Chapter Sixty-nine: Done?

Mai Pov

Tick tock: It's Nine:

"Come on Ayame, stop being fussy," I bounce my five-month-old baby, since I opened my eyes, my daughter won't stop being fussy, I'm not sure why, she's cleaned, and well-fed.

"How is she doing?" Naru asks as he comes up the stairs holding Gene in his arms, patting his small back.

"She hasn't stopped, thank God she's not with a fever, not like last month, which almost drove me mad, I don't know what's wrong with her?" I said very concernedly.

As soon as my voice rang out, baby Gene turns to face me and began to pull his small body towards me.

"Maybe she can feel something is coming?" Naru guessed as he turns to look at his son.

"Want to go with Mama?" I heard Naru asks him as I turned, seeing Naru heading my way.

"You think so? Like Ayame or some other ghost?" I asked him, as Naru finally reached me. Our eyes locked, and simply his blues eyes told me to just calm down, he'll take care of it.

I couldn't help but smile at my husband, he returns the smile as he lowers Gene closer to me.

I rub my daughter's small head and smiled at my boy.

"Hi there, sorry Mama couldn't be with you, your sister is a bit fussy. Do you know why?" I randomly asked my child, but Gene suddenly giggles causing my heart to melt.

"Well, at least you're in a happy mood, unlike your sister." I rolled my eyes, as felt Naru wrap his arm around my waist with his free hand. I turn to look at him.

"Let me try, maybe she wants her father to hold her?" he guessed.

I turned and handed over our daughter to him as he switch Gene with me, you'll be surprised how we've become an expert on swapping our kids without hesitation. We have been learning many skills we didn't even know we had.

If Naru wasn't with me, I would have gone crazy because this is not easy at all, especially when they cry and boy the first few months were rough especially our sleeping schedule., raising children, attending to them every minute.

It's a crazy job, but it is the best. The tender touch of our kids, their laughter, their smell, when they get excited with us when we play with them. I am so in love with Gene and Ayame, which is something I can't even explain, and Naru feels the same.

Oh, that man, no one would have believed how wonderful a father he is. He can't seem to get enough of them. He's not perfect as he's learning, and I'm sure we have lots to learn, but he has a patience of a saint, just like he has with me, plus he loves to play with them, he's like a whole different man around them. The view of Naru playing and taking care of them is a view that costs more than anything in this world.

"Here sit here," I told Naru as I guided him downstairs and I placed Gene in a small playpen that Naru made two months ago surrounded by massive pillows, tied up with the sheets.

"I'll be right back Gene," I told him as I kiss his small head, he began to fuss, but I bend down and kiss his small hands.

"I'll play with you in a few, I have to pick up the scatter clothes, I promise Gene, so be a good boy," I told him. Gene just began to bounce his body, as I stood up.

"Good boy," I told him.

Naru sits on the floor, bouncing Ayame in his arms.

"It's alright Aya, I'm here, Papa won't let anything harm you," he began to say to her causing my heart to warm up.

"You know is still strange to hear you say, Papa, you know that?" I said as I began to bend down to pick up the scattered clothes on the floor.

"How do you think I feel? I still think this is a dream, it's so surreal to have children," he said to me causing me to turn to look at him.

"Yeah, and here we are, they are the center of our world at this point and I couldn't have asked for a better father for my children," I whispered as I move closer to him and began to brush his hair.

"I wouldn't have anyone else as the mother of my children," Naru whispers, as his blue eyes became deeper. I suddenly felt shy under his gaze, he lifts his hand and wraps it around in front of my dress, and gently pulls me down, ready to claim my lips causing my heart to beat wildly. Our breath mingles together, as he inches himself closer to me, driving me crazy from anticipation. It's been some time since we last kissed passionately. I fist my hand, half closing my eyes, aching to feel him, but suddenly Ayame let out a small excited cry, interrupting us.

We both look down, to see Ayame bounces with excitement on Naru's shoulder.

