Son of War

Chapter 12

In a flash of light, Kratos found himself and Yasaka getting teleported to what he could assume to be the backyard of her home…

…which, just as the seasoned Spartan warrior and the nine tailed fox woman had expected, was filled with the people who dressed in the same robes and clothing as the ones they had fought a moment earlier.

"IT'S THE KYUUBI! STOP HER!" One of them shouted before the rest charged at Kratos and Yasaka, who were both ready for them. With the battle axe in his hand, Kratos charged forward, brutally cleaving any enemy that dared to try and fight him at close range. For those who were wise enough to keep their distance from the ashen skinned Spartan, they were instantly dealt with by Yasaka, who sent out blasts and waves of golden fox fire at them, incinerating them on the spot.

"Get out of my way!" The fox woman snarled, as she enlarged her tails and swiped it across the backyard of her mansion, with Kratos jumping into the air to avoid it, at the same time bringing his axe down an enemy that was surprisingly twice his size, cutting through the flesh from his left shoulder down to his waist life butter. As the enemy fell down, dead, Kratos then yanked the axe out, and threw it at the head of another enemy, killing them with the axe to their face.

Barehanded, the ashen skinned warrior proved himself to be even more deadly, as he grabbed a robed figure by their head, and then snapped their neck with a twist of his arm before tossing the lifeless body at a group of armed enemies, knocking them back before raising his right arm to block an incoming fireball with the back of his hand. Knocking off another with a battle cry, Kratos then shot his hand out to grab a hokora, a miniature Japanese shrine, and tossed it at the enemy that were trying to cast a stronger spell to take him down, sending them flying with the shrine shattering into pieces.

"Can you… I don't know, not do that?" Yasaka asked from the side, as she grabbed an enemy by their head and tore out their throne with the claws of her other hands. "That shrine was dedicated to Inari-sama."

"I have no concern for the gods you worship, woman."

"I built that one myself, when I was ten."

"Then you are fully capable of building another one when this battle is over."

Yasaka could only roll her eyes in response, but did not try to say anything more. She knew now was not the time or the place for her to bicker or argue, especially with someone who was helping her find and save her daughter. Moreover, they were in a fight in which they were greatly outnumbered by the enemies, so there was no telling how much of her house would be destroyed now that the enemies had also begun to use stronger magic to fight the two of them. Not that she cared, however, as her mind was set on one thing only, and it was the safety of her beloved Kunou.

"Come on, Kunou's room is this way." Yasaka said hurriedly as she ran into the house, dodging a spell that was fired at her from the side while praying to all the Shinto deities that her daughter was hiding there. "Kunou! Where are you!" As she ran with Kratos covering her flank and behind, Yasaka shouted as loud as her throat allowed her to, hoping that if her daughter were hiding somewhere else in the house, then she would hear her voice and knew that she was coming.

Her heart fell, however, and her voice weakened, when she saw the bodies of her servants and guards lying on the ground, all seemingly having their backs turned to the direction of Kunou's room when they were still standing. It was clear to both Yasaka and Kratos that they had fought to their last breath to protect her daughter, trying to prevent the enemies from reaching their princess, but they were no match for whatever or whoever that had come for her.

It pained Yasaka to see such a sight.

"Kunou!" Yasaka shouted as she tore open the door of her daughter's room, but all that she found inside were more dead bodies of her servants, some of whom were Kunou's caretakers in her absence.

Among them was the one who had taken Kunou's home on her order, Izumi, who laid there with a naginata spear in one hand and seemed to be the only one still breathing, albeit very weakly.

But her daughter, however, was nowhere to be seen

"Izumi!" As Kratos went to check for any survivors and make sure that they were clear, taking notice of the state of each and every body in the room, Yasaka ran over to her servant and picked her up, letting the young woman rest her head on her arm as she tried to heal her with a healing spell. The woman groaned weakly before opening her eyes, tears of relief streaming down her cheeks when she saw Yasaka. "Hang on, I will heal you."

"Ya… Yasaka-sama…" Izuma spoke weakly, as she gazed up at the blonde haired fox woman "They… came for… Kunou-sama. I… we… tried to stop them… but… there were… too many. They took her… to Ginkaku…"

"Don't speak. You are going to be alright. I won't let you die." Yasaka shook her head and said desperately, putting more power into her healing spell. Deep down, however, she knew that it was already too late for Izumi just by looking at the wound on her chest, but she refused to accept it.

"Yasaka-sama…" Izumi called as she grabbed the woman's wrist, gripping it firmly as she warned her "They… they have… the Longinus. One of them… was the wielder of the Longinus Spear… please, be careful…"

"Please, bring… our princess back for us." With a soft and grateful smile, the woman spoke her final words "It's been… an honor… serving you… and Kunou-sama, Yasaka-sama."

