Chapter Twenty-seven: I Guess We Tempted Fate

"I love you, Weiss," Ruby said as she ended the call. Her ears were warm and tickled with sensation. Weiss' voice and the words she used were something else. They inspired Ruby and stirred her soul.

"Ruby!"

The goofy, lovesick grin that matched the mushy feelings Ruby had inside vanished in an instant.

"Ruby!"

"Ugh…" Ruby groaned as she turned around. Jaune was frantically running towards her, screaming and waving like a mad man trying to catch her attention. "Hey, Jaune," Ruby waved with a fake smile, "what's up?"

"'What's up'? That's all you've got to say to me?!" Jaune asked once he finally caught up, breathless and panting like a tired dog. "Where have you been?"

"Around," Ruby shrugged.

"I went to your place on Christmas to drop off some gifts," Jaune wheezed, "but Yang said you were out."

"I was."

That was a good day. A great day! A day that Ruby would remember for the rest of her life.

"I also stopped by on Valentine's day for our annual single's night."

Ruby tightened her grip on her scroll and, in a tone that would make Weiss proud, said, "I'm not single, Jaune. Neither is Penny. And Yang was out with blake."

"Oh…" Jaune pouted, his shoulders drooping, "it was cancelled?"

"We never planned one to begin with," Ruby said, pinching the bridge of her nose.

Jaune took his toque off and scratched his head, frustration building on his brow. "Okay, I'm gunna be real here… it kind of feels like you're avoiding me. I know Penny is… hell, I didn't even know she was seeing someone. I figured she'd still be—"

"What, hung up on me?" Ruby asked, eyes narrowed. Jaune awkwardly nodded his head. "Fine, you wanna be real? Then I'll be real too, Jaune. Truth is, yeah, I was avoiding you."

"Why?" Jaune asked with a heartbroken expression that pissed Ruby off.

"'Why'? Seriously?" Ruby hissed, clenching her fists. "You embarrassed me at my birthday party, harassed my girlfriend in front of all our friends, and to top it all off—you told me you loved me!"

Jaune nervously rubbed the back of his reddening neck and said, "Okay, I'll admit, that wasn't my finest moment… but I meant every word."

"So you intended to humiliate Weiss?"

"No! I just thought…"

"Thought what?" Ruby asked, crossing her arms. "Thought that she was cheating on her wife with me because I seem to recall a certain someone having no problems hitting on her before everyone arrived."

"I didn't see her wedding ring… and if she's a widow, why is she still wearing it?" Jaune countered.

Ruby groaned and said, "Weiss can wear whatever she wants. And I'm not bothered by the fact she still wears it… she wears Coco's ring too… Jaune… I love her."

"You don't know her!" Jaune shouted, taking a step closer. "She doesn't know you like I do—she doesn't love you the way I do!"

"Stop!" Ruby screamed as she pushed him away. A few onlookers glanced their way, but no one intervened. Typical. "Jaune, seriously, where the hell is this all this coming from?"

"What do you mean?"

"Whatever the fuck this is!" Ruby shouted in frustration. "You've never shown an ounce of interest in me until now!"

"Huh? I thought it was pretty clear…" Jaune said, taken aback. "All the times we hung out… the gifts? Our late night talks?"

"What?" Ruby blinked, gobsmacked.

"I've been in love with you for years… I just didn't know how to tell you directly. And when Penny started showing an interest, it became a sort of competition to see who could get your attention—"

"Annnd this is why Penny's ignoring you," Ruby muttered. "You made her really uncomfortable Jaune."

"I'll apologize for that, but we really were competing over you!" Jaune insisted. "We talked about you a lot, exchanged notes, and promised not to interrupt if one of us got to hang with you solo."

"Ugh… yeah, no," Ruby said. "I heard the whole story from Penny. That isn't what happened. Yeah, you guys talked about me… but that was just Penny being Penny. Awkward, sweet, lovable Penny. And before you try and twist it around, she told me all this during a double date. Weiss thought it was adorable."

"So Penny's totally over you?"

Ruby shrugged. "Dunno, she still gets a little gloomy around me and Weiss sometimes, but other than that, she's totally fine—and Ciel's awesome."

"Was she at the party?"

"Lady with the dark hair, blue eyes, spoke with a heavy Atlesian accent?" Ruby said. "She was beside Neptune when you were hitting on Weiss. She was also the one who sat beside Penny."

"Uh… I think I remember her, she kind of snubbed me."

Ruby shrugged. "You're lucky that's all she did. You kind of insulted her boss."

"Yeaaaahhh… about that," Jaune looked away sheepishly. "I told Dad what happened and asked him who his boss was like that blue haired guy said to… I got grounded for, like, a month…"

"Uh, dunno what you're talking about."

"My dad works at Nobility Inc.," Jaune explained. "He was furious… Ruby, how did you even meet a girl like Weiss? No offense, but she's kind of from a different world than us."

"She's more down-to-earth than you think," Ruby argued. "Jaune, can I ask you something?"

"Anything."

"When did you start liking me?"

Jaune blushed, but he answered her truthfully. "Well, a little after Pyrrha passed away… I was still super heartbroken over the fact I never got to confess to her—"

"Wait, what?!"

"Uh, yeah… I really liked Pyrrha back then," Jaune chuckled with a forlorn look in his eyes. "But she was way out of my league."

"Jaune, Pyrrha liked you for, like, a year before she gave up and started dating Yang."

"Wait, what?!" Jaune exclaimed. "When did Pyrrha and Yang date?!"

"Uh… second year?" Ruby shrugged. "Everyone knew, but they were keeping things kind of hush-hush… why do you think Yang was so close to Pyrrha's parents?"

"I thought they were best friends," Jaune admitted.

Ruby snorted out a laugh and said, "Wow, you really didn't know?"

"Really, I didn't," Jaune smiled. They laughed together and shared a few more stories about Pyrrha with Ruby pointing out how badly she hid her relationship with Yang in each one. But the light mood didn't last long. "I missed your laugh," Jaune said with a loving smile. "I missed us—being friends… I missed you, Ruby."

