Chapter 4: A Conversation) So, how do you like Shiloh? I love it. It's everything you said it was. While I was riding I came to a decision. About what? I believe I'm ready to call you Uncle Henry. I know Daddy wouldn't mind if he were here. And you almost really are my uncle because of Betsy. I'm happy to hear that,Josie. It will be just like you were my niece. There's a dance in town tomorrow night. Would you like to go? Yes, I would. It will give you the chance to meet some of our neighbors. That sounds wonderful, Uncle Henry. Are any of them friends of yours? Some of them, yes. But I'm sure there's bound to be people that have moved here since I left. We met Randy while we were out. Did he say anything? He said he'd drop by to visit soon. That's good to hear. The Virginian told me that he worked and lived here at one time. Yes,he did. How did you and Betsy come to meet him? I wasn't here at the time he came, but Betsy was. She and the Virginian saved his life. The Virginian told me was an orphan. Yes, both his parents were killed in a mountain feud a year and half before he arrived here. That must have been hard on him. Yes, it was. But he fit right in with us and it wasn't long before we came to see him as family. When his brother came back for him he chose to stay with us. Was there a another reason he didn't go with his brother? His brother was an outlaw. He almost killed both Randy and the Virginian, but Steve came along and stopped him. You haven't told me much about yourself,Josie. Well, my mother's name was Josephine and she died when I was twelve. After that it was just me and Daddy. I like riding horses. I also love to read. Mama saw to it I got an education. And Daddy picked up where she left off. And I like to sew and cook. There's definitely plenty of that around here for you. Later on you can pick yourself out a horse. Thank-you, Uncle Henry. I'd better go change before lunch. I'll see you later, Josie.