Taking her last breath, the woman's hand fell limp to her side. Tears fell from Yasaka's eyes as she held the woman tightly in her arms, sobbing quietly as she whispered a thank you to her, for all the moments that she had shared with her and Kunou, and for everything that she had done.

"Four enemies here appeared to die at her spear. Your servant fought bravely till the end." Yasaka heard her ashen skinned companion speak as he stood behind her and reached down to put his hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner "She died a warrior."

"I know." Yasaka replied to him in a grateful tone, as she gently laid Izumi's body down the floor of Kunou's room before standing up, turning around to look at Kratos. Wiping the tears from her eyes, Yasaka then spoke to Kratos, her tone much firmer than before "Come. We know where they have taken my daughter."

The ashen skinned warrior simply replied to her with a firm nod of his head, and followed Yasaka out of the house as she went on ahead of him.

As they made their way to Ginkaku temple, where Kunou had been taken to, Yasaka began to fill Kratos in with the details. She told him that she was the leader of the Kyoto Youkai, and explained to him how the earthquake that had hit Kyoto a few days ago wasn't an earthquake at all, but a story to cover up the truth from the human living in the city.

In truth, it was really an attack from a minor, but powerful Youkai Faction who wished to unleash an ancient youkai monster that they worshiped as their god, who had been sealed several hundred years ago by the goddess Inari. They hoped to use its ancient power to kill her so they might take over her place.

Apparently, the location where this youkai god was sealed was a mystery to even Yasaka, who had thought that Fushimi Inari shrine was the place because it had been met with a full on assault from an opposing Youkai Faction in the attack a few days ago. It was the reason why she had chosen to remain behind at the shrine that night, not just to oversee its restoration, but to protect it herself lest they dared to try again.

Although they really did, it was only to confirm that Fushimi Inari shrine wasn't the place, and to distract Yasaka long enough for them to capture Kunou and bring her to Ginkaku-ji temple, the true location of the seal.

"In order to break the seal, they will need an immense amount of spiritual power, and the closest and most accessible source is flowing through the leylines of this city."

Yasaka explained, as the two of them hurriedly made their way to Ginkaku-ji temple through the streets of Kyoto. Apparently, teleportation magic had been completely blocked throughout the entire city, forcing them to travel to their destination by foot, though they both believed it would be much better for them to do this, as they would be able to go in from the outside. It would also give them time to prepare for whatever that was waiting for them inside, and have a much easier time rescuing Kunou, whose life was on the line.

"But because I am its center, they can't just take it away, not when I am still alive. But because they can't just hope that they might be able to kill me by blinding attacking me just like what they did a few days ago, not to mention that my death will also destabilize the leylines before they can hope to archive anything, they need an alternative method to take this power, and they do now."

"Your daughter." Kratos said, the words that came out of his mouth were more of a statement than a question.

"Yes. Kunou is the only other nine tailed fox youkai beside me, but more importantly, she's my daughter, so our spiritual signatures are nearly identical." Yasaka nodded her head "With the right magic, they can redirect the leylines' spiritual flow from me to Kunou and use her to break the seal, at the same time weakening me enough so I won't stand a chance against this youkai god."

"But what I am worried most about is Kunou. My daughter is still too young to handle that much power… if it keeps going through her for too long, her body will… and she…"

"Don't beat yourself up, woman. Now is not the time for that." Kratos interrupted Yasaka, stopping her before she could continue. Moreover, he did not need any more information to know what's going to happen, and what needs to be done. "Stay focused, and we will save your daughter. If you can't do that much, I'll save the little girl myself."

"I…" Yasaka looked at the ashen skinned warrior in surprise, not expecting a man like him to willingly go that far for her daughter. "I understand." Yasaka said finally, taking a deep breath to steel her nerves before nodding her head to him, making the man do the same thing in response.

She barely knew this man, having just met him today… but at the same time, she couldn't help but bring herself to trust him, not just because she did not have a choice in the matter. There was a reason why she did not have any of her guards with her, knowing that any of them could be a spy from that opposing Youkai Faction who would stab her in the back the moment they saw an opportunity.

"We're here." Yasaka informed when the temple finally came into view, before reaching out and grabbing Kratos by the collar of his shirt to pull him back, giving him a signal to stay quiet with a finger to her lips. Soon, a pair of Youkai with snake-like faces appearing to be on patrol walked from a dark alley next to them, looking quite bored as they walked past Yasaka and Kratos before disappearing behind a corner.

