Hello to all! This is Episode 27 of the mini arc of Volume 5: Black Arms and a Promise Remembered!
Intro: The Earth... is a great place where humanity and all other creatures live and learn to evolve little by little, but this great world has Darkness in it too. Evil beings who wish to conquer this world and everyone.
Only one being stood against them to show everyone the power of light and hope, but this great mythical dragon wasn't able to stop them. He gave his powers and hope to a human that was known by his name, the Dragon Knight!
Before this hero also met his end, he gave the legendary Dragon Sword and his hopes and dreams to the next knight, to his youngest son who is destined to become a legend by the sides of his comrades and his love. This hero... is the Dragon Knight!

Volume 5: Episode 27: An Everlasting Promise! Yugi VS Shadow!
In the previous episode of DKR:
Team Dragon Knight and the Freedom Fighters continued their struggles against the Black Arms while the Jackal Squad were able to handle Shadow with teamwork but unfortunate were all but slaughtered by the new leader of the Black Arms, killing all but Zero graved injured.
Meanwhile Yugi and Jonouchi continued their duel against Aigami and through teamwork and trust between both friends, Yugi managed to bring out both Legendary Knight version of their dragons to turn the duel around. However Aigami still proved very dangerous with two copies of Crimson Nova the Dark Cubic Lord. Still not defeated, Yugi and Jonouchi showed their bonds as they summoned forth the powerful Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon. With the unstoppable ultimate magical swordsman of potential, the two defeated Aigami.
Being a sour loser and confident, Aigami taunted Yugi that he won't be able to save the black hedgehog. Still unopposed, not willing to give up on his friend, Yugi headed off believing in the bonds he's made. Jonouchi wished him luck as the tricolor head went off alone.
Will Yugi be able to save Shadow?

Taking him back to the others, Ruby arrives with Jonouchi to everyone else, beating the Black Arms regardless of their numbers.
"Look who I found!'' Ruby calls out happily, pushing Jonouchi forward playfully. He chuckles waving at the group who most wave back, especially Sailor Moon.
''Where were you?'' Kurosaki asks the obvious with Judai still noticing someone is not present asking. ''Also Yugi-san still missing.''
Jonouchi nods as he explains his part. ''Yugi is off to find Shadow. And guys, you won't believe who's helping those space aliens.''
The group blink assuming it was the Dark Lord even though Sonic protested since Eggman would have shown up long ago announcing his return and ego. Jonouchi sighs, telling them it was Aigami.
''That Aigami again?'' Danny questions, surprised that that guy is behind this. Ed grunts annoying complaining. ''That guy doesn't quit!''
Alicia nods as well as his aim towards Yugi. Sailor Moon also agreed, asking out loud. ''Why is he so obsessed for Yugi-chan?''
''That's a good question.'' Ichigo mutters really puzzled about it too.
Ryan blinks not having any clue who this Aigami was and this whole deal. The Freedom Fighters feel the same way not having any idea who this other human was.
''We gotta go find him!'' Naruto proclaims energetically that they have to help their friend. The others agree about it too.
Judai also agrees… though he recalls his past mistake when Johan went missing during the first conversation against Yubel and how his obsession to save him got everyone else captured and to kill him. Yugi is doing the same thing, again… but like with Kojan, he's thinking and trusting everyone else.
Jonouchi eyes this group, cracking a smile that Yugi made a bunch of friends during his time as the Dragon Knight. It shows some things don't change, most of all Yugi's power to connect to others.
''I would agree with you guys… but we have to leave this to Yugi.'' Jonouchi, for once using his head, puts his trust on Yugi to help that edge-lord of a hedgehog. The group startles with Alicia questioning his decision. ''You sure?''
The darkened blond headed nods, stating pretty sure. ''I believe in my best buddy! If Momomiya was here, she would too.''
Sailor Moon nods with arms crossed that her cousin would put her trust in Yugi too.
Sonic lets out a chuckle speaking up loudly too. ''You're not the only one.''
