Chapter Forty-eight: Snow White

Mai Pov

It's been a few days since the whole incident, I've become a bit stronger, but I still have some difficulties moving normally. Naru has been the sweetest helping me around and giving me therapy, he doesn't leave my side unless he has to go use the bathroom and such.

"What are you doing?" I asked as I have my legs tugged under me sitting on the sandy ground near our hammock. I watch as Naru kept doing push up, which I didn't mind at all.

"Exercising, what else?" He grunts at each push.

I arched a brow while I glance at the sunflower in my hand. Naru gave it to me this morning saying that he was practicing his powers. Whatever the excuse, I didn't mind at all.

"I'm not blind, I know that you're exercising but why?" I lower my hand to look up at him. He stops, holding his weight with his hands, and glances at me.

"I need to keep in shape... Now that we don't have spirits... This island is something else. Anything can pop out of nowhere and harm us."

"How would you know that?" I arched a brow while he kept staring at me.

"I don't, it's a feeling." I nodded at his response.

"You have powers, you can just transport yourself anywhere.." I accused. He started his push-ups once again.

"Huh, that doesn't matter... I need to be stronger. After all... I'm still your guardian." he said while I frowned, looking down at the sunflower.

"Is that so.." I mumbled, touching the leaf of the flower feeling the gentle texture.'

"Let's do something.." I said lifting my gaze, only to see Naru doing sit-ups. He stops midway and turns his gaze at me.

Seeing the sweat rolling down his face, my heart started to race, as my eyes scan his chest. I gulped heavily as I licked my bottom lip. Naru arched a brow when he stops and looks at me.

"Like what you see?" He teased. I blushed, looking down at my sunflower.

"Of course, I like to see my man sweat.." I played along. Naru chuckle causing me to look up.

He jumps to his knees and disappears from my sight. My eyes widen in panic.

"Naru?" I yelled as I felt two arms around my waist.

Turning my gaze, Naru hoists me and kept his arm around my waist. I blushed, looking up at him.

"Where are we going?"

"You look terrible Mai, you need to walk a little and rest," he mentions. I frowned, leaning my head on his chest.

"More or less, but still weak, in reality, I could have gotten some sort of brain damage or something, to make matters great my period came.." I complained. He kept quiet as he bends, and pick up my legs, and hoist me in his arms. I glance up.

"Now, I repeat, where are we going?" I asked. He still didn't say anything, then he stops in his tracks, looking at the horizon.

"Nowhere... I was thinking to kill a rabbit, and eat meat." He whispers.

"Oh, you're lucky that we live as Sasuke and Alice and learned how to hunt and endure," I told him.

"Yes, so it's not that big of a deal, but you lost too much weight. Your paler and your eyes are dim... You need nutrients," he said seriously noticing that he seems very worried about my health.

"Alright."

I wrap my arms around his neck, boasting myself up, I kiss his jawline.

He blinks, looking down at me, and smirks making me smile back.

Then we found myself looking at our bed.

"Hey, leave me at the coast of the ocean. I want to see the view." I complained as he placed me down on the bed. He shook his head.

"No, I don't trust this island. While I'm gone stay here. I'll take you back later." and before I could argue, he leaves. I sigh and so I move placing my sunflower on top of the pillow.

"Stubborn man," I complained standing up. Sudden pain in my abdomen passes through me. I groaned rubbing my stomach, as my legs start to feel it was in fire once again. Walking up towards the glass, I saw my reflection and touch the glass.

"I wonder, what happened to you?" I whispered. Wanting to know the past of the lady and her name.

Turning around, I began to head downstairs, in doing so an odd feeling came down my heart. I shivered, as I turned my gaze toward the window.

I can see the clouds turning dark.

Very strange, it was clear a few minutes ago.

Moving swiftly, I reach the window and look outside, to see the ocean waves moving forcefully as though a storm is coming. My heart began to pound unevenly.

Not again, I have a bad feeling. Then my eyes widen as it dawns on me.

"Naru, he's alone." Turning around I headed towards the door, a sudden dizzy spell came over me I leaned against the wall trying to not pass out.

Then, as I reach for the door a loud horse-like noise echoes outside of my house. My heart jumped painfully.

"Alack?" I whispered pulling the door open, I step outside to see a horse standing at the bottom, looking up at me. My heart jumps from its sight. A sudden rough wind blows past me, moving my hair rapidly.

"Your Alac horse, why are you here? Didn't you pass as well?" I question it. The horse turns his body and points his snout upwards. I follow its snout and saw the trees.

