Chapter Two
Herbology was the second class of the day and as we began our trek down to the Greenhouses I noticed how her hand never left my own. I was unaware whether or not she had realised she was doing it too. Upon arrival all eyes turned to the door as we took our spots beside one another and a much younger Professor Sprout noticed us.
"Ah yes. Class please welcome a new transfer. Helena Granger." They were all gawking at me as if I had six heads. Frank Longbottom nodded to me and I just returned that before getting settled and ready for class.
The full first day of classes passed and so far I hadn't came across something I didn't already independently study. Narcissa and her intellect was something that surprised me.
I know the headmaster told me of it before he sent me back but I couldn't believe exactly how intelligent she actually was. Herbology, Potions and Charms she had exceeded even my expectations and I found myself growing even more enraptured by her.
My schoolmates however had taken to looking at me all day as if I was a shiny new toy. I knew with my time turner usage I was older than my seventeen years but if someone asked me I realistically had no idea. It was later in the evening when I walkedinto the Great Hall and I realised it would be the first time I would be alone without Narcissa. It had only been a few hours but I had grown dependant on her already.
"Dianna, this is Helena." I smiled at the seventh year Ravenclaw whom had been in my classes all day. She slid up the table and offered me a seat.
"Helena, this is Dianna Chang, she will take good care of you. She is the Seventh year Ravenclaw prefect and is heading to the Unspeakables after she graduates." Dianna patted Narcissas hand in her own in a kind gesture before the youngest Black sister turned back to me.
"If you need anything, ask for Sage. She is the house elf assigned to Slytherin she will inform me you need help." I smiled and nodded before Dianna threw her arm over my shoulder and smiled teasingly at Narcissa.
"Don't worry Narcissa. I will take very good care of her." I instantly picked up on the innuendo before the blush creeped up my face as Narcissa glared at the girl before heading to the Slytherin table for her own dinner.
"She gets a bad rep but Narcissa is a good ally to have. Seems she has taken a shine to you." I slowly took a sip of my elderflower water before my dinner appeared in front of me.
"Yeah she has been very kind to show me around." Nothing more was said, I could see she wanted to but left me to my dinner. She introduced me to another couple of my year mates. Andrea Wilson was a half blood Ravenclaw whom was plastered on her boyfriends knee but was a good conversationalist in regards to Arithmancy.
Ciara Edgecombe whom I recognised as Mariettas mother was a bit bitchy about others like her daughter but altogether welcoming. Pandora Lovegood was someone whom I could spend all day talking to.
Like Luna she had an airyness about her but was a lot more together than that of her fairy daughter. Her knowledge of Potions was extraordinary and soon a debate broke out about the properties of fresh newt eyes and powdered. It was one that Remus Lupin, Severus Snape (reluctantly) and Narcissa soon joined in on.
It seemed to me that Seven years of school together and some of these students had never uttered a word to one another. I made friends with Remus Lupin, Lily Evans and a Hufflepuff whom looked identical to her son... Alice Crawford whom would later become Longbottom.
All in all my first day was pleasant and it seemed even the teachers had noticed the different houses intermingling and smiled. Maybe I wouldn't fail as bad as I thought I would. Although the Headmaster said I showed up in 1976, the Potters still die, The Longbottoms still ended up in a ward in St Mungos and realistically without those events Voldemort could not die and Bellatrix would be free to roam and reek havoc.
Lily Potter needs to cast herself in front of Harry in order for Voldemort to die. All of these people I am befriending are going to die and it was when that finally settled on my chest I started to gasp. Ever since the night at the Ministry I had been having nightmares and panic attacks and I gulped air in and staved it off before excusing myself.
"Don't you need help getting back to the common room Helena?" I smiled politely and shook my head before muttering something about the Library and walked as fast as I could out of the Great Hall toward the one place I could think.
I kept it together and passed a few people but not many before finding my secret spot in the library which was never occupied and gripped tightly onto one of the bookshelves.
Cackles of laughter, green lights, Sirius falling through the veil, purple light and a sharp pain in the shoulder as Dolohovs curse hits me. Tears were coming hard and fast at this point and I was gasping for breath when soft hands touched my shoulders.
I stumbled away as Severus Snape stood in front of me and for the second time since I arrived held my bag in his hands. He dropped it at my feet and pulled out a potion from his robes which I recognised as a calming draught. I downed it in one and tried to calm my breathing.
"Deep breaths. In.. Out... That's it... In... Out." It took a few moments but it worked and he stood three feet away from me before I nodded my head at him when I finally did calm down enough.
"Thank You." He nodded his head at me and sat opposite me on one side of the desk I had found.
"If you need more, let me know. First one is free." I nodded and thanked him before he walked away, I noticed Sirius Black and James Potter tripping him up closer to the end of the bookshelves and before Snape could react I sent a wandless Bat bogey hex at them both which earned roaring of laughter and a look from Severus Snape which looked like Gratitude.

The first few weeks of classes passed relatively quickly, Professor Dumbledore was no closer to sending me back and yet he seemed content to let me stay here. I go back eventually don't I? Unless I die in the past, in this upcoming war which lets face it, it would be my luck.

