It's just another day at Firebase Phoenix, Afghanistan. Master Sergeant Foley (Sergeant Foley in the Original) and Sergeant First Class Joseph Allen (Private First Class Joseph Allen in the Original) of the 1st Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment give weapons training to the Afghan Army trainees. Once demonstration is over, MSG. Foley send SFC. Allen to The Pit for Lieutenant General Shepherd to see his skills.
On the way, a fellow army ranger waves him hello. The man is just like him, in full multicam Crye Precision Combat Shirt and Combat Pants, 5.11 TactTec Plate Carrier, Molle Battle Belt, and an Ops-Core FAST Carbon High Cut Helmet. But armed with a Daniel Defense M4A1 with an EOTech EXPS34 Holographic Sight and an EOTech PEQ-15 IR (Infrared) Aiming Laser on its top rail, a Hi-Point 995 Tactical LED Flashlight on the right rail, and an M203 Grenade Launcher attached on the bottom rail (obviously). What sets him apart is that he wears a sandstone colored scarf on his face as a mask and Oakley sunglasses. He basically looks like the soldier in Modern Warfare 2's cover art, just with different colors and gear.
Allen replied with: "Hey, Ramirez." It was Staff Sergeant James Ramirez (Private James Ramirez in the Original), who I think should be played by Scott Eastwood, the fourth member of Foley's Hunter Team 2. Allen, who is played by his original voice actor, asked him if he just used The Pit. And SSG. Ramirez said yes and that he just beaten his record from 19.00 seconds to 14.45 seconds. Allen jokingly suggested him to give the others a chance. And the two laughed at each other.
They then eavesdrop on a conversation between two soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division about two foreign looking and sounding operators beating Delta Force operators in a CQB (Close Quarters Battle) course. The soldiers described one of the foreigners having a mohawk and the other having a skull patterned balaclava.
Ramirez and Allen knew exactly what they were talking about. And can tell that they were fascinated and impressed by the foreign operators. Allen then asked: "You wanna tell them what really went down?" And Ramirez replied: "Nah, wouldn't want to spoil their fascinations." He then switched the subject by wishing Allen luck on The Pit: "Knock 'em dead, bro." Allen thanks him and heads to The Pit.
When Allen finished his turn on the course, he and Sergeant First Class Dunn (Corporal Dunn in the Original) head up the stairs and was greeted by a battered BCT 1 (Brigade Combat Team 1). Ramirez lets Allen and SFC. Dunn know that BCT 1 is trapped on the riverside in The Red Zone. Foley orders everyone to arm up and get to their vehicles and Ramirez takes Allen and Dunn to Hunter Team 2's humvee.
Allen arms himself with his DDM4A1 with almost the same attachments as Ramirez' rifle but with a Trijicon ACOG (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight) instead of an EOTech EXPS34 Holographic Sight. Dunn arms himself with his FN SCAR-H with an SPI Infrared X-14 Thermal Rifle Scope. And Foley arms up with his FN SCAR-H with an M203 Grenade Launcher.