"I came to warn you." Alac voice echoed through the forest. My eyes widen, to turn my gaze at the horse.

"Warn me? About? Wait, I thought I moved you on.." I grasp the door tightly. The horse's head turns towards me, and his red eyes stare profoundly at me.

"Now that spirits aren't on this island, the creatures will come, to collect their payment. You took what is theirs and they want you and your husband. In return, find my head." He says.

"Wait, I don't get it what creatures, no one told us about those and why are you helping me?"

"Because you help me see the truth... I don't like owning back. When I find my head, then I can rest in peace." and with that, the horse disappears. My handshaking and a sudden pain pass my abdomen again.

"Stupid period," I groaned, placing my head on the door. Then my eyes widen.

"Naru!" I gasped out. With strength, I started to head down, without looking, I bump into someone's chest.

"Aish..." I complain, rubbing my head and glance up to see Naru arched a brow.

"I told you to stay put."

"Naru!" I encircle my arms around him, as his eyes widen at my sudden movements. I hold him tightly, as this odd feeling seems to go away.

"What happened?" He wraps his arm around my waist sounding worried. I move and capture his cheeks. Looking straight into his blue eyes.

"I have a bad feeling again. I was afraid of your safety, and it looks like it's going to rain." I told him. Naru glances up but gave a confused look.

"Rain? Is not even cloudy," he mentions while I glance up to see the sky as blue as the ocean. My eyes widen, looking at Naru once again.

"No, it was cloudy, and Alac visited me... He warned me," Now Naru eyes are tightening at the mention of that man. He holds me tightly as I found myself sitting in his lap, on top of our bed. I turned to stare at him.

"What did he say, or want?"

"He still wants his head, and he warned me about creatures. Not sure why." I tell him. Naru sigh and laid his forehead on my chest. I wrap my arms around him.

"Not again, I thought he moved on. What creatures?" he mumbles sounding exhausted. I lay my chin on top of his head, staring at the wall.

"I don't know, he didn't explain and we need to look for it. He's still earthbound because of his head." I whispered.

"I know, I thought, he was able to move on, do with your powers, but not.." Naru said.

"Well, if I was in his shoes, I would too want to know where's my head, and how he died. He did promise to show us. There are still some unsolved issues." I admit. He nods taking a breath.

Then I took notice that there' no rabbit in his hands, nor blood. My eyes soften, as I hold Naru tightly to my chest.

"What happened to the rabbit?" I asked him.

"I saw that it was with a family, but soon I'll go hunting again," he mumbles. I giggled at his childish face when he tells me this.

Does he knows, how innocent and cute he looks?

I press my lips on his cheek and kiss it gently.

"Thank you." Getting up from his lap, again the dizzy spell came over me, that I almost flop down, only to feel Naru immediately take a hold of my waist to steady me.

"Mai?" Shaking my head softly, I grasp his arm to push myself up.

"Sorry... I felt dizzy... My tummy hurts, I hate being a girl right now. Also being dead for a few hours isn't easy." I admit.

I found myself on the outside on top of the rocks, that outlooks the ocean.

"Why are we here?" I asked as I stare at the ocean. Naru waves his hands, and two bananas, appeals, mangoes, and some berries appear in his hands. I arched a brow, as he peels the banana.

"Didn't you said you wanted to see the ocean? Eat... You haven't eaten anything since this morning." He stretches his arm as he lifts his leg and bends it to get comfortable. I took the banana and took a bite out of it.

"So forceful, and so macho." I teased, smiling at him.

"Don't talk with your mouth full." He orders as eats his apple, looking at the horizon. I giggled looking at the water.

"I sure have a strong man, with powers to help me in my time of need, so useful. Should I take advantage of it?" I started to tease him. He turns his gaze at me, giving me a serious look.

"Always, but with the powers, don't get too used to it, I'm not sure if they will work by the time we get out of this island."

"I think so. If your pk does, why wouldn't you others powers? I know, you haven't freeze anything for quite some time now. Wait, unless you use it on me?" I glance up as he gave me a teasing smile.

"It's a mystery isn't it?" he teased while I groaned at his smart remark.

"Mean. You sure like teasing me a lot." I mumbled, biting on my banana angrily. Naru shrugs taking another bite of his apple.

"Just because you're my wife, for a long time now, doesn't mean I still can't tease you. You never heard of the expression, when a boy teases a girl, that means they like them? " He tells me, as he gave me a lopsided smirk. I blushed at his childish taunts, and my heart leaps, shaking my head, as my hair covers my face.

