"Okay, can someone tell me what the hell is going on?!" Burnin asked out as she stared at the picture on the board, seeing herself circled. "There a reason why this chick has a picture of me on her?"
"It's not just you…" Katara added, seeing an "X" drawn over herself. "Who is she?"
"What else has she said?" Endeavor asked, looking back to Shishido.
"Nothing really. Other than her name, or codename, she has been keeping quiet. And I figured to wait until you were here." Shishido responded, turning at the sound of Mirko's tapping foot. "And you as well."
Bakugo turned to the rabbit hero curiously, seeing her almost ready to pounce through the glass at any moment. "Why the hell are you all jittery? Why did he call-
"Kid…" Mirko muttered out, her voice lacking any of her usual sarcastic tone. "If there were any time for you to shut up… now is that time."
Bakugo's eyebrow twitched at the warning she gave, but from the intense gaze she sent his way, he wasn't willing to test her patience. Turning back to the glass, Mirko's grin grew as her fist tightened. "I'll make the bitch talk."
"We will make her talk," Endeavor declared, ripping the image off from the billboard. "I'll figure out why they have this of us."
Nodding, Shishido led the other two heroes down the hall and around the corner, leaving the three UA students and Burnin standing there in confusion. Katara looked over to Kendo, the red headed teen shrugging her shoulders at the entire situation as well.
Inside the interrogation room, Vixen's ears perked up as the door opened up, her eyes widening as the three heroes stepped inside. She sat up on the stool she was on, her arms moving as much as they could being cuffed behind her back. Her eyes widened even further as the flames of Endeavor rose up, sweat falling down her forehead as the heat in the room rose. She then looked over to Mirko, shivering as the white haired woman stared her down like a hungry beast, taking a breath and looking away.
While Mirko was eager to jump forward, she sat back and leaned against the wall with her arms crossed. Shishido stepped forward and sat in the stool across from the fox. "Well well well… I must say I never expected something like this." he chuckled as she shifted in her seat. "Four years I've been here in Fujiyoshida and you are the first one I've captured. I actually was beginning to think you weren't here."
"Look, whatever you think you know, you're mistaken." Vixen quickly said. "I am not-
A loud thud rang out as Mirko's foot slammed on the ground, cracking the concrete below her and shaking the whole room. "I wanna get something clear now… I want straight answers." she warned, earning a harsh glare from the lion hero.
"If she can't talk, she can't give an answer." Shishido grunted, frowning as Mirko simply glared back at him.
"What's with her?" Kendo asked from outside the room, looking over at Bakugo beside herself.
"The hell if I know," Bakugo growled out, confused by the sudden change in Mirko's personality.
Back in the room, Shishido leaned forward in his seat towards the frightened woman. "Let's not beat around the bush, alright. I know exactly who you are, Vixen. You and your gang are… legends, if you want to put it accurately. In fact only a handful of heroes have even heard of you, and even less have come across you all."
Pulling a photo out of his pocket, Shishido dropped it onto the table showing the bloody body of a man. "April 3rd, Sapporo district. Six murders of a bank manager and his associates. No suspects could be brought in due to lack of evidence. The only thing that was found as a possible suspect…" he paused as he dropped another photo, "Was this."
Vixen watched as the picture slid towards her, showing a blur moving out of frame. What could be seen was the black vest wearing man, with a scaly green tail trailing behind. She swallowed the lump in her throat as another photo was dropped, showing a mass of bodies pulled from the water.
"I pulled out nine bodies from Tokyo Bay several weeks back, all of them killed within a few minutes of each other." Endeavor sternly said as he dropped another image, showing part of a large arm barely sticking into frame, along with a snake man seemingly smiling to himself. "It's hard enough finding images of any of you. But it seems some places security cameras get lucky enough to land a shot."
The fox woman watched as a final image slid her way, showing the outside of the office building shown earlier… and a woman standing outside in a hoodie. While they couldn't see the face due to it being covered, the long red and white tipped fox tail flowing out behind certainly gave away the mystery. Looking up, she sweated as the heroes stared her down, shifting slightly in her seat before she swallowed. "I… know what this looks like, but you have it all wrong. I'm not like the others."
Snickering, Mirko clicked her tongue and tapped her finger. "Is that so, huh? What, you not get enough blood under your nails recently?"
Shaking her head, Vixen's eyes showed an almost pleading look. "You don't understand. I haven't killed anyone! I just gather information for them and relay it back. If… If they make me go to a job, I simply stand as the lookout. I had no idea what was going on until I was brought on!"
While the two male heroes raised their eyebrows curiously, the rabbit hero almost burst out laughing when she heard that. "You gotta be shitting me. You expect us to believe that?" Mirko asked, "You didn't question what your job was going to be when they came to you?!"
"I needed money! I had nothing left and they promised me so much!" Vixen pleaded. "And now I have no choice but to work for them! You can't just leave once you are in!"
"Oh I see, because he will kill you, won't he?" Mirko said, her right ear twitching as she walked closer and slammed her hands on the table making Vixen jump. "Don't worry, just point me in the right direction and I'll take that bastard out tonight."
Standing up, Shishido placed a hand on Mirko's shoulder. "You need to be patient… alright?" He demanded, squeezing to get her attention. He knew if he didn't stop her, she would probably rip this girls head off until she got what she wanted. "We will find out what we need."
Shaking her fists, Mirko chuckled and stood up from the table, flipping around and storming out of the room. From the other side of the glass, Katara sat confused as the rabbit hero stomped their direction. The shorter hero shook her arms, looking like she was ready to fight that moment as she laughed to herself. Katara glanced around to the others, seeing Burnin raising her hands in confusion. The waterbender turned back to the glass, watching as Endeavor pulled out the image they were shown earlier.
"You claim to be just a helpless victim, and yet you were carrying this," Endeavor's hand pushed the picture forward. "Seems like we are your next targets."
Taking a breath, Vixen shook her head. "No… we aren't after you. We were ordered to avoid you in combat." She motioned to the "x" marks. "Both crossed out are off limits due to danger and security for us. Our target… Our target was your sidekick."
Katara's eyes widened as she and the others turned towards Burnin. The flaming sidekick's mouth hung open in shock and disbelief, shaking her head and glaring. "What the hell is this shit?!" Burnin spat out, looking back to the rabbit hero. "Who's that girl and why does she have a photo of me?!"
Mirko simply chuckled and rubbed her hands together. "You must have pissed someone off, girl. Congrats."
"What does that even mean?" Katara asked, seeing the intensity coming from the woman's eyes. While she was trying to hide it, Katara could see a level of hatred coming from Mirko's eyes. Despite not knowing her, she could see there was something personal about what was happening now. But before she and the others could ask anything else, the shout from behind caught all their attention.
"I don't know!" Vixen yelled as Endeavor towered over her.
"Don't give me that… Who offered you the job on my sidekick!?" He demanded, making the fox girl fall backward.
"I don't know! Only our boss spoke to them! I was just told to watch out for you, find out where you were going! And when I was coming back here, I was grabbing food when…" She shivered and sat up, looking over to Shishido. "When you found me. But I swear I am not involved in that anymore! They didn't even set up a time for when to do this!"
