Chapter Seven: The Dark Days are Finally Over

MAX'S POV

I haven't been myself for two years. Each day is spent locked in my own mind which is controlled by Jeb. Why couldn't it be that while I don't have control, I don't remember what happens?

Except, it seems like Jeb wants me to remember. Wants me to feel like it's my fault. I know it isn't my fault that he has had me kill hundreds of failed mutants but I can't help but feel guilty.

Unfortunately, it is that guilt that Jeb is looking for.

I'm locked in my room, my arms and feet chained to the bed when the alarms go off. I cover my face best I can as the red lights flicker and the sound rings in my ears. I groan, trying to fall asleep after the rough night I had.

For the first time in several weeks, I have my own brain back under my control. It feels great but also weird. At this point, it's foreign being in control. It's a weird sensation to be able to control my own limbs that I spend hours just in awe, testing out my body.

The alarms only seem to get louder as I squeeze my eyes shut and roll into a little ball.

There's several bangs and I open my eyes, staring at the door. It bursts open, the door flying towards me and dust fills the air. The door slams into me, thrusting me backwards. I scream as I hit the wall, the door up against me and the chains cutting into my flesh as the bed leans at an awkward angle.

There are voices talking and shuffling in the room as I cry. I feel blood run down my face and every single bone in my body hurts.

I feel relief when the door is pushed off to the side. In front of me is a room full of military soldiers staring at me with concern.

"What the hell is going on in there?" I hear a shout from the hall. The guys who removed the door from me glances nervously at the others before looking into the hall.

"Admiral, I think you'd like to see this!" One of them shouts. I'm starting to get dizzy from the blood loss and it takes everything in me not to black out. A man in a perfectly ironed uniform and a shit ton of metals walks into the room and freezes when his eyes land on me and the state I'm in.

The last thing I hear before blacking out is "shit" and I'd have to agree.