Ruby's laugh stopped cold and her face turned serious. "Jaune, I'm flattered, really… but I have a girlfriend. And, yeah, you've known me longer… but she knows me better."

"What does she know about you that I don't?" Ruby blushed and that was enough to tip Jaune off. "Oh… you guys… right…"

"Not really any of your business…" Ruby muttered. Truthfully, she was still shocked Weiss was willing to sleep with her.

Jaune rubbed the back of his neck again and kicked a bit of snow off his shoe. "Okay, so she knows something about you that I don't—does she know how you like your coffee? Five sugars and cream."

"She knows that's the only way I can drink regular coffee… which is why she only gets me hot chocolate during our coffee dates," Ruby smiled. "And whatever she doesn't know, she will… because relationships take time to grow. And I know I'm going to be with Weiss for the foreseeable future."

"But doesn't it bother you to know she was with someone else?" Jaune asked.

"The past is the past and she's with me now and no one else," Ruby answered plainly. "Plus, if that sort of thing bothers you, then I'm really not the girl for you."

"Ah… guess I'm the only one left in the lame virgin club," Jaune mused. "You think Penny…?"

"Penny definitely lost that shit before me," Ruby snorted. "But this is totally awkward to talk about, so let's move on, okay?"

Jaune chuckled at Ruby's awkwardness, but as the seconds passed, it tapered off until he whispered, "You… really like her, huh?"

"I'm in love with her, Jaune," Ruby stated without a hint of fear or hesitation. "I don't know how to make that any clearer."

"Okay… I get it," Jaune said, head hung low. "But if you can keep Penny around while she still had feelings for you, could you do the same for me? It's cool if you can't, I won't blame you."

Ruby took a moment to think about his request. Her gut said no, but her heart, the one that yearned for her childhood friend's companionship, said yes. And that was the answer she gave him. Jaune looked up at Ruby excitedly with a goofy grin to match.

"Don't make me regret this, Jaune," Ruby warned.

"You won't!"

"And if we're really doing this… you need to apologize to Weiss," Ruby continued. "What you said really hurt her."

"I will!" Jaune nodded. "I really am sorry, Ruby… I should have gone about things differently."

"Yeah, you really should have."

"I'll make it up to you, I promise!" Jaune said.

"Okay, cool… well, I'm gunna get going," Ruby said. "I'll talk to you later, Jaune."

"Huh? But the bus stop is that way," Jaune said, pointing in the opposite direction Ruby was heading to.

"Ah, yeah, don't gotta take the bus anymore," Ruby said. She pulled out her car keys and dangled them in front of Jaune. "I got a car now."

"Whoa… how'd you afford it?"

Ruby blushed and tucked the keys away again. "I can't," she mumbled. "Weiss… gave it to me."

"She… gave you a car?"

"Yeah. She's also paying for all the gas and stuff."

"Whoa…" Jaune mumbled.

"Yeah…" Ruby nodded. "It's still a little weird getting used to it, but the car's made life so much easier."

"And Yang's okay with it?"

Ruby shrugged. "She's been too busy with her new job to care."

"New job?"

"Ah, yeah…" Ruby looked back towards the parking lot and bit her bottom lip. "Look, I wish I could keep chatting, but I really gotta go."

"Oh… okay," Jaune said with a crestfallen look. "Gimme a ride sometime?"

"I dunno if Weiss would want you in her car," Ruby said, taking a step away. "I'll catch you later, Jaune."

"Bye…" he said.

Ruby didn't look back. The conversation made her incredibly uncomfortable. She had given Jaune her word, but Ruby wasn't confident she could keep it. The things he had said and done bothered her a lot more than let on, she honestly doubted their friendship would last.

After taking a deep breath to calm herself down, Ruby drove out of the parking lot and caught a curious sight. A few of her university friends were all crowded around Jaune, giving him pats on the back, no doubt telling him to try again later. Did they all know Jaune liked her? Ruby looked away and focused on the road, not wanting to dwell on the possible secrets her friends kept.

She stopped by Big Belly Burger and picked up a cheap meal. Weiss had grown exceedingly fond of their fries and she often took a few small bites from Ruby's burger as long as it didn't have any pickles. She still refused to drink the soda so Ruby drank that on the way to Nobility Inc. And when she got there, Octavia waved her down and they chatted for a minute before Ruby went to the security desk to greet Fox and Yatsuhashi.

"Hey, guys," Ruby said.

"Hello, Ruby," Fox replied with a smile. "Here to see Weiss?"

"You know it," Ruby grinned. "So, tell me, on a scale of one to ten, how bad is it up there?"

"Hawthorne," Yatsuhashi said plainly.

Ruby snorted out a laugh and said, "Pretty bad then."

Yatsuhashi nodded.

"He's officially been banned from the building," Fox added. "Yatsu had to escort him to his car… we were worried he'd try to key Weiss' car. Again."

"Again?" Ruby repeated with a raised eyebrow.

"When she first took over, he keyed her car and wrote some rather… unflattering words on it."

"Did she have to pay for it?" Ruby asked.

"We had him on camera," Yatsuhashi smirked. "The restraining order didn't stick though."

"Slimy bastard," Fox muttered under his breath.

"That sucks…" Ruby groaned. "Well, at least he's banned now, right?"

"We doubt it'll do much," Fox said with a dissatisfied shrug. "He's like a cockroach. He'll find a way to sneak back in eventually, so we're actually taking bets on how long it'll take."

Ruby shook her head and sighed. "Well, that sucks. But I'mma head up now and see what I can do to cheer up the big boss."

Yatsuhashi and Fox shared a quick look before signing Ruby in and wishing her luck. Luck for what exactly, Ruby didn't know, but any luck was good luck since she used up several life time's worth getting Weiss to date her.

"Hello, gorgeous," Neptune purred as soon as Ruby stepped out of the elevator. "We've been expecting you."

"Hi, Neptune," Ruby smiled. "Hey, Ciel." Ciel looked up from her computer and nodded. "She's not in a talking mood… is she?"

