Chapter 13: Soarin' Rainbows (A/N: This isn't an episode from the series. This is something of my own thoughts)
One evening Rainbow Dash was at Fluttershy's house and they were doing their homework together.
"Thanks for helping me with this math assignment, Fluttershy."
"No problem, Rainbow."
Just then there was a knock at her door.
"Come in." Zephyr Breeze opened the door.
"Hey, sis Mom and Dad says dinner will be ready soon. And that you're welcome to join us, Rainbows."
He gave her a charming smile. Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes.
"Okay, Zephyr." Fluttershy replied.
Then he left.
"You know my brother doesn't mean any harm."
"I know, but he can still be annoying. No offense."
"None taken."
Rainbow Dash decided to stay for dinner, mostly because Fluttershy was her friend, and Mr. and Mrs. Shy were good cooks.
"It's nice of you to stay for dinner, Rainbow Dash." Mrs. Shy told her taking a dish out of the oven.
"Thanks for having me."
"I hope you're in the mood for pasta pesto." Mr. Shy said.
Mrs. Shy then set the dish on the table. They all had a nice dinner, and when the time came it was time for Rainbow Dash to go home. She was walked to the door by Fluttershy and Zephyr Breeze.
"It's pretty dark outside, Rainbow. I could escort you home." Zephyr offered.
"Thanks, Zephyr. But my house is only a few blocks away."
Rainbow Dash then got on her bike, and rode off. Rainbow Dash didn't hate Zephyr, but she found him annoying the way he was always trying to flirt with her. She was into guys with different characteristics.
The next day, Rainbow Dash arrived at school early to do some soccer practice. She was kicking some balls into the goal, when suddenly one of the balls bounced off the side of the goal, and hit her right on the forehead.
She fell back to the ground.
"Ouch."
"Whoa, that was bad." called a voice.
Rainbow Dash opened her eyes, and the saw the figure of a guy standing over her. As her vision cleared, she realized it was Soarin'.
"You okay, Rainbow Dash?"
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine."
It could've been the lighting of the morning, or the bump she got on her head, but Rainbow Dash had to admit Soarin' looked kinda cute. He then held out his hand, to help her up. Rainbow Dash took it, and got herself up.
"Thanks, what are you doing here?"
"Came here to do some exercises."
"Same here. Like to keep up my skills."
The two were quiet for a minute, then Soarin' spoke up.
"Well I better get going. See you around, Rainbow Dash."
"Okay, bye." Rainbow watched as he headed off.
"Wow, he's kinda cool." she whispered to herself.
During school, Rainbow Dash continued to think about Soarin'. Even though they were in different grades, she did she him often. She had a couple classes with him, she saw him at lunch, and they had some soccer practices together.
And she found herself thinking that she wanted to get to know him better. So during one of their soccer practices, when the coach told them to take a break, she decided to talk to him.
"Hey, Soarin', what's up?"
"Oh, hey Rainbow. I'm all right, you?"
"I'm fine. You were good at soccer practice today."
"Thanks, you too. So...how has school been going?"
"It's fine, though some of Mr. Cranky Doodle's assignments are killing me."
"Tell me about it."
The two began to chat about math class.
When school ended, Rainbow Dash was leaving with her friends.
"Today went really well." said Twilight.
"What about for you guys?"
"My day was okay." Rainbow Dash replied.
"See you later, Rainbow Dash." called a voice.
The girls looked, and saw it was Soarin'. He was waving goodbye as he was leaving.
"Bye Soarin'."
"Been a while since we've seen Soarin'." mentioned Pinkie.
"Yeah, how's he doing Rainbow?" Applejack wondered.
"He's all right. Turns out we both hate math."
The girls all giggled, as they all walked off campus.
The following day, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash were in science class, which was happening outside.
"It's so nice when we can have class outside." Fluttershy mentioned.
"Yeah, better than just sitting in the classroom." Rainbow Dash agreed.
As the teacher spoke to the class, Rainbow's eyes wandered over to the soccer field, where she saw Soarin' and his friends playing. He looked good while he was playing. Fluttershy noticed, and grew curious.
"Uh, Rainbow?" she whispered.
Rainbow Dash quickly snapped out of it.
"Are you all right?"
"Yeah."
"What were you looking at?"
"I'll tell you later."
Fluttershy understood that, and turned her attention back to the teacher.
Once science class was over, Fluttershy spoke to Rainbow Dash again.
"So what was going on with you in science class?"
"Well...I was looking at Soarin'."
"Soarin'?" "Yeah, I realized he's a pretty nice guy. And..."
"And what?" Rainbow Dash blushed.
"Well...I think I may...like him."
Fluttershy couldn't believe what she had just heard.
"Really?" Rainbow Dash nodded.
"Rainbow Dash, that's great." Fluttershy squealed.
"Shh, keep it down."
"Sorry."
"Aren't you going to tell the others?"
"I don't know. It's kinda embarrassing."
"No it's not. It's a good thing. And I bet the others will think so too."
"You think?"
"I know."
Fluttershy put her hand on Rainbow Dash's shoulder. Rainbow Dash looked at her and smiled.
When school was over, the girls gathered in Fluttershy's bedroom.
"So what's the deal ya'll?" Applejack asked.
"Yes, what's going on?" added Rarity.
"Girls, we've gathered you all here to tell you some big news." Fluttershy told.
"What news?" wondered Pinkie Pie.
"Rainbow Dash?"
Rainbow Dash looked a little sheepish.
"Well...lately I've been talking with Soarin'."
"Soarin' from the varsity soccer team? He's a pretty nice guy." Twilight piped up.
"Yeah, and well...I think I like him."
The girls couldn't believe what they just heard. They stood there quiet for a moment. And a couple seconds later, they all started squealing.
"Rainbow Dash that's great." said Pinkie.
"I'm so happy for you darling." Rarity mentioned.
"Me too." replied Applejack.
"Congratulations." said Twilight.
"Keep it down guys." Rainbow urged.
"When did this happen?" Pinkie wanted to know.
"Well what do you think he thinks about you?" wondered Rarity.
"Uh...I don't know."
"Well I'm sure he'd probably would like ya." Applejack encouraged.
"You think so?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't he?" asked Twilight.
The girls then decided to help Rainbow Dash.
At school the girls walked down the hallway, and saw Soarin at his locker.
"There he is." whispered Rainbow Dash.
"Go and talk to him." urged Pinkie.
She was given a little push, and Rainbow Dash went up to them.
"Hey, Soarin." she greeted.
"Oh hey, Rainbow. What's up?" asked Soarin'.
"Nothing much. How's soccer going?"
"It's going great, you know you have good skills on the field. We should practice together."
"Really? That'd be awesome."
"Hey, Soarin'." called a voice.
He turned back and saw Spitfire and Blaze.
"You coming or what?" Spitfire wondered.
"I'm coming. See you around, Rainbow."
And he went off. Rainbow Dash's friends quickly went to her.
"So what did he say to you?" asked Rarity.
"Don't leave us hanging." added Pinkie.
"He says we should practice soccer together."
The girls all quietly squealed.
"So what's up with you and Rainbow Dash?" asked Blaze.
He looked back at her and her friends.
"She's actually pretty cool. And to be honest...she's kinda cute." Soarin' admitted.
"(Giggles), looks like our boy's got crush." teased Spitfire.
And the friends went their separate ways with Rainbow Dash and Soarin' looking back at each other smiling.
