha,'' Kagome admitted. ''You're handsome, gentlemanly, funny, and very sweet.''
''I'm sensing a 'but','' Inuyasha smiled.
''But, I like being a woman of principles and being with a married man, whether he is unhappy or not, isn't something I would enjoy,'' Kagome finished.
Inuyasha nodded. ''I like a woman of principles.''
''However, I'm here if you need a friend,'' Kagome offered.
Inuyasha sighed in relief. ''A friend sounds..perfect right now.''
They smiled at each other until a hand, belonging to his wife, rested on Inuyasha's shoulder.
''Excuse me. Sorry I'm late, dear. May I have my husband back now?'' Kikyo gave Kagome and Inuyasha a bright but fake smile.
''No, you may not,'' Kagome smiled back and wrapped her arms around Inuyasha's shoulders.
''I'm sorry?'' Kikyo questioned.
''Kagome, it's fine,'' Inuyasha sighed.
''No, it isn't. Just because you are finally finished with the waiter does not mean you can come over here and collect Inuyasha who is having a great time without you. So, before I forget why I'm being nice enough to keep your secret from Inuyasha's family, who will, without a doubt, throw you out faster than yesterday's newspaper, get away from us,'' Kagome threatened.
Kikyo's eyes widened. ''I don't know what the half breed told you but-'' ''Inuyasha didn't tell me anything. Get away from us before I make a scene, I mean it,'' Kagome warned her.
Kikyo's eyes narrowed. ''This isn't over.''
''No, it sure isn't,'' Kagome agreed before turning away from her and back to Inuyasha and smiled.
''She isn't going to let this go, Kagome,'' Inuyasha warned her.
''Good. Because I'm just getting started,'' Kagome responded. ''This trip is going to be a lot more interesting than I anticipated.''
''Oh, they look lovely together, don't you think?'' Izayoi said.
Rin smiled until Sesshomaru held out his hand to her in a dance offer. She look her head.
''Oh, Rin you must dance at least once with Sesshomaru. Please?'' Izayoi requested.
Rin reluctantly nodded and took Sesshomaru's hand so he could lead her to the middle of the room.
''Are you ready to talk?'' Sesshomaru asked her after a moment of silence.
''Not with you,'' Rin answered.
''Rin,'' Sesshomaru said her name like he was scolding a child.
''Stop saying my name like that,'' Rin snapped.
''Well, you continue to be unreasonable,'' Sesshomaru responded.
Rin narrowed her eyes and leaned up to be at eye level. ''Let me make this perfectly clear, Sesshomaru. I hate your guts. And that's not going to change.'' She removed herself from his grasp and walked towards the exit.