"Oh, honey, you have no idea," Neptune snorted.

"Hawthorne?" Ruby asked, wondering if the cockroach did something to anger the dynamic duo again.

"No," Neptune replied, "try again."

"Uh… Penny?"

The last thing Ruby heard about Ciel from Penny was about their trip to the spa a weekend ago.

"Nope, but nice choice," Neptune snickered. "The truth is, her mother called asking to meet this new girlfriend and Ciel—"

Ciel glared at her co-worker and said, "Mind your own business."

"Snippy," Neptune teased, playfully nipping at Ciel. "It's just us girls here, darling. No need to be shy."

"Whatever," Ciel muttered before turning her icy gaze over to Ruby. "Weiss is waiting for you."

"Cool," Ruby grinned, proudly showing off her burger bag. "French fries and my undivided attention, there's no way Weiss'll end the day with a frown."

"I bet," Ciel muttered as she picked up her phone and called Weiss. "Mrs. Adel, Ms. Rose is here to see you… yes, ma'am, I'll send her in right now… mhm, understood." Ciel hung up the phone and said, "Mrs. Adel will see you now."

"I don't think I'll ever get used to that," Ruby laughed. She let herself into Weiss' office and proudly showed off the food. "Hey, baby, got you a snacky to cheer you up!"

"That's sweet, Ruby," Weiss said as she left her perch on the edge of her desk and sauntered up to Ruby to kiss her cheek.

"Anything for you," Ruby beamed. "Thought you might be hungry. It's—where are you going?" Ruby turned her head to follow Weiss and watched her lock the door. The click the lock made rang out like a church bell and Ruby was reminded of the night she first kissed Weiss. "Baby?" Weiss turned to face Ruby with a sly smile and sexy, half-lidded eyes. "Babe?"

Weiss took the food from Ruby's hand and rummaged through it. "Oh, fries, how thoughtful," she said. "And they're still warm."

"Y-Yeah…" Ruby gulped. Weiss' red blouse showed off a little too much cleavage. "Why'd you lock the door?"

"Why do you think?" Weiss asked as she nibbled on a fry.

"Um…"

Weiss took Ruby's jacket and the food to the coffee table and set them down. "You once asked if I ever got caught doing something 'naughty' in my office." Ruby blinked, recalling the conversation and the burning curiosity it left behind. "Well, I did. I was just never caught."

"Oh…" Ruby gulped again and tried to ignore the growing tightness in her pants.

"Tell me, Ruby," Weiss said as she ran a hand down Ruby's chest, her tone playful and teasing, "have you ever thought about it?"

"Thought about what?" Ruby asked back, eyes glued to the hand that kept dipping lower and lower.

"About taking me in my office?"

"Weiss…"

"Surely it must've crossed your mind at least once." Weiss stopped her exploration and tilted Ruby's chin up with the same hand. "On my desk, perhaps? Against the wall… the window?"

"Baby, what are you doing?"

Weiss shrugged, her lips curling upward into a coy smile. "Be honest with me, ma chérie. There's no shame." She gently pushed Ruby backwards until she fell onto the couch. "You can tell me to stop anytime," Weiss said as she knelt down between Ruby's legs. There was a visible bulge in Ruby's pants now and Weiss made no mystery of what her intentions were.

"Baby, we can do this at home…" Ruby groaned as Weiss palmed the bulge.

"Tell me you don't want me and I'll stop," Weiss said, kissing the inside of Ruby's thigh. Ruby took a deep breath and exhaled. How could she say no when Weiss looked at her like that? "You know I'll stop."

"I-I know," Ruby said, digging her fingers into the couch.

"Do you want me?"

Ruby ran her hand through Weiss' bangs and nodded her head. "I do… but what about Neptune and Ciel, won't they hear us?"

"You'd really have to scream to get them to hear anything," Weiss said as she idly played with Ruby's belt buckle. "These walls were built for privacy, and I have ways to keep you quiet."

"That giant glass window says otherwise," Ruby laughed.

"We can close the blinds," Weiss said. "That's a fantastic idea actually… wait one moment."

"Huh?"

Weiss got up, leaving Ruby wanting, and set about closing the blinds for more privacy. Ruby shifted uncomfortably on the couch while she waited for Weiss, but the woman was taking her sweet time. She was doing this on purpose. Ruby narrowed her eyes and followed after Weiss, catching her off guard with a well-placed hand.

"Ruby?" Weiss tried to turn to face her, but Ruby had her pinned to the window.

"You were taking so long," Ruby said. She wrapped her free arm around Weiss' waist and kissed her neck. Weiss moaned with delight as Ruby nipped at her skin. "You smell so good…"

"Good enough to eat?" Weiss chuckled.

"Mm," Ruby nuzzled her nose against the shell of Weiss' ear. "Your skirts in the way…"

"We can save that for later," Weiss said. She took the hand Ruby had around her waist and guided it down to caress her inner thigh.

"I love you," Ruby murmured, leaving Weiss' guiding hand behind to lead her own exploration. "I love you so much…"

"Ruby…" Weiss moaned, her breath hitching when she felt Ruby's dexterous fingers slip under her skirt and into her. "Ruby!"

Ruby buried her nose into Weiss' hair and breathed in deep. She smelled so good and she felt so warm. Ruby loved everything about the woman writhing under her touch and her efforts reflected that.

Ruby whispered Weiss' name as she circled Weiss' clit with a finger and teased her entrance with another. Weiss stifled a moan and leaned against the blinded window for support, freeing Ruby's other arm to do what it pleased. Ruby took the opportunity to run her hand up the length of Weiss' body and squeeze a breast. Weiss often complained that she didn't have much going for her up there, but Ruby begged to differ. Weiss' breasts fit perfectly in the palm of Ruby's hand, soft and supple, perfect to the touch.

Weiss was so wet it was difficult for Ruby to find purchase during her endeavours, but the constant stream of praise encouraged her to keep trying.

"You're getting so good at this," Weiss moaned between breaths.

