Chapter 77: No One
Naru Pov
I opened my eyes to not see my wife or my kids, no I was staring at my laptop, I blinked, looking around feeling confused.
I was in my old office, with the door closed, and I could hear my clock behind me ticking.
Wasn't I with Mai? I was just kissing her. I slowly stood up from my chair pushed it back and headed out, this felt weird, I can't point it.
"Mai?" I called out, but instead of seeing Mai, I see that woman that has been haunting us for months now, appearing in front of me.
"Who are you?" I question her. She suddenly smirks and rapidly came up to me, I was taken aback causing me to take a step back. Yet she doesn't say a word, but to my pure horror, Mai appears next to her, but Mai was strapped down with a white restrain for unstable people.
"NARU!" she calls out to me with tears running down her eyes, trying to struggle out of the restrain. The woman smirks, and to my horror takes out a knife that appeared on her chest and slides it off as nothing, and plunges it into Mai's chest.
"NO!" I screamed as agony and horror-struck my heart.
"I'll make sure you two won't be together much longer, she doesn't deserve you!" she laughs like a maniac, and I move to grab Mai, but both disappear.

I snap my eyes open, sweating hard, as Mai had been already awake, looking very concerned.
"My love, it's alright, it's alright." she takes me into her arms and began to rub my arms. I was a bit confused by this, as Mai takes a hold of my chin and lifts me, to look at her.
"What did you dream? You were tossing and turning and then said No. What happened?" She asks me while she began to wipe my sweat.
"That woman, she was killing you," I admit, shaking my head, trying to erase that image of her, I felt so frustrated by this, we already went through so much. I grasp her shirt, holding it tight, as I leaned into her even more, as Mai held me tighter.
Not again, I can't lose her.
"I think we need to take the case, if not is not going to leave us alone," Mai admits, as I move away from her, and run my fingers through my hair feeling so frustrated.
"I don't' want to take cases, Mai, I just want to live in peace for a few months and deal with our trauma. I can't stand the fact that I have to watch you get hurt again. Everything is vivid in my mind and I can't do crap to help you." I admit to her.
"What do you think I feel my love, I had watched you go through so much as well, without helping you. I don't want to, but what other choice do we have? She won't leave us alone." Mai drops her hands on her lap. I turned to look at her.
She's right, we can't continue to do this. I need to speak to Lin.
"I'll speak to Lin about it," I assured her, she slumps her shoulders, but then surprises me when she goes up to me. I move back as I watch her sit on my lap, wrapping her arms around my shoulders.
"Thank you," she said. I wrap my arms around her, holding her close, closing my eyes.
"Let's just end this," I said, as she moves back and began to brush my hair, with tender eyes, looking at me sweetly, driving my heart wild.
"Yes, and let's cure each other, my dear Naru," she leans down to press her lips on mine, as I submit to her, closing my eyes, when suddenly my eyes widen as she pushed me back, and she gets off my lap, and stands up, clearing her throat. I blinked as the lights turn on and I turned to see Madoka looking very sleepy yawning.
"Mado...Ka?" Mai stutters as I slump my shoulders, sitting up.
"Why are you doing here?" Madoka yawns, with the question.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" I dryly remarked, feeling irritated that she interrupted our almost kiss. Mai sighs, shaking her head.
"I was checking on Naru and the babies, what about you? It's only three in the morning," she said.
"Bathroom, but I heard talking, so I had to check it out," she said.
"As you can see is us speaking," I glance over our kids, and they were sleeping deeply, which I sigh out in relief.
"Go and sleep, I'll be back soon," Mai lies. Madoka nods, waving goodbye, as she turns off the lights and goes to Mai's room. With that, Mai falls to her knees, breathing out.
"I'm sorry, I was startled, if it wasn't for the door slamming close, we would have been caught. I hate this." She slumps her shoulders as I arched a brow.
"I understand, but is not your fault," I admit. Mai groans, crawling back to her side, and lays down, covering her eyes with her hands.
"I hate lying," she grabs my arm and pulls me down gently, as I submit and wrap my arms around her. She snuggles into my chest, closing her eyes.
"I want to tell everyone, that I belong to you, that we are married. Oliver Davis is my husband, and I'm his wife. I want to tell everyone that I love Oliver, that I'm madly in love, and I can't live without him." She said as I look down at her, feeling my heart about to explode, and hers as well.
"Me too, me to Mai," I agreed, as I kiss her forehead. She smiles timidly and presses her hand on my shoulder so she can raise herself and look at me.
"I love you," she whispers causing me to smile, I leaned forward and kiss her softly. She leans down, closing her eyes, wrapping her arm around me.
"Me to Mai," I closed my eyes, as finally, sleep came over us.

I came out of the shower, toweling my hair, Madoka finally left as Lin picked her up an hour ago, luckily I awoke earlier than her, but I feel exhausted since I only slept for two hours.
Today is officially our second day back, and it still feels weird.
