A few nights later Luke, Lorelai and Rory all sat in The Gilmores living room. After the greetings and drinks were taken care of Lorelai took a deep breath.

"Mom, Dad, I have some news. Luke and I are getting married."

The room fell silent and Luke took Lorelai's hand.

"Congratulations to you both!" Richard finally said and held his glass up.

"Yes, Best Wishes Lorelai. When is the big day?"

Luke and Rory braced themselves as Lorelai looked Emily square in the eyes and answered. "Friday June tenth"

"That's four weeks from today!" Emily gasped. "Is there a reason for the rush?"

"Yes. I'm pregnant."

Emily tried to hide her shock and Richard tensed.

"Mr. & Mrs. Gilmore, before you say anything you need to know that I intended to marry Lorelai before we knew about the pregnancy. I was going to ask her next week when we celebrated our anniversary. I even bought a house. This baby just fast tracks a life that I was planning with your daughter anyway. We talked about marriage and kids and our future."

"Well this calls for a toast," Richard smiled as he stood up. "Champagne for us all!"

"Except Lorelai!" Emily and Luke said in unison.

"Right! Four champagnes and one club soda."

They all stood as Richard handed out the drinks. "To Lorelai and Luke, here's to the next chapter of your relationship. Your Mother and I wish you health, happiness and a child as perfect as Rory!"

"I'll take that!" Luke smiled at Rory and clinked her glass first.

"We have lots of planning to do," Emily smiled.

"Mom," Lorelai's tone was stern. "The wedding will be in Stars Hollow, either the town square or at the Inn. I'm not inviting anyone that isn't a part of MY life. Sookie is handling the food and Lane will DJ with her band doing a short set. There's not that much planning that needs to be done. I would love for you to come look at dresses with me BUT I'm not breaking the bank."

"You want me to look at dresses with you?" Emily asked with tears building in her eyes.

"Sure! You're my Mom. And Dad, I would really like you to walk me down the aisle."

It was now Richard's turn to well up, "It would be my honour."

"Great!"

"Dinner is served," the maid of the week announced.

As everyone headed to the dining room Lorelai grabbed Emily's wrist, "I actually know the dress that I want. I saw it in your room when Miss Celine was here for your vow renewal."

"Princess cut, scoop neck with tank top style straps?" Emily smirked.

"YES!"

"Okay Lorelai, I'll back off and not try to take over your wedding on one condition."

"What?"

"You let me buy that dress for you. No knock off, no you getting the pattern and making it yourself, you let me pay whatever I want to get you that exact dress."

"Mom! It probably costs more than my car!"

"I want to pay for that and for the food. I don't care if Sookie is making hot dogs … That's a lie, I would be mortified if you served hot dogs at your wedding. But your father and I should pay for the food. Sookie can go to town and with your permission I will call her and talk about it. But you can have final approval."

"Mom, you're being so -"

"I'm just grateful that you are letting your father and I be a part of this. There was a time when….. You know."

For the first time in years, Lorelai hugged her mother. Rory was watching them from the dining room table and began to cry.

The next morning Lorelai walked into the Dragonfly kitchen to see Sookie on the phone take notes furiously.

"Yes I can do that. Oh, that's a great idea. No we can't do that, because Lorelai hates avocados. Well, it is her wedding. Right. Okay, we'll talk again soon. You too. Bye Emily."

"Emily?" Lorelai asked, "My Mom is on you already?"

"Well, she's not wrong, we don't have that much time," Sookie said as she got back to work. "And she told me to spare no expense. This is the first time in my life those words have been uttered to me. I cannot wait to look into some recipes."

"Hey remember this is Luke and Lorelai's wedding, we don't want to go crazy," Lorelai insisted.

"I know that, Honey. But do you know that Luke has never tried lobster? I mean, come on! He needs to try it. So I'm making some this weekend, you are coming over to try it and if he likes it at all I can use it for the wedding."

"Okay fine, but no giant mushrooms with people dressed as cupid by the dessert table."

Sookie swatted Lorelai with her dishtowel, "I promise that I will not get lost in Emily Land again."

"You can start by going home and resting. You had a baby just a few weeks ago, you were supposed to take some sort of maternity leave."

"I will, I will, I just popped in to check on a few things and take this call from your Mom."

Lorelai walked Sookie to her car, talking about food and flowers.