"Not a sneaky type, I can tell." Yasaka spoke, making Kratos grumble in slight annoyance before following the nine tailed fox woman as she made her way to that corner to look at Ginkaku-ji Temple. As they both had expected, while there's still quite a distance away from the temple, the entire area was flooded with enemies, gathering mostly around the trees and fish ponds surrounding the temple. Some of them appeared to be on patrols, while the rest were just hanging out in a casual manner, though all appeared to be on high alert.

But at the same time, they could see that many of them weren't youkai, but normal humans… or at least, as human as they could be. Like the youkai around them, they were wielding a variety of weapons, and seemed to dress in a type of school uniform.

The most noticeable ones of them all, meanwhile, were the two talking to a group of Youkai standing at the front gate of the temple. The first one was a young man with black hair and spectacles, who dressed himself in a school uniform and a mage-style robe over his uniform with a feathered cape. The second, was a two-meters tall man with a muscular body even larger than that of Kratos with shoulder-length gray hair. Like the spectacled young man, he wore what appeared to be an attire of a Japanese school uniform, covered by what Kratos could clearly tell was Greek-inspired armors, as he stood there with his arms crossing on his chest, his expression spoke of arrogance and disdain.

The last person, who appeared to be their leader with a powerful aura about him, was a handsome young man with dark hair and blue eyes that also dressed in the same uniform, which he combined with what seemed to be a battle garb of an ancient Chinese warrior. Held in his right hand was a spear, which caused a slight feeling of unease to Yasaka as she looked at it.

"Do you know them?" Kratos asked, acknowledging the fact that the fox woman was also looking at the same people as he was.

"I don't… but I recognize that weapon the one in the middle is carrying. It's the Longinus Spear, or True Longinus, the first and most powerful sacred gear in the world." Yasaka explained to him, making Kratos nod his head in understanding, having been told about sacred gears and what they did by Atreus. "Be very mindful if you have to fight that person. That spear can kill even gods if they get pierced by it."

"We shall see." Kratos said, causing Yasaka to turn her head to look at him strangely "Do you know where your daughter can be?"

"She's inside that temple. I can feel her."

Yasaka answered, before a strange feeling washed over her, making the blonde-haired fox woman lose all her strength for only a brief second, but still enough to make her fall forward. She would have landed on her face, if Kratos did not catch her with one hand grabbing her elbow, stopping her before she could possibly expose them.

"I… I am alright." Yasaka told her ashen skinned companion hurriedly as she stood up, allowing him to take his hand back. "But I think they did it. We can't wait for my force to arrive. We need to save Kunou now."

"Going in blind will only give us a disadvantage, since we don't know the full number and the strength of the enemies' force." Kratos told her, and Yasaka nodded her head in agreement "We need to force them to reveal them to us. A distraction, something big."

"How big are we talking?" Yasaka questioned, and it was Kratos' turn to turn his head to look at her strangely before Yasaka left their cover to run ahead of him, unleashing her fox fire and incinerate a large group of enemies, blasting them away and causing an explosion that shook the entire area.

"The Kyuubi is here!"

"Deal with her! Don't let her stop the ritual!"

An all-out battle soon broke out between the Yasaka and an entire youkai faction, who was backed by an unknown group of humans. They charged at her, weapons and magic at the ready, but the moment they were within reach, the nine tailed fox woman dealt with the skills of a warrior and devastating strength, using her tails both offensive and defensive, before sending out waves of fox fire at the enemies far away, not even giving them the chance to murmur the names of their spells.

Her advancement eventually came to a brief halt, however, when three gigantic, twelve meter tall creatures with lizard like bodies covered in dark green scales emerged from the darkness that spread across the ground, shaking the earth with their footsteps and roars before charging at Yasaka, who smiled because she knew that Kratos' hand had worked.

Her entire body was engulfed in a golden light, and in a flash, Kratos found himself looking up at a giant fox creature, standing at least ten meters tall, with golden fur bristling with every movement, and four powerful legs rippling with slender, graceful muscles. Nine long tails waved behind her like a blazing fire, as Yasaka charged at the lizards like monsters and slammed into them in her Youkai form, tearing the torso of one clean off before wrapping her tails around another to pull it down.

Robed mages then appeared in the air around her, standing on top of their magic circle and started raining spells down her body, but not for long as Yasaka whipped her tails at them, smashing them into the ground but several others were able to quickly move out of the way before continuing their assaults. More monsters began to appear, but the nine tailed fox stood her ground and met them head on in a violent clash.