Growling, Endeavor's fist lit up in frustration. "Then you will tell me where they are and I want it now."
"If I tell you anything, they will kill me…" Vixen shivered, her eyes darting back and forth between the two heroes. "Live as a hunter, or die as the hunted. They keep to that code and punish anyone who doesn't follow that rule. I'm dead if I say anything!"
Igniting his fist, Endeavor slammed it into the desk, burning through the side instantly. "I want answers, Or I will leave you with our friend outside to deal with. And trust me, she will not be as patient as we are."
The fox girl trembled underneath the gaze of Endeavor, her eyes watering slightly. She shivered before taking several deep breaths, clenching her eyes shut and lowering her head to the ground. "I… If you can guarantee my safety, I can tell you where they will be…"
Both Endeavor and Shishido glanced at each other for a moment at the statement, realizing what this could mean. The knock on the door made them turn around, seeing it open and a wand wave them out. Nodding, they both turned and walked out, leaving Vixen to pick herself off the ground.
Watching in confusion, Katara leaned back from the glass as Endeavor and Shishido came back around, this time being followed by a man in black. The three figures were quickly joined by Mirko as they began discussing what was happening.
"You think this could be real?" Endeavor asked as he crossed his arms. "She doesn't seem anything like I would have expected."
"I agree… but if this is real, we have a chance to do something that's never been before." Shishido added. "But to accept this as truth could be risky."
Tapping his arms, Endeavor shook his head. "After all this time for one to stumble onto us like this, it seems almost too good to be true. But…" she squeezed her hands tighter. "I don't think she's lying."
"I agree…" the man in black stated, "I could tell no signs of deceit or hidden in her voice."
Huffing out, Mirko's foot tapped several times as she nodded. "I don't want to trust a word these bastards say… but I think he's right." Her ear twitched several times as she spoke. "That girl's heart rate is so jacked I can still hear it. She's definitely terrified."
"Hey!" Bakugo shouted out, stomping towards the adults. "What the hell is going on here?! You wanna tell us who that damn fox girl is?!"
Mirko shot a glare at the teen as he approached. "Stay quiet for now, Sparky. Right now, this is-
"Hey, I agree with the blonde here!" Burnin snapped out, "I'm the one in the damn picture and I wanna know what the hell is going on!"
Staring at Vixen slumping back into her seat, Katara hardened her gaze and looked up towards Endeavor. "We are here for work studies, right? Then that means we are part of this, and that means we need to know what's happening here."
Endeavor stared at the waterbender for a moment, seeing the intense look in her eyes. He then looked over to Burnin and saw the glare she was giving, sighing and giving a nod. "Do you have a room for us?" He asked, the man in black nodding.
"Already have one ready. I've been waiting for something like this for so long." he said, leading the heroes and the teens down the hall and to another room. Inside, a single large table sat with ten chairs around it, and a large screen on the side wall. Taking one of the seats, Katara sat down as Kendo took one beside her. Soon, Bakugo, Burnin and the others took seats as well… except for Mirko, who chose to stand against the back wall on her own. The man who led them inside moved towards the screen and gave a bow to them all. "My name is Hanatoro Kunamora. I am the Police chief of Fujuyoshida. I know this may seem confusing to you, but you have no idea what we have come across just now."
Nodding, Endeavor turned and faced the others at the table. "That woman you saw in there is not just some regular street criminal. She is part of a deadly mercenary group that has avoided capture for years; The Hunters."
Shishido sighed and tapped his claw on table. "They are mercenaries for hire, who take on hit jobs for those willing to pay the fee they charge. They are known to only contain members who possess animal based quirks, particularly those of the predator based variety."
"Animals?" Katara asked, thinking of Tsu and some of the other people she had seen here. She also thought of Tokoyami, but other than his head, he didn't possess any other animal qualities.
"From what we have gathered, the original members simply wanted to keep a certain code to their group, as if it were a standard to be accepted only if you had that attribute," Shishido added. "Perhaps they believed it made them more intimidating, which seemed to work out for them."
"Are they that dangerous?" Kendo asked, glaring as Bakugo grunted out.
"They don't sound that tough. Just because they got claws, doesn't make them untouchable." He spat out.
"They are dangerous, and let me tell you they are not to be taken lightly," Kunamora stated, "In the three years since I became chief here, I have come across ninety four murders commited by them, including twelve heroes, and those are just the ones we can confirm fully. We believe there are much, much more we just can't connect them to."
Katara tightened her fists as she immediately thought back to Stain, the hero killer who had brought down so many heroes. By the way these people sounded however, they didn't do this for a cause like Stain was. It seemed money was all they needed to excuse the lives they were taking, something that made her stomach churn. She then turned to Burnin across the table, seeing her gritting her teeth in anger. "And someone is after her now?" she asked.
Burnin sneered and clenched her fist. "So these bastards got a hit on me from someone? What the fuck for?! And if these guys are so deadly, why haven't they been hunted down?"
"It's not like we are just letting them go on their free way," Kunamora sighed as he turned on the screen, "In my time in this city, we have arrested several criminals who claim to have hired them, but we've never been able to pinpoint the location of their base. In fact, I have never had the privilege of even seeing a member of them in person until now."
"I have heard of them several times over the years, and I still haven't personally engaged them before." Endeavor admitted, "Despite crimes across the country, not once have I actually seen one of them in person yet."
"I've been based here in Fujiyoshida for four years myself, hearing of them from a few crooks I put away." Shishido said, tapping his hand and sighing. "I came across one of them two years back, a wolf user who was fleeing a hit he attempted on a police officer. Luckily I was there nearby to stop it, and he put up a hell of a fight before I brought him down."
"Okay, you had one and still couldn't find anything out?" Burnin glared at the lion hero.
"We didn't get to ask anything… because he bit off his own tongue before he could get him to the station." Shishido answered, "he never said gave anything up, and he was killed the other inmates last year. Apparently some of the other villains inside lost someone to that group as well."
"So these guys are so loyal, how can you be certain this one is telling the truth?" Katara asked, "How come one of them is now turning on them?"
"It seems this one is telling the truth," Kunamora nodded, "My quirk is honest voice, and I can sense in a person's vocal patterns if they are speaking honestly. Nothing inside her words gave away any deceit or lying. The fear she was giving off was honest as well, something I never expected with her being a member."
Sighing, Mirko adjusted herself against the wall. She couldn't help but grin at the situation. "That girl was ready to shit herself. I can make that a reality if you guys want so we get that info quick."
"We get what we need from her and catch those bastards…" Endeavor said, "We can use her to capture them before they kill anyone else."
Grabbing the remote off the table, chief Kunamora pointed it at the screen and clicked, several images popping up on screen. Katara and the others eyes widened as the images of bloody bodies across the ground. Another showed one of a hero sprawled across the ground, his throat torn open and littered in blood. "These are just some of the bodies left behind in their wake. It's hard enough keeping track of which crimes are theirs or not since we don't even know how many of them are. All that we do know is the few members we've caught glimpses of."
Clicking the remote again, Kunamora flipped to the next image, showing the fox girl they had in custody. "You all are familiar with Vixen, and by the way it sounds, she is pretty low on the totem pole. Here are the others we know of."
