Chapter Seventy-One: Pure
Mai Pov
Dream
I stood in front of a hospital, which felt strange for me to see at this point in my life. I look around, not sure what to look for since there's no one around besides lots of abandoned ambulances parked around.
Eeriness went through my bones, causing me to rub my arms.
"Where am I? I haven't seen a hospital for over nine years. This is strange, not the first thing I wanted to see." I whispered when I felt a hand on top of my shoulder causing me to jump in fright. I turned to see Gene looking at me with a content look.
"Gene!" I shout jumping into his arms, but instead of receiving me, he takes a step back and shakes his head, and turns to point on my right. I blinked, confused by his sudden change.
"Gene?" I question, but follow anyhow.
To my surprise, I saw an older woman and an older gentleman facing the hospital, wearing normal formal clothes.
"Hello?" I took a step forward, causing the two couples to sprint at this point in my dream.
"She can't be with him. She will be the cause of death of my son." I heard the woman say as she speeds away. I was about to ask, but I felt my body being sucked into the hospital, and the next thing I knew I was being thrown across the room, slamming painfully against the wall.
"Ouch," I hissed, using the palms of my hands to lift myself, only when I lift my head, I saw the woman from before staring at me across the main hallway of the hospital.
Oh No! Gene, where are you?
Fear overshadows me as the woman with ghastly pale skin, sunken deep hole eyes, and long dark hair, that reaches to her waist. Similar to Sadako (The girl from the Ring.)
A chill ran down my spine as the woman extends her pale arm towards my way.
"I told you, you won't be with him, she doesn't want you to be with him, and I'll make sure of it," she said to me in a deep demonic voice causing chills to run down my spine, yet, her saying I can't be with Naru was the worse for my heart.
"I can't be with Naru?" I barely said, my throat becomes thick, on the verge of crying.
She opens her mouth wide enough and lets this inhuman scream, causing me to cover my ears. Then I watch in horror her blood began to drip down her neck, and slowly the skin ripped into two, that her head almost came off.
I let out a scream when I felt something warm run my neck. I cover my neck and lift my hand to see my blood. My eyes widen in pure horror.
"I won't let you be with him," with that the woman disappeared as I felt another painful stab on my lower abdominal. I look down to see a knife sticking out of me. I fall to my knees, and the pain took over me.
No, I can't die, not again, I can't leave Naru or my children behind. I don't want to die!

"AHHH!" I awoke from my nightmare, drenched in pure sweat as Naru scoots me into his arms without questioning it, and wraps his arms around me.
"It's going to be fine Mai, it was a nightmare, no one is going to harm you, I'm going to protect you." Naru tries to calm me, as he rocks me into his chest. I held him tight, as he begins to rub my back trying to ease me since I'm shaking violently.
I told him what happened as best as I could, but my words are a bit choppy since I couldn't control myself too much. Naru was patient, and listen carefully as he carefully brush my tears away.
"Then... Then... Why is this happening Naru? Didn't we already establish this? Why does everyone want us to separate? Is our love that hateable to everyone? We don't harm anyone, isn't our love worth it? " I was crying uncontrollably shaking hard. Naru kisses on top of my head and shakes his head.
"No, our love isn't hateable Mai, I can't speak for the others, but I think our love is pure Mai. The love you have for me is one of the purest I ever encounter, that people or ghosts can't seem to understand. If it wasn't worth it Mai, then I had wasted nine years of my life with you and you know how much I value time." He explains to me, looking very worried and serious about this.
"Do don't have to listen to someone that want's to harm us, listen to me, I'm the one and you're the one that decides if we should continue to be together or not, not a third party. I'm your husband, and you're my wife, no one else can say otherwise," he explains to me, as he held me tighter. I breathed out, finally calming down.
He's right, no one has a say on this besides us.
"Mai I need you to be careful alright, we can't do much until we reach back home, so for now you have to endure these dreams, just like the past."
"Nothing new then," I said as Naru brushes my sweaty hair.
"This time you have to think of our children Mai, you're not just by yourself, you are a mother and a wife. You have a family that needs you, I need you.." he said to me. I nodded at him, as I wrap my arms around his shoulders, and pulled him into a hug.
"Thank you," I whispered as I caress him, feeling him nod at me, hugging me tighter, knowing that if he let go of me0 I would fall since I'm so scared to know that his hug could be just a dream.
"Did I awake the kids?" I asked. I felt Naru shake his head.
"No, I was tucking them in their bed, when I heard your scream, so I came down here to see you trashing in your sleep, I couldn't wake you up, somehow I was having flashbacks when you had those dreams being burnt alive." He said hurriedly. I licked my lips and look up at him.