"Hmpm…" Kratos grumbled quietly at the sight before him before he looked away from Yasaka, trusting her to not just crush the temple along with her daughter while fighting those giant monsters with her own giant fox body or theirs, and turned his attention back to the enemies that had gathered on the path in front of him, who all instinctively took a step back in nervousness at the overwhelming feeling he was imposing upon them with just his presence alone.

"What the hell are you guys doing!? Kill him!" One of the armored humans shouted, snapping the others back as they all charged at Kratos.

Cracking his neck slightly, the ghost of Sparta then held out his hand, his palm facing toward the direction of his home. The group of enemies before him stepped back nervously, as if they were worried that something big would happen. However, after a moment, nothing occurred, and the ashen skinned spartan warrior simply shot forward, hacking and slashing his way through the first group of six like they were nothing more than butter, before throwing his axe at the man leading the next one, using his fists to crush the skulls of two swordsmen by slamming their heads together.

An enemy then came down swinging at him from above with a massive broadsword, but Kratos simply sidestepped it, causing it to miss him only by an inch and stabbing into the ground before sending a powerful haymaker punch at his chest, sending him flying and crashing through a number of trees before falling dead on the ground with his neck broken and heart shattered.

Sensing another enemy coming at him from behind, Kratos wasted no time to grab the great sword impaling on the ground by its handle and yank it to twirl around and stab the enemy, killing him instantly before he could muster a single word. Grabbing the handle with his other hand, Kratos then swung the sword widely, slicing through the body that was impaled on it without letting it being swung along with the blade, and slashed through the giant fireball that was aimed at him from above, and a three meters tall youkai standing close to him. A group of youkai and armored humans then charged at him together, but whatever they intended to do, Kratos did not allow it to happen as he threw the sword at them, forcing them to dodge before it was too late.

The moment that they turned back to look at Kratos, all that they saw was a boulder being hurled at them by the Ghost of Sparta, and this time none of them were fast enough to dodge it. Some were instantly killed as they were all sent flying back when the boulder slammed into them with enough force to just violently shatter into pieces upon impact.

"Out of the damn way!" With a battle cry, the young man dressed in Greek-inspired armor charged into battle, knocking those who weren't quick enough to move out of his way to the sides as he ran at Kratos with strong and powerful but quick footsteps. "I will deal with this old geezer myself!" He told them, before throwing a left hook at Kratos, who simply raised his palm and caught his fist before it could meet with his face. Smirking, he then tried to punch the ashen skinned warrior with his other fist, only for him to catch it as well, holding it before standing his ground firmly even as he tried to push him back while putting every ounce of his raw physical strength into his arms.

"You do not want this fight." Kratos spoke nonchalantly as he hardened his gaze at the man standing before him, who, despite having a towering physique, looked quite young.

"Oh, I think I do, old man." He said, still keeping the arrogant smirk on his face as he tried to push Kratos onto his knees, but the ashen skinned man continued to refuse to bulge, even as the ground under his feet started to crack "My name is Heracles. I carry the spirit of the Greek hero Heracles, and I will never back down from a fight."

As Kratos' eyes widen slightly in surprise when he heard that name, a glowing aura then started building up around Heracles' body, and with a push of both of his arms, the area between him and Kratos violently exploded, generating a shockwave that blasted off an entire area around them. Heracles laughed, feeling the immensely strong grips around his fists loosen before dropping, fully expecting to see the ashen skinned old man standing there with his body missing some good chunks of meat when the smoke was clear.

When the area in front of him became clear, Heracles found his eyes widening in shock when he saw Kratos still standing there as if the explosion that he unleashed just not upon him was nothing than a fancy show of firework, with his fists at his side the same, hard look in his eyes. Snarling, Heracles threw a hook at Kratos with the same glowing aura as before, but Kratos instantly raised his left knuckle to block it, withstanding the explosion that was generated from the point of impact like it was nothing before throwing his head forward, head butting Heracles hard enough to make the two meter tall, toweringly muscular man to stumble back while being stunned.

"You are nothing." Kratos' tone was as calm as before, but there was a slight edge in it that anyone could hear for the first time from the man as he stepped forward and punched Heracles in his guts, unleashing a shockwave so powerful everyone in the area could feel it.

Walking toward him, Kratos allowed Heracles' fists to hit him twice, generating the same explosions as before but like last time they did not seem to even scratch the surface of his ashen skin, before throwing two punches the exact same way, knocking the wind out of Heracles' gut before smashing him away. While Heracles was still flying back in the air, Kratos went after him, hitting his body with a series of powerful blows before jumping into the air and bringing both of his knuckles down his chest, generating a spiderweb crater on the ground as Heracles was slammed into the ground.