The next picture flipped showing the snake man from earlier, before another shot zooming in on his face. "This man has been seen at three different sites where we know their group attacked. From the villains we have arrested who hired them, we know they call him Kobura. After analyzing the venom left behind on some of the victims, we know his quirk is of a spitting cobra. The one beside him we still haven't identified yet."
"I hate snakes…" Burnin grumbled before grinning. "I can't wait to turn him into a crisp worm."
"We have a few others we have caught glimpses of, including this man a few months back," Chief Kunamora said as he clicked to the next page, one that made both Shishido and Kendo's eyes widen.
"Hey, that's…!" Kendo gasped in surprise, seeing an image of the cheetah user they ran into several weeks back.
"You've got to be shitting me…" Shishido growled out.
"You know him?" Katara asked Kendo, the red head giving a quick nod.
"We were getting food after we stopped some thieves, and… he helped me up after I got pushed over by his friend." She said, her heart suddenly beating faster realizing she was so close to one of these criminals. She looked over to Shishido, seeing his claws extending out and scraping the table.
Shishido hissed as he glared at the photo on screen, realizing that the cat man they ran into along with the crocodile were both members. "They… they were right in front of us…"
"Wait, you ran into this guy?" Mirko hissed out from the back of the room, beaming at the lion hero. "You came across one and let him walk away?!"
"It's not like I knew he was a member…" Shishido shot back, "If I'd have known who they were, of course I would have brought them in."
Gritting her teeth, Mirko's foot tapped once again, looking back to the screen once more. Seeing her so pissed off made Bakugo raise his eyebrow, turning back to the screen as the image changed once more. The next image itself made Mirko's eyes widen, her hands squeezing at her forearms so tight they almost bruised. 'There you are, you fucker…' She hissed internally.
"From what we have gathered so far, this is one of their most efficient members." Kunamora said, looking at the image of the red haired man with green, scale covered hands and red eyes. "Muteki, as they call him, has nineteen kills we can confirm, including two heroes. He is fast, powerful, and considered to be extremely dangerous. But the real target I've been trying to find… is her."
The images on screen were suddenly covered by a new one, a picture showing an exceptionally tall woman, her face covered in three sets of large yellow eyes beneath her purple hair as she smiled. If the eyes already made Katara's mouth fall open slightly, the large spider legs protruding from her back certainly made her skin shiver.
"This here… is their Leader, and one of the few members we actually have information on. Her name is Kumo Shinuramo, or as the word on the street goes by… Itkomi." Kunamora quietly said. "Age twenty six, and former student to Shiketsu High."
"Shiketsu?" Katara said out loud, thinking back to the license exam and Yoarashi. "She was a former hero school student?"
"I'm not sure if hero was the right term for her. School records show she was always aggressive and showed little restraint to her classmates. She even injured several other students so severely, they were forced to drop out of school before she was expelled in her second year. Immediately, she fell into a life of crime until she became one of them. Now, every criminal we've arrested who dealt with the hunters says she is the current leader."
"If we get this fox girl to tell us where they are, we can set up a trap to finally put an end to this organization." Endeavor said and stood up from the table. "We will capture them and bring them all to justice."
"You're suggesting that they are all going to be in the same place at the same time," Shishido grumbled as he tapped the table. "These guys are known to be so secretive, so I guarantee they will somehow notify each other once we begin a raid on a group of them. Who knows, this Vixen could have notified them while she was being pursued."
"There was no cell phone or any other electronic devices on her," Kunamora confirmed. "There certainly wasn't a way for her to call the others."
"Then we go and ask that girl where the hell her little buddies are," Burnin grunted and stood up from her seat. "Let's catch these animals and lock them up in the damn zoo."
"We will figure out where these villains are," Endeavor said as he turned to the police chief. "In the meantime, contact the other heroes in the vicinity and bring them in. If we have more heroes in on this, that means we can disperse our numbers and still overwhelm them at once."
"I can get them up to speed on the situation,"Kunamora said, shutting the screen off and turning to the others, but then his eyes went back and forth when he noticed someone missing. "Where's Mirko?"
Katara and the others looked around, seeing the rabbit hero was gone now. Shishido's eyes widened as he jumped up from his seat. "Son of a bitch…."
Sitting in the interrogation room, Vixen looked up as the door was thrown open. Her ears perked up as the long white hair of Mirko flopped around, the muscular woman slamming the door closed and grabbing one of the chairs and pinning it against the handle. Breathing hard, Vixen swallowed before glaring. "What is this? You… you the bad cop now?" she asked, making Mirko chuckle.
"I'd have to be a cop for that, dumbass," Mirko scoffed out, walking towards the handcuffed woman. "I just want us to have a friendly little chat."
Eyeing the chair pinning the door closed, Vixen frowned. "You think I'm going to try and run?"
"Oh, that isn't to keep you in…. It's so no one can come and stop me if need be."Mirko snickered, grinning as Vixen's eyes widened. "I just need you to tell me what I need to know, and I want to know now." Her ear twitched as someone attempted to push the door from the outside, chuckling as it remained closed. "Time's ticking, fox."
"Look, I don't know what I'm supposed to tell you. They are too quick to catch even if you knew where they are, you can't just-
Mirko's foot lifting up and splitting the table in half made Vixen scream out and fall back to the ground. Gasping, the fox girl scrambled to her side and scooted back away from the enraged rabbit. "What are you-
"Listen…" Mirko forced out a laugh as her leg muscles flexed, seemingly making her thighs double in size. "I've never been known for patience, and I don't care. I want straight answers now… or you're going to be drinking your food through a straw for the rest of your life."
From outside the glass, the others quickly ran over to see what was happening, the chief glaring as he came out from the side hall. "I can't open the door! Help me get it open!"
"Wait…" Endeavor said, "Let her try her way first."
Katara didn't know Mirko, but judging from the look on the woman's face, this was much more than simply trying to catch a villain. She turned and looked over at Bakugo in confusion. "What's she doing?" She asked.
"The hell should I know?" Bakugo scoffed, "She's been pissy ever since we came here."
Katara looked back to the heroes behind her, seeing Shishido meet her gaze. "Did, did she lose someone close to her from these guys?" She asked.
Huffing out, Shishido just crossed his arms. "It's personal…"
Seeing she wasn't going to get answers from them, Katara turned back and watched as Mirko squatted down in front of the frightened woman.
"Now, how about you get to telling me about your buddies, and where the hell they are now?" Mirko asked.
Breathing hard, Vixen looked away for a moment before clenching her eyes closed. "I want out of this life, okay? I want to be free of this. But… I need a guarantee."
"Oh? And what may that be? More money?" Mirko taunted, only to be surprised when she saw Vixen open her eyes once more, her eyes glistened over.
"Safety…" Vixen whispered out, a few tears leaking down her cheeks. "If you can promise they won't be able to get to me… I can tell you where they will be."
While her mouth fell open slightly in surprise, Mirko took a deep breath and leaned back. "Let's hear your info first."
Scooting herself up, Vixen sniffled before looking back at Mirko. "The Hunters… they never all set base at a single place. There are locations set up all over, and they are all wired to signal the others if they are broken into. You can't just sneak into one of them without them finding out. But… There's one chance coming up soon. It's the only time I know exactly where every one of them will be."