"You've given me a lot of time to practice," Ruby replied, pulling Weiss' blouse back to bite down on her neck. Weiss let out a deep bellied groaned, her body tensing as she inched closer to climax. Ruby hastened her efforts and licked the mark she left.

"Again," Weiss demanded in a raspy tone, her thick accent coming through loud and clear. Ruby chose a new spot and bit down harder than the last, keeping her teeth in place until Weiss came. And when she finally did, Weiss slumped against the window with her forehead against her arm, and tried to catch her breath.

"You good, baby?" Ruby asked, kissing the mark to soothe the ache.

"Y-Yeah… yeah, I'm good. Just… just give me a second," Weiss said between gasps of air. "My legs feel like jelly, ahaha."

"I got you if they give out," Ruby chuckled.

Weiss carefully turned to face Ruby and draped her arms around Ruby's neck, smiling contentedly. "So," she said, "what other fantasies are you keeping from me?"

"That wasn't really a fantasy," Ruby blushed. "But if we're being honest… I've always wanted to do you while you were still in your work clothes."

"Oh?" Weiss raised an eyebrow. "Go on."

"And, okay, yeah… I've fantasized about doing it in your office…" Ruby shyly continued, nearly eating all her words. "You just look so hot, especially when you're in a suit and a tight skirt like this."

"What do you do to me in these fantasies?" Weiss asked without a hint of shame. Ruby idly played with a button on Weiss' blouse and glanced back at the desk behind them. "My desk?" Ruby nodded, her blush increasing tenfold. "Okay."

"What?" Ruby blinked.

"I said 'okay,' let's do it."

"No way," Ruby said, trying to backpedal her way out of the conversation.

"Yes way," Weiss laughed. "I want you, Ruby. And if this is something you want to try, I'm all for it."

"No way, nu-uh," Ruby shook her head. "Weiss, I don't wanna risk getting my stuff on your clothes—and you're dressed in black!"

"Can't get anything on me if you're in me," Weiss winked, running a hand through Ruby's hair. Ruby's jaw dropped. "You've been so good to me, Ruby. And as much as I enjoy having you rub against me while we're in bed… I think I'm ready to try again."

"I-I don't have any more condoms on me," Ruby said. "We used the last one in my wallet yesterday."

"Don't worry," Weiss replied, patting Ruby's cheek. "I've been on the pill for a little over a month now."

"S-Still…" Ruby anxiously bit her lip.

Weiss smiled as she kissed Ruby and hugged her. "I'm okay. And… I really want to see how this fantasy of yours plays out."

"You are… insatiable," Ruby chuckled, resigning herself to Weiss' whims. "We've had sex practically everyday this week. How are you still so eager for more?" Weiss shrugged. "Fine. Are you really sure?"

"I am."

"You'll let me know if you're not comfortable at any point?"

"I promise," Weiss laughed.

"In that case…" Ruby hoisted Weiss up like she weighed nothing at all and kissed her. "I am so going to enjoy this."

Weiss wrapped her legs around Ruby's waist and pulled her in for another kiss. "I trust you."

Ruby carried Weiss around to the front of her desk and sat her down gently. She hovered over Weiss for a second trying to decide what to do next.

"What do you want to do with me?" Weiss asked.

Ruby got down on her knee and kissed Weiss' leg. "Everything," Ruby murmured. "I want to do everything."

"Then stop wasting time." Weiss grabbed a fistful of Ruby's shirt and dragged her back up for a searing hot kiss that melted away any hesitation Ruby had left. "I want you, Ruby. All of you. Now give it to me."

"I know I ask this every time, but are you sure you're okay with me being a little rough?"

Weiss' eyes lit up with excitement. "Break me."

"God damn it, Weiss!" Ruby laughed as she undid her belt and pants, eager to get started while Weiss was still high off her orgasm. She pulled Weiss closer and lifted her up only to lay her down on her back gently.

Weiss looked puzzled for a moment, but when Ruby leaned down and kissed her inner thigh, her expression shifted. "You don't have to."

"I want to," Ruby said, continuing her trail of lazy kisses. She hiked up Weiss' skirt until she could see Weiss' lacy black panties and kissed her hard-earned prize. Weiss closed her eyes and spread her legs a little wider, offering herself to Ruby's command. Ruby smiled at this show of submission and slowly pulled Weiss' panties off.

"Look who's taking their time now," Weiss teased as she reached over and ruffled Ruby's hair.

Ruby pocketed Weiss' panties for safekeeping and licked her lips. "My fantasy, my rules!"

"Riiight," Weiss chuckled. "What's next?"

"I put everything you've taught me to good use, that's what's next," Ruby answered without hesitation.

She kissed Weiss' clit while she teased her entrance with a finger. Weiss was still so wet from her last orgasm it was easy to slip in. Ruby desperately wished her finger was her cock instead, but she didn't want to rush. She wanted to savour this moment and erase the gut-wrenching fear she felt the last time she was inside Weiss.

Weiss moaned Ruby's name when she inserted a second finger and asked her, "How long are you going to keep teasing me?"

Ruby stopped what she was doing and looked deep into Weiss' eyes for any signs of fear or hesitation, but all Ruby found was the love she desperately wanted Weiss to vocalize.

Weiss caught on quick to Ruby's dilemma and hooked a hand around the back of her neck to sit up.

"It's okay," Weiss said reassuringly with her forehead pressed to Ruby's. "I want this, and I promise to tell you if anything feels off." She kissed the tip of Ruby's nose and then her lips. "I really like you, Ruby."

"Okay," Ruby murmured.

Weiss chuckled and added, "We talk a lot during sex, don't we?"

"I like it," Ruby replied as she undid two buttons on Weiss' blouse to get a better look at her bra; black and lacy with red roses embroidered on the cups, Ruby's favourite set. "This is all so new to me still, so talking to you is reassuring…"

"I think we've said enough though, what do you think?" Weiss said, giggling softly when Ruby kissed her left breast.

Ruby stroked her length before lining the tip up against Weiss' entrance. Ruby shuddered with anticipation as she pushed herself in and breathed a sigh of relief when she didn't blow her load right then and there.