"You do not deserve his spirit, or his name, boy." Kratos spoke firmly as he stood over Heracles' body with one foot on his chest. Heracles looked like he wanted to say something, but the blood gushing up his throat and flowing out of his mouth and nose prevented him from doing so, all that he could do was reaching his hands up and grabbing Kratos' ankle weakly, desperately trying to push the man off of him but once again, he stood firmly in his place.

"Try to pay more attention to your surroundings next time, old man."

Before Kratos could make another move, the other person from the group he saw before came at him from the side with the tip of his long spear aiming at Kratos' chest, forcing the ashen skinned warrior to jump back to dodge it and create some distance between them as the young man stopped at his friend's side, smiling smugly as he rest the spear on his shoulder.

"Cao… Cao…"

"You don't mind if I lend you some help, do you, Heracles?" Cao Cao asked, his tone as calm and casual as it could be despite the beatdown the spartan warrior had just given his friend as he looked at him "Sorry, old man, but it'll be wise for you to go home and change your diaper now. I can't let you interfere anymore with our business."

With that said, the young man came running at Kratos, wielding his spear with the skills and grace of a seasoned warrior who had done so for years. His movement was swift and graceful, so much more than his friend Heracles, a heavy hitter. He was light on his feet and quick with his hands, his holy spear leaving arcs of light in the air as he twirled it around while the rest of his body was moving like he was performing a beautiful battle dance with his weapon, at the same time sending out deadly slashes and stabs at Kratos…

…who sidestepped and then punched him square in the face.

A sickening crunch echoed throughout the vast field of Ginkaku temple. Every armored cladded human warriors in the area watched on in shock as their leader got his face smashed in by the ashen skinned man, who threw a fist at his face and sent him flying backward, slamming into the ground and rolling several times like a ragdoll being thrown away before he was able to flip around and stab his spear down to stop himself, holding his badly bleeding nose while seeing stars.

"No! Stand back!" Cao Cao roared angrily when a group of armored cladded warriors tried to aid him, their leader, holding his hand out to stop them from advancing forward "The old man is mine, I…"

Before he could even finish giving the order, Kratos had already surged at him and threw another punch into his guts, letting him experience the same pain Heracles had felt just a moment before. Cao Cao seemed more resilient to pain, though, as he was able to twirl his spear around and try to slash Kratos with it, with its rod shortening drastically so he could aim for the man's neck from this close.

Kratos, however, had seen this attack coming from a mile away, or at the very least, he had expected Cao Cao to make an attempt like this, and shot his hand out to grab the rod of his holy spear before the arrow tip blade could reach him, stopping it on its track before reeling his fist back to start punching Cao Cao repeatedly, giving him no time to react as his body was met with a series of earthshaking blows, each one harder than the previous.

Cao Cao grunted in pain and for the first time in his life, dropped his spear in combat, but Kratos did not let up and bent over to pick him up by the legs, wrapping his own arms around his calves before twirling around and brutally slamming him face and chest into a tree, bringing the whole thing down as he smashed Cao Cao through the trunk before tossing him away, sending him flying.

Using his foot, the Spartan warrior then hurled the holy spear True Longinus up, catching it in his hand. He could feel its aura trying to resist him, but Kratos did not even bother to force his will upon it, as he simply held it firmly in his hand and threw it at Cao Cao, impaling him through the shoulder with his own spear and sending him flying even further away, much to the shock of those who were watching.

"GAHHHH!"

A scream tore through the air, and Kratos turned his head to see Heracles rushing toward him, the glowing aura around his fist transformed into objects that resembled missiles with spikes, shoulder guards and forearm protectors. Pain, shock, and even fear seemed to have overwhelmed his ability to comprehend what was happening, driving him to charge at Kratos on pure instinct, his thought process no longer functioning properly.

"If it is the way of this world, then may your spirit find a better host than this, brother." Kratos spoke in a low tone as he held out his hand.

Yasaka, who was battling another group of monsters that seemed to be a lot more resilient to her foxfire than the last, as if they were starting to adapt to her power, widened her eyes slightly when she heard something soaring through the air. It flew past her head, knocking down a robed magician who was trying to blindside her with his spell, and revealed itself to be an axe with a long and curved wooden handle and golden markings running across its surface as it flew into Kratos' hand, who followed the momentum to twirl it around and raise it over his head to bring it down upon Heracles' right shoulder, forcing him to his knees with the blade slicing through his flesh and down his chest, cutting into his heart and killing him almost instantly.