"Sorry," I said, but he shook his head and held me tighter.
"I hate that I can't help you, you already suffered so much as it is Mai." I closed my eyes and held Naru closer to me.
"While I awake from my dreams Naru, and you're here holding me, then I know everything will be fine. I know you will protect me and that alone is enough to help me since you can't do much when I dream." I admit to him. Naru nods, holding me tighter.
"Always Mai, if I could, I would take over your dreams so you don't have to have them anymore."
"Not even my worst enemy do I wish gift on Naru, nor you. Just being here with me is enough my Love and that alone gives me the strength to continue on."

Two months later:
Eight months, our babies are eight months old and we can't believe how fast time is going, to be honest, is not even that boring since there's always something going on.
Even though our time on this island is so short compared to years past, I felt nervous and anxious leaving. As I told Naru before, this place has become a second home for me, which watched us grow becoming what we are now.
I have this feeling there are a few more things that should be wrapped up with Shibuya and Hayato, it shouldn't just be left in limbo as well and it's bothering me, I told Naru about it, and he agrees with me.
"Naru!" I called out a bit anxious while I went down the stairs holding Gene in my arms.
"Yeah?" Naru calls out as I reach him, he's bathing Ayame.
"I think Gene has a slight fever," I told him a bit worried about this.
Naru picks up Ayame from her bath and place her on his shoulder, summoning her small towel, and wraps her small body.
"Slight fever?" He asks me as he turns to look at me while patting our daughter dry, I nodded at him.
"Come closer," he said. So I walked up to him. Naru adjusts Ayame in his arm so she won't fall, then extends his arm to place it on Gene's small forehead causing him to stretch his small body.
I watch Naru check on him for a minute longer, then place his hand over my arm, rubbing his thumb across my skin causing me to shiver.
"He feels just fine, no fever or warmth," he concludes.
"Oh?" I said, looking after my son, only to kiss the back of his small head, breathing out in relief closing my eyes.
"Thank God, Mama was worried my little one," I said while Naru continue to caress my arm.
"Mai, did you sleep last night?" He asks me out of nowhere, taking notice of my panda eyes.
"Err, yes, err, no," I shook my head a bit disappointed. The next thing I knew Naru place his palm against my forehead and his eyes narrow.
"You're warmer than the normal Mai." He said. I slump my shoulders, looking at him.
"I am?" I blinked, confused by this as Naru nodded, as he looks around, as though he's looking for something.
"I got an idea," he said, when he suddenly wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me into his embrace, I arched a brow confused by this.
"Ne Naru?" I couldn't help but lay my head on his free shoulder, the next thing I knew, we were facing our bathing post. I gave him a confused look.
"Why are we here?" I asked him. Naru lets go of me and turn towards the waterfall.
"You need some time to relax,"
"So sending me here will help me relax?" I asked him as I watch him.
"Why no, I just wanted to see you do some chores," Naru said a bit sarcastically as he takes Gene out of my grip, and then places him with his sister on top of a large blanket that he summoned.
"Geez, funny," I told him while rolling my eyes at him as I rub my arms, looking after my children as Naru made a small barrier around them so they won't crawl away.
"Then why did you bring me here?"
"You'll see," he said as he was satisfied with the barrier, then he turns towards me. I watch as he came up to me, and surprises me when he begins to remove my dress. I cover my breasts with my arm as Naru takes off his clothes, now naked in front of me. I suddenly blushed, looking away, but Naru hoists me up in his arms and turns towards the waters.
"I have a slight fever, and you want me to go to the cold waters?" I asked him. Naru doesn't say anything but gently places me down on the waters.
"It can lower your temperature," he said to me while watching him dive into the water and begins to swim. I didn't know what to do, but I could hear our babies play with each other, which brought comfort to me. I was smiling warmly when suddenly I turned to see Naru resurfacing from the waters, running his fingers through his hair, shaking off the excess water, then locking eyes with mine.
Come to me Mai, come to me. He called me with his heart and eyes.
He wants me to get let loose? Oh, Naru!
Without hesitation, lured by him, I dived into the waters, feeling our hearts beginning to race, as Naru dipped down and began to swim towards me. I opened my eyes, to see Naru reaching me, he takes a hold of my hand, we both began to swim underwater without letting go of each other. I'm not sure how, but we ended up having lots of fun, just swimming around. I even forgot about my nightmares, just being like this having fun felt great.
He wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me up to gain air, gasping out, and rinsing the excess water from our faces, as I ended up laughing, not sure why though.