"You feel amazing," Weiss whispered in Ruby's ear, vocalizing the same sentiments Ruby was screaming in her head. "Keep going."

"You're okay?" Ruby asked, brushing her lips against Weiss' neck.

"Mhm."

"You sure?"

Weiss leaned back and looked Ruby in the eye. "I'm more than alright… this feels right."

"I don't know about 'right,' " Ruby chuckled. "We're in your office."

"That's why it's so exciting!" Weiss grinned. She playfully ruffled Ruby's hair and pulled her in for a kiss, giving Ruby that last little push she needed to feel comfortable.

Ruby started slow to gauge Weiss' reactions and, as an afterthought, the sturdiness of her desk. It was weird. Ruby was living out one of her greatest fantasies and yet she couldn't stop worrying about accidentally knocking over one of the photos Weiss lovingly placed around her workspace. What if they broke one? What if—Weiss touched Ruby's cheek and called her name.

"Huh?" Ruby blinked.

"I asked if you were okay," Weiss said, smoothing Ruby's hair back to see her eyes. "I'm beginning to miss that silly little hair clip you used to wear."

"Sorry, just a little distracted," Ruby replied with a blush, embarrassed that she paid more attention to trinkets than the woman she was with.

Weiss arched an eyebrow, head tilted back. "What's more important than me in this exact moment?"

"Nothing!" Ruby exclaimed in a panic to reassure Weiss, but her words didn't assuage her own worries. Biting her lip, Ruby looked at the photo frame closest to Weiss and moved it away. Weiss gave her a curious look. "Sorry…"

"Nothing to be sorry for, but what are you doing?"

"Um," Ruby bit her lip, "aren't you worried about the stuff you have on your desk?"

"Why are you worried about something as small as that?" Weiss chuckled. "Ruby, the only irreplaceable thing here is my time with you."

"I'm being silly, aren't I?" Ruby let out a depressed chuckle and rested her forehead on Weiss' shoulder. "And I also totally ruined the mood."

"Not feeling it?" Weiss asked as she ran her fingers through Ruby's hair and kissed her temple. When Ruby nodded her head, Weiss kissed her again and said, "It's okay, we can stop here if you want."

"Are you sure it's okay? You're not mad?" Ruby asked, ashamed she failed to meet Weiss' expectations.

"More than alright. And why would I be mad?" Weiss smiled. "If you're not into it, you're not into it. You respect me on all my hard no's, so it's only fair I do the same."

"It's not a hard no for me though," Ruby sighed.

"Still caught up on what happened before?" Weiss asked guiltily, hitting the nail right on the head.

Ruby worried her lip and nodded her head. "I think so, but I've also got some other things on my mind today." She pulled out and shyly turned around to sort herself while Weiss redid her blouse and hair. "I'm really sorry…"

"Don't be—hey, I believe you have something of mine?"

"Oh!" Ruby quickly fished out Weiss' panties and handed them to her, though they were a little crumpled now. "Sorry."

"Stop saying sorry," Weiss huffed in irritation as she slid off her desk. Ruby kept her back turned to Weiss to give some privacy and spent that time mulling over her thoughts. "Hey," Weiss cooed, draping her over Ruby's shoulders, "I can practically see smoke coming out of your ears. What's wrong?"

Ruby held Weiss' hands with one of her own and smiled. She loved it when Weiss held her like this. She felt warm and safe, like nothing could touch her as long as Weiss was there—just like the red blanket her mother used to tie around her neck like a cape whenever it came out of the dryer.

"Ruby?"

"Ah, sor—nope," Ruby said, cutting herself short. "No more apologies because I'm scared these arms of yours'll become a noose."

Weiss snorted out a laugh and kissed Ruby's neck. "You are far too precious," she said. "And smart. Definitely smart."

"Thanks," Ruby grinned.

"Now tell me what's bothering you before I squeeze it out of you."

Ruby shrugged and said, "Maybe this was just a little sudden… I wasn't expecting this sort of thing from you."

"Even though you once asked if I've had sex in my office?"

"Yeah… okay, well, I never thought you'd wanna do that sort of thing with me," Ruby replied, embarrassed by her own impudence.

"And why not?"

Ruby shrugged again. "I'm not… really all that… um, sexy?"

And just when she thought she couldn't fuck up even more, she did. Ruby buried her face in her hands and groaned. She wanted to hide under a rock and live the rest of her life out as a hermit. But Weiss—beautiful, perfect Weiss—knew just the words to make Ruby feel better.

"Why would you think that, Ruby?" Weiss let go of Ruby and stood in front of her, prying Ruby's hands away so she could see her face. "I am so attracted to you that I can barely keep my hands off of you, what makes you think otherwise?"

"I know I'm not bad looking." Ruby averted her gaze and mumbled, "I also know you're fine with my… with Crescent Rose—"

Weiss snorted out a laugh, but she quickly caught herself and covered her amused smile with a hand. "Sorry."

"Ughh… look, I'm really dorky and awkward and super inexperienced," Ruby continued despite the fire threatening to engulf her face. "I'm nothing like Coco, so I figured—"

"I'm going to stop you right there," Weiss said with an angry look on her face. "I've honestly lost track of how many times we've had this conversation before, but if it'll bring you some peace of mind, I'll repeat myself until I lose my voice." Weiss cupped Ruby's face and stared deep into her eyes. "I want you, Ruby."

"Weiss…"

"I want you because you're sweet, funny, and kind. I want you because you're so full of hope. I've never once seen you give up despite the adversity you faced. And you're so smart that I can't help but want to know more about what's in that beautiful mind of yours. But most important of all, I feel safe with you… because when I look into your eyes, all I see is me." Weiss ran her fingers through Ruby's bangs and kissed her nose. "You won't run off on me or look at anyone else. You have so many people that want you, and you can have them all, but all you want is me… or at least I hope so, forgive me if I'm assuming."

Ruby snorted and said, "I love you more than anything in this world, Weiss. There's no one that can take me away from you."