"Aren't we too old to be flirting like this?" I whispered covering my face with my palm. Naru chuckles as he shrugs as I felt him run his fingers through my wild hair.

"Nah, it's fun, we never too old to flirt with each other," he replies. I lower my hand and my eyes widen to see how close he has gotten. His eyes bounce a little making my cheeks turn redder and my heart jump.

"If we stop flirting, then it won't be fun. Remember, we aren't your regular couple." He whispers. Nodding at him as I lean forward to kiss his forehead and then I move back finishing my banana. Naru timidly smiles looking away to look at the ocean.

"Since when we switch roles?" I asked while chewing, feeling Naru shrug.

"Not sure!" He admits, but I can tell he didn't mind at all. Then he cleared his throat.

"As well, you still act like a schoolgirl, blushing at her crush. It's cute... Especially if it's just for me." He added.

"Well, I don't know how to act around you after all these years. You make me nervous and I'm not good at this." I added.

"Ah," he mentions while I turned towards him arching a brow.

"Ah?" I question tilting my head to the side.

He nods as he swallows.

"You're good, well I think you are. We argue like a normal couple and we compromise. We hear each other, and we always find a way around our problems, without covering it, you act perfectly normal around me and it's normal to feel shy at certain points and not shy." he explains.

"You make it sound so easy. Matrimony is not easy, it takes a lot of work." I mentioned.

Naru moves his legs to sit forward, as I move and lay my head on his lap.

Naru looks down and he moves his hand placing it on my tummy and starts to make small circles. He normally does this, since that night years ago.

"I never said it was easy, but at this point after facing death right in our faces, might as well take a day at a time. It's hard to lose someone and you and I know that first hand. Life is short." He admits.

I nodded placing my hand on his intertwining our fingers.

"Yes, that's true." I agree. Then I look up at him to see him chewing his apple as he kept staring at the horizon.

"Do I look better?" I questioned him. Naru glances down and examines me.

"Slightly better." He said. I closed my eyes, to enjoy his slow touch. I lifted his hand, and place my shirt up so he can touch my bare stomach.

"Are you trying to seduce me?" He suddenly asks. I snap my eyes open, to stare up at him. He was serious about that.

"I wish my love, I do, but it feels better when is skin contact... I'm not in the mood for that my tummy aches so bad. I wish for medicine.." he didn't look too happy about my response.

"I know Mai, why did you ask me to make love to you last night, knowing how weak is your body?" he suddenly asks. My heart skips a beat as I tighten my grip on him.

Last night I begged him to make love to me, but he refused to since he was scared that it will harm me.

"To make sure you were real... To make sure, that I'm alive... That you weren't a dream, I'm still in shock of what took place a few days ago." I didn't look at his eyes, as I blushed looking at the horizon.

"Soon Mai, we'll make love, but right now you're recuperating." He assures me.

"Okay, but you told me that you wanted to make love to me when you saw my scar, well since then I couldn't' stop thinking of it." He glances down, and I watch as his cheeks turn into a slight tint of pink. My eyes widen.

"Are you blushing?" I accuse. He shook his head, looking up at the ocean.

"No, it's hot. As you said, it is true, but not enough to cause you pain afterward." He admits. My eyes soften at his words. I lifted our joined hands, and press my lips on his palm.

"You never cause me pain, sure heartaches, but not now. I wanted that. I wanted us to join because at that moment all I was thinking is about you. To feel you... You're my life, and if anything happens to you, I'll go crazy.." I told him. Naru slumps his shoulders.

"Not sure if this is a healthy thing, but I get it. You know, if anyone sees us like this, or hears us talking and if they knew me, they probably think that I'm using some type of drug or something. I can't believe, I'm speaking like some stupid love-struck schoolboy." He tells me. I glance up frowning at his words.

"Does that make you feel uncomfortable?" I was now worried but he sighs shaking his head.

"Mai, I do admit, you have me stupefied to a level of no return. Even when we return to reality, this feeling won't ever change. We are tied until our last breath. Sasuke soul is in me, I can feel it. I am enchanted by you. I can't take you out of my mind, or heart even for a second. You are crazy glue or stronger, that never goes away, or worse." I giggled at his analogy.

"Well, you sure have ways with words. I love you too.. You're my crazy glue too. Oh man, this is utterly ridiculous. We are children." I laugh, feeling happy... He chuckles.