The rest of the Freedom Fighters are startled partly by him too.
''Sonic, what if Shadow doesn't become himself?'' Antione questions if their old ally becomes an enemy then they will need to stop him.
Sonic nods certainly, declaring. ''I know Shadow and I know Yugi too. I believe in them.''
Ruby groans slightly, wanting to speak up and ultimately does loudly. ''I also believe! I believe in the Undefeatable Dragon Knight!''
The others sweat drop but smile that at least she speaks her heart. Ryan smiles until he looks up in the sky and alarms the group with a worrying face. ''Guys.''
Everyone looks up and sees more Black Arms ships descending from the sky. Kurosaki sighs wanting a break but well it was a short break.
''Well…'' Naruto begins to say, slamming his right fist into his left palm. ''Round 3!''
Sally rushes to the infirmity, having been told that Zero was found within the castle, seemingly teleported in it but none of his teammates present. She approaches the doctor and asks him. ''Is he awake?''
The doctor nods explaining it to her. ''He should have died ma'am but he's recovered fully. Well partly recovered.''
He whispers that he took major damage to his right eye. Sally frowns, turning to her captain and asks him. ''Has the other scout team found the bodies of Zero's squad?''
The soldier frowns, nodding. He got the report from the scout team that Zero's teammates were found all dead. Sally frowns now walking up to check up on him.
Zero stared at his reflection within his room, seeing a still recovering, large white scar across the right side of his eye and no eyeball present. He growls strapping an eyepatch over that eye but this scar doesn't compare to the scar in his soul and pride. He lost his teammates, his family… and mocked like never before.
The door to his room opens and Sally walks in, frowning to see the wounded jackal.
''Zero…'' She mutters while walking in the room. Not saying anything at first, still staring at her reflection while seeing hers, Zero finally speaks up. ''Did you find them?''
Sally frowns, nodding. Looking down, saddened, he then asks her with a dark enraged look in his eyes. ''Did you find that bastard?''
''You need to rest-'' Sally changes subject not wishing for him to strain himself but Zero turns to face her and demands firmly. ''Where is it? Where is the gem?''
The chipmunk princess could tell he is acting obsessed about it so she told him. ''We're studying it. You appeared out of thin air here because of it. If it's like a Chaos Emerald then-''
''I wish to be alone.'' The jackal immediately tells her off, turning his back. Sally frowns walking back to the door. She opens to leave but not before telling him kindly for his loss. "… I'm sorry.''
She walks out the room, closing the door behind her. Zero is alone in silence… but he wasn't happy to be alive. All he wanted now was revenge. Only revenge and he knew how he could gain that revenge.
Rouge and Omega continue following their lead as the robot detects Shadow's Chaos Energy.
''Shadow is close by. Stay on alert.'' Omega alerts his team leader. Rouge nods, flying with caution. Soon the duo emerges into a small center of the forest, confronted immediately by Shadow walking almost mindless with his eyes looking down.
''Shadow!'' Rouge utters out sounding somewhat relieved he's okay. He didn't seem to hear her though. Rouge approaches but Omega stops her, his eyes glowing having been studying his mental state and confirms. ''Shadow's brain waves are not normal. Approach with cautious.''
Rouge nods flying right in front of his way. The black hedgehog then stops his blank eyes facing her.
''Shadow, it's us. Do you recognize us?'' She asks him hoping her voice and face might help. Shadow doesn't say a word but instead swings his arm at her, firing a Chaos Spear right at her. Not surprised by this, Rouge ducks as Omega dashes forward and bashes the spear of energy with his right arm.
''I'll take that as a no.'' Rouge mutters, not at all surprised. Omega begins analyzing Shadow with his eyes flashing as he proclaims robotically. ''Analyze confirms that Shadow is under a kind of mind control. Non-lethal force will be used.''
Rouge would agree with him but she knew better. She knew this could happen so she needs to accept it. Breathing, she orders the robot instead. ''Omega, as much as I'm happy that you care, use half lethal force and if necessary go crazy.''
