Enjoy!
The last few days were uneventful to say the least. I was still residing at the Mansion with Klaus and Rebekah as Caroline and I tried to clear the air between us. We had briefly spoke through text and she let me know that she was with Bonnie at her mothers house out west somewhere. I didn't pay much attention to what she had said. I was far to pissed off after she filled me in on what happened. The one thing Klaus forgot to mention to me, was that to break the connection his mother had to the witches, one of the Bennett's had to no longer be a witch. It would sever the line, and force her to stop her spell as she lost the additional power she needed. Just when I thought I wasn't being kept in the dark any longer, I was pulled straight back in. He lied to me when I asked if anything else happened that night. He lied straight to my face.
With Caroline gone for the past few days, It made it easy for me to return home and gather some of my things to bring back to the mansion with me. Mom was at work when I returned home yesterday, typical. I made sure to let her know each morning that I was alive and kicking so she wouldn't worry too much. She understood why I wanted some time away from the house. She thought it would be good for us all to have some time apart after everything that's come out.
Truth be told, I just couldn't be in her company for longer than needed. I still needed time to think things over, come to terms with things and how my life has changed forever now. Loosing my dad just threw another spanner into the works. I still had things to ask him, things I needed answers too, but he was gone.
I had mostly kept to myself in the Mansion as I was pissed at Klaus for keeping something like that from me. Not to mention the fact that when we did pass by one another in the hallway or staircase, It was just awkward. Ever since Rebekah interrupted the moment we shared in the parlour, things were just tense between us. So he kept to himself and I kept to myself as the days went by. Not once did he tell me to leave though.
He's been occupied ever since his sister informed him about the White Oak tree, and what it could mean for their whole family. He spent his time in the study, trying to figure out what had become of the mystery tree. Rebekah on the other hand, she was doing the foot work after finding out that it was The Salvatore's that owned the logging mills back in that time period. So they had to know something, and she was determined to find out what.
If Klaus had something to tell me, he'd send Daniel, one of the housekeeper to relay the message on his behalf. I was always disappointed when I opened my room door to see Daniel instead of Klaus, but this morning was different. I woke to the gentle knock at my door, and when I opened it, I was surprised to see Klaus standing in the hallway. He informed me that he was making a trip with Rebekah to find his elder brother, Finn. He thought that he'd found a way to un-link all the siblings. But of course, he didn't tell me much more than that. Only to call if I needed him.
He gave me a small smile before leaving down the hallway as I closed the door softly. I smiled as I knew he still cared for me.
Why else would he tell me to call if I needed him?
After I showered and changed into my own clothes, my phone buzzed loudly from the dresser as Elena's name flashed on the screen. It was a little after twelve in the afternoon when she called to ask me to meet her in the woods. She had some news that involved the death of my father. Even though I was a little tense about seeing her right now, I couldn't miss this opportunity to hear what she had to say.
I grabbed my jacket and made my way down stairs and outside to the courtyard. I glanced fleetingly at the empty space beside my car as Klaus' black SUV was gone. I couldn't think about him right now, I had much more pressing issues to deal with, and I wasn't looking forward to hearing what Elena had to say. In my gut, I knew it wasn't going to be good news.
I took a deep breath before climbing out of the car. I had parked in front of the Salvatores house in the driveway as Elena was in the woods behind. Strange, but I shrugged it off as nothing unfamiliar or out of the ordinary. Taking one last look in the side mirror, I fixed my scarf around my neck before I began to trek through the woods. I spotted Elena a few yards in front as I edged closer to her position. Caroline made herself known as she rounded the tree up ahead. I wasn't surprised that she was here, It was her father, too. So whatever we had between us, it had to be put aside for the meantime.
"So, what did I have to come out to the woods for?" I sighed as I joined them.
"I needed you both here," She gazed between us. Swallowing hard before she continued, "I know who killed your father."
My mouth fell open at what she had to say.
Alaric Saltzman, had killed our father.
The Gilbert ring he wore to protect himself from supernatural beings had started to affect him in ways no one could have imagined. She told us that the same thing had happened to her ancestor, Samantha Gilbert, many, many years ago. And it was now happening to him.
I can't lie and say that I was okay with it all, because I wasn't.
"Alaric Saltzman killed our father?" Caroline gasped.
"I-I can't believe it." I lowered my head as we began walking.
"I can't expect you to be okay with this," Elena glanced between us, "But at least these herbs that Bonnie's giving him, they're healing him and they're keeping the dark side buried."
I scoffed, "How does some magic herbs make this okay!?" I stopped walking and stood in front of Elena and Caroline. The tears were beginning to gather in the corner of my eyes. "He killed our dad."
The down-drawn corners of Caroline's lips began to tremble as she looked at me.