I look over Naru and I gasped to see a young woman standing there looking at us.

"Was Ayame waits for her?" I whispered as I stare at myself, my younger self which I recognized my clothes from the first day I came here.

Wait? This looks familiar. I blinked, confused by this.

"Ayame?" Naru asks me, but I shook my head and straighten myself.

"Where am I?" I heard myself ask causing Naru to straighten his back.

"Mai?" He calls out, turning his head, and his eyes narrow to see my past self. I began to pat Naru's shoulder.

"Now I remember, this what I saw in my dream, remember I told you about it when we first arrived here on the island, I saw a woman and a man holding a baby?" I said as Naru turns to look at me.

"I do it was when we first spoke about love, so it wasn't a dream," Naru said

He remembers that? I suddenly blushed hard, causing him to smirk at me in a teasing matter.

"Oh, it's me, my… Oi, it's my dream, so it wasn't a dream." I said now making sense out of it. Naru gave a side glance and I made eye contact with my past self.

This is so weird,

"Who are you?" My past self asks me.

I don't remember much about the dream, so I spoke first to my future self which is me?

"Have you just arrived on the island?" I question myself. She nods at me as I gave her a soft smile.

"It will be a rough patch, don't let go of Naru at all, you two will need each other, it's worth the journey and sacrifices, just hold on, can you do that? I promise you, it's worth it." I told her, now remember the rest of the conversation. She nods as Naru lifts his gaze and gives me his soft smile of agreement.

"It's worth it because you're alive with me," Naru said with such sweetness, and honesty that it move something in me, and I was about to kiss him, dangerously close to his lips, when Ayame suddenly squealed causing us to break from our spell and I lift myself to see myself gone.

Ayame turns to look at me and her father, she looks a bit sad.

"Oh maybe she felt that you were coming from the past, thus she was fussy all morning?" Naru asks as slumps my shoulders.

"You think? Can she tell the difference?" I asked as Naru stood up, and wraps his arm around my waist pulling me into his embrace. I place my hands on his chest and stare at his blue eyes, feeling our hearts hammering hard against our chest.

"You look exactly as you did nine years ago, you haven't aged a single day Mai. Remember time stopped on this island, which includes our aging. Even though we are almost thirty, we still look like teens." He said as I cup my cheek.

"Well then, I don't have to worry about botox," I teased causing him to chuckle.

"You don't." He chuckles as he leans down and nuzzles the crook of my neck, making me cup his cheek, leaning into him, half closing my eyes.

"Our girl is unique, I'm not ready to see what other gifts she has nor Gene," I said as Naru kisses my neck, separated from me, and turns to head towards Gene.

"With time, just like today, come, let's play with the children before they go to sleep," he said to me as I licked my lips.

"Good girl, you were waiting for Mama didn't you?" Naru said as he bounces her gently causing her to close her eyes and a small loud yawn pass her small lips. I watch as Naru bends on his knees and frowns as he sees Gene soundly asleep. I watch as he places his daughter next to her brother.

Naru slumps his broad shoulders in disappointment, I walk behind him and bend down to wrap my arms around his shoulders.

"Don't be disappointed my love, when they awake, we can play with them. I have to give my time to Gene as well." I said to make him feel more at ease. Naru places his hand over my arm and rubs it gently.

Slowly he stood up as I let go, and he turns to face me.

"Naru?"

"It was nice to see your past self," He admits as he encircles his arms around my waist and we began to sway back and forth in a slow matter.

"Oh? You always see my past self," I said as I turned to look at his forearm, running my fingertips up his skin, feeling him shiver.

"While I see your future self, that's strange too be honest." I giggled as he nods at me.

"Right, strange really," he admits as we continue to slow dance, not sure why.

"I have to finish putting our things away and..." but Naru waves his hand, picking up our mess, causing me to look around.

"What mess?" he asks, causing me to giggle.

"Forgot you could do that," I admit causing him to arched a brow.