"All of them?" Mirko asked, despite the fact she really only cared about one of them.
Nodding, Vixen swallowed before continuing. "There is a shipment coming into Sendai. It's a massive payment for two of our previous jobs, and the boss wants most of the group to be there for security."
"Most?" Mirko muttered. "So your spider boss wants a big number of you there?"
"Y-yes…." Vixen stuttered out. "Itkomi says payments have been coming up short or people were trying to stiff us, so she wanted to make sure this one went smoothly. And three of the others were ordered to meet back here for the recruits."
Mirko's ears twitched at that part, while the others outside glanced at each other. "Say that again? Recruits?" Mirko asked.
"There are four people that the boss is considering recruiting into our group." Vixen explained. "They are to be tested by whatever members they were chosen to go there and meet them. Here at Mount Fuji. Test their strength, their speed, and what they can contribute to the organization." Her ears suddenly fell flat against her head, her face scrunching in disappointment. "If the recruits are good, they are allowed to work for the group. Or, if a member becomes compromised, like me, it's the perfect way to replace them."
Katara felt a slight sense of pity from the woman, getting the feeling she was a person who fell into the wrong spot in life and couldn't get out. She glanced over to the police chief, seeing him nod as the fox girl spoke, confirming she was telling the truth. She looked back in the room, watching as Mirko leaned closer towards her.
"Such a sad story. I guess you're going to get let go." Mirko scoffed out, her fingers tapping rapidly as she watched the fox girl stare at her. "So where is he going to be then?"
Vixen tilted her head in confusion. "Who?" Who do-agh!" she gasped out as Mirko's hand shot out and grabbed her face, pulling her in close.
"Where will he be between those places?!" Mirko shouted, her grin gone from her face. "The one you call Muteki. Where… the hell… will he be?"
Trembling, Vixen shook her head. "H-He won't be there! There is a final job he is collecting payment for as well! In Niigata!" She shouted out. "That's where I was supposed to meet him afterward!"
Mirko's eyes widened at that, gritting her teeth and yanking the girl closer. "So… now that you're here… I bet he's wondering where you are, huh?"
"No… none of them know I was caught! Once I got the message yesterday to meet him, I'm supposed to stay in radio darkness until we meet after he gets the money, I swear!"
"And when is this special day…" Mirko growled, "When?!"
"All of this happens at noon!" Vixen shouted, struggling to break free of Mirko's rough grip. "In three days!"
Mirko's nostrils flared as her breath came out harder, her hand shaking slightly as she held the girl in place. "Chief… she telling the truth?" She asked, her ear twitching from the intercom clicking on.
"Yes she is. There were no lies there." the speaker rang out.
Taking a deep breath to control herself, Mirko released the girl and let her flop back to the ground. Standing up, she stormed over to the door and ripped the chair away, slamming the door open and walking out towards the others. She paused for a moment from the stares she received from everyone else, snickering before she walked right through the center of the group towards the exit. "You can figure out the rest of the details yourself… I'm going out for some space away from that girl."
Katara gasped as the rabbit hero nearly pushed her out of the way, not wanting to get in the way of the furious woman. Bakugo glared and raised his fist in the air. "Hey, where the hell you going, cottontail?! We aren't finished here!"
"We are tonight, kid…" Mirko grumbled as she walked towards the precinct exit. "Because if I stay here any longer, I'm going to rip that girl's head off." Laughing a few times, she turned back and grinned maniacally at the wide eyed police chief. "FInd out everything else you can from that little bitch. I'll be back in two days. Call me if anything else changes."
As Mirko left the facility, Bakugo growled and stormed after the hero. Taking a breath, Kunamora turned and looked at the other remaining heroes. "It's already late. You can head home and get some rest while I gather more information on this girl and the others. I will also contact other heroes and fill them in on the situation."
Sighing, Endeavor nodded to the chief. "Alright. We will head back for now."
"Huh?!" Burnin turned up to her boss. "The hell we are! I wanna know why that chick's got a picture of me and why they are after me!"
"We've already determined this Vixen woman doesn't know herself, and until we finalize the plan of what we are doing, there is nothing else to stay here for." Endeavor explained, "I will stay in contact with the chief as we discuss what is going on, and we will create a strategy for how to deal with this situation."
"Agreed," Shishido added, "I will be here over the next few days and continue interrogating her. The more detail we have on these hunters, the better it will be for us. But for now, you kids should be heading back to UA now." He looked over to Kendo beside him, "Battle Fist, I will stay here with the chief, so you will head back with Endeavor and the others."
"I…" Kendo took a breath and nodded. "Yes sir."
"Good, I'll have your bike transferred back to my agency when I'm done." Shishido looked at the other teen and sidekick standing there, squeezing his fists. "This is a monumental moment for heroes. Rest yourselves up and prep yourselves. We will meet in two days as we set up what's next."
Endeavor nodded and exited the hall, signaling his sidekick and the two teens to follow him out. Outside, he led the group towards the nearby train station, Katara glanced to the side and saw Mount Fuji in the distance, sighing out loud at the situation. "I've always wanted to see this place, but I never expected to be here because of a bunch of killers."
"Kid, I'm the one on these freaks list, so I don't want to hear you yap." Burnin growled out, punching her fist into her palm. "Once we get a hold of them, I'm gonna roast each one until they tell me who hired them."
"We will discover the reason," Endeavor said, "But perhaps it would be best if you stayed out of this battle."
"What?!" Burnin snapped, "The fuck for?!
"Because you are a target. With you going there, it is like bringing their prize to their front door. I would prefer that-
"Yeah, screw that!" Burnin jumped in front of her boss glaring at him. "You think I'm just going to sit out on this shit? I wasn't there in Kamino to back you up, and I'm not going to miss out on this. Besides, you always throw off a villains plan by going after them when they are after you."
"I agree with her," Katara said as she approached, looking over to the sidekick. "She's right. If you want to take down your enemy, you have to take them down before they finish their plans."
"You've already had trouble with the league of villains, and now we are coming across another legitimate threat." he huffed out, making Katara frown.
"If something like that scares me, then I have no business even being here. If Burnin is in trouble, then we should do whatever we can to keep her safe. That means sometimes you have to face the threat after you."
"You see? Ryujin knows what she's talking about." Burnin chuckled out, "You aren't getting rid of me that easily."
Taking a deep breath, Endeavor looked back and forth between the two before looking to the red head beside them. "And you?" he asked.
"Oh I'm not backing out of anything," Kendo said with a straight face. "I've already come across the league of villains as well, so I'm not backing out of this either."
Endeavor was hesitant with the fact of a few things in this situation; One of the facts that his main sidekick was now the target of a clan of assassins that so few had come across, and the idea of having students directly involved in a battle of this caliber. He knew however, that these kids were not normal kids. Just from what he'd seen, these students were already above the average level heroes walking around the street, and they had dealt with more than most pros already. Looking between the three girls in front of himself, he grunted and nodded his head. "Alright then, but I will make it clear now to all of you. No matter what plans are made, you will follow the plan and not deviate from that."
"As long as I get to torch some beasts, I'll be fine." Burnin snickered out. "Maybe it's a jealous ex that sent these guys after me. I can't wait to find out from these idiots."