"No, Jess, It's not okay." Elena reached out and grabbed my arms. "It's horrible and I feel horrible about it, but he's a victim of something supernatural. He didn't ask for this, it just happened to him. Just like Bonnie's mom, I mean, she didn't ask to become a vampire. And neither did Stefan, or Tyler."
"Or us." Caroline added with a weak smile.
She was damn right about that. I didn't ask for this curse, and she never asked to become a vampire but It still didn't lessen the pain of it all.
"None of you asked for this, but who would I be if I just turned my back on any of you?" Elena smiled.
Caroline walked in between us and looped her arm with ours as we began walking again.
"Oh, Elena Gilbert, saviour of the cursed and the damned." Caroline laughed lightly.
I smiled as Elena gave my arm a tight, reassuring squeeze.
A moment later, Matt appeared in front of us. "Hey," He smiled, "What's with the cryptic secret meeting text?"
I frowned as I had no idea what he was talking about.
I didn't get any message?
"What text?" I asked as I glazed at all three of them.
"I don't know," Elena shrugged, "Stefan just said to meet here. That's why I asked you to come here." She looked at me in confusion, "You didn't get a text?"
Just as I opened my mouth to say 'no', Damon and Stefan arrived with a duffel bag in hand. Damon's eyes were instantly on me as I clenched my jaw. He hadn't told anyone what he knew, not yet anyway. Otherwise that would have been the first thing Elena and Caroline would have said when I arrived.
"What is she doing here?" Damon took one look at me and narrowed his eyes as he came to a stop a few feet away.
"I asked her to come?" Elena cocked her head in confusion.
"Leave. Now." Damon commanded and I narrowed my eyes.
"What?" I asked with a tight-lipped laugh.
"You heard me, blondie." Damon raised his eyebrow, "Scram, before I make you."
I curled my fingers up into my palms, making fists as we eyed each other. Neither one of us backing down.
Here he was once again, threatening me.
"What's in the bag?" I asked as I looked down at Stefan's feet as he dropped the duffel onto the ground. My suspicions aroused even more as I heard the items inside bang together.
A whoosh of air surrounded me instantly, and before I had time to react. Damon's arm wrapped around my waist as the other constricted my windpipe.
I shot my arms up to his hand and tried to pull it free from my neck, as his grip tightened. "Dam-" My world became black as my eyes began to see stars and lights floating in the air. I didn't even manage to say his name completely before my world went blank.
I woke in the woods a while later. I don't know how long I was out but when I woke, I was alone. Laying on the woodland floor in the same spot I was stood in earlier. It was still light, so I couldn't have been out that long. I got to my feet as I rubbed the area around my neck as it burned.
"Mother fucker!" I groaned and looked around.
No one was here, not even my sister. I done a 360 turn, looking to see if anyone was in the distance, but I was alone. Once again, I was thrust back into the darkness. Un-trusted and left out of whatever was going one once more. I rotated my neck, easing off the muscles as they began to tighten. I picked my phone up from the ground and placed it back into my pocket before heading back to my car.
I was seething.
How could they do that to me? How could Care do that to me?
I pulled up into the driveway at the Mansion no more than 15 minutes later after leaving the woods. As I arrived, I was too lost in my own bubble to notice that Klaus' SUV was parked in its usual spot as I climbed out of my car and slammed the door. The glass shook on the window as I hit the button to lock it. I made my way up the stairs at the front of the house, blabbing to myself as I swung the doors open and entered.
"Son-of-a-bitch," I mumbled as I entered the foyer, "Wait till I get my hands on you." I was looking at the floor the whole way in as I frantically wiped at the mud that was stuck on my jeans.
I snapped my head the the right as I heard giggling coming from the staircase. I was surprised when I seen Finn standing there with a woman I had not met before. They were embracing each other, laughing and cuddling as I stared in confusion.
"What did that poor door ever do to you?" Rebekah said, catching me off guard. I turned to the left to see Rebekah and Klaus staring back at me, amused and a little confused as I froze on the spot.
"Ohh," I smiled awkwardly, "You're back."
Klaus' eyes narrowed as he looked me up and down. I was dishevelled with mud on my clothes and some leafs in my hair. I looked like I had been pulled though a hedge multiple times.
"What happened?" He asked as he whooshed over to me. His hand instantly reached out and moved the hair from my face as he placed his phone back into his pocket.
"Nothing." I replied quickly.
"Do not lie to me, Jessica." He hummed quietly.
My gaze flickered between his eyes.
He wasn't really one to be giving the lying speech. Especially not to me.
"I was in the woods with Elena." I said as he gazed at me. Wondering wither or not I was telling him the truth.
"Why?"
"She had news about the death of my father." I told him, "It was Alaric."
He nodded his head, "Ahh, yes, the history teacher who loaned me his body for a while." He smiled as he thought back. "You know," He whispered lowly for just me to hear, "I still remember meeting you in that hallway at the start of the year." A small smile broke out on my face as I remembered back to that moment, too. Klaus raised his hand and tugged it through my hair, pulling out a leaf as he looked back at me. "That still doesn't explain the mess you are in, love."