Omega turns not showing any type of emotion but he is surprised in his circuits, knowing Shadow is his comrade. Regardless, he must do what Shadow would ask of him.
The robot twirls his wrists switching them with his Gatling machine gun hands.
''Affirmative.'' The robot accepts Rouge's orders, taking aim with his machine gun hands. Omega proceeds to fire a barrage of bullets and missiles at Shadow who zig-zags around the assault and comes at the robot with a Chaos Fist, slamming Omega back.
Omega brushes off the hit before charging forward, spinning his body rapidly as expelling intense flames from his weaponized hands like a tornado. Shadow repels the flames with multiple Chaos Spears, causing an explosion… until Omega uppercuts him up high. Shadow is sent flying up as suddenly Rouge dive kicks her boot onto Shadow's back, slamming him hard onto the ground.
Rouge hovers over Omega, telling the black hedgehog as he gets up. ''That's enough Shadow! We know you-''
Shadow suddenly teleports right in front of Omega and he performs Chaos Punishment, striking Omega with a barrage of kicks and punches. Rouge intercepts as she and Shadow clash fist to feet, both trying to outdo the other. Forcing her cards, Rouge distances herself taking flight but not before releasing orb-like bombs onto Shadow, causing him to dash around the explosion.
Omega, brushed back by the assault, immediately fires powerful beams from his hands that Shadow blocks with Shadow Guard but the beam doesn't stop firing, slamming the protected hedgehog through multiple trees before slamming him onto a rock wall. But the beam was still firing on Shadow with the barrier between them… but the dark barrier of Chaos power was starting to come apart.
''…'' Omega does not say a thing as he concentrates his firepower onto the shield, melting it before coming at Shadow, consuming him before exploding on impact.
''Shadow…'' Rouge mutters sadden watching and hoping he's-
Omega suddenly gets blasted by the chest by Shadow, using Chaos Nightmare. Omega stumps backwards with heavy damage on his chest.
''Omega!'' Rouge utters out in shock as she's suddenly kicked by Shadow, hitting her onto a tree. Shadow had used Chaos Snap to evade the blast from consuming him.
Shadow then unleashes Chaos Ball, hitting Rouge still stunned by the surprise kick and paralyzing her with its Chaos energy. She gasps dropping onto her knees. She watches helplessly as Shadow approaches with a murderous intention.
''Shadow…'' She utters as Shadow comes charging for a Homing Attack, preparing to finish her off. Rouge couldn't watch closing her eyes. She's failed in saving her friend and now-
Just then she hears something move in and then a THUD. Rouge opens her eyes and startles as Shadow's attack is repelled back by a kick from none other than Yugi, panting heavily using Dragon Speed Burst to pull it off.
''You…'' The bat utters surprised he even arrived. Still panting, Yugi finally yells out at his friend. ''Snap out of it, Shadow-kun!''
Shadow gazes coldly with Yugi staring back, his purple eyes fixated towards Shadow's blank red eyes.
Will Yugi be able to awaken Shadow to who he is?
Commercial Break:
Ruby: If Jonouchi and Sonic believe in Yugi, I will too!
Yugi: I came to save Shadow-kun, for him, for Ichigo-kun. for everyone else and for myself! I won't turn my back on any of them!
Breathing deeply, Yugi arrived just in time having sensed Shadow's unsettling possessed aura. Even Rouge sighs of relief for his arrival.
"Good timing boy.'' She tells the tricolor head. Yugi agrees with a smile as he tells her and Omega. "Leave the rest to me.''
Rouge would protest that idea but other than Sonic who could keep up with Shadow, she has to put her trust on him. She flies to help Omega from his injuries.
Yugi faces back at Shadow, sensing he's all messed up. His aura tainted as if he's a puppet with strings under someone's influence.
''Shadow-kun…'' He mutters angry at himself for not stopping this sooner. Atem appears behind his partner, telling him telepathically. ''You were not late, partner; this is all one being's cruel act. What you can do now is save Shadow. So use Yin-Yang Dragon's powers to wake him up.''
