Chapter 3: First Day) Good morning,Josie. Did you have a good night's sleep? Yes, I did,thank-you. So where would you like to ride? Well, I guess you better start at the beginning. This is the biggest ranch I ever saw in my life. Allright,Josie. So what do you like to do? Oh, reading, riding horses, sewing. I grew up on my father's ranch outside Waco. The Judge told me your Frank Dawson's niece. Did you know my uncle? Yes, I did. I know about Betsy being adopted. Did the Judge tell you? Yes. Whatever happened to Betsy? She got married and moved to Pennsylvania. What was she like? She was kind, loving. She cared about her friends and family very much. She loved all of us like brothers. Who's us? Me, Steve, Trampas, and Randy. Steve was a close friend of mine that worked on the ranch. He got married and moved back to Missouri. Trampas still lives here. Randy was a lot younger than all of us when he first came and he was the closest thing to a younger brother we ever had. He was from the hill country down south. Does he still live around here? He lives on a little spread not too far from here. Here he comes right now. Mornin, Virginian. Good morning,Randy. What brings you out this way? Oh, just huntin a few strays. Randy, I'd like you to meet Josie Dawson. She's Judge Garth's ward. Pleased to meet you, miss. And I'm glad to meet you,Randy. You can just call me Josie. So the Judge is back in town? He certainly is. He heard Shiloh was up for sale and he bought the place. How`d he come to meet Josie? Her uncle was an old friend of his and she didn't have any one else to look after her. And he was lonely with Jennifer married. I hope she 'll be happy here. So do I,Randy. Well, I better be gettin after them strays. You all take care. You come and visit anytime. We will,Randy. And you do the same. We'd better be getting back,Josie. Thank-you for the ride,Virginian. I had a wonderful time. Your welcome,Josie. It's been a pleasure having a girl around again. Do you think that one day you could think of all of us as family? I believe I could,Virginian. See you later,Josie said as she went up the path.