I sighed, "Let's just say, things took a complicated turn."
"With the doppelganger?"
I clenched my jaw as I spoke his name, "Damon."
Klaus' lips pressed into a fine-line. "What did he do to you?"
I thought over my next words carefully as I didn't want him going on a rampage.
"Nothing I can't handle." I gave him a reassuring smile. I tried to reassure him the best I could, but I could tell by the look in his eyes that it wasn't good enough.
Flecks of gold scattered within them as his jaw clenched.
"Hey," I placed my hand on his cheek, drawing his attention back to me. "Don't worry about it. I'm fine." He let out a slow breath as he calmed down at my touch.
It was in that moment that I remembered back to the woods. The duffel bag that Stefan had dropped to the ground with the items inside that clashed together. Not to mention the snapping of my neck, and the uneasiness in Damon's eyes as he saw me there.
I had been pushed and pulled in so many directions since being back. My friends pushed me away, as the man I...I cared about pulled me closer. I had to tell him about my suspicions. I just had to make him aware.
I cleared my throat and placed my hand back down to my side. "There's, uh...Something I think you need to know."
"Do tell." Klaus said as he continued pulling leaves from my hair.
"When I was there, in the woods. Damon and Stefan arrived and they were being all secretive and awkward around me." I informed him.
Rebekah walked up beside her brother and scoffed, "Of course they were. Why would they risk telling you anything if they thought you would just come back here and spill the beans." I nodded as a slight pang of guilt waved through my body as I began to second guess what I was about to do as Rebekah continued to speak, "Well, come on then, what do you know?" She asked in urgency.
"That's the thing. I don't know anything." I sighed and looked between the siblings. "I barely got two words out before he choked-" My lips slammed shut as my eyes widened.
"He what!?" Klaus hissed as his eyes darkened.
I placed my open palm on his chest, "I'm fine. I swear." The touch of my hand calmed his inner rage as he slowly loosened his jaw.
"I can't say the same from Damon Salvatore the next time I see him." Klaus said as he gritted his teeth.
I was surprised to see just how much Klaus cared for me. How protective he was.
My cheeks dimpled as I looked up at him, my hand still on his chest.
"As enlightening as this conversation has been," Rebekah groaned, bored. "I have something to do. Nik, what do you need from me for this spell?"
Klaus turned his head towards Rebekah, "Just your blood and your blessing. Where are you going?"
She eyed me sceptically before a smirk appeared on her lips. "I have some unfinished business with Damon Salvatore, would you believe it." I smiled back at her as she continued, "Ask Sage what he did to me. Then you'll understand why retribution is in order. I might even get some for you, sweetie."
Rebekah gave Finn and the woman on the staircase a fleeting gaze as she left the Mansion. One some level I was happy Damon was going to get a little payback for the shit he has been putting me through, though I couldn't imagine what an Original vampire had in store. Damon even wronged Rebekah, so I'm sure it wasn't going to be good.
Ehh, his own fault.
Klaus looked at his older brother and Sage on the staircase before he took my hand.
"Are you sure you're alright?" He asked in a soothing tone.
I took a sharp inhale, "Yeah, I'll be fine once I shower." Klaus' cheeks turned a shade of crimson as he looked over me once more. I blushed a little myself under his heated gaze before clearing my throat. "Uhh, I'm just going to head upstairs."
"Of course." Klaus released my hand slowly.
I didn't have to look back to know he was watching me as I walked away.
A while later in the bedroom. I got out of the shower and brushed trough my damp hair before I changed into a pair of leggings and loose-fitting shirt. Looking in the mirror as I wiped my face, my phone buzzed lightly beside me, gaining my attention. Stefan's name appeared on the screen as it lit-up. I snorted and shook my head before I pressed the red button, silencing the annoying tune instantly.
"Not happening." I groaned and rolled my eyes as I got to my feet.
I walked out of my room into the hallway and headed left. The light coming from Klaus' study drew my attention as I followed it. Once I was outside of the slightly cracked door, I pushed it open and gasped at what I saw.
"Bonnie?" My brows knitted together as she faced me.
"Jess!" She gasped at my sudden appearance.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I rushed over to her and kneeled on the floor.
"Klaus..." She sighed in anguish, "He brought me here to cast an un-linking spell." I narrowed my eyes, as once again, I was in the dark. "Why are you still here, Jess?" I looked back towards Bonnie as she held my hand in hers.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Here. As in with them." I slipped my hands out of her grasp and took a seat on the table beside a large, leather book.
"I-It's hard to explain, Bon."
"Are you with Klaus?" She asked in a shaky tone.
I smiled slightly, "It's complicated."