"I know," Weiss smiled, "and that is so sexy."

Ruby pulled Weiss in for a kiss and held her tight, whispering words of undying love with each precious breath. They eventually found their way back to the couch and cuddled while they shared the cold, soggy fries and talked about their day. Ruby told Weiss all about her encounter with Jaune and laughed out loud when Weiss forgot his name kept calling him John.

"This is nice," Weiss said as she took her heels off and pulled her legs up on the couch. She got comfy against Ruby and closed her eyes, sighing in content. "Thank you for being here, Ruby."

"It's no problem," Ruby said, kissing the top of Weiss' head.

Weiss untucked her head from under Ruby's chin and dreamily said, "I really do appreciate you."

"I know," Ruby grinned, feeling proud of the effect she had on Weiss. "I love you," Ruby murmured just before stealing a kiss. But Weiss' kisses were addictive, so it didn't take long for curious hands to start wandering. And soon enough, Ruby found herself on top of Weiss, languidly kissing her neck and undoing her blouse. "I love you," Ruby murmured again, "so much."

Weiss welcomed Ruby's advances without a word of complaint and ran her fingers through Ruby's hair, silently coaxing her for more. What "more" specifically entailed, however, was left up to Ruby's vivid imagination.

Ruby undid her belt and pants as fast as she could with a single hand while the other pulled Weiss' panties to the side. A quiet moan slipped past Weiss' lips when Ruby rubbed the tip of her cock up against Weiss' entrance before slowly pushing it in.

Inch by inch, Ruby could feel the anticipation rising within her, but the immense pleasure she felt was more of an afterthought thanks to the jumbled mishmash of emotions spiralling within her. Would she be able to go all the way, or would something stop her? Ruby was close to losing her cool again, the need to flee nearly impossible to ignore, but Weiss caught on before Ruby could fully panic and, as always, managed to pull her back.

"Come here," Weiss whispered as she caressed Ruby' cheek, her beautiful blue eyes loving and patient.

"Weiss…"

"Silly girl," Weiss smiled, "stop worrying so much. I want you."

"I want you too," Ruby murmured back before she reclaimed Weiss' lips. And as the kiss deepened, Ruby let her mind wander without worry as she made love to the woman of her dreams. The fear and panic that had paralysed her for so long had lost its control over her. Weiss was okay. They were okay. They were finally free.

Ruby ran her hand down the length of Weiss' body, appreciating her lover's petite frame and the warmth that radiated off of her. They had far too many clothes on. Ruby was practically melting and she was really only wearing a t-shirt and jeans. At least her clothes were loose enough to breathe, but poor Weiss was stuck in a tight skirt, jacket, and blouse. How was she not drenched in sweat? Thinking fast, Ruby undid the rest of that pesky red blouse and admired the fresh sight of Weiss coming undone.

God, Weiss was sexy. How did Ruby get so lucky?

"Deeper, Ruby," Weiss quietly moaned as she tugged on Ruby's hair and gripped her shirt.

Eager to please, Ruby began thrusting deeper but maintained her slow, mindful rhythm. In and out. In and out. Ruby savoured each thrust like it was her first.

"Right there," Weiss gasped when Ruby hit a particularly sensitive spot. "Don't stop."

Ruby gulped, her heart racing several miles a minute. She was close. And judging by the impatient way Weiss' hips met her with each thrust, she was too. Ruby took a deep breath and started thrusting harder—faster—making Weiss moan Ruby's name fervently. And Ruby must've done something right because Weiss had stopped speaking in Valese completely.

"Baby, I don't know what you're saying," Ruby said, the tips of her ears tinged red from the pretty words flowing through her lover's lips.

Weiss looked annoyed for a second before she pulled Ruby back for a kiss. The message was clear: no talking.

They were both so close. Any second now.

Weiss broke the kiss and threw her head back with a gasp when she finally hit her peak. But Ruby didn't stop there. She needed more. This was a side of Weiss she'd never experienced before and she wanted to make it last. Weiss was so wet and she was tighter than she'd ever been before. So tight, in fact, it was hard for Ruby to keep her rapid pace going without pause. She was worried she might hurt Weiss by being so forceful and tried to slow down, but Weiss eagerly welcomed each thrust, fully intending to ride Ruby until she came too.

"Ruby," Weiss moaned, her thick accent making Ruby's name sound completely foreign to her, "harder."

At her command, Ruby held Weiss down and fucked her. They were well past the point of gentleness, and Ruby was confident Weiss could handle whatever she dished out. The couch, however, groaned in protest, but Ruby didn't care. If it broke, Weiss can replace it. This was her idea after all.

"Weiss," Ruby grunted, sweat building on her brow. Slender arms wrapped around her neck, drawing Ruby in close. "I love you," Ruby murmured, "I love you so fucking much."

"I know," Weiss whispered, nipping at Ruby's neck. She rolled and bucked her hips in time with Ruby's deep thrusts, alternating between the two without a pattern. The extra variation did the trick because Ruby came a moment later and slumped down on Weiss, satisfied and spent.

"Whoa…" Ruby sighed, "that was… that was a thing."

"It definitely made up for that first time," Weiss chuckled as she kissed Ruby's temple and ruffled her hair. "That was amazing, Ruby."

"Y-Yeah," Ruby managed to say between laboured breaths. "I don't think I got anything on your clothes… I'm pretty sure you drained me dry the other day." Weiss hummed in thought then laughed, unable to deny a single word. "How the hell did Coco keep you satisfied?"

"She couldn't," Weiss replied bluntly before laughing even harder. "The bottom drawer's a thing for a reason."

"Right," Ruby huffed. "God, Weiss, you are insatiable."

"I don't know," Weiss mused, "I'm feeling pretty satisfied right now."

"Really?" Ruby asked with a skeptical look.

"Well, for now at least," Weiss winked. "I want you to stay the night, Ruby."

"Huh?"

"I don't want to wake up to an empty bed anymore," Weiss explained.