"There's no more hot water," I told Mai as I walk out of the bathroom, and headed for the living room. Mai lifts her gaze, and her eyes roam my torso, since I wasn't wearing a shirt, and blushes, looking up at me. I couldn't help but smirk as I went up to her and sat down.
"It happens, just have to wait for half an hour before it returns,"
"Next time take a shower with me, to save energy," I suggested as I blew a kiss to Ayame, causing her to giggle. I picked her up and place her in my lap, to just play with her.
"Oi, good idea, alright," Mai nods, as she looks down at our son, which is breastfeeding.
"At least Madoka left early thanks to Lin, are you ready to go to the office?" Mai questions me, while I tickled my daughter, making her burst out laughing. Mai smiles tenderly as I could feel our hearts warm up. Mai turns to look at me.
"Not sure, it will be weird, to be honest."
"Truthfully, do you still want to have that dinner?" Mai questions me to make sure.
"Not sure now, I think we need a bit more time," I admit as Mai finally finished breastfeeding and picks up Gene to burp him, leaving her to expose.
"I know, let's ask Aya and Gene if they want to go," Mai suggested to me. I nodded and I lift Aya and gave her a serious look.
"Do you want to have dinner with Uncle Lin and the others?" I asked her. Aya blinks as she held my thumb with her small fist.
"Pa!" she giggles, but then shakes her head, and I turn to look at my wife.
"She said no, now the boy," I said.
"Give me a minute," she said as finally, Gene burps. With that Mai cleans him up, and lifts him, Gene becomes fussy, but Mai smiles at our son.
"Want to go and have dinner with Uncle Lin and the others?" Mai asks as Gene turns his small head to look at his sister, then at me.
"Do you want to buddy?" I asked him. Gene shook his head.
"Ma, Pa," he simply said as Mai and I pull our babies into our embrace and kiss the top of their heads.
"Good job," we said in unison and turn to look at each other and burst out laughing at the same thinking.
"The kids have spoken, we will cancel it and see how we can do this. I'm not ready to see them, to be honest." I told her, as Mai nods.
"I feel bad for it, but I can't face them just yet. Just being with Madoka alone last night was a nightmare I wanted to run, but if it wasn't for you freezing her and coming in to be there, I would have gone crazy." She snuggles against me. I raise my arm and wrap it around her slim shoulders.
"Want to go to the office right now?" I asked her.
"Now?" she asks.
"Yes, to have a feel, before Lin gets there?" I question her. Mai nods, looking at me.
"Good idea. Give me a second to put on my shirt." She places Gene next to me, as I held him and I watch as she stands up, to grab her yellow blouse, giving me a good view of her front. I smiled gently as I soaked her in, loving every second of it.
Very beautiful woman Mai is.
I find her so attractive even after all these years, everything about her, Mai can feel my heart going overdrive as she turns to make eye contact with mine, as her face turns to a lovely pink. Noticed the way I was staring at her.
"Are you thinking about perverted things?" she teased as I shook my head, just so hypnotized and allured by her.
"I wouldn't be here just looking at you Mai," I told her, her eyes narrow as I placed Ayame next to her brother, making sure they are safe. Then I stood up and went up to her to grab her bra and shirt.
"Then why are you staring at me like that? And your heart, it's racing so hard," she questions me as I help her put on her bra, then her shirt.
"I was thinking of how much I find you attractive, even after so many years," her eyes widen looking at me.
"Really? You said the same a few months ago before we made love," she nervously stated so I nodded.
I run my fingertips in a seductive matter, down her arm, causing her to shiver once again.
"I meant it, before we became a couple, I was very attracted to you Mai, so it was hard for me to keep myself from not devouring you. I love everything about you, and most of the time you didn't' have to be naked," I chuckled, as I wrap my arm around her waist, as she leans her head on my chest, closing her eyes.
"I remember, and you showed me that day after I revived and you took me to take a bath. Oh Naru, you have no idea how handsome you are, so attractive. I still think this is a dream, that you belong to me."
One of the most horrible days of my life. Losing her was literally losing my life as well.
"Same Mai, I still think this is a dream that you belong to me." I kiss the top of her head as Mai closed her eyes, snuggling into my chest.
"You still drive me wild," Mai whispers, as she looks at me with love in her eyes. I press my forehead against her and rub it loveling.
"And I can't lose you, Mai, not even for a minute, if I do, I will truly die without you."
"Me to Naru, without you, I can't live without after all we went through, and the thought of losing you drives me crazy." she pulls me into a tight hug, as though she's afraid of letting me go and I did the same.
That feeling hit me once again, losing her again.

I manage to get us to my office about a few minutes later, after separating and getting everything cleaned.
"Oi, where are the kids?" she looks around to spot them in their playpen, playing with their toys near my old desk as Mai looks up at me.
"You think of everything." Mai tiptoes and kisses my cheek. I smiled, as I slip my hand with hers intertwining our fingers, and began to look around. My old office is still the same as we left it ten years ago, or two days ago in this time zone.