"How is it complicated, Jess." Bonnie leaned forward in the chair as she scowled at me. "You've seen what he's like. What he's done to all of us. To you!"
"What about what Damon?" I shot back. "Constantly manipulating me. Using me when he needs something done." I sighed in frustration, "Not to mention using you, Bonnie." Bonnie stared back at me wide-eyed, "Damon killed your mom. How is he any less of a bad guy?"
I could see that I struck a nerve at the mention of her mom, but I knew I was right. Damon had done some truly horrific things to her, but Bonnie was always there when called.
"Klaus is different around me, Bonnie." I sighed deeply. Hoping that she would understand, even just a little bit. "I can't change what I feel for him." Bonnie just stared at me blankly, "Believe me, Bonnie. I've tried." I laughed lightly, "I've really tried, but I can't just ignore the feelings I have."
"I don't know what to say." She replied. Her head hanging low.
"I'm sorry he's keeping you here against your will." I apologised on his behalf. "Can you do the spell?"
She thought it over before replying. "It's a tricky spell, Jess. I don't know if I can."
I stood from the coffee table and took a seat beside her on the chair. Gently bumping my shoulder with hers, I managed to get a small smile from her as she reached for the book and placed it in her lap.
"I'm sorry about your mom." I whispered lowly and took her hand. She gave me a small, thankful smile. "Elena told me about Alaric today." I dropped my head as I informed her.
"I'm sorry, too." She replied and gently squeezed my hand.
"Thank you, for trying to help Alaric."
"Have you cleared the air with Caroline?" She wondered.
I bit my lower lip, "I thought we had. She was there when Elena told me about Alaric. Then when Damon knocked me out and I was left in the woods alone."
"Oh, my god!" She gasped. "I didn't know, I'm sorry."
"It's fine." I said quietly. "I thought that maybe she would have stayed there until I woke up, or she could have at least moved me to my car."
"She's really sorry about what happened in the house." Bonnie smiled sheepishly, "She told me about it when she was helping me with my mom. She regrets what she said."
"It doesn't change what she has done."
I fixed my gaze straight ahead as we fell into silence.
"Tick-tock. I should hear chanting by now." Klaus' dominating voice rung throughout the room as he entered. He stopped a few feet away as I rose to my feet and stared at him. "Jessica, love," He smiled in surprise. "What are you doing in here?"
I scoffed, "How could you not tell me that Bonnie was here!?"
"She's helping me do a little spell," He looked towards Bonnie, "Isn't that right, love?"
Bonnie remained silent.
"You could have told me, Klaus." I crossed my arms across my chest as he neared.
"Don't be upset, sweetheart." He cooed, "I didn't want you to worry."
"She's my friend, Klaus. Of course I'm going to worry."
Klaus leaned in towards me and lowered his tone. "I understand." He said softly, "I should have told you earlier, but you were in quite a state."
I rolled my eyes and gently pushed him back, causing him to smirk as he stumbled.
"Can you do the spell, Bonnie?" I asked as I turned to face her.
She looked between Klaus and I before gazing back at the book. "I'm still studying the spell. It's not easy, especially under duress." She said, drawing her eyes off of Klaus as he rounded the chair and stood behind her.
"Take your time," I smiled at her and she nodded her head, "There's not rush, right, Klaus?" I crossed my arms once more as I stared at him. A glint of playfulness flashed inside of his eyes as he held his hands in the air.
"Of course." He flashed me a smiled, "Jessica, love. Would you give me and your little friend a moment to chat alone?"
I looked between them as Bonnie stared back at me, worry splashed across her face about being left along with the hybrid once again. I gave her a reassuring smile. "Sure...Just don't rush her." I warned him once more.
"You have my word." Klaus said.
I was nervous to leave Bonnie alone with Klaus, but I was putting my trust in him once again. As I walked along the hallway back to my room, the sound of groaning caught my ear coming from the room downstairs. Against my better judgement, I made my way downstairs to investigate. When I got to the ballroom where the noises were coming from, I pushed the door open slowly and gasped loudly.
As I walked further into the room, I was over whelmed with curiosity and horror at the sighed before me. In the centre of the room hung Damon. He was held up by two bear traps that dangled from chains on ceiling. His shirt was opened and his chest was covered in nasty gashes, as were his wrists. I could hear the faint thumping of his heart as I neared. He was hanging limply, the bear traps digging deeper with each movement he made.
"Damon?" I said cautiously. I reached my hand out to touch him as a voice from behind startled me.
"Come to join the fun?" Rebekah said.
I spun around on the spot, "Jesus, Rebekah," My heart was thumping loudly inside my chest, "You scared the shit out of me!"
She grinned, "You know, you're not very aware of your surroundings."
I rolled my eyes at her comment and looked back at Damon as he groaned in pain. "Why are you doing this?" I asked and gestured up at Damon.