"I do that all the time," I felt his fingers beginning to caress my lower back causing me to bite off a delightful moan.

"Right," my mind turns blank as he continues to tease me, then he suddenly stops and I pout in disappointment.

"Ne Naru?" I watch him take a step back and begin to undo the first few buttons of his white shirt. Excitement boiled in my blood as he pulls me into his embrace once again. I gave him a cockily smirk and run my fingers through the edge of the shirt.

"Let's hurry before the twins wake up," he mischievously rose both of his brows causing me to blush.

"Oh?"

The next thing I knew, I'm laying down on the ground as he places me on top of his chest.

"Good night," he said with a yawn and all I can do is burst out laughing, causing him to look at me and arched a brow.

"What's so funny?" he asks me. I began to rub his chest and then bury my face in the crook of his neck, and kissed it a few times.

"Our fun time has reduced to sleep. I miss the times when we didn't have to feel this tired." Naru went quiet before he answered me, suddenly he turns towards me, and buries his face on my chest, snuggling deeply.

"My love?" I look down as he takes in a big breath.

"Sometimes just being like this is enough, sleeping in your arms." he simply said as I began to feel his breathing becoming softer as though he's drifting. I wrap my arm around my husband and kiss the top of his head.

Poor thing, he does so much for me and now for our babies, he barely has time for himself. It's hard, so hard without help.

"I wouldn't change anything Naru, now that I understand my words. It's worth it, being with you Naru is worth it."

"Did you have to bring the babies?" I groaned to Naru in a worrying matter while Gene slept on my shoulder and Ayame peacefully sleeps on Naru's shoulder.

It's been a few days since we saw my past self and now we are back in front of the dreadful Mansion that almost cost our lives.

"It's not like we have other options, Mai," He grumbles as we stood in front of the burnt mansion.

"I know, but what if she comes," I whispered hurriedly, grasping Naru's hand. Naru looks around the tree.

"I'll pop you guys back, okay." Naru bends and kisses my cheek for assurance, but I look straight at his face.

"What about you?"

"I'm still your protector, so it's my job."

"Mine as well, and."

"You are Mai. You protect me, and our children and that's something that I can't even repay you with."

Naru pov

I watch my wife walk in the middle of the front yard. Memories of that night rushed in my mind, as I place Ayame and Gene down in a canasta that Mai built them (Took months to build using bark trees and some material from home.) and covered them with thick quilts.

Then I place the basket on top of a ledge of a boulder, making sure it's sturdy so It won't fall over.

"We'll be right here, so don't worry," I whispered to them, kissing their small heads and turning towards Mai.

I can already feel her nervous, as she rubs her arms. I move behind her and snake my arms around her, placing it under her breasts, feeling her hands on my arm, as she leans against me.

"It's been five months already," I whispered to her, feeling her relax in my arms. I place my chin on the side of her left shoulder.

"Hmm, five months ago, we became parents. Four months ago we were able to see Gene." She said in a dreamy voice, noticing that her voice trembles a little. I press myself more into her.

"Eight months, since we last made love." I teased, not noticing that my voice had a longing.

Mai turns her head and kisses my cheek.

"Geez, look at who is not counting down the days, not the place Naru," she said in a trembling voice, as I turn to see the desire in her eyes as she stares at me, causing my chest to tighten.

"I know, but it calmed you down, didn't it?" I teased. Mai's eyes widen, but then she relaxes.

"You mean, but can we just get this over with, so we can go back to normal?"

"Normal is that a thing for us?"

"I mean… Never mind." She blushes, but I suddenly felt her, pinning herself more into me closing her eyes. A smirk passes my lips, placed my hand under her shirt, and began to rub small circles on the flat of her stomach, causing her to moan.

"Ne, N… Naru," she gasped out as I just look in front of the old mansion, ignoring her protest.

