Within seconds, the ladies in the room were crying out in fear and panic.
Rebekah tried to see what exactly was going on when Cersei pushed Lancel away and rushed away with Tommen.
Sansa was admirably calm, taking the women's hands and suggesting a chant, reassuring them.
"She's doing well" Rebekah stated, but Shae tugged at Sansa's dress and guided her away from the others.
"Get away from here. Run into your chamber, lock the doors and hide" Shae commanded, taking Sansa's hand, "No one will rape you tonight, my lady, I'll make sure of it"
Rebekah's heart was pounding hard in her chest.. Her mind was making up terrible scenarios, and Cersei's description of lustful soldiers and Ser Illyn Payne's role as their executioner in case everything was lost had not turned things to the better.
Rebekah's encounters with men had not been pleasant in the past, and truth was, the thought of being backed into the same situation she had experienced at the docks almost made her cry.
But just like Sansa and Shae, she had to pull herself together. This time, she had her bow ready.
"But what happends to you?" Sansa asked worriedly. "No one rapes me, my lady" Shae showed a dagger attached to her leg.
"Lady Rebekah, you go with her" Shae's tone did not allow any protest, but Rebekah had not planned to go hide. She could actually protect the others now that she wasn't defenseless.
"Shae, I can help..."
"There's no time for discussion. Bronn ordered me to make sure you hide when the city falls."
"Bronn?!" Rebekah exclaimed, but Shae pushed her and Sansa out of the door.
"Go now!"
OoOoO
"Why is Shae trusting you? You're serving the Lannisters" Sansa accused, while the two of them hurried trough dark corridors.
"Not all Lannisters are the same, my lady" Rebekah said absently, her senses hightened from the fear.
She inspected the wall to her left, hoping to recognize the way to Sansa's chambers.
"We're close" Rebekah whispered, taking Sansa's hand to pull her behind her.
"I don't need Lannister help." Sansa lamented, her voice echoing slightly from the walls.
Rebekah sighed and pressed Sansa into an alcove.
"Lady Sansa, I am not your ennemy. I did not chose the allegiance of my house, but I make the best of my circumstances. Tyrion Lannister is a good man, and at this precise moment he is fighting Stannis. Remeber we all have the same ennemy tonight."
Sansa's soft blue eyes began to fill with tears.
"Stannis won't hurt me" she whispered.
"Didn't you listen to Cersei earlier? She was tormenting you, but she is right – when the city falls, every women has to fear for her life and honor. No matter her standing, no matter her allegiance."
Suddenly, a loud crack alarmed her, followed by heavy steps and the clank of an armour.
"Run!" Rebekah gasped, but in the flickering light of the torch she could make out the huge shape of the Hound. It was already too late fo flee, so Rebekah pushed Sansa behind her and raised her bow, ready to shot.
The rasping laugh make Sansa squirm.
"The cat protecting a little bird."
"Neither of them likes dogs" Rebekah answered. His burned face was enlightened by the flames of the torch, making him look like a monster.
"Why aren't you fighting a the city gates?" she asked him, mostly to disctract him from Sansa. Although Sandor Glegane spoke to Rebekah, he was unmistakenly glaring at the Stark girl.
"The Blackwater is on fire. Your little sellsword cunt and the imp did it. I was right when I said you let both of them fuck you, wasn't I? You just got rid of a monster by marrying another. As soon as you have born an heir and the rat grows tired of you, he'll dispose of you the same way my brother would have."
Before Rebekah could reply, Sansa let out a small whimp. Oddly, the Hound's gaze softened. Maybe it was just an illusion from the light, Rebekah thought.
Sansa pushed herself out of the alcove, although Rebekah sent her a warning look.
"He won't hurt me" Sansa whispered, her eyes still sparkling from tears.
"No, I won't little bird" Sandor growled, and Rebekah instantly made place for Sansa to get closer to the Hound. Somehow, Sansa and Clegane seemed more intimate than Rebekah had ever thought possible.
"Where are you going?" Sansa asked carefully, approaching the big man.
"To some place that isn't burning. North. You could come with me. I would bring you to Winterfell, keep you safe" he rasped with unusual softness in his voice.
"You have to let me silence the cat first, but then no one would stop us" the Hound suggested, and Rebekah umconfortably realized he was talking about her.
"Sansa. Get away from him." Rebekah advised. Sandor Clegane was still dangerous.
He was violent, drunk and very unstable in her eyes, but Sansa surprised her with her next words.
"No. I don't have to. I can see the good in you. Just as Rebekah will see the good in her husband."
"Her husband is a killer too. Your father was a killer. Your brother was a killer. Your sons will be killers one day. You better get used to see them as they are. The world is build by killers" he snarled, but Sansa didn't flinch this time.
"You won't hurt me" Sansa repeated, her gaze steady and confident.
"Sansa? If you want to go with him... I'll lead them away from you" Rebekah said quitly, letting herself guide by her instincts. Sansa had suffered in King's Landing in so many ways, she deserved to get away. The Hound wasn't the perfect choice, but he would be able to protect her.
"I know we had a rough start, but I truly want to help her. You know I am not a liar" Rebekah emphazised each words, hoping Sandor would leave without killing her first.
Sandor didn't answer to her.
"Are you coming or not?" he gestured towards Sansa, but she slowly shook her head. „I am safer here."
Rebekah watched as the Hound turned his back on them, not after throwing a look full of want and regret towards Sansa Stark. Rebekah wondered how she had managed to witness such a closeness between a brutal killer and a delicate Lady.
Thanks to Theresa5155, baronnis, little bucky and guest for reviewing :)
Sadly, you'll only know about the mystery red cloaked soldier in the next chapter :D The scenes between Sansa and Sandor are one of my favorites of season 2, I just had to include them as well.
xoxo & Liebe Grüße