Today was the first Hogsmeade day and I truthfully was looking forward to it. For the past four weeks I had created a sort of tentative friendship with a few people but none more so than Narcissa Malfoy.
I had two study groups which was working wonders for House Unity but not for House friendships it seems. Monday and Thursday nights I had Narcissa, Severus, Alice with Frank, Lily Evans, Remus Lupin, Edgecombe and Chang whom it seems come as a two for one deal.
A few other join in occasionally but those are the regulars and it is basically a place for all of the houses to converge and help out with assignments and homework. It was something which would have been extraordinary in my own time. Narcissa always sat beside me and it was an unconscious decision for us both to gravitate toward one another.
From breakfast till evening curfew we spent practically all of our time together. I knew what was happening, I was attracted to her and was beginning to feel something deep for the blonde, dark witch. To everyone else we looked like best friends but I could feel something mounting between us.
I knew come graduation she would be given to Lucius Malfoy and I would probably be back in my own time but I couldn't stop the feelings that were growing between us both. I suppose at this point whatever will be will be.
I was broken out of my head by the object of those fantasies sitting down beside me in the Great Hall. She had on a black skirt, stocking covered legs, black boots with a white blouse and grey coat. Her usually nude lips were painted rosy red and she had her long blonde hair half pinned up but half down.
I was very aware of the reaction she had from the school, not only was she head girl but she was the most desirable woman in the school and all of the men wanted to be with her but, it seemed even away from Hogwarts Lucius Malfoy had put the fear of Merlin into all of Narcissas classmates.
I had heard through the grapevine of some of the people in Seventh Year what kind of man he was. A manwhore extraordinaire but would strike down any man whom looked at his woman wrong. She seemed to not care and spoke to boys in the year but never was open with anyone.
She had a mask which I had seen in the future, a mask of resilience but also something which revered here to her peers. She was a powerful and intelligent witch and oozed confidence and sexuality even at such a young age. The Wizarding World would have to watch out for Narcissa Malfoy. She had more layers to her than people could initially see and I for one was ecstatic to get glimpses behind the Ice Queen persona.
"Are you ready?" I nodded at her and stood before donning my coat, she slowly done up my buttons with her wand before grasping my hand in hers and we left to follow the rest of the foot traffic of Hogwarts. Blending in to the crowd I noticed she had brought a small letter with her and told me she was meeting her mother but it would only take a few moments.
We spoke the whole way down to the village and the lies I had to tell to get to this point was astronomical. I seemed to be a never ending puzzle she couldn't figure out and it frustrated her. So full of questions and animation with me but it seemed I was the only one. Seeing her with others she always kept her guard up but with me it seemed I was privileged to see a side of her not a lot of people do.
"Where to first?" We spent the whole morning browsing the shops, she had bought more school supplies and gifted me a white feather quill for my belated birthday.
I made a mental note of hers which was April and vowed if I was still here to buy her something wonderful. It was around lunchtime when she took me to a small little cafe which was no longer there in the future. As we walked in I noticed immediately which one was her mother.
The woman whom looked like she was on the verge of throwing up sat as straightlaced as anything. She was incredibly well put together but I could see Narcissa did not inherit her beauty from her mother.
For the first time Narcissa let go of my hand and straightened her back before heading over to her mother and stood beside her in greeting. I demurely followed unsure of whether that was the right thing to do.
"Mother." She, curtseyed and kissed her mothers knuckles before the woman in question stood and circled her daughter to eye her appearance. It was as if she was an exhibit on display and appearing satisfied she sat down when Narcissa ushered me forward.
"Mother, I would like to introduce you to Miss Helena Granger, a transfer student whom was sorted into Ravenclaw." I curtseyed to the woman and held my hand out in greeting.
"Pleasure to meet you Lady Black, I have to say I have been following your charitable work in the Daily Prophet. I would also love to pick your brains about the new law the Ministry is trying to pass. It sounds fascinating." Truthfully it sounded horrendous, talking about placing tracking charms on Centaurs and Werewolves. Utterly disgusting but this woman apparently made Siriuss mother look like the fucking Easter Bunny so sucking up to her arse was exactly what I was going to do.
"Tell me girl, other than the Dagworth Granger family I do not know of any Grangers in the magical world. Are you of mudblood heritage?" I couldn't help but think back to my meeting with the goblin.
FLASHBACK
It was a week into my time in this timeline, The Headmaster called me to his office after my last class on the Friday. I was suprised upon entering that we would travel to Gringotts for a meeting.
"Gornuk has been the Dumbledore family goblin for centuries, he has made our substantial amount of family money even more substantial. I trust him Miss Granger." I nodded and I took his arm as he apparated me away from the grounds of Hogwarts to land directly into a stone circular office.
A goblin stood as we came and greeted Albus Dumbledore as an old friend instead of a client of the bank. They communicated in Gobbledygook for a moment before Albus Dumbledore introduced me.
"This is the young lady I was telling you about." Albus Dumbledore took out a, letter and handed it to the goblin whom greeted me and offered me a seat. I honestly did not know what to say other than to lift a similar letter out of my bag that had been burning a hole in my schoolbag for nearly a week.