I can't believe it, I thought it would be different after she gave birth, but on the contrary, I want her more than I ever did. She drives me crazy, not only to make love, but to just do this, hold her in my arms, and just get lost in her and enjoy her company. My love for her has grown deeper than ever and I never knew it would feel like this.

"Let's do it then." I brought about. Mai's eyes widen, turning to face me.

"Here? In front of the babies, I told you I…" I turned to stare down at her and gave her a questionable look.

"Well, I see your mind is in the gutter, I meant the mission," I told her seriously, but inside of me, felt giddy. Hell, right now, I would tear her clothes right off her.

Eight months have been too long already for me.

"Oi," she blushes madly and turns around to ignore my gaze. I laugh, as I place my hand on her shoulder, to make her feel more at ease.

"You're not the only one Mai." Mai covers her face but nods at me.

"You're too much."

"No, being truthful."

"Thank you."

"For?" I cross my arms, as she suddenly leaned her head on my shoulder and wrap her arm around mine.

"For keeping your promise."

"Promise?" I asked, confused by this. She nods, as she shyly looks up at me.

"To always wanting me, even after I gave birth and for always helping me no matter my beloved husband." She said with such sweetness causing my heart to swell and boy can she feel it, causing her to press her hand on my chest where my heart lies and smiles even more as I place my hand over hers as I kiss the top of her head.

Mai pov

I cleared my throat as I took a step back trying to compose myself from Naru.

He places an assured hand on my back and rubs it gently.

"You can do this, I'm right behind you and the babies are in the good distance," he whispers to me. I nodded and cleared my throat and snap my good fingers causing fire to appear at the end of each fingertip.

"Relax," Naru places his hand on my arm rubbing smoothly causing me to relax from his touch.

"I'm scared, that she'll hurt the twins," I admit. Naru gave me a stern reassuring look.

"I'll place them in the Treehouse if that happens. Don't worry Gene knows what he means," He assures me. I bit my lower lip, and slip my hand down and grasp, his to lace my fingers with his.

Which he gladly accepted and held my hand tightly.

"Okay." I look up at him and smiled at him. He smiles back at me and turns towards the burnt mansion.

"Let's do this." He breathed out.

Closing my eyes, I breathe in and out, trying hard to do this last mission. The weeping lady.

I don't know how long it went, but the silence seems to become our companion at this moment… My heart beating hard and a knot formed in my throat.

"Poppy?" Naru suddenly calls out, interrupting the silence. Nothing happens at first, just a deadly silence that disturbed me. I licked my lips and I called out.

"Poppy? Can you please come to us?" I begged her.

A sudden gush of wind appears out of nowhere, making our clothes and hair move with it. Naru wraps his arms around me to keep my dress from being too revealing as he lifts his gaze causing me to lift my gaze.

"Naru?"

"She came." He points in front of the tree. I followed him and I can see the weeping lady floating next to the tree, her face almost ashen, deep sunken sad eyes, which tore my heart.

"She so sad," I whispered, holding Naru tighter.

He did so wrong towards her.

"Poppy!" Her sad eyes landed on mine as soon as I called out for her.

"We came here to help you."

"You promise, you promise to help me." She suddenly starts to cry, a piercing scream that Naru and I had to cover our ears.

"We are sorry, please; let us help you move on," I begged her. The woman shook her head and rapidly moves up to me in a floating matter. I jump from fright at her sudden action.

"How?" she asks with a ghastly voice, then she turns her gaze towards Naru, only to have her neck make a crackling noise quite disturbing.

"By giving you freedom. Snow White had her happy ending, you can as well." I assure her. She didn't look convinced at all.

"We help everyone move on, it's your turn," She turns back at me and shouts.

"No!"

"We already sent William and Ester away, please, Gene told my husband, that he's waiting for you, you need to let go of your anger and forgive." I pleaded.

"No, they."But she was cut off.

"Go in peace," Naru suddenly moves up, taking a hold of my hand, then he flips my hand to show her my old wound.