Naru doesn't say anything, but gets closer to me and holding my chin, tilts forward and presses his lips on mine, giving me a soft gentle kiss. Closing my eyes, I ended up kissing him back, not caring about anything anymore, just letting myself melt into him once again.
She won't take Naru away from me, no one else will. He's mine, so this fear is what that lady wants me to have, but I'm sure Naru is worried as well, I can feel it.
I wrap my arms around his shoulders and continue to kiss without holding back, just being in his arms it's the safest place in my world.
Naru Pov
I press my hand on Mai's forehead and breathed out in relief to not find a single trace of fever. I breathed out in relief.
"See Mama needed that deep sleep," I told my twins, as we all lay on the beach as the sun went down, we lay under the tree being careful so we won't get a sunburn.
"GAH!" Ayame screams as I turned to see her crawling to my chest, but stops when she sees Mai laying on my chest.
"Shh, don't wake up Mama," I run my fingers through her small back.
Ayame goes up to my chest and struggles to climb my chest, so I place my hand under her and push her up, then she surprises me, when she gives a big sloppy kiss on her mother's forehead, then lays down on my chest. Gene which lay on my stomach looks up at me and bounces his small body.
"Want to kiss Mama too?" I asked. I lifted my legs to push Gene, and he crawls up, until he reaches his mother, and kisses her hand that lay tucked under her cheek. My heart warms up at these gestures of the innocent love they have for us.
"Thank you for making Mama happy, I love you two so much," I whispered to them, Ayame surprises me and kisses me under my chin, laying her small head down on my chest, next to her mother, and Gene just jumps with joy, kissing my stomach.
"Gah!" he shouts, laying down as a little yawn escapes him.
I couldn't help but smile at both of them.
"I love you two so much, as I am crazy in love with your mother."
Nine years since we've been stuck on this island, and here I am, laying down with my wife and two kids. Who would have thought, I, Oliver Davis will be a husband and father.
I moved a bit, only to feel a warm pair of lips on my cheek, I lowered my head, to see Mai sleepily rubbing her eyes.
"Did I wake you?" I asked her, she shakes her head at me.
"Not really, how long was I out?" she asks, as she lifts herself to spot our babies trying to fall asleep. Mai smiled tenderly at them, so she picks up Gene, and then Ayame into her arms.
"About three hours, how do you feel?" I asked as I sat up. Mai leans against me, pressing her head against mine.
"So much better, I didn't even have a nightmare," she explains. I smirked, rubbing her small back.
"Good to know," I simply told her, she nods at me, kissing my cheek.
"Thank you, I needed that, you know I was wondering,"
"About?" I asked as I get up and grabbed Ayame for her, and help her stand up.
"It's been two months since we last made love, and I'm not pregnant. I mean we are running out of time on this island and soon we will see my past self, I promise you, I saw myself pregnant," Mai looks worried about this.
"Mai, don't worry about it, regardless if you're pregnant or not, your past will come, maybe you seeing yourself pregnant meant something else, remember that this Island is never what it means," I assured her, as we went to our hammock and place our babies inside, making sure they are comfortable. Mai rubs their stomach, and I wrap my arms around her, pinning her against my chest.
"If you want, we can continue to work on having another baby?" I told her. Mai cups my cheek, leaning her forehead against me.
"Do you want another baby?" she asks me. I shrug as I kiss her cheek.
"If that's what you wish, I don't mind, but to be honest, I would want to wait until we leave the island, I'm already concerned by the growth of our children, even though they are a bit bigger for eight months babies, they are small and now that you're having those nightmares, I'm concerned that you can a miscarriage Mai just like last time, we were Bless last year that during our pregnancy there was no hunting," I explained.
Mai turns to face me, giving me a thankful look.
"Oh Naru, I was a bit concerned as well, but if I'm pregnant then I'll be extra careful, but I'm glad you think this way, then that's a plan, so when we make love, we just have to be careful on the days I can get pregnant it's all because with you Naru, I want everything, without filters," she said blushing hard. I couldn't help but blush as she looks down at our twins.
"You know what a blessing in disguise?" I asked.
"What is?" Mai asks as I run my fingers down her arm, getting lost in her warmth, that I couldn't help but kiss the back of her head.
"That our little ones will have no recollection of this place, if they were born eight years ago or so, then leaving this place would be harder for us," I admit to her.
"You're right, I'm sure they will somehow miss it since this place is their birthplace. Do you think that one day we can tell them?"
"Of course, they have every right to know where they were made from every ounce of our love," I whispered into her ear feeling her shiver.
"Let's not traumatize them alright, my love?" Mai said, lifting her gaze and smiling at me.
"Hmm, then what's the point of being parents if we can't traumatize them once in a while?" I was being serious causing Mai to hit my arm gently.