"Yeah, I totally see an ex hiring assassins to go after you." Katara said sarcastically, "But don't worry, I'll keep an eye out for you."
"Oh, I feel so much better you're watching my back, water girl." Burnin grinned as she rolled her eyes, looking over to Kendo and raising her eyebrow. "And… I don't even know what you do by the way."
"My quirk is big fist," Kendo explained, tilting her head as Burnin blankly stared at her. "What?"
"So… you get big hands? " Burnin asked, pointing up to herself. "You mind rubbing my shoulders, then? I got bad knots that could use a massage."
"Yeah, good luck with that," Kendo frowned, making Katara chuckle.
"You should know her quirk is actually really strong. She can handle herself in a fight." Katara said, taking a breath and looking over to Endeavor standing there. "We aren't afraid of going against these guys, and we will stop them before they can hurt anyone else."
Endeavor stared back at the girl, seeing she and the others were certainly determined to join this fight. While he was concerned, he knew they were also more than capable after the things he'd seen recently. And the more help they had, the better chance they would have in capturing these villains. "Very well, then. We return here in two days, and we will end these villains and bring a stop to their killings."
As the group talked in the street, none of them noticed the being above watching them. They didn't notice him for there was no way for them to see him in general, because he was over two kilometers in the sky staring at their every move. As they dispersed, his lips curled into a smile, flapping his wings and shooting through the sky towards Mount Fuji.
Two days later, UA cafeteria after school
"Come on, tell me!"
"Sorry, not saying anything."
"Tell me! Everyone is doing cool shit lately!"
Sighing, Katara reached up and grabbed the chocolate shake from the counter, turning to the pleading Mina. "I can't, okay? We aren't allowed to say what it is."
Scrunching her face in annoyance, Mina grabbed the soda off the line in the cafe as she turned to Kendo behind her. "Come on… you gotta give me something to go off." she begged, making the red head shrug her shoulders.
"Hey, I'm in the same boat. Sorry." Kendo said as she chose the iced coffee.
"Grr! This is so lame! How come everyone is doing awesome stuff now and I can't know about it?!" Mina growled out, "You guys are really going to leave me in the dark?"
Katara and Kendo glanced at each other at their friends request, sighing again as they both shook their heads. After they gave in notices to Aizawa they would be missing school tomorrow for their work studies, Mina had grown curious about what they were doing and had not stopped bugging them about what was going on. While Bakugo had given his as well, Mina knew getting answers from the girls may have been easier. But to her disappointment, Katara and the others involved in the situation had received messages from the police chief. They were made a promise of secrecy, meaning nothing about what was going to happen could be mentioned to anyone due to risk of it being leaked.
"Ashido, we… we just can't. I'm sorry." Katara said as she watched Mina pout.
"God… all you guys have been busy kicking ass while I am stuck in school with no work studies. And I can't even know what you are doing?" Mina groaned, taking a sip of her soda. "Even Uraraka and them have been doing cool stuff, and now I barely get to hang out with anyone after school now! Even Yaomomo abandoned me!"
"I what?" Momo asked as she caught up to the trio when she heard her name. "What's happening?"
"She's crying that she didn't get a work studies offer." Kendo grumbled as she shook her drink. "And we can't talk about our stuff with her."
"Am not crying… just curious that's all." Mina pursed her lips as she turned to Momo for support, but tilted her head as she noticed the look on her face. "What?"
"It's just… I get what you feel." Momo said, frowning to herself. "Izuku has been…"
Katara's eyes widened when she heard that, glancing at the others real quick. "What's wrong? Are… you two fighting?"
"No, of course not!" Momo explained, "It's just… something has been really bothering him about his own work studies, and he insists he is fine no matter how many times I see it bothering him."
"Well, maybe it's something they told him to keep under wraps as well." Katara said, "Knowing him, I know he doesn't want to keep secrets from you, so don't get too upset with him. Whatever he is doing, it has to be important if he would ever not tell you for safety. Just give him a little time and he will certainly explain everything to you."
Sighing, Momo gave a small nod. "I know. It's just when I can see he is upset, I wish I could be there to listen to him."
"Oh don't you worry about that, you could always make him feel better in other ways," Mina grinned as they walked outside. "First, you grab his neck, and you yank him close and kiss him hard. As he gasps in shock, just slip your tongue in and-
"Ashido!" Momo yelped out as she blushed hard.
"What? Boys like it when you get a little forceful." Mina snickered, earning a playful shove from Kendo.
"Oh yeah, and how do you know that? Experience?" Kendo asked, making Mina simply shrug.
"I read." Mina admitted, making Katara laugh.
"Yeah, that makes it real." Katara sighed as she looked up to the sky, seeing the clouds shift in the wind. "We are just going to be gone for the day on a mission, alright?"
"Must be pretty cool if both of you are working together," Mina shrugged. "You mean to tell me you got both of your heroes, AND Bakugo's working together on something? Sounds like some awesom stuff is happening for you." She then turned and smiled at the creationist. "And what about you, miss ninja? You've been working with Edgeshot so much we haven't been able to hang out much."
"I know. He's been asking me to come out on patrols a lot and I haven't had much time after school." Momo admitted. "It would be fun to have some time to just hang out."
"Well, how about this weekend, we just have a girls day?" Katara suggested. "We can relax and just have some time for ourselves."
"That actually sounds like fun. I'm down for that." Kendo said. "I know Shiozake and Setsuna were asking about doing something, so I know they would be down for this."
"I agree as well. It's been a while since we did something like that." Momo added.
Mina giggled and clenched her fist. "I am so honored… these badass girls asking me to be in their presence and hang with them!"
Rolling her eyes, Katara couldn't help but smile at the pink girl's sarcasm. She always got a kick out of Mina's personality. "We would be honored to have you in our presence." she joked, bringing a laugh out from the others.
"Alright alright, don't let this get to your head," Mina teased. "I can treat us to some pizza!"
"Sounds good to me. So Sunday is the plan?" Momo asked, receiving nods from the others.
"Agreed." Katara said, noticing the phone in her pocket vibrate. Pulling it out, she saw it was a message from Shoto, frowning when she read it. "Well, I got to go. Shoto is having to go to his after school license classes and I want to see him before he goes."
"Well go on then, Shoo shoo." Mina teased as she brushed her hand towards Katara. "Go and get that sexy boy of yours."
"God, is that all you think of?" Kendo asked, frowning at the pink girl.
"What? It's not a lie saying that their guys are super hot."
"Anyway, I'm going to see Izuku as well." Momo waved at the girls as she walked away. "See you this weekend!"
As they waved bye to Momo, Mina gave a wink at Katara before she left as well. While both Katara and Kendo smiled, they both let out a small sigh as they glanced at one another. "It feels weird acting like there's no big deal about us leaving tomorrow." Kendo huffed out.
Nodding, Katara turned and walked towards their dorm building. While they had managed to get through school yesterday and today alright, she couldn't deny that she was feeling some tension about what they were doing. And that is what began to worry her, despite everything she had been through before and had come to. The fact was that these hunters were apparently enough of a threat that multiple top ranked heroes showed worry about them, they each began thinking of what these villains were capable of. Clenching her fists, Katara took a breath and smiled. "Because it shows we can handle what's going to happen. We can do whatever we want as long as we work together."