"Wow, this is…" Mai covers her mouth with her hand, soaking in everything. I nodded in agreement as I felt a sense of nostalgia.
"Soon I have to return here," I said as we walk to my desk to see my laptop and some paper works neatly stacked up next to it. I run my fingers through the desk.
"Oh, now that we are here, we can take those pictures that we spoke of before and use that picture frame that Mai made me," I whispered to myself.
I smiled at the thought of having a picture frame of my family next to my laptop.
Mai pulls me towards the door, opens it, and steps out after making sure Lin wasn't in. Then we headed for the main lobby where her desk is seen.
"Hi, my old friend," Mai lets go of my hand and rushes to the desk, and runs her good fingers through her old things.
"This is so much nostalgia, thank you Naru for taking me back here," Mai said as she came back to me, and wraps her arms around my waist, looking at me with happiness. I pinched her cheek playfully and nod at her.
"Let's continue to tour, you think Aya and Gene will like one?" I suggested. Her eyes widen and nod at me.
"Oi, great idea," she said, as I lowered myself and rub my nose against her. She smiles from ear to ear, rubbing her nose against mine affectionately.
"Why is my Naru, so happy?" she asks, as I pulled back.
"Because I'm with you," I simply told her.
"Oh chucks Naru, you're making this old woman blush," she giggles, causing me to roll my eyes at her.
"Twenty-nine is not old," I told her.
"And a thirty-year-old man isn't either," she said.
"Good to know, but at this time, we are only nineteen and twenty, you know that," I reminded her. She nods, as we took each other hands and continue to walk down the hallway to go to the kitchenette.
"Well, at least I didn't lose my youth," she points out as we entered, then she lets go of my hand and claps her hands to turn to look at me.
"True, then that means I have more energy," I winked at her, causing her to blush harder but give me a cocky look.
"Why Mr. Oliver, work and pleasure doesn't mix," she teases as I shrug at her.
"As my thirty-year-old mind, responsibilities go first Miss. Taniyama, but as a twenty-year-old, hormones are a good excuse," I teased causing her to laugh while shaking her head.
"Geez, I'll take both then, oh, let's role play," she suggested.
"Roleplay?" I question her.
"Yes, role play. You'll be the Naru from two days/ten years ago, before falling from the ship and I'll be the old Mai," she said. She looks excited, as I cross my arms and gave her one of my cold looks. She blinks as I simply said.
"Tea," I simply said, she rose a brow.
"Tea?"
"Unless you want your pay deducted or did you forget about our agreement?" I remember our agreement and her eyes narrow, that she's the only one that can make my tea if she wants to get that day off.
"Why in the world did I agree to that?" she sneers at me and turns around to prepare the tea. I watch as she grabs the water from the small white refrigerator in the right corner of the kitchenette.
I watch as she began to prepare it, remembering my favorite brand, and I tilt my head to the side, as I wiggle my fingers to bring the playpen next to me. Ayame and Gene, who were standing, holding to the railing, watch their mother as well.
I bend down to their level and pointed at her.
"See Mama is preparing me tea, doesn't she looks adorable?" I smiled like an idiot as Gene and Aya turned to look at me. Both giggle, causing me to smile at them. Then I stood up when Mai turns around with tea at hand a few minutes later.
"Here's your tea, your loyal pain," she smiles as she comes up to me. I took it, brushing my fingers against her, only to hear her gasp, as our joined hearts skips a beat. I stare at her, as she shyly removes her hands and places them behind her.
"Any.. thing else?" She stutters while I took a sip of the tea. I raise both of my brows, I forgot how good this tasted, Mai surely knows how to make the best tea. I swallowed it all, making my insides jump with joy.
"Did you straighten the paper works?" I spat, as I finished my tea.
"Of course I did, if not, may pay would be deducted wouldn't it?" Mai said, as she takes the cup away from my hands and began to wash it in the faucet after making a turn.
I leaned my head against the wall, watching her, now that I think about it, we went through so much for ten years almost losing each other so many times, and it's just weird we are back here. We are traumatized by everything, and we can't be separated at all. How much she gave to me, how much she endured for me.
How can we explain this to everyone? We aren't the same as we were ten years ago or for them, two days ago.
Without thinking about it, I went behind Mai and wrap my arm around her small waist causing her to gasp. I leaned my forehead against the back of hers and close my eyes.
"Ne, Naru?" Mai questions me as I rub my forehead against her.
"Give me a second," I told her, she places her wet hand on top of mine, closing her eyes, leaning into me.
"I don't know how to not keep away from you, while the others are near. I can't handle it now Mai, we aren't the same anymore and we are seriously in deep need of healing as well." I told her, Mai turns around and looks at me with pure sadness and understanding.
"I know my love, but we have to find a way, a way to push forward, I don't care what others think of us, while you're with me then nothing will scare me," she said with confidence.
"Same Mai," I brush her hair, as this gripping feeling reaches my heart, and I wrap my arms around her, holding her tight. Mai smiles rubbing my back gently, closing her eyes.