Rebekah shrugged, "Well, he hurt me, so I'm getting a little payback of my own." She grinned as she looked up at his blood, drenched body. "You wanted payback as well, did you not?"
I sighed and arched a brow, "Yeah, but not like this!" I walked closer to her, "I meant snap his neck or something like that. Not full-blown torture." I waved my hand in his direction. The more I looked at Damon, the more he mumbled. "What's he doing?" I asked her.
"I've gave him a little daydream." I eyed her, confused as to what she meant by 'daydream'. Noticing my confusion, Rebekah explained it to me. "My brothers and I can induce dreams in anyone. We can see memories, and share our own if we want too."
I instantly swallowed.
Had Klaus done that to me before?
"H-How do you know if someone has done it to you?" I asked, my voice slightly trembling at the thought of having my thoughts invaded.
"Don't threat, sweetie." Rebekah grinned, "I highly doubt anyone has been inside of your pretty, little head."
I didn't know wither or not to take that as a compliment or an insult.
"When will he wake up?" I asked as I walked around him.
"Right...about...now."
Damon's eyes opened slowly, one after the other as he groaned. "Uh, you bitch."
"It's not fun when someone messes with your thoughts, is it?" Rebekah said in an angered tone.
Damon laughed slightly before wincing in pain. "Actually, I was having a pretty good time in there."
As I walked around his hanging body, I stopped beside Rebekah in front of him and his eyes instantly fell upon me.
"Jess?" He whispered. "What are you doing here?"
"She's joining the fun." Rebekah smiled.
"Ahh, I knocked you out this afternoon, right." Damon groaned, "You're still mad about that?"
I frowned, "Hell yeah, I'm still mad about that!" I hissed. "Why the hell did you do that?"
He smirked slightly, "Couldn't have you running back to your hybrid lover, and telling him everything."
My cheeks burned at the word 'lover' as I looked at him in disgust.
"I was your friend, Damon." I said and he looked at me through glazed eyes. "You don't exactly have many of those to spare."
"Mmm," Rebekah moaned from beside me, "Well I hope you were nicer to Elena than you were to us."
Damon chuckled softly, "Oh, come on, I couldn't have hurt you that bad," He looked at the original, "You didn't really think I had a thing for you, did you?" Rebekah looked saddened by his words as she clutched the knife in her hands tighter. "I get it, if Klaus bossed me around for a thousand years, I'd probably be pretty desperate for attention too."
In the blink of an eye, Rebekah flashed over to Damon and drove the knife into his stomach. He released a loud shriek that echoed in the empty ballroom.
I winced once the knife was removed and the blood began to seep out.
"That was uncalled for, Damon." I scalded him.
"What?" He coughed as Rebekah stepped back and wiped the knife on a cloth as she looked up at him. "You're just pissed at me because now you know who you really are, Jessie."
My eyes widened, "Shut up, Damon."
He smirked, "Scared I'll tell your new family?"
Rebekah shifted beside me, and I could tell she was intrigued by what Damon had said.
I dug my nails into my palms once again as my hands shook slightly.
"I'm sure they'll find out eventually." He smirked weakly.
"What is he talking about, Jessica?" Rebekah looked at me. My lips parted slightly as my fight or flight was beginning to kick in. My eyes flicked between Damon and Bekah before she clapped her hands in my face. "Jessica?"
"Nothing," I replied quickly, "He's delusional. You've drained so much blood from him, he doesn't know what he's talking about anymore." I tried to throw her off the scent, but she wasn't buying it at all as she looked at Damon.
"Damon?" She walked closer to him and he lifted his head slightly to meet her gaze, "What are you talking about?" Rebekah asked and crossed her arms, "And do remember, once I've rid your body of vervain, I will compel the answer out of you either way."
Another smirk came to his lips as he looked over her shoulder at me. I shook my head, warning him to keep his mouth shut, or at least tell her something else. Anything but the truth.
"S-She doesn't w-want anyone to know-" He mumbled.
"Damon, shut up!" I yelled louder to drown out his voice. Once again, the echo ricocheted around the room. "Rebekah, leave it." She turned her hear to face me as my eyes began to swell, "Please!"
"That-s-she's a werewolf..."
Rebekah faced me as a single tear rolled down my cheek.
"Well, I'll be damned." She smirked and walked over to me, "I'd have never guessed that you, of all people would be a werewolf."
I wiped the tear from my face quickly, "I'm not, he's lying!"
Rebekah shook her head slowly, "Sweetie," she cooed and pushed my hair back, "The look on your face, and the fear in your voice tells me different."
I felt the blood drip from my finger tips as I opened my palms before I turned to face Damon.
"I hate you." I hissed through clenched teeth.
He groaned as he pulled against the restraints, "You'll get over it. Just like you got over the fact that your mom and dad lied to you." He sighed before hanging his head once more.