"Now you see my dilemma? Either way, never change Mai, no matter what people say to you, never change. I like the way you are..You always make my day.." he admits to me. My eyes widen, as I glance up.

Naru glance down, as we hold each other hand tightly.

"You said... You like me." I felt tears prickle on the corner of my eyes, at his words. This is the first time, Naru admitted something.

I felt so happy that I wanted to dance and bounce. Naru frowns, as his eyes narrow as though it dawns on him.

"I did." He admits. He lowers himself and presses his lips against mine.

"I like you, Mai." He whispers on my lips. I let my tears roll down my cheeks, as I cup his cheek with my free hand and smiled as I closed my eyes, kissing him back.

"It's so nice to hear that... Thank you… My love."

Naru Pov

"Now, explain to me about the mystery man?" Mai questions me while she sits in front of me inside of the waterfall, taking our evening shower. I scrub her hair.

"Well..." I frowned, moving forward wrapping my arms around her, leaning my chin on her bare shoulder.

"Do you remember what I said?"

"Yes... So it was you… Weird I met your future self. Ha, you were jealous of yourself.." she giggles taking a hold of my arm.

"Hmm," I simply said,

"Then how did you time travel? That makes no sense." Mai questions me. I shrugged at her.

"Ayame helped me, she waved her hand and I ended up seven years in the past. It was strange to see myself." I admit to her. Mai leans against me.

"Ayame, I will miss her, but I can't believe that, but it makes sense, this island makes no sense at all," she said, noticing her tone is sad at the mention of Ayame. I rubbed her arm, knowing that she'll miss her very much.

"So you never told me that he took off his shirt in front of you... I mean me." I correct myself.

"Hey, that was yourself doing that, not me, but that was my guilty pleasure Naru... It was embarrassing to tell you. What you wanted me to say... Oh, by the way, I saw him half-naked and I found myself almost throwing myself at him?" she added making my eyes narrow.

"You were?" remembering that she was trembling as her eyes roam my body... Actually, before that, she does that. Her innocent eyes always watching me, when I'm half-naked or naked, even now, that we are joined, that she knows, the feel of my body as I know hers, she still see me with innocent eyes. The way she looks at me makes me feel secure in myself, that she'll remain by my side.

"Well, I felt something almost doing so." she blushes. I tighten my hold on her.

"It's just plain weird to see you. You haven't aged one bit... It's like that make-up, we tend to grow our hair and nails and my monthly cycle, but that's all." She said.

I cleared my throat.

"I haven't figured that part out, but it seems that time hasn't touch here as well," I admit moving my head a bit so Mai turns to face me.

"Then, why were you there? What was the real mystery?" she mysteriously waves her hand. I rolled my eyes at her, but hold her tight against my chest.

"I found the missing piece of the journal paper." Mai's eyes widen at my words then turns slowly to face me.

"Really?" she asks. I nodded, raising my hand, and tugging her soapy hair behind her ear.

"That red cloth was that red dress I gave you to wear," I explained.

"Oh... That explains the rip, smart you are to give yourself a clue." She praises and my eyes widen at her words.

"How did you know, what I was about to say?" She's doing that a lot lately, Mai shrugs at me, not sure how to explain it.

"I... Put two and two together?" she said not sure how to give me an answer while giving a strange look.

I frowned, as Mai wraps her arms around me.

"What did the paper say?" she asks.

"I'll let you read it," She nods slightly at me and kissed my neck. I shivered as she moves away and rinses her hair.

After finishing, I help her get out of the water and sat her on the rock.

She glances up at me, as I help her get into her dress.

"Why did Ayame place it there?" she asks, as I rolled the dress and place it over her head. I hoist her a little, and place down her dress and help her adjust her sleeves and the bottom.

"Not sure, maybe we'll know later on and as you guessed, it was my mission to give our past selves a clue," I told her as I adjust my shirt and my pants. Turning around, a sudden eerie feeling passes by me.

I glance up at the sky, to see the mid-afternoon sun above, as all of the sudden all the birds and other animals went deadly silent, too silent for my liking, besides the waterfall we could hear.

Mai catches my arm, as I felt her tremble.

"Naru, something seems off." She whispers. I nodded while I gather her in my arms.. She wraps her arms around my neck and immediately moves towards the treehouse.

As soon I reach inside the treehouse, something seems to push us back, that we both be kicked out of our own home.

"AH!" Mai screams as I flew back, hitting the ground rather painfully.

Holding tightly on Mai we rolled to the ground and went to an abrupt stop. Both of us moaned in pain as I lifted my gaze to look down at Mai, she held my shirt and looks at me with fright.