"MA!" we heard, we turned to see Ayame and Gene are looking at us, Mai giggles, looking up at me.
"Two special babies want some hugging too," she teased causing me to nod at her.
"Let's go and tour them around before someone comes in," she said. I nodded at her, and we let go of each other to get our kids.

"So did you two like our tour?" Mai asks Gene and Ayame as we place them back in the playpen, this time in the main lobby.
"Gah," both said, crawling back to their toys. I smiled gently, as Mai slips her hand into mine. She giggles at the reaction of our kids and then looks back at me.
"We should leave before Lin gets here," she said, I nodded, as suddenly a large thunder roared outside. Mai jumps a bit, as a bit of fear cross her eyes.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, I've seen worse. Think of the day Naru propose to me," Mai whispered to herself. I tilt my head as I move my hand and picked her up in my arms.
"Ne, Naru?" she looks down at me.
"I thought you were less scared," I asked, but she shakes her head.
"I don't know, but being back everything seems scarier than the Black Lagoon. I missed that place so much Naru, I'm getting homesick." I watch as tears roll down her eyes and she covers her face.
"I miss our home. I never thought that I would miss it so bad," she said with such sorrow.
"Me too," I lowered her and sadness pierced my heart. I was about to say something else when we heard the door open in the front.
"It's about to rain hard out there," Madoka said rushing in.
I turned to see Lin and Madoka enter, both holding some bags. I blinked as she places the bags down on the ground.
"Naru, what did you do to Mai?" Madoka scolded as she rushes to our side.
As soon she lays her hand on my shoulder, a painful pain pulse in my chest, causing the blood on my face to drain.
What the hell? I clenched my chest. Mai panics in feeling my heart.
"No, Madoka-chan, he didn't do anything, don't touch him," she grabs my arm and pulls me away from Madoka, and from the force of the pull, Mai falls backward, causing me to fall forward.
"Eii!" Mai yelps as I landed on top of her chest. I groaned, lifting my gaze to look up at Mai.
"Did you hurt yourself?" panic arose in me as Mai shook her head as I rouse myself to help her sit up.
"I'm alright my love, and you? What happened? Are you hurt?" she asks so worried, as fresh tears run down her eyes, and began to check over me.
"Mai, I'm fine, don't worry, it's just," I stop talking, as Mai takes a hold of my chin and lifts my head to look at me.
"You sure? You scared me," she cries, pressing her forehead against mine.
"Don't tell me, Naru…" she looks very distressed as Madoka blinks a bit confused by this.
"I think so," I lowered my head as Mai sighed, now crying harder. My eyes narrow at her sudden reaction.
"Noll as well?" Lin asks as he takes Madoka's arm to pull her away from us. Mai and I lift our gaze and nodded at him.
"Apparently, why? It was okay if it was me, but not Naru." Mai clenches her chest, agonizing through this. My heartbreaking even more.
"Mai, it's alright, it's alright," I cup her cheeks, and wipe her tears.
"See, you don't have to go through this alone,"
"No Naru, you're supposed to be stronger than me," Mai gets on her knees, and cups my cheeks, looking at me with such sad eyes.
"Well, for a reason we are soulmates, right?" I cup her cheek, causing her to close her eyes, leaning into my touch, taking a hold of my hand.
"I'm supposed to guard you to Naru, it's my job," she whispers.
"Just be my brave girl already." I simply said, as she came up to me, and wraps her arms around me, burying my face in her chest, then kisses the top of my head, bringing me comfort while our joined hearts finally calmed down.
"Um, Madoka, I think you should leave…" Lin began bringing us back to reality. We turned to see Madoka looking at the display with unbelief eyes.
"No, I'm not leaving until it's explained, what the hell just happen, why did Noll react as though I just shot him or something and Mai pulled him like that? And Mai and Noll acting like a couple? Did I miss something? Were you two secretly dating?"
"No, we aren't secretly dating, right Naru?" Mai asks me. I shook my head and I gently help Mai stand up.
"Dating is out of the question between us, is more complicated than that, and no, we aren't boyfriend and girlfriend before you jump to conclusions," I told her.
"Then lovers? I mean you two are young and... What if Mai gets pregnant, I mean.." My face heats up, but Mai's eyes bugged out.
"No, we aren't lovers. Plus, I'm old-fashioned, I waited for my wedding night before losing my virginity two years ago." Mai mumbles the last part as my eyes narrow and looked down at her.
"Do you want to tell her?" I question her.
"No, but what else can we do," Mai whispers as she lifts her gaze at me. I move my hand and wipe her tears.
"Then we'll let her know, okay," I whispered, she gave me a sad smile and nodded, as she leans forward and gave me a soft chaste kiss on my lips.
"Thank you, my love," she whispers as Madoka's eyes bugged out.
"Oh, this has to be one hell of a story," she said, as we turned to look at her.
"Trust me, it is," Lin said, causing Madoka to look at him.
"You know too?" she questions him.