"I don't know, Weiss." Ruby got off of Weiss and sat up against the couch, taking the time to fix herself and her clothes. Weiss did the same. "The last time I stayed over—"

"The only time," Weiss corrected.

"Right," Ruby rolled her eyes and laughed. "Chrys wasn't home and she wasn't exactly my biggest fan… we have a good thing going right now. I don't wanna invade her space."

"You're talking like you'll be sleeping on her floor like a dog and not in my bed," Weiss groused.

"You're not worried?" Ruby asked

"About you sleeping in my daughter's room?"

Ruby balked in horror and said, "No! I mean, about Chrys feeling like I'm changing things or taking you away… you're barely home as it is. I don't want to take anymore of that precious time away from her."

"While I'm grateful for your concern, I'm fairly certain Chrys won't mind you staying the night," Weiss said. "She already goes to bed before you leave. What difference will it make if you're there when she wakes up in the morning?"

"I guess that's true…" Ruby mused, cupping her chin between her thumb and forefinger. "But don't you guys have some sort of morning routine?"

"Not really?"

"Really?"

Weiss nodded. "I honestly think having you around in the morning will do us some good."

"Why?" Ruby asked, wrapping an arm around Weiss' shoulders.

"You've got this vivacious energy about you that we've been missing in our lives," Weiss said as she cuddled up against Ruby. "Ever since Nicole passed away, breakfast feels… well, it feels too quiet at times."

"Do you want me there just to make noise?" Ruby teased.

Weiss snorted out a laugh and crinkled her nose. "No, but we do talk about you more often than not."

"Really?"

"Yes, really," Weiss insisted. "She asks about the next time you'll be over and when the days you'll pick her up from school are."

"Wow, I didn't know that," Ruby said.

"And now that you do, will you consider staying the night?"

Ruby mulled the offer over in her head one last time trying to weigh the pros and cons, but all she could think about was waking up next to Weiss and kissing her good morning.

"Well?" Weiss asked impatiently.

"I'm gunna need a change of clothes," Ruby said.

"About that… I-I'd like it if you leave some clothes at my place," Weiss said. "We can make some room for you in my closet."

"So you can steal more of my sweaters?" Ruby teased.

"If we're being blunt about it, then, yes, I am," Weiss smiled without guilt. "That common sense sweater of yours is the comfiest sweater I have in my collection."

"Don't have any of Coco's sweaters?"

"I do," Weiss said, "but they end up looking like dresses on me and the sleeves are too long." Ruby smiled at Weiss' candidness and kissed her cheek as a reward. "But your clothes are just right."

"Fine, fine," Ruby sighed. "I'll bring some clothes over."

"Perfect!"

"It kind of feels like we're taking a step towards moving in together," Ruby joked.

"Someday," Weiss replied, her nose crinkling.

"Baby steps, right? But for now, I guess I'll go get those clothes," Ruby said, glancing at the clock Weiss had on her wall. "Text me when it's okay to come over?"

"I will," Weiss said.

Ruby gathered her things and left Weiss' office looking like she was on cloud nine. Weiss said they'd move in together someday. That basically confirmed Weiss saw a future for them!

"Aw, are you leaving already?" Neptune asked with a sad puppy dog pout.

"Yeaah," Ruby said, doing her best to pretend like she hadn't just done something incredibly naughty a few feet away. She casually made her way towards the elevator and pushed the button. Casually. Cool as a cucumber.

"You should stay a little longer," Neptune said, resting his chin between his palms. "It feels like we rarely see each other these days."

"Been busy with school, but we should totally hang soon." Ruby stuffed her hands into her pockets and rocked on the balls of her feet.

A bead of sweat rolled down Ruby's neck as she waited for Neptune's response. Seconds felt like hours. And the longer it took for Neptune to say anything, the closer Ruby got to a full mental meltdown.

"I'll hold you to it," Neptune said.

Ruby let out the breath she'd been secretly holding and flashed him a genuine smile. He didn't suspect a thing. Perfect.

"I'll see you later, Ciel," Ruby said when the elevator doors opened.

Ciel looked up from her computer and flashed Ruby a knowing smile. She didn't say a word, but that one god damn look said it all. They knew. They both fucking knew!

Shit.

Ruby spent the rest of the day and a good chunk of the next as a living husk. And Weiss—beautiful, kind, intelligent Weiss—made it worse by saying her assistants were paid handsomely for their discretion. Ruby never wanted to die more than she did in that moment. How was she ever going to look Ciel or Neptune in the eye after this?

"Ruby, are you still worried about yesterday?" Weiss asked in a tired tone. She was lounging in bed watching Ruby unpack her things on the floor.

"Of course I am!" Ruby huffed. "The real question here is how you're so calm about it."

Weiss shrugged. "It wasn't the first time I've had sex in my office."

"Ugh, and they're just okay with that?!" Ruby grabbed one of her sweaters and tossed it at Weiss. It hit her square on the face, but Weiss simply laughed it off and put it on. "You are something else, Weiss."

"Neptune lived with me for years, he knows what I'm like," Weiss said, getting out of bed to help Ruby unpack. "And the discretion clause in their contracts is for more than just what I get up to with my lover… it's for private information."

"I can understand that much," Ruby pouted. "But gimme an example anyway, I like hearing you talk."

Weiss rolled her eyes and leaned against Ruby. "Let's say I catch a cold. Neptune and Ciel won't say a word about it."

"Why not?"

"It's a sign of weakness," Weiss said. "Anything that can jeopardize the way I look or sound to the people around me has to be kept under lock and key. Our relationship falls under that as well."

"Wait, so people don't know we're dating?"

"Aside from Fox and Yatsuhashi? No," Weiss said. "And it's going to stay that way for awhile."

"Why, don't want people to know you're dating a lowly commoner, your highness?" Ruby teased.

"No," Weiss frowned. "If you think this is about the disparity between our incomes, or the families we were born to, then you're dead wrong. Ruby, I like you for who you are." Ruby raised an eyebrow. "But because of what I do and the people I associate with, someone might try to get to you to get to me."

"What do you mean?"