As Rebekah stood back and watched, I couldn't contain my anger any longer. I rushed over to her, snatched the knife from her hand before driving it into Damon's abdomen. He yelled in pain, but I could no longer hear him. All I could hear was the blood pumping in my ears and the warmth on my skin. I pulled the knife out and took a deep breath as I watched the blood drip from the metal onto the floor.
"I-" I opened my mouth to speak, but the sudden gasp from Bonnie drew my attention.
I turned around quickly to face Bonnie as she stared into the ballroom, shocked to see Damon bleeding from the chains.
My mouth hung open as I stared back in fear. The knife slipped from my grasp as Klaus, Rebekah and Bonnie looked at me. Their faces all told a different story. Klaus smirked as my chest heaved as he watched me. "Go on, help him." Klaus said as Bonnie's hands trembled, "Save the man who turned your mother into a vampire."
Bonnie glanced into the room before looking at me. My mouth was agape, I didn't know what to do or say to her.
"Just get me out of here." Bonnie finally said and Klaus smiled.
"Very well." He placed a hand on her back and began to walk towards the front door before he turned and faced me. "Do not leave this house." I nodded as I watched him take Bonnie outside.
I walked up to him slowly, as he lifted his head to look at me.
"Why?" I asked in a low, broken tone, "Why did you do this to me, Damon?"
His breathing was laboured as he cleared his throat. "Everyone would have found out sooner or later, Jess."
"How did you even find out?"
He smirked, "Caroline told Elena, who told Stefan, who told me."
The rage I felt towards Caroline was unmatched.
She had no right to tell anyone about my personal life. I didn't want anyone to know, it was my story to tell. The only one I felt comfortable with knowing was Tyler, he was as much a part of the secret as I was. He was just another person kept in the dark for too long.
"What have I ever done to you!" I cried out as the tears began to shed. "All I've ever done is help you. When you call, I'm there! When you needed something...I was there! All I've ever done since coming home is help you and your brother out of shit, and this is how you return the favour? Threatening me. Using me to get your way when things don't work out."
"I-I'm sorry."
I looked up at him through blurred eyes.
I took a sharp inhale and cooled my rage. "I'm sorry you're here." I whispered and wiped away the tears from my cheeks, "If I had known this was her plan, I-I would have told you."
"Don't" He sighed, "Don't you dare blame yourself. I caused this. Me."
I walked to the side of the room and slid down the wall until I was seated on the ground. I hugged my knees as Damon pulled against the chains once more and groaned in pain.
"Fancy helping me out of these?" Damon asked.
I looked towards the door, Rebekah was no where to be seen and Klaus must have been outside with Bonnie still. I couldn't look at Damon hanging there any longer. So I got to my feet and approached the traps and gave them a once over.
"I don't know how to open these." I said as I tugged at the metal.
"Oww!" He hissed breathlessly.
"Sorry!"
I continued to try and release his wrist from the vicious traps. His body was beaded with sweat as he tried to keep his eyes open.
"Damon?" I said in a hushed tone.
"Hmm?"
"Please don't tell anyone else." I pleaded with him. "Not yet."
"Jess...Everyone else knows," Damon groaned as I pulled on the metal once more. "Caroline told Elena the day after you found out, then she told us."
"I'm going to kill her!" I hissed and yanked on the chains roughly.
"S-she cares about you." Damon sighed, "She was in pieces when she told Elena about you. How y-your dad's not your real dad."
"He was my dad." I snapped, "He raised me. He cared for me. I might not be his blood daughter, but I'm still his."
"I'm not saying that," He groaned, "All I'm saying is, is that you have to accept it. Accept who you are and you'll be alright."
"I seem to remember you saying that all werewolves deserve to die." I reminded him. "Did you not?" He nodded his head slowly, "I don't want to accept the fact that one day, I might trigger the curse. That I might kill someone unintentionally and I won't even fully understand what happened. I'm terrified."
I groaned loudly and ran my hands down my face as I turned around.
I couldn't accept it. I didn't want to trigger the curse. I don't want to hurt someone.
I was taken aback to see Stefan standing by the door, his face filled with sympathy as he stared at me. The duffel bag from earlier hung loosely in his hand.
"Stefan..." I murmured.
Before I could say another word, he called out. "Klaus, I'm here!" I quickly moved away from Damon as Klaus and Rebekah entered the room behind him him. "Let's do this."
He released a loud sigh, "Oh good, a hero. What do you want?" Klaus exhibited a smile that sent chills down my spine.
Stefan dropped the duffel bad on the ground at Klaus' feet. "I'm here to make a deal."
"Stefan..." Damon groaned, "What are you doing?"
"Eight stakes made of White Oak. The last part of Wickery Bridge that you forgot to burn." Stefan said as he looked at Rebekah.
Klaus turned to face his sister, scowling as she met his gaze.
"That's impossible." She gasped.
"Actually it's not. Finn is dead." Stefan announced to the room.