"Who would have thought Naru would be such a tease in this new level?"
"Since I met you, my antics have kicked high Mai, so being mischievous e it comes with the job." I winked causing Mai to burst out laughing.
"Not used to seeing your mischievous side like this, poor Aya and Gene," she said after she calms down. I hugged her tighter, bobbing back and forth.
"I like to spice things up, now, you should go back to sleep. I'll watch over you, do you want to go back to the treehouse?" I question her, as Mai shook her head, leaning into me.
"Let's go inside, I'm afraid if a creature comes and harms the babies," she said to me. I nodded as Mai turns to look at me.
"Naru,"
"Hmm?" I move my hand to brush her hair away from her face.
"When we return, I want to take you to meet someone very important to me," she said.
"Someone important?" I question her, she nods at me, as she slowly lifts her hand, running her fingers through my hair, and slowly began to lower me down, and captures my lips against her, causing me to roll my eyes close, to kiss her the same passionate way. Slowly she gives me small tap kisses as she answers me in between.
"I want to formally introduce the love of my life and our babies to my parents."
One month later: Deleted Scene:
Mai Pov
"So should we teach them how to swim?"
"We can try, I'm not sure how old should we begin them, we just have to be careful though, just slowly get them used to them," Naru said as I picked up my daughter.
"You heard Papa, we're going to teach you how to swim with your younger brother. Come, we'll meet Papa downstairs," I said as I place her in my arms.
"My, you're finally getting bigger my little one, that's a good thing for a nine-month-old baby, oh, my little one soon you'll be one with your Papa birthday," I tickled her nose causing her to scrunch it.
I headed out the door, I heard Gene let out a loud screech of excitement causing me to giggle at his response.
"Come on Gene, be a good boy," I heard Naru gasp out in annoyance and a hint of enjoyment, mentally seeing Gene thinks that Naru is playing with him as he crawls away from him.
"Well, isn't your brother having fun with Papa." I giggled, kissing her small forehead. Ayame gets comfortable in my arms and lets out a small yawn, laying her small head on my shoulder.
"Well, you can take a nap while we wait for our two boys to come out with us," I said as I headed downstairs, only to stop in between the front door since Naru called out for me.
"Oi, Mai, I think Gene is a bit fussy, he won't stay still," I heard Naru speak behind us. I turned to see Gene crawling away from his father.
"Oi, I thought he was playing, he's fussy? Like Ayame was a few months ago?" I asked him. Naru, which finally manages to pick up Gene looks at me.
"Yes, and…." but his eyes narrow as he looks at my dress, as I held Ayame.
"What?" I question his sudden look.
"You look beautiful Mai, but something feels strange, not sure why," he admits scratching the back of his head as Gene pulled his body away from his father.
"Strange?" I murmured, not getting it, as I move to rub my son's small hand.
"Calm down little one, Papa will take you out for your first swimming lesson," I whispered, but then I blinked when something dawns on me.
Swimming? Why does that sound familiar?
A sudden chill ran down my spine when I turned to look down the stairs of the treehouse, and my eyes narrow in shock to see my past self appear from nowhere on the bottom of the stairs.
I squint my eyes, not sure how to progress this.
I haven't aged, this was about three years ago if I remember correctly, wasn't that when Naru left me because he was afraid and I was so depressed?
I watched as my past self makes eye contact with me.
Wait for what I remember, I couldn't see my face that well, if so how come she, I mean, I saw myself pregnant, I'm not even near, since Naru and I haven't been intimate for a few months now, afraid that if I do, I can lose the baby due to the nightmares ghost lady. This is strange.
"Hold on!" I heard Naru speak behind me, just like in my past.
"Gene, stop struggling," He complains as I turned my head to see Naru hunched down, holding in our son's small hands and our baby strangely walking with the help of his father. I giggle at the sight.
Gene can't walk yet, this is strange. Naru caught up and I look down at him. Naru looks a bit unsettled by this, but Gene let out a peal of loud laughter when he made contact with my past self.
"He wanted to walk today," he said, causing me to smile at him with tender eyes.
"Of course, he's excited he's going to swim with his Papa," I said not sure why I found that a bit funny, knowing very well that Gene was excited to see my past self, just like Ayame was. I turned to look at myself, only to gasp in surprise, grabbing Naru's arm for support.
"What?" Naru asks as I point with my head.
"I'm, I mean she's glowing, that's new," I whispered to him so she won't hear me. Naru suddenly smirks at my past self.
"Didn't you know? That's how you look Mai, so enchanted," he said dreamily causing me to blush at his comment as my past self couldn't remove her eyes from Naru and I couldn't blame her.