"Look, this is the proof that bastard has paid, he harmed my beloved wife, so we made sure he would leave this place forever. Please trust our words, it's almost been two years Poppy." Naru added with a bit of bitterness from the memory as Poppy looks down at my wound and a tear escapes her.

My beloved wife? Oh, Naru, but be hard for him.

"We already took revenge on your behalf." Naru's voice is calm and collected. Poppy looks straight at him, then at me.

A strange sensation runs down my hands, and my eyes widen to see a light appear from nowhere and began to surround her. Poppy ashen face and sadness began to slowly change into a peace.

"Thank you." I gave her a sad smile, feeling sympathy for her. Poppy lets a tear drop down to the ground and nods at us.

"I can feel the truth. Thank you again." She bows, then she lifts her gaze once again after her bow.

"Tick tock, tick tock, it's Nine," she whispers as a smile appears on her lips, and the light consumed her, making her disappear from our sight.

"Rest in peace," I whisper, feeling Naru holding my hand tighter.

I breathe out, as I turned to face Naru.

"Now why weren't the others this easy?" I complained, placing my forehead on his arm. Naru frowns, looking down at me, rubbing my back.

"To make our life a living hell," he said a bit dryly as I slump my shoulders.

"How delightful, now I'm sad, that we will never get to know what happened to Shibuya and Hayato."

"Maybe one day," Naru whispers to me. I smiled, looking up; I get on my toes and press my lips on his cheek.

"Thank you, my love. We finally finished," I said.

A silence appeared over us, as those words I just utter out hanging in the air. Blinking rapidly, I let out the subdued laughter.

"We are done," I told him with a squeal as Naru nods as it finally dawn on him as well.

"My love we are done!" I choked out as fresh tears began to come down and I began to jump up and down.

"You heard my love, we are done!" I kept repeating since I couldn't believe it.

"I heard you, Mai," he said as I jumped, but suddenly Naru surprises me as he grabs my arm and pulls me into his embrace, and gives me a soft warm hug, bringing me into his warm chest. His arms in a circle around me and lean down. I wrap my arms around his midsection and rub his back.

"You did it, Mai, you manage to free everyone from this hell hole island," he said as I shook my head.

"I did nothing, we did it, together. Nine years we finally finished the case."

"Case Black Lagoon is finally over," Naru said as we held each other.

"Are you sure?" I asked as he moves to look at me.

"No, but whatever else destiny has for us, we will deal it together right?" he asks.

"Always Naru, always," I said breathlessly as I jumped him, and hugged him tightly as he held me the same way.

Finally, after so many years, we finished this long, exhausting journey which made us grow and become wiser, still learning, but we can't live without each other.

"Let's go and celebrate," I said to Naru as I turn my head to look over at him.

"Where?" He asks as began to caress his cheek with my nose, as I press my body closer to his big one, oh how much I love the feel of his big body against mine.

"Anywhere Naru," I told him as we lock eyes.

"Alright, it's a date." He whispers as I cup his cheeks and bend down to kiss him, which I've been aching to do so for so long, as our breathing mingle, aching, the cry of a monkey burst out through the forest causing us to groan in frustration as it broke our moment.

So close, darn that Monkey.

Naru lets go, looking disappointed, but summons the basket that held our babies. I look down to see them resting peacefully. My heart warms up at my two loves when I felt a warm kiss on my cheek accompanied by a loving nuzzle.

"I'm so proud of you Mai, you have no idea how much," he said melting me completely and I couldn't help it.

"As I Naru, I love you so much, that I would die for you," I said with sincerity.

Naru gives me a strange, passionate look causing my knees to grow weak as he cups my cheek, causing me to lean against his palm, closing my eyes.

"Me to Mai, I would give my life for you," he whispers, knowing that his words are true.

Deleted Scene

Naru Pov (Four months before, after Gene left,)

"I'm glad that Gene came over," Mai said as I sat on the ground while Mai brushes my hair.

"I am too, how was your talk with him?" I asked her as Mai glace over her right to see our first-month-old twins sleeping on her bed.