Everyone else stared at them in shock, too stunned to even dare to speak anything up as Kratos put his foot on Heracles' chest and yanked his axe back to do a full, horizontal swing and behead the man, understanding that he had wasted far too much time with this trivial matter, while remembering the moment that he killed his half-brother using his own metal gauntlets. Being reminded of what happened in the past had never been a pleasant experience for him, and he knew he had a more important matter at hand than allowing himself to get caught in his own memories.

Turning back, Kratos continued to advance toward Ginkaku Temple with the Leviathan Axe in his hand, and those still alive wisely removing themselves out of his way. Kratos also had no reason to kill them now that they had given up, and so he paid them no attention as he ran toward the temple. Behind him, Kyoto Youkai soon emerged from every direction, joining Kratos and Yasaka in their battle, aiding them.

"FOR KUNOU-SAMA!" The shrine maiden, Mina, who had a pair of fox ears on the top of her head and a single tail behind her, cried as she killed an armored human with a slashing strike of her naginata spear before holding it high in the air, with everyone else roaring in unison.

Due to the brutal display of strength from Kratos as he killed Heracles, the hero who was supposed to carry within him the spirit of the ancient Greek hero of the same name, and the arrival of Yasaka's great force, the enemies seemed to lose their morale, and the will to fight. Several flee the battle, but those who weren't smart enough to do the same, were dealt with by the joined force of Youkai and a single God of war, who eventually led the charge with Yasaka as they started pushing toward Ginkaku temple.

But before any of them could reach the place, the ground beneath him suddenly shook violently, as if the entire city was being hit by an earthquake. Much to Yasaka's horror and Kratos' bewilderment, the temple began to crumble down. Deep within, something then unleashed a violent shockwave that blasted everyone and everything off into the air, including even the ashen skinned god of war, who had stood his ground and yet still found himself being sent flying hundreds of meters away before he was able to land on his left shoulder and flip around to get back on his feet.

A glowing platform-like structure then emerged from the collapsing temple, with none other than Kunou, who was being bounded by ropes, standing at its center within a giant magic circle that spread out across the field with several youkai standing around her, seemingly performing a ritual that were breaking down the seal of the Goddess Inari.

"KUNOU!" Yasaka howled at the sight of her daughter, whose body was shaking as the overwhelming spiritual power of Kyoto flowed through her small body.

"HAHA-UE!" With an angry snarl, Yasaka tore through the monsters that were trying to pin her down and claw at her flesh, her tails whipping widely and violently to annihilated every enemy around her before she ran blindly to her daughter, who called out to Yasaka with tears in her eyes.

"CALM DOWN, YASAKA!" Kratos shouted, raising his tone for the first time as he ran after her, but his words fell into deaf ears as Yasaka continued to charge forward, being completely driven by anger and rage "WOMAN! DO YOU HEAR ME!"

"It's too late, Yasaka! WE HAVE WON!" The wolf-like youkai standing before Kunou shouted triumphantly while looking fearlessly at the charging nine tailed fox, who raised her front paw in the air to squat him like a fly upon reaching the platform.

Before she could do it, however, a massive arm with a spiked elbow then shot out from the magic circle surrounding the platform and grabbed Yasaka by her muzzle with its clawed hand, bending her neck back and forcing Yasaka to twist her body around to prevent her neck from getting snapped, stopping her before slamming her head into the ground, forcing Kratos to dive to the side to avoid being crushed under her head.

Then, another arm then rose from the magic circle, before another earthquake hit the area, causing the ground to start splitting up and the platform itself to begin breaking down on itself.

Yasaka, who knew exactly what was happening, turned herself back to her human form to free herself from the grip of the hand holding her head before instantly transforming back to her giant fox form, using her tails to bind both arms of the youkai god to prevent it from moving around too widely and hit her daughter, who was right beneath them.

Kratos, meanwhile, was able to keep his footing this time and continued his rush for Kunou despite the land around him shaking violently and starting to split, forming a large rift of pitch black darkness. Arriving at the platform, Kratos wasted no time to run up the glowing staircase of the structure with his leviathan axe hacking and slashing through anyone and anything that were in his way. An enemy with crow-like wings then flew down from the side and tried to stab Kratos with his spear, but before the god of war could deal with him, a warrior with matching wings appeared between them and blocked the attack for him before pushing the enemy back with a wide swing of his weapon.

"Go! We will cover you!" He spoke hurriedly before dashing away to engage the several enemies in a fierce aerial combat, though he was soon aided by youkai just like him, preventing enemies from reaching Kratos from the air, as he continued to as quickly as possible reach the top of the platform.

"It's done. Kyuubi's reign over Kyoto ends today. With your death… Yasaka will never regain her strength, and all will die to our god!"