"Don't bite him off, we needed someone to help us. It's not easy what we are going to explain." Mai said as Lin nods.
"I'm still shocked, it's only been ten minutes... Two days and.." Lin turns to look at our babies than at us.
"How do we begin this?"
"Begin with how did you two end up being an item? Since when did you two begin dating?" Madoka crosses her arms, arching a brow.
"Err, we never began dating, to be honest, please believe us, Naru and I have never been boyfriend or girlfriend or lovers," Mai said as she gets behind me.
"Huh?" Madoka said as I bend down to grab Ayame and Gene, Mai grabs Gene and he lays on her bosom.
"I rather have everyone present so we don't have to repeat ourselves. Lin can you call them to come earlier than the normal before it pours out, I'll pay their salaries if they wish instead of having dinner." I simply order.
"Are you sure Noll?" Lin looks worried, I look down at my wife and she nods, slipping her free good hand on mine and squeezing it.
"Yes Lin, we are sure, we can't hide this anymore, I know you're having trouble in believing it, and the others would have a feast day too, but we aren't ashamed and there's nothing to be ashamed of. I just wish all of you understand and can help Mai a bit to overcome it as well."
"You know I'm confused right now,"
"I know, let them explain it to us, I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Noll, take Mai and the kids I'll handle the rest," he tells me. I nodded, giving him a thank you look.
It is not one thing is the other.

"They fell asleep, that's good for now," Mai said while fixing her blouse as I placed Gene down next to his sister. I lifted my gaze to look out the window that is behind my desk and it was pouring, at least it was not thundering.
"They had a long day," I said as I turned, to have Mai come up to me and wrap her arms around me.
"Yeah, I think I had one too," I shook my head feeling exhausted, as Mai looks at me with an adoring look.
"What?" I slip my hand around her waist.
"That I'm here for you Naru, I know that it's hard for you, I didn't know you were affected as well. I'm sorry."
"We've been through so much, that it mind bottling of how much we survive, but we can't just be normal anymore. I wish we were especially you." I whispered to her as I grab her hand that is internally injured and kissed her wound once again. I lowered myself and leaned against her, as she closes her eyes.
"I don't Naru, I don't wish that because if we were, then we wouldn't be this close or understand what it means to lose each other. Even though everything that we went through, in a low key is a blessing."
"A blessing?" I arched a brow as she nods at me.
"Well, we wouldn't be like this right now, we would be arguing, I would be hiding my feelings for you, and you would still be a jerk to me. Two days later, maybe we would have hooked up but will have had some misunderstandings and it would be hard to understand each other. We wouldn't be like this." She said.
Our joined hearts began to beat hard, so hard, that I thought it would drive me crazy.
I was about to lean in to kiss her, feeling her hand squeezing my arm, half closing her eyes when suddenly the door opens.
"The others have arrived, let's….." we heard, as we turned to see Madoka blinking.
"I need sake after this." she shook her head turned around and closed the door. I blinked, looking down at Mai. Mai couldn't help but burst out laughing as she turns to look back at me.
"Why are you laughing?" Mai presses her fingers near my mouth and tips her toes to kiss me on my lips.
"I don't know, I feel like we were caught in doing something naughty," she admits causing me. I blinked, letting that sink in then a mischievous smirk pass my lips.
"Then let's do something naughty then, my little red," I wiggle my eyes, brows as I spoke in English causing her to blush.
"You remember?" she asks me.
"Somewhat, you found that sexy?" I told her as I tip down and kiss her lips.
"Yes, but in English, you made it extra sexy," she said seriously as she kisses me back.
"We, need… to..." She continues to kiss me, now pushing me closer, deepening the kiss, driving me mad.
"Go," I finished, but continued to kiss, as we went backward, but then painfully ripped away from her, breathing hard, noticing that I pinned her against the door, as she held my shirt with a heavy look of desire in her eyes for me, as I felt myself allure to her even more.
"You ready?"
"Wasn't kissing you a big distraction to delay it?" Mai said a bit breathless as she lowers her head looking a bit scared.
"Geez, here I thought you were kissing me because you love me." I teased, trying to distract her a bit, as I rub her small back.
"I was only saying, of course, I do, you know that I'm madly in love with you, I can't get enough of you, and... Oh. You're being sarcastic," she blushes causing me to chuckle.
"I know Mai, I know. Be my brave girl okay," I whispered, as I wrap my hand around the back of her head and pulled her into a warm hug. She takes a hold of my shirt, pressing her cheek on my chest.
"Okay for you my love." I nodded at her words, closing my eyes.
"Cause I need your strength as well."

We entered the lobby looking at everyone, they chatted among themselves, as Mai took a breath and I used my pinky to grab hers. She smiles looking up at me.
"Oh, there they are, so are we skipping dinner?" Yasuhara spoke first fixing his glasses, as he sat next to John. Bou-san who sat next to Ayako stood up.
"Mai!" he went towards her to hug her, I felt her grow rigid once again so I pulled her back and shook my head stopping him.