"Are you okay?" I asked she nods at me and began to lay her hands on me, trying to find any injury on me.

At least I shield her, so she's okay. I sigh in relief, noticing that there's no scratch in her as I roam her body.

"Are you?" She asks worriedly while I groaned, rubbing my back.

I stood up and dusted myself, then I lowered myself to pick up Mai. I help her organize herself. She gives me a thank you smile, making me kiss her cheek.

"I'll survive," I assured her turning my gaze towards the treehouse. Mai takes my hand and intertwines our fingers., as we started to walk up the stairs.

"What the heck just happened?" She asks as we slow our steps. My heart started to hammer hard against my chest, as Mai seems to feel unease.

"I'm not sure.." I whispered as we reach the front of the door. In doing so, a sudden cold wind passes by us making us shiver.

"Naru, something is not right... I think there's someone in there." She whispers so no one can hear us.

I extended my hand and lay my palm flat on the door and pushed it open.

Something black moves rapidly inside the treehouse. My heart jumped as I brought Mai to my side to protect her.

"You saw that?" her voice trembles. I nodded taking a step forward, but on doing so, a heavy pulse rushed in me.

I felt paralyzed, then a gush of wind passes through us once again but this time so powerful that it causes my body to be thrown across down the stairs.

"Naru!' Mai yells in a panic I hit my back and I think I hit my head with the railing of the stairs. Then my eyes widen, to see a black shadow go behind Mai. Her eyes widen.

"Mai!" I yelled, waving my hand freezing them on the spot. Ignoring my pains, I pop next to her and took her out, placing her on the bottom of the stairs and then I touch Mai to unfreeze her. She glances up.

"Naru, are you okay? Are you hurt? Wait you're bleeding." She panics, touching the side of my head. I wince at her touch.

"I'm okay, just bruised and a scrape," I said.

"Sorry and Thank God... What the heck was that... It's like they don't want us in our house." Mai shakes looking at the door.

"They?" I question her odd statement, did she get to see what are those? Mai shook her head and turns her gaze towards the door.

"I don't know, but it's they." She admits.

I jump back to the door, taking Mai with me, and then I open the door, nothing happens. this time. Entering the treehouse Mai gasps as she covers her mouth while my eyes narrow.

"Oh my… What happened? Our home it's a mess." She gasps out as our clothes, chests are scattered everywhere as though someone came in and trashed everything looking for something.

I move towards one of Mai's dresses and picked it up.

"Creatures," Mai gasps out... I turned to face her.

"Creatures?"

"That's what Alack told me, I'm not sure." She explains as she bends down, to begin to pick up.

In doing so, I watch her take a hold of her head. Immediately I move to her side, grasping her arm.

"Mai, don't.. I'll pick up and you rest.,. You aren't in no condition to." But she cuts me off, cupping my cheek with teary eyes.

"No, please Naru, you're hurt. I don't want to leave you to clean this up by yourself. I am fine... I'm getting stronger little by little. Thanks to you. Naru I may be weak right now, but not immobile." She assures me.

"I…" I started, but she shook her head, it pains me to see her act like this.

She leans and kisses my lips gently.

"I nothing, I need to clean that wound as well.." She calmly stood and went to get our water supply. She goes to the corner of the room and glances down at the buckets.

"There's a little bit, I can warm it up." She snaps her fingers and fire comes from her fingertips, and place it inside the barrel. I watch amazed, every time she does that. She learned so fast how to control her powers. Then she stands, and glances up, frowning.

About a few minutes later, I sat in front of her as she rinses out the cloth, and moves my hair to the side, and began to clean my wound, causing me to wince.

"Sorry," she whispers while she moves forward and blows on it gently.

I swallowed hard as my heart started to race. Then she moves and kisses my temple and she gets on her knees, she wraps a dry cloth around my head and adjusted with a knot.

She smiles capturing my cheeks.

"There. I think your head is going to hurt as well as your back, I'll give you a massage," she said trying to comfort me. I didn't say anything as she leans down to kiss my lips gently. I felt at ease enjoying this while I thanked her silently for her care, returning the kiss with a gentle matter.

"Don't worry too much about me," I assured her after we separated and I took her hand and stood while I help her.

She doesn't say anything, but her gaze told me everything, 'I will always worry no matter what.' I rub her back gently and then we went to work on cleaning our home, but something in me told me something is off.