Smiling back, Kendo nodded as well. "Seems like I'm lucky the class rep is coming to keep me safe."
Laughing, Katara was about to joke back before her phone vibrated again. As she pulled hers out, she saw Kendo doing the same thing, both of their eyes widening when they saw the message they each received.
Fujiyoshida police station. Two hours from now.
They both glanced at one another at the basic message, seeing they were now set to go to their next big assignment earlier than expected. Without saying anything, the both continued on to their dorm house, needing to quickly get their things ready and to head out. Before she could get to the elevator however, she saw Shoto near the kitchen, frowning to herself she couldn't enjoy a little time before she left. As he was grabbing one of the drinks from the fridge, his eyes caught his girlfriend walking towards him.
"Hey…" He quietly said as she approached. "You heading out soon?"
She gave a small shrug. "Yeah, We have to meet up tonight to discuss what's the plan for tomorrow."
Shoto frowned at hearing that. "I was hoping that we could spend a little time together before you headed out again. You've been real busy since our date that we haven't had many evenings together."
"I know, I've been thinking the same thing after our wonderful night. But with your classes and going out on patrol it's been a lot lately."
Inhaling, Shoto shook his head in disappointment. "It's frustrating that it has to be this way… If I had simply done what was right during the license exam, then I would be out there with you now."
Smiling, Katara reached up and rubbed his arm. "You will be out there soon once you finish your test."
"And yet I should be out there now with you…" he hissed out, "You are out there risking yourself while I am stuck catching up to everyone else. I should be there to make sure you are safe every night when you are fighting on the streets."
Leaning in, Katara laid her head on his shoulder and gave him a hug. "I wish you were there too, Shoto. I would really like it if you were there at the agency with me."
Narrowing his eyes, Shoto leaned back and exhaled sharply. "I know, leaving you alone with him has never sat well with me."
"Honestly, he… he's been acting differently lately ever since I yelled at him that one day. It's like he's not even the same person that I met way back then, and he even seemed so… lost. Like he didn't know who he was. He even said that he wanted to show who he really was and not the man everyone thought." Katara huffed out, "It doesn't seem like he cares about that title anymore."
"Hmm…" Shoto hummed as he tried understanding that man, having avoided talking with his father since the license exams. "Either way, just be careful around him, and everything else."
"I will be fine. I promise." She assured him, leaning in and giving him a kiss. The two held for a moment before breaking apart, smiling as her hands slipped away from him. As she walked towards the elevator, Shoto sighed and turned to leave for his own class.
Neither knew everything was about to change for them.
Ten minutes before the meeting
Exiting the train station in Fujiyoshida, Katara adjusted her bag as she walked down the street under the darkened sky. She glanced over to Kendo and Bakugo, all three of them having been silent on the ride over here. They had already changed to their hero attire, with Bakugo adjusting the collar on his long sleeved black suit. As he pulled it slightly looser, his eyes met with Katara's for a moment, frowning and looking away. "What's up with you?" Katara asked, raising her eyebrow at the glaring teen.
"What's it to you, Hair loops?" Bakugo sneered.
"What's it to me?" Katara frowned herself at Bakugo. "Well, you've been giving me strange looks most of the time on the ride here, and since the other night. So yeah, I'm a little curious about what's up with you."
Bakugo hissed and looked away. He thought he had been hiding his animosity, but it seemed the waterbender was more observant than he had thought. After he saw the picture of Katara on the tackboard, he immediately thought the waterbender was targeted again. Even after hearing she wasn't these villains next victim, his mind still felt something was off. He thought back to Kamino once more, the questions he had rising once more. He gritted his teeth and kept that to himself… now for certain to have his chance tonight. "Just having to work with you extras means more people getting in my way."
"Oh yeah, because you're so much better than us…" Kendo mocked him, "God, you are arrogant."
Gritting his teeth, Bakugo turned away from the red head. "Watch yourself, Big Fist. Just because you were top of your class, don't think you are special around here."
Kendo's mouth dropped at the comment she just heard, clenching her fist and walking in front of him. "What the hell's that supposed to mean? You think my friends and I aren't as good as you? We've dealt with the same shit that you have."
"I don't need to explain myself," Bakugo smirked, "There's a reason why you were part the "B" class."
"Oh yeah?" Kendo Knuckles cracked as she squeezed her hands. "If you think you're so good, how about we test that right now?"
Bakugo scoffed at her challenge before his eyes widened as Katara stood beside Kendo. He glanced down to see her thumb ready to flick her gauntlet open, his own hand twitching as he wanted to do something for so long. "You both have to team up to seem tough, is that it?"
"No, it's just you're hard to get along with most of the time." Katara grunted, "It just seems like you can't help yourself from having problems with everyone else."
Feeling his eyes twitch slightly, Bakugo growled and walked around the pair. "I'm just honest and straightforward with everyone. Maybe you could learn that lesson yourself."
Katara's eyes shot open when she heard his words, feeling her chest swell immediately. While Kendo simply stomped after the explosion teen and began arguing with him, Katara could sense the intent behind his comment. She watched him spat back and forth with Kendo, before he back towards her momentarily and glared. She didn't even need to think about what he meant by that, because while arrogant, she always knew Bakugo was much smarter than he appeared. It seemed he was more observant than she thought as well, quietly following them and adjusting her bag on her back.
"I knew you were a prick, but do you even try to get along with people?" Kendo snapped at Bakugo, making him glare back at her.
"Why does it matter to you?" he sneered back.
"Uh, because it's called working with others?" Kendo threw her hands up. "And yet you just always have to argue with everyone. It's like you really don't care what others think about you."
"Of course I don't. As long as I am fine that's what matters." Bakugo grunted out, making Kendo raise her eyebrow before shaking her head.
"If you really think that, you must really just be an asshole," Kendo walked faster to avoid being beside him. "Or you're just full of shit."
"Huh?!" Bakugo yelled out as she headed up the steps to the police station, gritting his teeth and following her up towards the door. "You think I'm just full of it?!"
"Just shut up, will you?" Kendo huffed out as she made it through the doors first, quickly followed by the stomping Bakugo. Katara took a breath as she followed them up, walking into the police station and coming in view of dozens of police officers among the lobby. In through the mix of the crowd, she could see what looked like five other pro heroes as well, although she didn't recognize them from anywhere. Peering past the crowds, she then noticed the back of Burnin's unique hair sticking above the officers, weaving her way through the people before she bumped into someone. Someone very large.
"Sorry, I…" Katara's eyes widened as she looked up, recognizing the black whale face above. "Hey, you're…"
"Seems like we meet again," Gang Orca chuckled staring down at Katara. "I didn't expect to see you in a place like this working for Endeavor."
"Y-yeah," Katara said, "He asked me to come work under him after the test."
"Well, I will say it's an honor to have you among us. I know you will do well." He responded, holding out one of his large clawed hands. Smiling, Katara reached up and returned the shake.
"Thank you, sir,"
"Well well well… look who washed up on shore."
Gang Orca's face scrunched up in annoyance as he turned around, locking eyes with Shishido walking his way. "What, you lose your ball of yarn again?" He taunted, glaring back as he and the lion faced off.