"Sorry, from now on, no one is allowed to touch Mai, besides me," I ordered causing Bou-san to blink in confusion.
"Since when do you own Mai, that's a bit too much," Ayako and Bou-san said in unison, but Mai peaked around me and gave them a distressed look.
"I know it sounds bad, but we have a legit reason for it. Can we explain it please?"
"I hope is one good explanation," Ayako spat crossing her arms as Bou-san went back to sit, but not before throwing me daggers glares.
"Sure Mai, we would love to hear it," John said sweetly, always understanding.
"Yes, please explain it." Miss. Hara spoke, as she sat across from Ayako. I turn to look at my wife and slip my hand on hers, interlinking our fingers. Everyone saw our gestures, a bit shocked.
"Wait, wait, did you guys become an item? Boyfriend and girlfriend?" Bou-san asks.
"It's a bit more complicated than that," Lin spoke, rubbing the back of his neck.
I was about to say something when one of our kids began to cry out interrupting us.
"You brought the babies?" Yasuhara asks, Mai looks back.
"It must be Ayame, I'll be back," she rubs my arm and legs go of my hand. I nodded, watching her go to my office, and turn to face the others.
"Well then," Bou-san, when Mai calls out.
"Naru, I need your help," I sigh, shaking my head… I rushed to my office and saw Gene crying hard.
"What happened?" I went up to him and picked him up, as Mai bounced our daughter.
"I don't know, both began to cry," she said as I bounce Gene as well trying to calm him down. I turned to see Lin is coming in, looking concerned.
"What happened?" he asks.
"Don't know Gene and Aya began to cry, Mai already fed them, and they aren't dirty, we changed their diapers half an hour ago," I told him, as I look at my son and his face is so red. Mai presses her hand on Ayame's forehead, but sighs in relief.
"She's not with a fever," Mai stated as she goes to our son and does the same.
"Okay, so no fever, oh come on, don't do this to us my little ones," Mai looks in panic, but then it dawns on me something.
"I think is because we left them alone,"
"But we left them alone before, they never cried,"
"Yes, when they were sleeping, and earlier today is because I brought them with us so it wasn't enough time for them to miss us. We never left them alone while they are awake for a long period. I think Ayame awoke and tried to look for us, but didn't see anyone and panicked and caused Gene to wake up." he said.
"Oh no, I'm sorry, Mama and Papa had to do something, we weren't gone far from you my little ones." she kept bouncing Ayame, as she finally relaxes and leans on her mother. Gene didn't though. Mai goes up to him and rubs his small back.
"There, there, my little one, papa or mama won't leave you,"
"I think you have to bring them out, if not they will cry once again, thank goodness it wasn't bad," Lin suggested.
"Are you alright with that?" I asked Mai. Mai nods, and with a big breath, we both went outside.
"Is everything alright?" Ayako asks a bit concerned while everyone turned to look at us.
"Yes, Aya has been just paranoid, and woke up her brother," Mai explains to them.
"Oh.." Yasuhara mumbled.
"So let's begin, now that the babies calmed down." Madoka intervenes as she gets close to us. Mai and I took a step back.
"Alright then, where do we begin?" Mai asks, looking at me, I was about to say something, when suddenly the door opens up, making us all turn and my eyes widen in pure shock, it was my mother and father rushing towards me.
They both drop their umbrellas on the ground not caring at all, but with relief rushing in their eyes.
"Mother? Father?"
"Mrs. and Mr. Davis?" Lin questions surprised by their sudden appearance.
"We couldn't hold back, our son almost died and you want us to just stay back?" My mother scolds me while she reaches me, and panic arose me when she encircles her arms around me to hug me.
I felt my heart pound unevenly, causing my chest to heave. Pain, I felt that same pain, as the memories from the past passed through me.
No, no, this is my mother, she won't hurt me.
"MA!" I felt distressed, as Mai's eyes widen.
"NO, don't touch him!" Mai suddenly pushed my mother away, making her stumble back that my father had to hold her still. I slump down, holding to my son, breathing hard, as my face paled.
"What the?" Luella looks over my wife in shock as Mai bends down, looking at me very worried.
"Breath, breath," Mai rubs my back.
"Not good," Lin hissed through his teeth as he came up to us.
"Give me the children," Lin said, I lift my gaze watching him bend down,
"Go...go with uncle Lin," I whispered to Gene, as I hand over my son to him. Gene became fussy.
"Pa!" he said in concern as Mai lifts herself and hands over Ayame.
"Thank you, Lin, don't worry guys, uncle Lin will take care of you two." Mai rubs both of their backs and then bends down to continue to rub my back
"My love, are you okay?" Mai whispers as I turned to look at her, and shook my head as I leaned against her, trying to recuperate.
"I'm fine," I simply said as Mai kept rubbing my back and turned to look at my parents.
"What is happening?" My father demands as Mai frowns at them.