"Why would they come here, whatever they are," I asked while Mai gets on her knees, taking a hold of my pants and shirts, and began to fold them. I was flipping over the chests which were overturned.

"Alack said we took something from them. I don't know." She murmurs. Mai kept gathering as I push the chests back to their original places.

"We need to keep this place safe once again. Now that the mirror doesn't have its ability to protect us, anything can trespass." I suggested as Mai handed me the clothes. I place it back in the chest and continue to work around.

"How? We aren't witches or warlocks in your case, to cast spells. We are humans, just with unique powers." Mai said while breathing a little unevenly.

"You should rest," I told her as I dusted off my hands. Mai shook her head stubbornly as she stands, heading upstairs.

"We finished down here, let's check upstairs." She ignores me going upstairs, I follow her watching her every step.

Then, as we reach the second floor, Mai gasps as I stop right behind her. The mirror's broken. Glass all over, the floor.

"Oh my.." she said moving towards the glass and bends down to start picking them up.

"Mai, don't touch that, you'll get cut." I scold but she ignores me once again and kept pulling them up. I bend next to her, taking hold of her hand to stop her.

"Mai, listen to me, you're far too weak, and."

"Stop it.." she hissed looking up at me, my eyes widen at her cold tone.

"Stop it Naru... Stop saying that I'm weak. I know how I feel. Don't constantly remind me, I want to overcome this. I can't keep relying on you in everything. I want to be your help we have no one else but each other. I want to be a strong woman, I can't be brave right now, but I want to be strong. For you, and myself." She pleads with me with sympathetic eyes.

Am I overdoing it? I'm just scared to lose her again.

"I don't want to constantly remind you, but you are, your breathing unevenly, you're pale, and you are moving slow. You can get a fever, so don't push yourself too hard! We don't have a doctor to look over you, as you said, we only rely on each other." I try my best for her to understand it, feeling frustrated by this. Mai shook her head, looking down at the broken glass.

"I… I don't want to be weak Naru."

"Mai… you are not weak... I just CAN'T LOSE YOU AGAIN! and we don't have anyone anymore to help us, so please understand me as well." I screamed, feeling irritated by this.

Mai's eyes widen and gasps at my reaction. Breathing hard, Mai lowers her head, shamefully. My heart clenched.

"Mai, I'm sorry... I didn't mean to scream, I just can't lose you, Mai. Stop being stubborn, and listen to me please, I know I'm being pushy, but..." I stopped talking and cupped her cheek. She shook her head placing my hand down as she continues to pick up the glass. I groaned, covering my face with my palm.

Why is she acting like this?

"I'm sorry... I know... I feel useless. I couldn't even protect you... You constantly place yourself in danger for me. Since the day we met... How can I help you?" she asks me. I felt my eyes water up.

"By listening to me, as you had in the past. You are doing a great job. You always help me, so don't think you don't. Now, " I stood, as I help her stand as well. She looks up at me.

"Watch this little trick," I whispered as I wave my hands and the glass on the floor disappears. Mai's eyes widen in disbelief, turning towards me.

"Where did you place them at?" she asks. I turned my gaze and pointed down. Mai moves, to the edge of the railing and glances down.

"So cool." She praises me as I move next to her and glanced down, to see the glass shards in a corner bundled on top of each other.

"We need to find a way to get rid of them, if we leave it outside, it can harm the animals," I whispered. Mai turns her gaze and leans her head on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry, I snapped, I didn't mean to I just wanted to help you, I feel like crap," she admits. I rubbed her back, leaning my head against her.

"I'm sorry that I screamed again, but I feel frustrated Mai, I don't want to push you either, but I'm scared to lose you again," I admit to her again. She shook her head, looking up at me with tears running down her eyes. I move my hand and wipe them.

"It's my fault, this is frustrating, I don't want us to argue, we just worried too much about each other, that we tend to snap at each other, so let not argue and I'll listen because you're right, we can't afford to get sick or injure. We don't have anyone anymore, you only have me, and I only have you," she said while rubbing her hand on my back as I did the same. I kiss her forehead.

"I'm glad you can see it, and I know you're scared, so let's try our best." I simply told her. She nods at me.

I wrap my arm around her waist and turn her around facing our bed. I wave my hand, to pick up the blankets and pillow and fixed it up. Mai smiles at me with gratitude.

"Is it safe to sleep in here tonight?" she asks me. I shrugged at her, not sure myself.

"No, but if anything I can get us out fast, right now anything can happen, but we need our rest," I admit to her. She sighs as I lay her down on our bed after I manage to fix it with my power. I lay next to her.