Yugi agrees with him… but he realizes something; he needs to save his friend without relying on Yin-Yang Dragon. If he can save Shadow without it, then he'll know if he can truly make up for his failure on Ichigo and even towards Kojan. Besides… he knows Shadow is in there and he needs a friend to reach out to him.
''… I want to try something else. Trust me, other me.'' Yugi pleads with him, wishing to take a gamble. Atem looks at him and nods trusting on him. Yin-Yang Dragon overhears this and also put their trust on him, wanting to see if Yugi can succeed.
Yugi smiles as he looks at Shadow and tells the brainwashed hedgehog. ''It's been a long time since we last had a fight, huh?''
Shadow does not respond as Yugi recalls the first fight he had with him all because of a misunderstanding. He recalled how Shadow was so angry to have regained his forgotten memories, blaming Yugi the day he awakened as a Dragon Knight. Yugi managed to reach him and Shadow soon shrugged it off.
Yugi sniggers slightly admitting not one of his best moments between friends but he was still happy because he got to meet a lone wolf like Shadow, not caring about what others thought of him but doing what he could to help this world and fight those would harm it all for the memory of his dead friend. And that's why Yugi can't turn his back on him.
He looks at Shadow, recalling how much he wanted to avoid a fight with him before but this time it was different.
''I learn a lot from you and everyone else. I know now I can't avoid fighting my own friends if I wish to understand and bridge a bond.'' Yugi expresses thinking about Kojan but also Ichigo since their fight against Deep Blue.
Yugi then adds, staring determinedly at his brainwashed friend. ''But even so, I will believe in the connection that makes us hear our hearts' desires!''
Taking on a defensive fighting pose, Yugi declares. ''Let's go, Shadow-kun!''
Shadow does not react to his response as he suddenly teleports right in front of him, swinging an already charged Chaos Fist. Yugi pulls himself back as he thrusts his palm onto Shadow's arm to move away from him, deflecting the Chaos Fist back as the attack strikes right through a tree.
Yugi then slams his left palm onto Shadow's side, pushing him back hard.
Shadow quickly curls up to perform a Homing Attack at him but Yugi, breathing, stands his ground. He watches it coming and times it right as his eyes temporarily glow, reaching with his arms forward and catches the Homing Attack with his bare hands.
''You'll have to try harder Shadow-kun!'' Yugi comments with a small smirk. Shadow grinds faster as he turns the Homing Attack into Chaos Attack, literally pushing Yugi backwards as he stands his ground. Yugi grunts in pain as his hands were bleeding out and regenerating due to Yin-Yang Dragon's ability. He grunts, focusing and makes a push back before kicking the sphere Shadow with a kick, thrusting the Chaos Attack back to the ground.
Yugi gasps in agony, pretty sure his foot will feel that one as well as his hands.
Rouge watches puzzled on why the human boy isn't using his sword to battle Shadow. Does he really have a plan?
Shadow grunts standing up from the kick as Yugi, chuckling, teases him kindly. ''You've always been strong even when we first met. Just surprise you're not as strong as back then.''
Shadow quickly fires a Chaos Spear which Yugi dodges as he proceeds to fire multiple rounds at them. Yugi evades them using Dragon Speed Burst, doing his best as one nearly cuts him, just leaving him with a scratch. The hedgehog then snaps his fingers, teleporting with Chaos Snap right in front of Yugi and performs Chaos Punishment. Yugi raises his arms in a guard and tries blocking each blow Shadow is delivering him before sending a powerful roundhouse kick, sending Yugi onto a tree.
Shadow then snaps his fingers performing Chaos Magic but Yugi manifests a Dragon Clone between himself and the attack, tanking it as the clone explodes.
Yugi creates two more Shadow Clones coming charging as Shadow lets out a small Chaos Blast, destroying them instantly. The tricolor head moves away fast as the blast destroys the tree too. Yugi pants pulled away, brushing off the drips of blood coming from his mouth.