"Just be thankful I even gave you a call. I figured a little charity to you would actually make your agency look worth something." Shishido hissed out.
"Please, by me being here, it will make you look competent for once."
Katara glanced back and forth between the two heroes, completely confused as to what just happened. Feeling someone grab her shoulder, she turned to see Kendo rolling her eyes. "Just ignore them. They are so competitive with each other."
"Oookay." Katara shook her head in confusion, moving away from the two bickering heroes and moved over towards Burnin. The sidekick grinned and gave a playful shove to the waterbender. Before Katara could say anything, a loud whistle from the side of the room caught everyone's attention, turning to see chief Kunamora standing beside another large screen.
"Good evening everyone. I have to say it's an honor to have all of you join us for this important day. As you have been told, the reason you have been asked to come here is for the capture of the villainous group; the hunters.
Several murmurs started between some of the police and the lower ranked heroes, a few still even confused about who these people were. They silenced their gossip when they caught sight of the flame hero coming around the corner, followed by Mirko after as they stood in front of the crowd.
"All of you listen up, because this is who you're after now," Endeavor stated as the screen changed, revealing seven images of different villains on screen. "These villains are mercenaries for hire, with the trademark of only having predator animal based quirks. For years they have been able to avoid our sights, but that all changed this week when Shishido was able to capture one of their members."
Smirking up to Gang Orca, Shishido walked ahead to the screen and stood beside the chief. The screen expanded the image of the image of Vixen as he turned back to the crowd. "Vixen, as she is called, was apprehended by myself and Battle Fist here in Shishido. From our interrogation over the last few days, we have determined she is simply an informant for the group, and has given us details that will lead to the capture of the others in return for her arrest but safety from the others."
The screen then shifted to three images of Haraka and Rogue, with Kendo glaring at the images as he continued. "These two have been seen on several surveillance images over the last few months. The one we've confirmed to have a cheetah quirk, people calling him "The speed demon Haraka." The other one we have learned is Rogue, whose crocodile quirk appear to make him the muscle of the group. These two, and another member who hasn't been confirmed yet, will be here near Fujiyoshida tomorrow, training new recruits to their organization."
The screen shifted to a single image, the red haired Muteki coming up as Mirko's breath quickened, clenching her jaw as Endeavor spoke next. "Here is the second in command to the group, Muteki. His velociraptor quirk has given him the honor of over twenty kills in his name. He was the one meant to meet with Vixen in Niigata as they collected money for a previous job."
The screen then changed to the final collection of images, revealing Iktomi's image above what appeared to be a purple haired woman with 4 eyes herself, and then one more image of Kobura. "And here we have the leader of the organization, Kumo Shinurami, AKA Itkomi. Her red back spider quirk makes her incredibly strong, fast, and deadly. The other two have spitting cobra and scorpion quirks. While we don't have photos or more information, Vixen confirms two more members will be with these three at the Sendai business district tomorrow."
"And how do you know this stuff is accurate?" one of the heroes in gold asked, "You say this villain gave this stuff up, but how do you know this isn't just a lie to throw you guys off?"
"Because I checked and verified it as well," Kunamora confirmed, "we hooked her to a polygraph, cross referenced her statements to the info we did have, and my honest voice quirk checked out clean. She doesn't have information on the other members not shown, just that she knows the number of members"
"I've heard of these villains before, but it's mostly been rumors…" Gang Orca added as he listened, "And what do you know of their plan?"
Endeavor grunted as he crossed his arms. "It seems someone has put a hit on my sidekick, Burnin,"
Frowning at the stares she was receiving, Burning gritted her teeth and placed her hand on her hips as Endeavor continued. "What matters is we have this chance to finally capture these villains and bring them to justice. Because they will be in three separate cities, that means we will have to strike them all at the same time to guarantee they won't be able to contact the others. That is why we will split up into three groups for this."
The screen shut off as the police chief walked forward. "Team one will be led by Endeavor and Gang Orca, along with three others and officers will lead the attack in Sendaii against the leader Itkomi and whoever else is there. Team two will be led by Shishido on the attack of the recruits. Joining him will be the other remaining heroes who came here… along with the three students and Burnin."
Katara and the others glanced at each other in surprise, not expecting to be put on a team together under Shishido. Burnin herself sneered as she suddenly realized what was going on. "Wait, boss… you're not doing what I think you're doing, right?" She asked, Katara and the other students looking up to the chief as he nodded.
"We are all in agreement on this one. Due to the fact you were on a target list, Burnin, it's best if you still avoid the main group of their forces. The same goes for the students here. Even though you've all proven your skill and talent, it's in the best interest of your safety to also stay out of conflict with the Hunter leaders."
Katara looked towards Endeavor after that, the flame hero giving a small nod. While she wanted to deny the request, she knew at this point she had to put her ego aside and listen. Whatever personal thoughts she had of him, she knew if he and the other heroes saw them as this large of a threat, then it was best to listen to him. Her classmate however didn't have the same courtesy. "You think we can't handle ourselves with this damn bug?" Bakugo spat out, "If she is just a spider, all you need is a big boot and crush her ass."
While a few of the police officers chuckled at the boy's comment, nearly everyone else cast a harsh glare at the blonde teen. Kunamora shook his head and tapped the remote in his hand. "Just a bug… kid, this woman is someone who you should never engage yourself with. She was already ranked top in her school in all physical levels, and since then her power has only risen since then. On her own, she killed ten highly trained villains at once in the matter of minutes, along with the fact four heroes have been killed by her own hands, including Blackfire, the former number sixteen hero. So no, I don't recommend calling her just a bug."
Bakugo was ready to say something back, but the intense stare he received from Mirko above kept his mouth shut. Even he was growing confused to the rabbit hero's sudden intensity, obvious she was hiding something about what was going on.
"And you said there was a third force?" One of the other heroes asked.
"Yes…" Endeavor said as he turned to his right… looking at the lone rabbit hero beside himself. "Mirko will be the one heading to Niigata."
Multiple murmurs rose up from the news, Bakugo's eyes widening in annoyance that he was being put together with everyone while she was going solo. Katara and Kendo looked at one another in confusion as to why she would be doing something so risky. "She's not bringing anyone with her?" Katara asked, looking back to the rabbit hero tapping her foot on the ground."
"You are going in alone against this Muteki?" Gang Orca asked, "You really are too crazy sometimes, Mirko."
"Are you trying to say I can't handle it?" Mirko grinned at the whale hero. "How about you just do your part and I do mine, you oversized beluga."
As Gang Orca growled, the others glanced back and forth at each other, the venom from Mirko's voice making them shut up. Huffing out, Endeavor turned to the screen as it now displayed an image of both Muteki and Itkomi. "Not only to the students, but everyone should show extreme caution with these two. While Mirko deals with Muteki, only Orca and myself should engage their leader Itkomi. Deal with the others as either of us face her. Both of their strengths are said to far exceed any of the other members, so avoid fighting them unless there is no other option."