"This was sent back with me." I handed it to him and he easily pried the letter open before reading and casting a wonderous glance at me before summoning a bronze bowl and a silver dagger.
"Well Miss Granger if you would be so kind as to drop a few drops of blood into the goblet." I shook my head at the goblin and realistically did not know what was happening.
"Until I know what my blood is going to be used for I don't know if I feel comfortable parting with it." He grinned and showed his teeth to me which could be equal parts friendly and terrifying all at once.
"I am going to perform an inheritance test after confirming your identity." I nodded and slit my pinky finger open with my wand before dripping five drops into the goblet which started hissing and spluttering.
"It seems Miss Hermione Jean Granger you are telling the truth." A piece of Parchment sat in front of him as my name and date of birth appeared and he was flabbergasted, slowly names started appearing. My parents names, and uncles and so many generations before me. There was a few names I recognised and was shocked by, it seems Albus Dumbledore was too.
"So it seems you are not muggleborn but actually a by product of squibs. Your grandparents descend from two houses which realistically I had thought was near extinction." It was one name I recognised and one I didn't. Ollivander and Avery.
"Ollivander of course only has one living member whom has no children to pass on the line to. Garrick as you know, Wandmaker extraordinaire is the last surviving heir to the Ollivander family. The Avery family is a little more complicated, Macauley Avery Senior died five years ago leaving his son his small fortune. Unfortunately the young male heir was left with permanent spell damage and is now a resident in St Mungos." I didn't understand how could I go through all of my life not knowing this.
"Your great grandmother was a cousin of Garrick of course and your grandfather was the uncle of old Mac. You are the sole heir to the Avery family vaults. There is also another vault which has not been claimed. It is many generations old and has not been claimed in over three hundred years. The La Fay Vault has been dormant and for good reason, the entire family fled britain and set up somewhere else. Their other worldly possessions left to claim but no one did." I shook my head and instantly regretted it because it was spinning.
"Hang on your telling me that The Vault of Morgana La Fey is now mine? Why did no one from the Ollivander or Avery families claim it." The goblin shook his head and tapped the parchment which grew in feet before coming to a stop at the morgana line.
"It has been a family line of men born in the bloodline but the Vault and everything it contains requires a matriarchal claimant. As per Morganas curse." I nodded half understanding before he offered to take me down to it which I politely declined. Whatever it was, I had made it this far without it, however once he mentioned the books I couldn't resist.
END OF FLASHBACK
"Well I was brought up in the muggle world Lady Black, I was in foster care and did not know my parents however it has come to my attention I have relatives in the Ollivander family. I plan to reach out to Mr Ollivander soon and introduce myself." She, seemed satisfied and after a quick cup of tea and Narcissa handing the woman a letter for Bellatrix we went on our way.
Once her mother had apparated she instantly relaxed and took my hand in hers again before whirling around to face me with a horrified and impressed look on her face.
"I had never met someone whom my mother likes." It was hit and miss about whether the woman likes me or not. Realistcally the way she was with me was no more than indifference but in seeing the awed look in Narcissas face I smiled at her.
"I guess I got lucky." She, smiked and took my arm as we strolled through the village once more and we shared a bag of warm caramalised Almonds before finishing our shopping. It was almost time to head back to the castle and we were so caught up in our own heads we didn't see him until he had grabbed her arm and yanked her backward.
"Well, well, if it isn't my bride to be." She wrenched her arm away from him and I glared openly at the pompous peacock.
"Lucius, I wish I could say it was a pleasure but I would be lying." She hated him, the look in her eyes was pure hatred and it seems he saw it as somewhat of a, challenge because he took a threatening step toward her.
"Seven more months and you're mine, just remember that my beautiful prize. I have heard about your new friend here, wouldn't want to give people the wrong impression?" She glared back at him and I just smirked at his idiocy which he seemed to find offensive.
" Something funny you steeet urchin?" I just shook my head but squared up to the man whom I could see Yaxley standing behind him smirking.
" I just find it funny Mr Malfoy that you are threatened by a friendship, although I guess since your first betrothed ran away then you would definitely be nervous. Don't worry Lucius it's not your fault that the Black women just aren't into you." Narcissa grabbed me by the arm and went to pull me away but Lucius just grabbed me by the shoulder to which I had my wand out quicker than he could react.
" I don't know who you think you are but... " I laughed and held my hand out to him to shake and seemed momentarily shocked for a, second
" Helena Granger Ollivander Avery, pleasure to make your aquantance. Don't worry Mr Malfoy you've made your point but regardless Narcissa is my friend and if you value your life you will take your hand off my arm before I snap it off at the wrist." He seemed taken aback at the prospect that I am not scared of him and so he didn't move.
I threw a wandless Bat Bogey at him much like I did at James and Sirius that first evening, it had the desired effect because he jumped away as bats flew out of his nose and I grabbed Narcissas hand and guided her away up toward the castle and away from her future. I can only hope I can save her from it.
There is it folks! Hope you enjoyed xox