Weiss wrapped her arms around Ruby's shoulders and sighed. "There are awful people in this business. People that'll do whatever it takes to get what they want. It doesn't matter who they step over and pull down… there had been times where people harassed Neptune and Ciel to try and get them to leave me. There have also been far too many people who tried to use Nicole against me."

"You're scared it'll happen to me too?"

"Nicole grew up in this environment. She knew when people were just being nice to get something."

"Are you saying I don't?" Ruby asked, mildly offended.

Weiss shook her head. "No, that's not what I'm worried about."

"Then what?" Ruby huffed. "I can take care of myself, Weiss."

"Can we talk about something else, please?" Weiss pleaded.

"No, Weiss, I wanna know what I should be worried about." Ruby took Weiss' hands and held them to her chest. "You don't have to protect me. If we're doing this, we're doing it on equal grounds." Weiss bit her lip and looked away. "Seriously, what's the worst that can happen? Is someone gunna try and put the moves on me? Because I'd like to see them try."

"Oh, that I have no concerns over," Weiss chuckled, her expression softening. "But, I suppose when you compare what I'm worried to that, the thing that scares me aren't so bad."

"See!" Ruby grinned. "Now tell me. Tell me. Tell meeee!"

"Fine," Weiss huffed. "You are annoyingly stubborn, you know?"

"I'll take that as a compliment!"

Weiss rolled her eyes and said, "I'm afraid of the things people will tell you about me. I didn't get to where I am based on hard work alone."

"Sooo like every other business person out there?" Ruby laughed. "Weiss, I really doubt you did anything bad to get here. And from what I can tell, you still worked hard. Stupid hard. You're also doing everything you can to help the people working for you."

"Ruby…"

"As for the whole keeping us a secret thing, I'll trust your judgement," Ruby said, resting her forehead against Weiss. "I know you don't do things without reason, and I'm sorry if I sounded upset when you said all that."

"Well, it's not like people don't already suspect there's something between us," Weiss chuckled. "I'm not hiding you, Ruby. I'm just not saying anything about you that'll draw attention. I should have made that clearer."

"Was that really all you were worried about?" Ruby asked. Weiss shook her head and sunk into her shoulders, looking guilty. "It's okay to tell me."

"I'm scared you'll leave me," Weiss whispered. "I'm scared you'll learn something about me that'll change the way you see me."

Ruby flashed Weiss a lopsided smile and pinched her cheek. "Your fears are totally valid, Weiss, but that's kind of a common fear in all relationships. Like, I'm terrified of you finding something about me that's a total deal breaker."

"Like what?"

Ruby shrugged. "Dunno, maybe I snore in my sleep."

"I'm fine with you snoring," Weiss laughed.

"Then maybe the way I chew my food?"

"Mouth noises are gross, but I'm willing to live with that. You also look so cute when you eat." Weiss wrapped her arms around herself and sighed. "I'm being silly again, aren't I?"

"No, you aren't," Ruby said, pulling Weiss into her arms. "It's okay to be worried about these things, and it's good you're talking to me about them. Just tell me sooner when things like this happen, okay?"

"You'd think that after being married for so many years I'd know a thing or two about relationships, but here I am feeling like I know nothing at all. You've taught me so much, Ruby, and I… I love that about you." Weiss settled her head under Ruby's chin and sighed in content. "I promise to tell you about the things that scare me if you promise to do the same."

"I-I promise, baby," Ruby said as she kissed the top of Weiss' head and got back to unpacking. She didn't want to make a big deal out of Weiss' little confession and accidentally spook her in the process. And it wasn't like Weiss admitted to being in love with her—just a part of her. A big, important part of her.

A giddy smile crept its way across Ruby's face. This was more progress than Ruby ever dared to hope for. But they only had a couple of hours left before they had to go meet Yang for lunch. If they wanted to get a little more "quality time" in, Ruby would have to pick up the pace. She didn't have time to dwell on the depth of Weiss' words.

"Hey, baby?" Ruby called out.

"Yes?" Weiss said without looking up from her scroll.

"I think I'm finished sorting!"

Weiss pointed to the closet. "Have fun."

Ruby grabbed her little pile of shirts and sweaters and made her way to the closet, eager to get settled in. But when Ruby opened the door, she saw something that made her heart stop.

"You alright, Ruby?" Weiss asked.

Ruby slowly opened the closet door further and stepped aside. "Um… is this Coco's?" Ruby asked, pointing to the perfectly pressed uniform hanging by its lonesome.

"Ah, I completely forgot about that." Weiss got out of bed and walked up to the uniform, staring at it fondly. She ran a hand down its sleeve before taking it off the rack.

"H-Hey, I don't think I ever asked, but what did Coco do exactly?"

"She was a cop," Weiss said, crinkling her nose. "She was so excited to join the force… but between you and me, this uniform saw more action in the bedroom than it ever did on the streets. Anyway, this is going in Chrys' room."

"Oh…"

"I'm a little disappointed you didn't bring more clothes, but we can take this opportunity to go shopping!" Weiss added optimistically, her eyes shining bright. She kissed Ruby's cheek, completely oblivious to the terror plaguing Ruby, and held the uniform tight to her chest like it was a long forgotten teddy bear she loved as a child. "Chrys needs some new clothes too, maybe we can all go and make a thing out of it. Oh, we can get dinner and watch a movie too, what do you think?"

Ruby forced a smile, "Sounds good, baby."

After giving Ruby one last kiss and a playful wink, Weiss left.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit!

Ruby ran a shaky hand through her hair and sunk to the floor like her bones turned to jelly. After all the things she said about deal breakers and working through them together, Ruby never actually thought she'd find one. But there it was, sitting in plain sight. Starched, primed, and perfect. Ruby wracked her brain for any other clues that could have saved her from this mess—Halloween! Her birthday. The night she first kissed Weiss. Chrys was dressed like Commissioner Goldfeather. The badge looked far too real to be a prop.

"God damn it," Ruby quietly cursed, suddenly at a loss for words. She looked up at the ceiling and fell unto her back.

How was she going to fix this?