To Kratos' bewilderment, however, the wolf youkai turned around and made his way over to Kunou, bringing out a dagger from under his robe and attempting to stab her with it.

Memories of the day that he cut down his own daughter flashed before his eyes, causing the ashen skinned God of war to let out a war cry as he brought the Leviathan axe behind his back, charging up its frost power before throwing it at the half-man half-wolf youkai, hitting him in the back and encasing him entirely in ice.

"Close your eyes, little girl!" He shouted and Kunou did just that, closing her eyes tightly as Kratos reached the top of the platform and slammed into the trapped youkai with so much force he shattered into bloody pieces upon impact. Before the Leviathan Axe hit the ground, Kratos called it back to his hand, and used it to deal with every single Youkai standing around Kunou, leaving trails of blood in the air as he brutally killed them all, not allowing them even the chance to surrender.

As the last youkai fell down before him in two separated parts, making the magic that was channeling the spiritual energy through Kunou's body disappear, Kratos turned around to look at the little girl, whose tears were streaming down her cheeks as she continued to keep her eyes close. Before he could tell her that it's over, Yasaka let out a painful howl in her fox form, as the unleashed youkai god tore one of her nine tails apart, breaking away from her hold just long enough to swing one arm down, smashing through the platform Kratos and Kunou were standing on and knocking them down with the entire structure finally collapsing, with the little fox girl sliding backward into the rift below.

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!" Kratos shouted as he ran after her, shrugging off all falling debris no matter the sizes and weights before diving forward and reaching his right arm out for Kunou, who cried for her mother, and for him, as she descended into the darkness below.

Skidding across the ground, Kratos' body stopped at the very edge of the rift, his arms still reaching out with the hope that he was fast enough to catch her in time, but his fingers weren't able to do it as the tips brushed over the collar of her haori, missing her by only an inch.

"Ah!" Shocked as she was as she fell to her death, Kunou's eyes widened when she saw a person coming down at Kratos from above and cried out to him as loud as she could before the man could throw himself over the edge to continue going after her "BEHIND YOU!"

Kratos widened his eyes at that, and spun around to see Cao Cao descending down upon him with his spear with enough strength to cause the ground he was lying on to shatter. Cao Cao then brought his spear down with every little bit of strength that he had, but Kratos simply shot his hand up to catch the arrow shaped head just fast enough to stop it from piercing through his chest.

"Watch the brat die, you old fool!" Cao Cao growled hatefully as he mustered every bit of strength that he had to stab Kratos, but the man continued to hold his spear still and craned his neck around to look at Kunou, who sobbed weakly as she disappeared into the darkness below.

"I GOT HER!

"Boy?!"

Just when Kratos thought all hope was lost for the little girl, someone dashed past him and Cao Cao, with the speed that shocked even the latter and threw themselves over the edge, landing on the vertical surface on the other side and sliding down a slight bit before launching themselves down, at the same time twirling around to fire three arrows up.

The first arrow, which was shot at Cao Cao, was hit away by him when he used the other end of his spear to block it, though it only served as a distraction for the second arrow, which stabbed itself through his chest, and launched Cao Cao into the air.

Having turned his torso to the side to make the arrow miss his heart, an alive Cao Cao growled hatefully as he yanked the arrow out and called for the powers of his Sacred Gear, aiming to kill both of them, even if it was the last thing that he could do.

"It's done, we got what we came for." But before he could do anything, Georg appeared at his side and told him in a firm tone, grabbing his shoulder to stop his leader from using the powers of his Sacred Gear to rain destruction down the ashen skinned man below "Let's leave this place, Cao Cao. We are done here."

And with that, the spectacled man casted a teleportation spell and warped them both away before Cao Cao could do or say anything. Down below, Kratos ignored them as he caught the third arrow, which had a rope wrapped around the center of its shaft, and then stood up on his feet to look down and wait for just the right moment to pull.

"Well done, boy!" Kratos spoke loudly as Atreus caught Kunou, wrapping his arms around her small body before turning around so that his back would slam into the vertical surface of the crack and not the little girl when Kratos tugged on the rope to stop them both from descending further before he began to pull them up.

"It's alright. I got you now." Atreus spoke in a soothing tone to the little girl in his arm, as he used an arrow to cut the ropes around Kunou's arms while holding onto the rope for his father to pull them both up, freeing the little girl from her binding. This proved to be a minor mistake, as the girl began to struggle violently against him, still looking quite shaken at what just happened "Hey hey hey, it's alright. It's alright. Look at me. I am not going to hurt you."

