Chapter Seventeen: A New Look
MAX'S POV
After I found out about my new mission, I knew I needed a whole new look. If my mom truly knows the location of Jeb, I need to make sure everything goes smoothly. Meaning the Flock can't figure out it's me.
That's why Isa and I spent the day at the hairstylist and shopping. It wasn't my idea of a fun way to spend a Saturday but it was nice laughing and talking with Isa. She's like a second mother.
So, now in my new room, I stare at my reflection in the full length mirror. I'm still trying to get used to the new look. My new identity. For the next who knows how many days, possibly months, I am no longer Maximum Ride with dirty blonde hair and brown eyes who happens to be an Avian-human hybrid.
I am Dani Hart, grand-niece of Admiral Klune and Michelle Klune. My hair, curled, is dyed auburn and my eyes are a hazel instead of chocolate brown. My story is that I got into some trouble, sent to live with my military family to complete a year of community service. I enjoy swimming, hiking, hunting, shopping and getting into trouble. I am a bubbly and obnoxious person who speaks her mind no matter how harsh the comment is. I have trouble following rules and I easily get bored leading to me causing trouble. I have a hard time making friends and fitting in which also leads to bad behavior.
The Admiral and I came up with the cover story while on the plane. He doesn't quite understand why I dyed my hair and changed the color of my eyes but luckily, he didn't ask any questions.
I'd say I still look like myself but it isn't obvious. Isa thought I should have gone more crazy with my new appearance but I wanted to feel as natural as possible. Especially since my new style is as far from the truth as you can possibly get.
I turn in the mirror, examining my awful clothes. I'm wearing a black skirt with a tight white shirt and red heeled boots. I absolutely love the boots but despise the damn skirt. While this style is pretty cute, it isn't Maximum Ride. So, naturally, it's part of the perfect disguise.
I really hope I'm able to fool the Flock. I need to pull this off because once I do, Jeb is dead and I'm free.