Naru bends down to grab Gene and place him in his arms, just like I saw the first time. Gene became fussy once again, so I turn to face him and rub his small back.
"Shh, little one, Papa will take you soon," I told Gene, causing him to relax a bit.
"Hello?" my past self calls out, causing us to turn back to look at her.
"John? Ayame?" She questions us.
"You thought we were them?" Naru asks me, I shrugged at him.
"I couldn't see who it was, to be honest, our faces are a bit blurry, also this is when you left me for five days I was very depressed," I whispered to him.
"I apologize, I didn't know how much I hurt you for my stupid decision," he whispered to me, as he takes a hold of my hand and held it tight.
"It just made us grow stronger, we aren't the perfect couple Naru, we have to learn as we age, it's all," I whispered to him, as I leaned forward and gave him a chaste kiss, he returns the kiss and licks his lips as we separated
"Always Mai, no matter what period." He said to me as he stares at me with love, driving me crazy.
"Hello?" the girl calls out once again and took a step forward. So I rip away my gaze away from Naru to look at her.
She's in pain because Naru is ignoring her, how can I help her? I held my husband's hand tighter.
"Tell her to call out for me, since our hearts are one, might as well begin early right?" Naru whispered to me making me look at him wide-eyed.
Call out for him?
"Mai, just call him, he will always come to you, it's worth the journey and sacrifices, just hold on," I advise her since every word I told her is real.
"Apparently everyone knows my name, but calls him? Who, Naru? Who are you two? Do you have something to do with the mirror?" She questions us. My whole being shivers in terror from the memories of the mirror that Naru lets go of my hand and rubs my back to ease me.
"The mirror? It's just the beginning for you both, the key," I replied as my heart ached from the horrid memories.
"Let's go before it gets late," Naru said, trying to change the subject so I nodded in agreement. With a gentle matter, Naru helps me go down the stairs, being careful that I won't trip.
I watch as my younger self couldn't stop looking at Naru, remembering every feeling that moment in my life, which right now I can feel, burning deep in my soul. I can tell you Naru is feeling the same.
Yet, I still remember the way Naru was making me feel that moment in life, does he know how much power he has over me? How he makes me feel just from his simple gaze? Even up today, that feeling has just gotten stronger than ever, an endless wave of love that comes to be stronger than ever.
Who would have thought loving one man this deeply will burn in my soul forever.
Soon we reach the bottom, my past self couldn't help but get closer to our husband and press her hand on his chest. I couldn't help but smile at the gesture as I remember the feeling Naru was giving me at that moment of my life.
"Mai, remember what I told you all those years ago back in the bathing post, soon it will be important," Naru reminds my past self.
"Also, in the mansion, please don't grab the knife," Naru suddenly warns her, I arched a brow confused by this, Mai blinks rapidly, but before she could answer she disappears.
"Did you just warn me to not grab the knife?" I question, he turns to look at me.
"You didn't hear me?" he asks me. I shook my head.
"No Naru, I was in shock, I'm putting two and two together, I didn't hear you warning me about the knife. Oh, Naru, I don't think that would do anything, I would have done it, forgetting your words even if I heard you." I whispered as I cup his cheek. Naru looks so disappointed and grieved, that our joined hearts twisted in sadness.
"My love, I think I have another idea on why I came here at this moment," I told him, Naru cups my hand closing his eyes, leaning into my touch.
"What idea? I think it was good that you learned to call out to me at an early age," he said to me. I nodded, rubbing my thumb across his cheek.
"That no matter what happens when we return in a few months, if that woman wants to separate us, she can try," I began causing Naru to open his eyes to lock eyes with mines.
"What do you mean?" he questions a bit confused, as I took a step forward and began to kiss his jaw, closing my eyes, since I couldn't stop, caressing him. Our joint heart beating like crazy, as his free hand seductively touched my back, getting lost in my kisses. I was beginning to lose my train of thought from his touches.
"That you're my guardian and I'm yours, so no matter what, we can't be apart, just one call Naru, and you'll be there for me. Thank you for reminding me and thank you for trying to warn me."
Naru wraps his arms around me and gives me a tight warm hug.
"I'm glad that you finally understand that, that I'm always going to be there for you no matter what, not even a ghost or any other woman can separate me from you, as I told you, Mai, no one can understand this love we have for each other, our love is pure, so pure that nothing can break it even if they try."

I hope I tied the past and present together. Also, now that we are more ahead, which is your favorite scene with Mai and Naru? Or less favorite scene. My less fav is in the mansion, where William tried to force himself on Mai. I hated to write and the whole scene in general. Luckily Naru stopped it in time.
