Rolling over in bed, it took a moment for him to realize that she was not there, that she would never be there with him again. But even as he thought that, he knew that her presence was there with him at that moment, her figure lying beside him, sending him the special smile that was reserved only for him.

Deep in the stillness

You're still an inspiration

It wasn't fair that she was taken from him so soon. It was all he could do not to fall into the deepest of depressions, to never truly live again. But she was always there, whispering in his ear, telling him in that soft, reproachful way of hers that he should never stop living. That he should live twice as much as before, if only to live for her.

And whenever he closed his eyes he saw her. He saw her on the day that she agreed to marry him, her eyes shining brighter than he had ever seen them as she leaped into his arms as an answer to his question. He saw her on their wedding day, the shy smile she gave him as she held his hand and promised to love him until the day she died. And most of all he saw the day of the final battle, they day when cries of death surrounded them in that graveyard, but all he saw and heard was her. His beautiful wife, fading slowly in his arms, promising him that she would always love him, but making no such request of him. Telling him that he should continue to live without her, that he should be happy, like she'd want him to be. Then he saw her smiling down upon him from her place way above, and he knew that she would always be watching him.

He wished more than anything in the world that he could join her. That he could just end the pain and spend forever with her in his arms, smiling and laughing like she had before. Even if he could just talk to her one last time, just to know for sure that she was alright. Just to know that she really wasn't so far away. Just to know that he would be alright.

And when he slept, he saw nothing of battles and death and nightmares. That was only when he was awake. So he longed to sleep, when he could see her sleeping peacefully beside him, and he would stroke her hair and whisper in her ear, but mostly just be with her, as he was supposed to be. He believed that she really was lying beside him eternally, even if he couldn't see her.

Everyday

She lived on through him. He never felt that he got to spend enough time with her, but in the time he had with her she had taught him more about life and about love than he could have acquired in an entire lifetime without her. And for that he was thankful.

There would be no one else, only her, forever. She was his one true love, and she would remain his one true love, until they were reunited. She wasn't gone, and he wasn't alone. She was waiting for him to return to her side.