"I'm sorry, I truly am. I know this wasn't the best way of meeting, but please avoid any physical contact with Naru," Mai stated as she helps me stand up and walks me towards a seat, and sits me down. I was still shaking a bit, but I can feel myself calming down.
"I'll get you some water," she says to leave, but I grab her arm and pulled her back making her do a double-take. I press her hand against my cheek, leaning into her.
So this is how Mai feels, it's horrible, all I can think of is being hurt, instead of feeling compassion or love from someone else that is not Mai. It's been so long, so freaking long.
"I'm fine Mai, just don't leave my side," I told her as Mai bends down and has tears running down her cheeks once again.
"Your mother, I'm sorry Naru." Mai lowers her head in pure agony, as I shook my head.
"It's fine Mai, it was too sudden," I simply said so she won't worry. Mai began to brush my hair in a tender matter.
Damn it, not even my mother can hold me? Ten years messed us up.
"I'm sorry Naru," she said with a heavy tone. I shook my head, looking up at her.
"I'm better, let's explain to them before they think we need to go to an asylum or something," I told her.
"Alright, but you still look ill. It must be what happened back with…. That man." she lowers her head when my mother gets closer to us.
"It's everything Mai, not just that damn bastard!" I growled as the image of him on top of my wife played in my head. I fist my hand so hard, it turned white.
"No, Naru, don't think of it, it's fine, it's fine. Nothing happened, okay," Mai rubs my arm, trying to calm me down.
"Nothing happened? Mai... It's damn hard to forget and it's harder on you and..." I felt angry tears gather in my eyes as Mai lowers her head.
"I know," she simply said as Mai and I forgot once again we weren't alone.
"Noll," my mother gently calls out, interrupting our moment. I lift my gaze as she looks at me with worried eyes.
"Ma, sorry, Mai didn't mean to push you, it's just that…. We went through something horrible and now we both can't deal with people touching us." I told her.
"From drowning? Who is that man?" Bou-san asks, confused as we turned to look at him.
"It was more than just drowning Bou-san and that bastard, okay, so you know it's only been two days for all of you guys, and ten minutes that we went missing." I began, my mother staring at us, as though her mind is ticking.
Mai and I turned to look at her, then slowly stood up, as I took my wife's hand for support.
"Now, Mother, father, I want to introduce you to my wi. Assistant." I began.
My mother's eyes scan Mai, as my father moves to her side. Mai sends me a nervous look, so I secretly send her a small smile to ease her nerves.
"Again, I'm sorry for pushing you," Mai bows in apologies.
"Isn't this your girlfriend, I heard about?" My mother mentions ignoring her apology. My father stares at her, feeling my cheeks turning warm.
"I know about you. You're the clairvoyance, which helps my son with lots of cases, and that helped find Gene." Mai nods at him.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Mai Da. Taniyama." She bows at my parents.
"Thank you." my mother suddenly told her.
"For?"
"For helping us to move on, to find my son's body. I wanted to thank you properly. Noll has been stubborn to not let me meet you for a year now."
"But aren't you mad about the whole drowning incident ten ye… I mean two days ago, and for me pushing you?" Mai asks confused.
"That? I'm sure you have your reasons, especially how Noll reacted, but why would we? We thought Noll to be responsible and do the right thing. When I heard the news, my mind went blank, but I prayed. I prayed that you two will come out alive and healthy. My prayers have been answered."
My mother explains.
"Oh, I thought you would be mad. Mrs. Davis, Naru always protects me no matter what happened, he's the most wonderful man I ever met," Mai whispers, noticing her hand's fisting. I move closer to her, as she looks up at my mother.
"Trust me when I say this. It's meant to be." We know why she said that, as she turns to face the others.
"Sorry about this, hello everyone." She bows. Everyone stood and bowed back.
"No problem, anyone would worry about their child first." Ayako kindly smiled at my mother. Now say those words, I understand it completely. I would place my life first, then seeing my children come to harm.
"We should eat first and rest." My father spoke.
"Martin is right; we had an eventful day today. We'll pay for dinner," My mother invites as the others look at each other not sure about this.
"Well, Naru and Mai wanted to tell us something, that's why we all are here today, canceling our dinner plans, you two coming was a surprise." Madoka intervenes, My mother goes up to her and takes a hold of her arm.
"Really?"
"Yes, I'm dying to hear this," Madoka gave me a strange look, but then Gene and Ayame made a noise, capturing our attention, we turned to see Lin heading our way holding them.
"They want you two," Lin said, as Mai reached out her arms for them.
"Oh, come here sweety," Mai said as she held Gene in her arms and kiss his cheek as I took Ayame.
"See everything is alright now," I said, kissing her cheek. Ayame smiles, looking at me.
"Pa!" she said, causing me to smile gently at her.
"Sorry," I kiss the top of her head,
"Pa!" she said again bouncing with happiness, causing my heart to swell and I look up at Gene.
"He wants some kisses as well," Mai said, I nodded and leaned down to kiss the back of Gene's small head.