"You killed my brother?" Rebekah hissed as her jaw clenched as Klaus stared back in shock.
"Damon in exchange for the last eight weapons that can kill you." Stefan said as he looked at the hybrid.
I narrowed my eyes, "Is that what yous were doing in the woods today?" I said in shock.
"Not now, love." Klaus silenced me with a glare before turning his attention back to the youngest Salvatore. "How do I know there aren't any more left?"
"Because there aren't." He replied quickly.
Too quickly.
"Let's be certain, shall we?" Klaus whispered. He walked around Stefan and over to Damon. "Leave."
"No." Damon refused.
"Go on. Leave." Klaus told him once more.
Rebekah groaned, "Nik, he's my play thing, not yours."
The room fell silent as Klaus clamped his hand around Damon's neck and began to compel him. I jumped in shock.
"I said, go home."
My skin crawled as I saw the pleasure on Klaus' face as Damon pulled against the restraints. The blood began to pool on top of the plastic sheet that covered the floor below once more as it ran down his arms and I winced as Damon's cries filled the room. I looked at Stefan as he swallowed and shut his eyes as his brother struggled. Then Klaus made the screaming stop.
"Alright, stop, stop, stop, before you hurt yourself." He grinned, "Well, seeing that he can finally be compelled. Now," He grabbed his throat once more, "Minus the stake that's in my brother, how many more stakes are out there that can kill me?"
"Eleven." Damon answered slowly.
"Eleven! Really? So, not eight then." Klaus turned to face a frustrated Stefan.
"You really shouldn't have lied." Rebekah shook her head at Stefan.
"I'll get you the other three." He sighed.
"Yeah, that would be nice," Klaus grinned, but I knew that he was seething below the surface. "Or since you lied, maybe I'll just compel your brother to chew out his own tongue." He spat.
In that moment, I wanted to be anywhere but right here. This was the side Bonnie was talking about earlier, the side that I had yet to see. I hated seeing him this way, dishing out vulgar and horrific threats to people I cared about. It made my skin crawl, but somewhere deep down, all I could see is the Klaus who showed me his art, the person who held me tight as we dance in this very room.
I snapped from my thoughts as Stefan yelled, "What is wrong with you!?"
I flinched as Klaus raised his voice, "What is wrong with you!? Do you really have no appreciation for me? I have given you someone to hate, to loathe, a target for all of your anger; so you don't have to turn it on yourself. I have given your life purpose, as your friend." He laughed wickedly, "I really think you should be thanking me."
Stefan released a feral growl and charged at Klaus, pinning him against the wall, a White Oak stake raised in the air. I clamped a hand over my mouth to silence the sudden scream that escaped unexpectedly.
Klaus grabbed his wrist, pushing back against his strength. "Step down, or you both die." He warned in a low, firm voice.
Stefan slowly surrendered the White Oak stake and backed away.
"There," Klaus smirked, "Now you only have to get me the other two."
"This is ridiculous," Rebekah finally grew tired of the situation as she strutted over to Damon and released him from the bear traps.
He collapsed to his knees with a thud.
"What are you doing?" Klaus asked his sister.
She shrugged, "I brought him here. I get to release him. My rules now." She briefly paused and turned to Stefan, "Bring us the stakes and you both live. Take your brother as a sign of good faith." Rebekah reached down and collected the bag from the ground and began to leave the ballroom. I wanted to walk after her but my feet were frozen in the spot where I stood.
Klaus walked over to Stefan and lowered his voice, "Bring us the stakes. All of them. Or I will wage a war against everyone you love." He warned bitterly, "I hope I'm being clear."
He began to walk past Stefan before calling my name. I jumped and faced him as he stood in the doorway. "Come," He said calmly. I looked over at Stefan and Damon as the both looked at me, concern clouding their faces. "Now." Klaus' voice lowered as he glared at me through narrowed eyes.
I dipped my head and forced myself to walk in his direction. Stefan flashed before me and grabbed my wrist.
"You don't have to stay her, Jess." He said in a pleading tone, "Come back with us."
I looked over his shoulder to see Klaus watching from the doorway.
I knew he wouldn't hurt me. I also know that there was no way in hell that he was letting me leave this house without talking to him first.
I pulled my wrist from Stefan's grip and placed my arms around his neck as I pulled him into a hug. His hands slowly moved around my waist. I never once broke the eye contact Klaus had me trapped in as I spoke. "I'll be okay," He squeezed me tighter, "Just get out of here and get home safe. Both of you." He was reluctant to release me from his grip as I pulled away and gave him a small smile.
He nodded his head before rushing over to Damon and fleeing the Mansion.
All that was left was Klaus and I as we stared at each other.
"Let's go." He said as he motioned his head in the other direction.
I made my way across the room to him, as he tried to grasp my hand but I pulled it back as walked past him and jogged up the stairs.