Mai arches her body up and frowns as she stretches her arm up and began to look for something, making me roll a bit and then place me back.

"What?" I asked as she lowered her arm down after she found it. I look at her hand to see her hold the sunflower I gave her earlier.

"The Sunflower, it didn't survive," I saw sadness in her eyes when she stares at the falling sunflower. I frowned wrapping my arm around her making her lay next t me.

"I'll get you another," I assured her. She lowers the flower and looks up at me.

"I don't care... While our safe... Next to me, I don't need a flower." she said, but I could tell she still is sad about the flower. I move to get comfortable but felt my back hurt causing me to wince, but I hid it from Mai.

"Then I'll get you a dozen, okay?" I assured her as I look at her. Mai began to caress my arm, placing a small kiss on my shoulder.

"Then that's a promise." she simply said. I nodded at her, agreeing to her words.

"Sleep.. I'll keep watch," I told her. Mai wraps her arm around my waist and laid her cheek on my chest.

"Don't pretend you're okay. When I get strength, I'll be very useful to you. I wonder, what they wanted?" she asks again. I shrugged, running my fingers through her damp hair.

"Whatever it is, they didn't find it." Mai snuggles more into me and breathed out.

"I'm sorry Naru, I acted like a spoiled child and I'm not mad that you yelled because you're scared, it triggered me back to reality, I forgot for a moment that you're traumatized." I rolled my eyes, placing my leg over her waist.

"You acted what you felt, I would too, snap if you kept nagging me. Now sleep." I admit.

Mai didn't say anything and closed her eyes.

I holder her closer, and glance at the wall, worried.

"Thank God, I managed to save you, Mai, again, I'm sorry, but I can't lose you." I whispered kissing Mai on her forehead. Not noticing that she heard me, and holds me tighter, so scared to let me go.

Mai POV

(Dream)

"Mai!"I heard my name being called from a distance I turned around, finding myself in a large ballroom. Marble all over, and with a large golden chandelier.

I look in front of me to see Gene, with an elegant black tux as he stops in front of me, with his hair brushed to the back, looking quite handsome.

"Gene? Wait, what's happening?" I asked. Gene surprises me by wrapping his hand around me and grasps my arm.

"Ne? What are you doing?" I asked shocked. He spins me around the large ballroom as though we are dancing similar to beauty and the beast style of dancing.

"Your next case," he proclaimed as we kept dancing around, with no music causing me to frown not liking this at all.

"Really? I just came back alive and finished the case, can't I have some time with my husband? and recover?" I asked him. Gene shook his head, as he stops his dancing and let go of me, and points behind me.

I turned, and my eyes widen as a scream escapes me as large stairs appear from nowhere, and ahead rolls down on it.

"Oh, what the?" I shriek grasping Gene's arm, my heart pounding hard. Gene then points at his right. Turning around my body started to shake deeply. There was a body with blood spilling out. A woman stood next to it, crying hard.

"I didn't mean to... It was the creatures of the island..."her voice seems familiar to me. A young woman, with long glorious dark hair. Her skin is white as snow.

"You can call her Snow white if you want," Gene whispers into my ear. I turned to face him.

"Is that the lady of the mirror?" I whispered back not believing this. Gene nods, as I return towards the scene in front of me. The girl snaps her gaze at me in a startling way.

"Take that horse down." She pleaded and then disappears from my sight.

I turned, only to have Gene take a hold of my arm.

"Up north, beyond the village, there's an old mansion. Go for it, and uncover the dark past. Restore balance into this island. Now is the time to learn what happened to the lady in the mirror."

"But Alack said we took something from the creatures, who are they? They rampage our house and what exactly did we take? I don't remember taking anything." I challenge as he frowns at me.

"They have lived on this island before humans inhabited. They were asleep until you awoke them with your powers. They are looking for what was taken from them. Go to the root of this. If you want to leave this island before ten. You and Noll must stop them and get them back to sleep."

"Easier said than done, let them get what they want, whatever that is," I told him. Gene shook his head.

"It's not possible, if so, death surely is upon Alice and Sasuke, thus both of you die." My eyes widen at Gene's explanation.

"Oh no, then.. Why do we need to do in that house?"

"It's some of the answers of what happened to the lady, about how everything began. You and Noll must head out soon, for they will come back. They were looking for the lady, they still don't know she moved on. So they broke the glass, so be careful they are tricksters, and dangerous. Never look at their eyes."and with that, he disappears.