It was only after that that Kunou finally stopped struggling and turned her gaze at Atreus for the first time, seeing him smiling at her before looking up at Kratos, who was pulling them up with the rope wrapping around his son's arm.

"I'm Atreus, the son of the man pulling us up. You are his friend, aren't you?" Atreus spoke to her, smiling softly as she turned back to nod her head at him "What's yours?"

"K-Kunou…" She answered timidly, before turning her head around and looking down at the darkness below, yelping loudly in fright before throwing her arms tightly around Atreus' neck as if she was trying to hold onto her for dear life.

"That's what you get for looking down." Atreus said, causing the girl to swing her fist at him and hit him lightly on his chest with her tiny fist in response. "Sorry."

Chuckling softly, he patted the girl on her back to calm her down, and looked up at his father, smiling as Kratos took his hand and pulled him up, letting his son stand up before him with a hand on his shoulder.

"How did you know?" Kratos asked his son, as he got down on one knee before him.

"Mimir called and told me the axe flew out of the house when you called for it. By the way, we are going to need a new roof." Atreus finished with an amused chuckle, making Kratos snort lightly in response "I was with Aphrodite and…"

"Why were you with that goddess, again?" Kratos interrupted with a firm question, a slightly hard look in his eyes as he looked at Atreus, who became slightly uncomfortable. He knew that his father did not approve his relationship with Aphrodite… like, at all.

"Well, you know her, she…"

"It doesn't matter." Kratos shook his head and said, allowing Atreus to laugh in amusement at his way of joking with him "She brought you here?"

"Yeah, but for some reason she couldn't teleport me into the city, the place is blocked or something, so the outskirts were as far as she could take me." Atreus answered as he put Kunou down and dusted her clothing a bit "I followed the sounds of battles, and ran all the way here. I am glad that I make it in time."

Kratos gripped his son's shoulder firmly in response and then turned his attention over to Kunou, who was clinging to his son's side as she hid behind him and looked at Kratos. He simply gave her an assuring nod before standing up and turning around to walk away, his arm extending out to the side for his axe and catching it when it flew into his hand.

"Where… where are you going?"

"Helping your mother, little girl." Kratos answered Kunou simply and calmly.

"So you are going to fight that?" Atreus asked, looking at the monster that had fully emerged from the seal of Ginkaku Temple, standing over twenty feet tall and towering over everything within the proximity. It was currently being fought by the Youkai of Kyoto, but the only one who appeared to be putting up a fight against that monster, was the giant nine tailed fox who was sending wave after wave of golden fire at it. "Gonna need my help?"

"No, you stay here and protect the little girl, boy. You can provide support to me with your bow and arrows if you wish, but that will be it. Do not let her out of your sight." Kratos told his son firmly, and Atreus simply nodded his head in understanding before bringing out his bow.

"Are you sure you can kill something that big?" Atreus questioned, though he had already known the answer.

"I have killed bigger."

And with that, the God of war entered the fight, battling against the so called ancient evil youkai god with nothing but his axe. Despite Yasaka and her followers fighting the battle alongside him, with Atreus shooting his arrows to support his father whenever he saw an opening, the man seemed to win the battle all by himself, showing the strength and power far beyond anything that they had ever witnessed.

"Is… Is he really your father, onii-chan?" Kunou asked, as she watched the battle from the side with Atreus, hiding behind him to avoid the violent gushes of winds that were being unleashed by the roars of combat

"Yeah."

"You two don't look like each other."

"As I have been told." Atreus replied with a chuckle, ruffling the little girl's hair while smiling at her.

It was a battle the Youkai of Kyoto would forever remember.

End of Chapter 12

Note: And that is the end of this chapter folks! Did you guys enjoy it? I really hope that everyone enjoyed it! I have a great time writing this chapter myself. It's been a while that I have written an all out battle chapter like this one. I did say that you will have to wait for a bit to see this chapter because I intended to update Fishcake Guardian and League Summoner, but I guess I couldn't really help it and got to work on this one first.

My deepest apology to those who were expecting a clash of titans between Kratos and the Youkai monster at the end of this chapter, but I have decided to only do implications about the fight, so that this chapter could end it on a high note. I believe it's the best way for me to conclude this arc of Kratos, and how the fight went will be all up to your imaginations.

Next arc will be the Excalibur Arc, with Kratos and Atreus both returning to Kuoh for their daily life there. However, it won't mean the end of Yasaka and we won't be seeing her and her daughter Kunou for a long time.

That will be all. As always, I hope that everyone has had a great time reading this chapter. Make sure to leave behind a review once you have finished reading, and don't forget to check out my P/atreon as well as consider joining my discord community!

See you in the next update everyone!