''Even if this hurts a lot… I know I can endure it.'' Yugi tells himself knowing he can't give up.
Yugi recalls as they were traveling here, Rouge told him feeling bad to even tell him but felt like he should be the one to know about Shadow's past, about how he was created by both Doctor Gerald Robotnik and Black Doom… and about Maria. Yugi never bothered asking Shadow about his friend he cared for; he knew that Shadow cared deeply for her.
But right now, this will be the key to saving the black hedgehog. Getting his barrens, Yugi then declares loudly at him. ''Because Maria-kun would want someone to make sure her friend who she died for to be happy!''
Shadow immediately staggers, grunting as his head starts to hurt. Rouge watches thinking he hit a nerve.
''Remember her promise!'' Yugi reminds him loudly. ''Remember the promise of your beloved friend!''
Shadow grunts in greater pain as a sweet, young voice echoes in his mind. ''Please Shadow, protect the people down there; protect the world that is beautiful.''
Yugi could see he was close. He proclaims placing his right hand onto his chest smiling. ''I promise upon her I too will protect this world you both love. I will do everything in my power to make sure the world and everyone not only become happy but change so we no one like Maria-kun dies like before!''
''Because that is who friends are for!'' Yugi then proclaims clinching on his right fist as it glows brightly like the Dragonaun Knuckle but erupting in greater flames. He comes charging at Shadow who raises one hand firing random Chaos Spears. Yugi ducks and evades them as his fist erupts even more intensely as he immediately grinds his feet to stop right in front of the hedgehog.
''DRAGONAUN GEYSER!'' Slamming his glowing fist upon the ground in front of Shadow, Yugi releases a burst of fiery purple energy in the form of a geyser. The blast shocks Shadow striking him on impact and explodes… though this shock was more than enough to snap Shadow.
His blank red eyes regain their pupils as he suddenly finds himself in a pure white area. Shadow looks around stunned before staring in more shock upon Maria, smiling before him.
Still staggered, Shadow canonly utter out as tears start leaking from his eyes. ''Maria…''
''Shadow…'' Maria replies back, smiling out of joy to see him. Shadow tries reaching to her but her body starts to fade away to his shock. Aware of her short time, she just tells him, smiling. ''Believe in him, like you believe in me and I believe in you.''
''Maria!'' Shadow just utters out reaching further but it was too late as Maria completely fades away.
Regaining his senses, Shadow spins backwards in the air before landing on his feet.
Rouge panics thinking that attack did nothing but Omega has already detected a change in Shadow.
However Shadow staggers realizing where he was. He looks around confused and startled.
''W-where…'' He mutters not sure why he was in Mobius. He was on Earth, was he? Yes, he was then how he is here.
Yugi sighs of relief not expecting that. Atem watches in silence but smiles, actually forgetting that past all of those powers Yugi now wields he possesses a power far stronger than any other; his kindness. Even the two-headed dragon watch, witnessing this power and amazed by it.
The tricolor head walks up to Shadow and asks him. ''You okay, Shadow-kun?''
Shadow looks forward and startles to see him here too.
''You?'' He mutters with Yugi smiling. Rouge sighs as she and Omega walk up.
''About time you're back.'' She tells him with Shadow further shock to see them. ''Rouge, Omega?''
Shadow then starts recalling what had happened to him.
''That's right, I was in the ARK and there…'' He begins uttering, recalling that an intruder was detected in the ARK and there… yes, there were 2- no 3 as he remembers his face, the same boy who helped Black Moon. Gritting his teeth, Shadow states angrily. ''That damn child.''
''Aigami-kun right?'' Yugi asks, certained it was his doing. Shadow nods informing him. ''He was with two others, two others who are dangerous.''
Yugi thinks for a moment asking him. ''The ones controlling those Black Arms?''
Shadow nods firmly. Rouge didn't follow asking him. ''But Black Doom is dead?''
