Chapter 10: A Letter) I got a letter from Betsy, Josie. What does she say, Uncle Henry? She and her husband are moving back here soon. David is going to take over the church in town. Where will they live? In the parsonage, of course. What is Betsy like? She's kind, loving. She's always been a good daughter to me. You two will love each other. From the time she was fifteen she made this ranch a home. The Virginian told me how she cared about all of them. Especially Randy. When the Virginian and I went riding we met Randy on the trail. What did you think of him,Josie? I liked him right off. He seemed kind. He always was. Did the Virginian tell you how we came to meet Randy? No, not yet. I was away at the time, but Betsy met him as he was passing through. A man he'd made the acquaintance of was killed for his gold and Randy was mistakenly thought to have done it. And Betsy helped him to prove his innocence. And then he came to live on the ranch. He was an orphan so we all came to think of him as family. We still do. What happened to his parents? They were killed because of a backwoods feud, Josie. How awful. It certainly was for him. Someone's knocking on the door. Would you go see who it is? Of course. Hello, Virginian. Do come in. Thank- you, kind lady. Is the Judge here? As a matter of fact he is. Something wrong, Virginian? No, I just came to tell you we got the cattle gathered. Thank- you, Virginian. I got a letter from Betsy today and she says she and David are moving back here. That's wonderful news,Judge. When are they coming? They should be here by the fifteenth. How's Jamie, Josie? He's better, Virginian. The doctor's coming out tonight to take a look at him. What do you think of him? I like him a lot. He's nice. I know we're going to be good friends. Tell him I said hello. I sure will, Virginian. I'd better go see how the boys are coming along. See you later, Judge. I'd better go check on Jamie, Uncle Henry. Alright, dear. I've got to town after that. Would you like to with me? I don't see why not. I'll check on Jamie and then I'll get ready to go. Is someone here in case he needs something? Of course. You rest well, Jamie Cole; Josie said to herself. How is he,Josie? He's asleep, Uncle Henry. That's good. I'll have one of the boys hitch up the buck board. And in no time at all they were on the road to town.