I frowned wanting more information. I glance at the floor and sudden thoughts pass my mind.

"What is the horse? Alack? Or is it something made up?"

...

...

...

"Is that so?" Naru washes his hands in the stream as I finished telling him everything Gene told me. The next day after we awoke, Naru has a slight headache, and his wound hurts, but nothing life-threatening which I was so happy about.

I nodded while I sat on the ground, eating my apple. Naru turns to face me and ran his wet hand through his hair.

"Then if we do this, can we have a normal living pattern?" He mumbles to himself sitting next to me. I stretched my arm and offer my apple to him.

He arched a brow, but moves forward and takes a bit out of it, and began to chew.

I shrugged while I took a bite of the same apple.

"Normal, not per-say, but patterns yes," I admit while I offer my apple again. He once again takes a bite and turns his gaze towards the waterfall and I do too.

"You look better," he admits feeling his hand rub my back, causing me to straighten it, and lean against him.

"Of course, thanks to you. I feel better, sorry about my mood swings yesterday. Sometimes, when I am in my period I have my hormones all over, so I tend to get a little emotional. Don't worry tomorrow is my last day." I felt very bad about that, Naru shrugs, lifting his leg.

"Well, I was at fault too... Forget it... It's all in the past now... Now, let's get this last thing to resolve, and continue to live." He said. I leaned my head on his shoulder, grasping his hand, and began to play with it.

"You're so good and full of patience, my dear loving husband," I told him with the truth. Naru glances at me and gave me a soft smile.

"Not good, just trying my best." He gets up, as he helps me.

"I had a strange dream last night." he began as he takes my hand intertwining our fingers while walking slowly towards our house.

I glance up at him.

"You did?"

"Yes... It was odd. Remember many years ago, when you told me that you had a dream about a woman and a man holding each other and had a baby at hand and you saw them again last year when we had our fight?" I nodded at him. Remembering how warm that felt.

"You had the same dream?"

"Yes, I couldn't see the baby's gender or the mother, but I did saw the father though." He began. I arched a brow a bit surprised by that.

"I was thinking, that is Ayame and John when they had their baby, but that time I saw was you, but I don't remember anymore to be honest," I told him.

"That could be, it was hard to distinguish the faces though. I could feel that the man loves his wife and his child."

"I know, that's what I felt as well. Strange.." I whispered.

"Did anyone said anything to you?" I question him. Naru thought it through before he answers me.

"That it's worth it, everything is worth it," he tells me. I thin out my lips as an idea came to me.

"Maybe it was Sasuke and Alice? They do look like us and they are the original owners of the treehouse, so Sasuke was helping us?" I admit. Naru shrugs at me.

"Maybe, then shall we go and get this over with, and leave our lives as normal as possible?" I added.

"Maybe, the dream is supposed to lead us, to where Ayame and John's child is? Or some sort of clue? It's worth it? What does that mean?" I question.

I place my hand on my tummy, as a sudden weird thought passes through my head.

"Naru!" I called out, but stop in my tracks, as he turns and arched a brow.

"What?"

"Nothing.." I shook off my sudden silly idea, as I tighten my grip on Naru.

I have my period, so it's silly to tell him what I thought of, but wouldn't it be wonderful to have his baby. I smiled gently at the thought of having Naru's baby and mine, from our love.

"Let's go.." and with that, we went to get ready for our new journey.

O.o

(The Past, years ago)

I stare at the night view outside, placing my hand on the glass, wishing for freedom.

"Poppy, what's wrong?" I heard behind me. I turned my gaze to see my father.

I frowned, placing my forehead against his chest.

"You're going to marry off, and I don't like her. She doesn't seem like a good person." I whimper. I lift my gaze, to see how old my father has become. Gray hair covers his head, as well as his beard and a long sharp nose, his brown eyes soften.

"I need to marry off. I need a companion. Soon you will leave me be, and marry to get our own family."

"Father, I can stay by your side... I don't care." I whimper while he captures my cheeks in a loving fatherly manner.

"You need your own life, Poppy..." I felt a tear roll down my cheek, as I wrap my arms around him.

"I love you father.. I'll try my best... I wish I can stay with you forever." My father gently chuckles, as he hugs me back.

"I love you to my dear Poppy, never forget that."

Thanks for the reviews:

I will change Irene to Poppy from now on for personal reasons. Also thank you for liking my few new chapters... :) I try to keep them in character and show emotions especially Naru's for the lose of someone close to him is to much for him to bear as he already lost his twin. Gene.