As I sat on the sofa, hugging my knees into my chest. Klaus and Rebekah spoke by the fire about their deceased brother.
"I can't believe Finn is dead." Rebekah sighed sadly.
"Good riddance," Klaus said as he stood beside a table of candles. "He was an embarrassment, Rebekah."
She scowled as she turned to face him. "He was still your brother. Mind your tongue."
"Fine. Let's all say a prayer for Finn, who slept in a box longer than he lived as a man," He dryly replied. "He was a lovesick fool. He's better off in death."
Rebekah looked at her brother in disgust, as did I.
"Is that how you would speak of me if I died?" She asked disconcertingly.
He thought it over for a moment before replying. "Well, you let the Salvatores loose with two stakes that can kill us, so I guess we'll find out soon enough." His tone was blank, there was no emotion behind anything he said anymore. "And since when did you have a soft spot for them?"
She sniggered, "The Salvatores may fight like dogs, but at the end they would die for each other. At least they know what family means." She spat. "You destroyed ours."
He looked up from the table to face her, "I wanted a family. They just didn't want me, and now we're un-linked, we're no longer responsible for each other."
As much as I fought against the feeling. I felt sympathy for him at the words he chose to use. It was one of my deepest fears, to not be loved. To be turned away by the people that you loved the most.
"So are you leaving." Rebekah asked, but deep down, she already knew the answer. It was written on her face.
"As soon as I get my stakes, I'm gone." He told her, "I'm gonna take my girl and Elena. I'll use her blood to create a new family." Klaus smiled slightly, "Of hybrids."
"And if I chose to stay?" Rebekah said in a shaky voice.
"Then you're just as pathetic as Finn."
I couldn't take it anymore. Listening to him speak the way he did was angering me. So I pushed myself off the sofa and ran out of the room, fleeing down the hallway into my room, slamming the door behind.
This wasn't the man that I lo...
There was a subtle knock at the door and I knew instantly who it was from the pattern of the knock.
"Go away." I said as I sat on the seat by the window.
I was thankful for the hearing vampires had as I didn't want to raise my voice anymore tonight. I feared that if I yelled anymore, my voice would fade away.
The handle slowly lowered and the door opened as Klaus walked inside. I rolled my eyes and diverted my gaze from him to stare out of the window.
"Jessica-" He spoke softly.
"Don't." I cut him off sharply as I snapped round to face him, "Just...Don't, Klaus."
He crossed the room and took a seat on the bed across from me. His hands rested on his thighs as he shifted them back and forth.
"I'm sorry you had to see that." He once again spoke softly.
"Which part, exactly?" I snapped. "The part where you inflicted unnecessary pain on Damon? The part where you enjoyed it?" I smirked as I shook my head in disappointment, "Or how about the part where you threatened everyone I love? My sister, Klaus!"
"Believe me when I say, no harm will come to your family." He reached out and grasped my hand, "You have my word."
I didn't pull my hand away as I stared at him blankly. "I don't recognise the person I saw tonight." He lowered his head, almost ashamed as I continued, "My friends warned me, my sister warned me just how dark you could be." His gaze flickered up to me briefly, his eyes slightly swollen as he looked at me longingly. "I chose to ignore them. I chose to see the man that danced with me in the ballroom, that held me tightly. The man that showed me his passion."
"Jess-" Klaus began to speak, but I cut him off quickly.
"No, I'm not finished." His lips parted as I turned in the seat to face him head on. "Then I remembered what you said to me, that everyone has darkness in them." I smiled briefly, "I never expected to see that side of you, but in a way, I'm glad I did because now I know what you're capable of."
His hand gripped mine tighter as I paused for a moment. His eyes were searching mine, looking for something.
"I know it's better to realise now, rather than later." Klaus narrowed his eyes, "I care about you, Klaus. I really care about you, but I need to let what happened tonight sink in."
His lips perked up at the corners. "I care about you, too, sweetheart." Klaus tugged me gently and pulled me over towards the bed. I took a seat beside him as he turned to face me, his leg lifting to rest on the mattress.
"I need time..." I whispered as he brushed his fingers across my face and pushed a strand of hair behind my ear.
"I'll give you time." He said lowly, tracing his fingers down my cheek. Klaus brushed his finger through my hair, tugging my head upwards as he rose from the bed to stand in front of me. I looked up at him, his hand still entwined in my locks as he glared down at me.
"You should get some rest. You've had quite the day."
I smiled and gently dipped my head as he leaned in and placed a delicate kiss on my forehead.
From violent to gentle in the matter hours. I knew deep down that if what I was feeling was real, I'd have to accept both sides of him. I had to accept Klaus as a whole.
"Goodnight, love." He said before heading to the door.
His hand rested on the handle as I called his name and he looked back.
"I-I'm sorry about your brother." I said in a whisper.
He smiled, "Thank you."
Hope you enjoyed.