"Good, we had a deep conversation, I feel bad, but what can we do?" she asks as she wraps her arms around my shoulders, and leans her cheek against mine. I leaned against her and rub her arm.

"I don't know what to say," I admit to her as she closes her eyes.

"My love remember the conversation we had not that long ago?" Mai asks me.

"Which?" I began to kiss her arm as Mai smiles tenderly at my gesture.

"If we return you'll remember it, or I will." I blinked, confused by this as I turned to look at her.

"Are you that scared that one of us will lose these memories?" I asked as I brush her short brown hair away from her face. Mai nods at me, as she cups my cheeks after placing the comb down on her right.

"I don't know why, but I keep having this bad feeling Naru and I don't like it, and you know when we have this type of feeling, it means something bad will happen," she admits to me. I licked my lips and cup both of her cheeks.

"Whatever happens, we will stick together Mai. If we face hell here, going back would not change us. You are mine as I am yours, no one will separate us, nor one of us will not lose our memories if you do as I told you I will fight for you. I'll make you fall in love with me once again and no matter how long, I will wait for you to remember me."

Mai pulls me into a tight hug and sits on my lap as I wrap my arms around her.

"Same, I will as well, I won't be shy," she said causing me to chuckle.

"Good, I don't want my dear wife to be too shy," I told her seriously. Mai blushes and she moves away to look at me.

"I love you," she said as she kisses the top of my nose, then lowers herself to give me multiple tap kisses on my lips causing me to return it with pure desire and love.

I love you to Mai.

"As I Mai, with every fiber of my being," I told her as I move back and rub her arm.

Mai smiles at me, but I could tell she still is worried about something.

"What did Gene say?" I asked.

"Geez, you're too darn smart for my liking, well, as always, giving us hints here and there, but he did say something extra about after we leave the island."

"What is that?" Mai thins out her lips rubbing her palm against my arm, not sure how to explain it.

"Mai?" I pushed. Mai scoots closer to me, wrapping her arms around me and rubbing my back.

"That I may never recuperate the movement of my fingers as it's been too long to get treatment since the nerves are very damaged." my heart broke by this, as we were having faith that she can regain some sort of movement.

"Mai I'm sor..." but Mai places her index finger on my lips to stop me from talking.

"Will that make you love me any less? Or make you feel guilty?" She simply asks me. I shook my head as she smiles at me.

"Good, and I decided to take a hold of that knife, if it wasn't for that, I would have lost you and that's worse than anything in this world, I can't live without you Naru."

"Mai I have a question," I asked as I grabbed her injured hand and gave it a small kiss as these emotions played with me.

"Hmm?" she licks her lips and kept staring at me with tender, loving eyes as though I'm the only precious man in this world. If only I could see the way I look at my wife, anyone would be jealous.

"Is it healthy to be this deeply in love with each other?" I asked her. She shrugs her shoulders but began to caress my cheek with her nose, pressing her body against mine, driving me crazy. I half-closed my eyes, trying to control myself a bit.

"Oh gosh hope so Naru, why do you ask?" she asks a bit confused as I held her arm gently pulling her closer as I cup her cheek and begin to lean forward, our lips barely brushing against each other. She licks her lips, feeling her shake.

"Because I will go mad if you're not next to me Mai. I'm a mad man that can't live without you and that's scary Mai because I would die, I will die if you're not next to me, so I'll take care of you, we'll figure something out with your fingers. Those are mine to guard Mai. Every scar, every pain is mine as well, so it can remind me in the future that the love you have for me is pure and that I should never forget it and love you even more than I ever had as my scars and pain are yours as well. I know very well I will never meet anyone else that will love me the way you love me."

Mai pulls me in with tears in her eyes, capturing my lips with her hot ones, feeling her warm fingertips caress my cheeks as she began to kiss me deeply, taking my breath as her tears mingle with our passionate kiss.

"I won't change anything for the world."