''Not him.'' Shadow however protests firmly. Just then he senses a presence and so does Omega detecting something.
''Ah so you've awaken.'' The group turns by a voice speaking up. They turn and see two figures emerging out of the woods.
''What the-'' Rouge utters taken back by what they were looking at.
They stare towards a Black Arms that honestly slightly resembles Shadow thought he is mostly dark gray/pale purple in coloration, with a white "muzzle", yellow teeth, has red accents along his head, arms and legs, black-colored sclerae that feature glowing amber-like gold irises and thin, serrated black pupils, a classic "devil tail" that is long and slender, with a red accented arrowhead-like tip, a pair of spikes on his arms with the bottom spike being significantly smaller than the upper spike, a single small spike on the back of his legs, three fingered hands, two-toed feet, a pair of small "quills" on the back of his shoulders and a spiked red "mantle" on top of his shoulders. He is somewhere around the size of Shadow the Hedgehog.
The other Black Arms largely resembles Black Doom, having the form of a floating upper body with three eyes. However, he is missing Black Doom's horns and he has an actual mouth. He wears a red/yellow priest-like robes outfit with a blue hood over his head, covering his yellow eyes slightly.
Omega's eyes flashes, scanning them and then confirms. ''Analyze confirms that creature has the same DNA structure as Shadow but more Black Arms while the other is not 50% similar as Black Doom but not the original.''
Yugi has little knowledge of what was Black Doom but he is surprised these were the ones that Aigami was helping.
Shadow glares irritated announcing. ''These bastards jump me and easily overpowered me with that pest's help.''
The figure slightly like Shadow smirks declaring antagonistic. ''Now is that any way talking to family, brother?''
Rouge makes a stunned face towards Omega who nods confirming. ''He is not wrong.''
''What the hell are you then?'' Shadow demands coldly already hating this thing. The creature gladly reveals to him with a smug smirk. ''I am our father's backup creation. You can call me Eclipse the Darkling, the Ultimate Alien!''
Shadow scoffs at his utter nonsense, responding as he points at the Black Doom doppelganger. "Oh really? And that.''
''Our father's other backup if he died, Black Death.'' The creature referred to as Eclipse also reveals. Black Death hums gazing at the black hedgehog, all aware of him as he shares memories of him from Black Doom, their god. To think he died by the hands of this traitor.
''You killed our god and savior Shadow. You should submit to our will and help the Black Aliens for what you have done, traitor.'' Black Death proclaims firmly as his eyes glow. Shadow scoffs only hearing utter nonsense from this freak.
''I'll gladly kill you like I did with Black Doom.'' Shadow states now fully ignoring him as he stares at Eclipse. This is the bastard he wants to make him pay for all he's done.
''You used me, you used Maria's memory and made me hurt my teammates.'' He begins to say only for Eclipse to smirk, not caring. This enrages Shadow as his eyes glow.
''I don't care if you're family or a sibling I never heard of till now…'' Shadow begins to say not believing the crap that they are family; he will pay for what he has done declaring in a threat. ''I won't let any of you live for hurting those I care for.''
Yugi smirks, agreeing. ''Likewise Shadow-kun! Let's settle this!''
Shadow scoffs as the two gazes at the two villains, about to settle this once and for all.
Will the two be able to defeat the Black Arms for good?

Shadow: Brother? Don't make me laugh, we're no brothers.
Yugi: And after everything you did you won't get away with this! Let's finish this together Shadow-kun!
Shadow didn't say much but smirks: Next time in Yu-Gi-Oh! Dragon Knight Reborn: The Eclipsing Enemy! The Bonds of Protecting our Worlds!

Author's Note: Just a simple chapter of Yugi (without using Yin-Yang Dragon's powers) to snap Shadow from his mind control by having him remember why he fights. The real strength of Yugi's greater power: his kindness, compassion and resolve to help his friend though now with the power to back it up heavily. That's why he is the Dragon Knight.
Meanwhile Zero descends and we know where it will lead towards.