As the screen shut off, Endeavor looked back and forth among the crowd, taking a deep breath before nodding. "For years I've been following these people and the bodies they've left behind. All of you here, this is the chance to stop these killers from hurting anyone else, to bring justice against those who've abused their power for too long. You know the risk here, but that is what you do when you are all heroes. Prepare yourselves tonight, for tomorrow… we put an end to these villains."
As the meeting ended, Bakugo narrowed his eyes as Mirko quickly turned and left the room towards the back. 'The hell is with cottontail? She's even more of a bitch than normal ever since these hunter people got mentioned.' he said to himself. He turned and saw Katara glancing his way as well, obvious his comment from earlier catching her attention. He grunted and walked by the waterbender, close enough to make sure she was the only one in ear range.
"Seems cottontail has a secret like you, hair loops. Just know this… I always find out what the hell people are hiding."
Katara didn't move as Bakugo walked past her, feeling like everything else around her went silent. She slowly turned and watched her classmate walk through the crowd, her heart rate surprisingly calm after learning one of her biggest class rivals now knew she wasn't what she seemed.
Near the base of the snow covered mountain, Itkomi leaned against the tree as she stared at the large lake beside her. The shimmering surface danced with the moonlight from above, only broken by the ripples from a fish jumping above the surface. While she didn't do it often, she always did enjoy the beauty of this place, and in some way was disappointed it may be a memory soon. She knew if this plan was to be enacted, it would mean everything in this city they built would have to be abandoned. She heard rustling to her side, frowning as she saw Muteki walking her way. "What do you want?"
Smirking, Muteki shrugged his shoulders. "What? I can't come and keep my generous boss some company?" he asked, "Besides, your client asked for you again."
Coming into the faint light, Dabi grinned up to the tall spider woman. "You don't look happy to see me."
"Oh, I am so thrilled to see you," Itkomi sarcastically said, furrowing her brow and looking back to the lake. "Just enjoying the view a bit more before it's gone. After this job, we won't be able to keep this city as a home base. There will be too many eyes here for my liking, and we have to wait to make sure this plan is happening."
"Huh?" Dabi's eyes widened at her statement. "You said the other day it was good."
"That was the plan, but until it works the way it will go, then we do not move." She explained, staring down at her fingers. "This requires several steps to work, and if they aren't perfect, then I am not risking myself or my group if the pieces don't fall into place… especially since there was another piece thrown into the mix."
Knowing what she was referring to, Muteki's gaze hardened as he took a breath. A week before, he finally told his boss who in fact would also be joining the heroes once they knew where they were. Like what he expected, the hunters leader grew beyond pissed, seeing they were going to have to deal with not one, but two top ten heroes at once. This meant everything had to be changed now, having to prepare against such a threat was more than even she wanted. In fact she was ready to back out of the entire idea all together, not seeing it worth the risk.
That was… until Dabi returned with a special prize that shocked even her.
"So, your little gift for us… you are certain it is enough?" Itkomi asked, turning her eyes to Dabi.
The blue flame user simply grinned at her concern. "Even if it doesn't kill him, it will give the distraction needed for everything else to fall into place." Dabi snickered, "Besides, he is only part of the overall plan. The biggest prize are the others all following along."
"Hmm…" Itkomi grunted as she thought about everything that was happening, running her fingers through her hair and scratching her head. Suddenly, a gust of wind whipped through the center of the trio, her hair flapping to the side as the dust was swept upward.
"The hell?!" Dabi gasped as he caught sight of the figure who skidded to a stop beside them all. When his eyes caught first sight of the feathers, his heart jumped, assuming a certain someone had tracked him down. When he looked more, however, he realized he was mistaken. "One of yours?"
"Yes he is," Itkomi said, turning to see the shorter man stand up, his head and neck covered in charcoal gray feathers. Protruding from his back were a pair of gray and silver wings, flapping as he turned. His hands were instead replaced by yellow bird legs tipped with massive talons, and his eyes were a piercing yellow with large pupils staring back at her. "Back already, I see."
"Because it's already done," the falcon man said, "They are going through with it, and they all showed up."
Both the hunters there and Dabi glanced at one another to the news, realizing their plan worked. Muteki took a deep breath as he nodded to himself, flexing his claws before laughing. "Seems like it was a success. Endeavor and the others were all there?"
"Yes, and there's three students from UA who showed up, including that girl." the falcon stretched his long yet sleek wings, folding them up against the silver shirt he was wearing. "And it seems like they will all be coming as well."
Dabi snickered to himself, glad to see that Katara was going to be coming as well. Despite the fact Shoto wasn't here, he was going to make that half and half bastard suffer after this was all done. "I guess it's settled then. I bet the muscle freak will enjoy hearing that this trip here wasn't for nothing."
Itkomi took a breath and turned to her second in command. "Alert everyone now. We are pushing forward with this."
Chuckling to himself, Muteki gave a sarcastic salute as he turned and headed back towards the cave, as Dabi stayed there and stared at the falcon man, frowning as he reminded him somewhat of someone annoying. Cracking her knuckles, Itkomi breathed out several times before a small smirk fell upon her face. "Good job, Sokudo. You were out of range of them, correct?" She asked, looking over to her feathery hitman.
Grunting to himself, Sokudo reached up and scratched through his feathers with his taloned hand. "Unless they have binoculars, there's no way for them to see me from my range. I still don't understand why you want to have Endeavor come this way, though. The more heroes around, the harder this will be."
"Because you have to bring out the wolf to catch the cub," Dabi sneered, "but you don't make it known that the cub is the target, otherwise they will be put into hiding. You make it seem that someone else is the goal, and that girl I'm after is beyond special. If she is taken under Endeavor's watch, the entire population of Japan will lose their faith in these heroes."
Glaring at the league member, Sokudo looked back to his boss. "You sure it was smart to leave Vixen like this? Why did we have to let her be captured for them to-
"She's doing her part, and that's what matters." Itkomi stated, signaling her associate there was nothing more to discuss. "What matters is we prepare ourselves for what is to come. You know where you are supposed to be, and you should put all your focus into that."
Exhaling, Sokudo nodded and opened his wings once more. In a single flap, the peregrine falcon user burst off the ground and took off through the sky, the wind rushing through the area and whipping Dabi's coat back. "Your guys don't question you much, do they?" Dabi asked.
"If they did, they wouldn't be standing after that. Insubordination will sink any ship, so loose ends are to be dealt with." Itkomi said as she brushed her hair behind her ear.
"So I assume your member in cuffs right now is just a sacrificial lamb?" Dabi snickered, "You are cold."
Itkomi shook her head at his assumption, walking back towards the cave up the mountain as she smiled. "Be grateful, Dabi. It looks like you are getting your wish soon. Like we agreed, you get your price, and we get our money."
Grinning to himself, Dabi opened his palm and ignited his flame. He stared at the blue flame dance in his hand, chuckling and clenching his fist close. "I'll be seeing you soon, Enji. Let's see what you can do when everything you worked for is stripped away."
Notes: Wow, talk about a loaded chapter! so much happened that by the end I didn't realize how detail heavy this one was.
The heroes seem like they are ready to make their move... but the hunters seem ready as well.
(and the new hunters members Sokudo means speed in Japanese... fitting for the fastest bird species.)
Mirko's past, Katara and Bakugo's confrontation... and the confrontation with the hunters... all will be coming to a head!