"Sorry," I simply said as I lift my gaze to look at my wife.
"Silly man is not your fault." Mai smiles back at me, and I couldn't resist her, as I move forward and press my lips to hers, giving her a chaste kiss.
Everyone's eyes bugged as Mai's face flared up, but smiles from ear to ear, returning the kiss.
"At least you're better." she rubs her cheek against mine. I nodded, feeling so much better after having her next to me and our kids.
"What the hell?" I heard someone say as I heard my mother gasp out.
"Oh no, I forgot about the others again," Mai gasped out burying her face in my chest.
"Luella?" my father goes up to her. I turned to look at her as Mai peaked around.
"Noll, Mai. No, please don't tell me…" her voice turned thick as almost on verge of tears. Mai's eyes widen.
"So you do know?" Mai gasped out.
"No, no, this can't be." My mother continued, leaning into her husband.
"Know what? Come on, why is Naru kissing Mai? Why can't they be touched… Come on, someone please speak up." Yasuhara looks, inpatient
"Mrs. Davis?" Lin asks concerned moving to her side. My father places his hand on her shoulder.
So she does know about the Black Lagoon, why did she never warn me? Prepared me for this? I felt anger boiling in my body.
"Honey, what's wrong?" He asks. Her eyes landed on us.
"Aren't you going to ask mother?" I smirked, might as well get out of the way. She swallows thickly, as everyone surrounds her.
"What's happening?" Bou-san asks confused. Everyone just shrugged, looking back at us as though we were some sort of drama playing on the television.
"No. It happened, didn't it? It's been... Ten years.." her voice is hollow. For a reason, I felt madder and that frightening look she was giving us. I didn't like it. Mai held my hand tighter, as she gave my mother a stern sharper look.
"Why didn't you warn Naru?"
"Yes, mother, ten long damn agonizing years. Explain to us... Explain to us, why the hell you kept Black Lagoon from me? " I shout as my mother's tears rolled down.
"Then get away from her, please, she'll be the death of you," she said the next thing I knew she goes to Mai and grabs her arm to pull her out of my embrace.
I can feel Mai's heartbeat in panic as she began to struggle.
"Don't, don't touch me! Naru!" She looks at me with tears as I move rapidly, her breathing becoming uneven, as her panic attack becomes more and more evident. My mother pushed her back, causing Mai to fall back. Lin moves rapidly to grab Gene out of my arms and then Ayame which I was thankful for.
"Mother!" I called out to her, but my father grabs my arm, pulling me back, my heart began to hurt, as I clenched my chest.
"Let me GO!" I screamed as my father shakes his head.
"Let it be, she might have a good reason."
"No, you don't... don't understand." I felt angry tears gathering in my eyes as the next words of my mother pierced my heart.
"You can never be with my son! I forbid it!" She shouts at Mai. I was stunned by what just happened.
"No, please don't... I can't... I can't live without Naru." Mai pleads with my mother, as her breathing heightens up.
"Ma! Let her go, let me go Pa, she can't be touched, we can't be separated, I..." I couldn't even think as I watch Mai's body beginning to fall as my mother won't stop touching her. Tears running down her eyes, and a panic attack was in full mode.
"My love!" she rolls her eyes backward, and her body drops in shock as I pushed my body forward, finally as my father lets go of me, and I manage to grab Mai's body.
"Mai!" I held her close to me.
"Noll, what just happened? Isn't it a bit over the top? If this is just a sick joke, I won't put up with it. I forbid you to see that girl." I picked up Mai in my arms as a bridal and looked deadly serious at my mother as she got scared.
I could feel my pk spike up, as I held Mai closer to me.
"Naru?" I heard someone in the background call out as I look around. Everyone looks scared and confused.
"If death couldn't tear us apart for the last ten years, sure as hell I won't let a living person do so as well. Hear me, well, everyone, especially you, mother. Mai is mine as much as I am hers. Besides being each other guardians, we are husband and wife and we are each other world that had to survive for the last ten years in that hell hole, the Black Lagoon! And no one will part us."
Mai Pov
"Where am I?" I asked, not understanding this at all, wasn't I back home with Naru? Wait, his mother, his mother wanted us to separate. I clenched my chest, as this aching feeling pierced through me.
"With me, of course," I heard next to me. I turned and my whole heart dropped to my stomach, looking around I was in a small room with white padded walls, looking like an asylum room or something like that. I look down at myself and I am strapped down.
"Why are you doing this to me?" I question her, suddenly I'm pinned against the wall as the woman comes rapidly to me.
"I won't allow it, I won't allow it! See I told you, she won't want you!" She screams horribly and my eyes narrow in pure horror as blood pours out of her eyes and mouth.
I lowered my eyes to see a knife sticking out of her chest, she grasped at the dark handles, and pulls it out, and turns the tip towards me.
"No!" I gasped out and before I could say anything else, she slams the knife right into my chest as I gasp in pure pain.
Naru? My Naru, is this how we end things? I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.
"Now, you can never have him!"
