Disclaimer: Of course I don't own RWBY, its characters, or the franchise. That's all Rooster Teeth~
Story: Where James found himself with a penpal and writing back, and ended up with a strange kind of friendship that he was actually enjoying. If he found himself a Romeo, he supposed he could deal with being 'Juliet'.
Set as crack!AU (sometimes taken serious?), in which Ruby and Ironwood somehow become penpals before main series start and related to my other RWBY fic "Team RAMEN!"
Spoilers: Probably.
Warnings: Age disparity, maybe future situations if this is continued. Crack humor in abundance and absurdity rampant –probably OOC. Tons of fluff, though be warned of depressive moments because of undiagnosed depressive characters.
Pairings: Ruby/James Ironwood; IronRose pre-relationship.
The R&J Exchange
Chapter Six: Poetic
James groaned, not wanting to open his eyes. Sighing to himself, he peered at his clock, seeing that he was five minutes awake before his alarm was to go off. Reluctantly getting up, he made to get ready for the day. Several times his Scroll went off, messages from others bugging him already in the morning, and he ignored them in favor of getting ready. Once he was all set, he headed to his office at the Academy and told himself to keep his patience, despite his Scroll still repeatedly going off.
He'd just settled down when Winter knocked on his doors and came in after he bid her enter.
"Morning, Sir," she greeted. She held up his papers for the day and he counted to ten in his head. "I have these for you for now, and I believe a letter came in addressed to 'Juliet'? I'm not sure who that is, but it was addressed to your office."
Blinking, James accepted the papers, forgoing them for the letter. Opening it, he immediately found himself smiling, not noticing that Winter was still there and was taken aback from his expression.
Dear 'Juliet',
I found a name for you! Haha, I figure, since we're figuring out names for each other, I picked out 'Juliet'. It came to me since we're currently reading Romeo and Juliet in English class today, and since your sign off is 'J' and you are my fair, sweet maiden gentleman, I thought of you. Of course, we can change it though ;P
Thank you for your gift. It's so pretty and I really like it 3 It's so much —you really didn't have to do that for me. I'll cherish it always.
Your fighting style sounds awesome though —I'm not so much into hand to hand. I'm pretty weak at it actually, even though both my sister and my father specialize in it. Maybe you can give me tips? As for favorite books, my favorite of all time is 'Fairytales of Remnant.' I'm actually really fond of fairytales! My favorite fairytale is 'The Gift of the Moon.'
"You can't put the moon back together" after all.
Take care,
R
James laughed quietly. 'Juliet', huh? Well, it sure would throw anyone off track over his identity. He should probably encourage her to avoid referring to him as a he too, while he was at it. He was also glad she seemed to like his gift —hopefully it did what it was supposed to, and cheered her up and remind her he was there for her when she wanted to talk to someone.
Speaking of which, it seemed she was still feeling a bit down, considering the underlying melancholic tone to her letter and her last words concerning her favorite fairytale.
Well, he had something to say about that.
Paper and pen ready, he got to work on his reply.
How dost thou, sweet 'Romeo'?
After all, it's only matching that you get to be Romeo to my Juliet, R! It's oddly and funny enough, coincidental that our initials also match up to the Romeo and Juliet motif, so it is rather fitting in the end. Also, I would dearly appreciate you avoiding as much about me to others, if you wouldn't mind. I'm a bit…shy, you could say.
I'm glad you liked my gift. I was thinking of you, especially after your last letter. My favorite fairytale is 'The Warrior in the Woods.' I want to be able to help you like the Warrior helped the boy.
In these words of a lovely woman poet:
"If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain."
I won't push you, but I am here.
Your Juliet

A/n: It's been a while, darlings~ I'll try to be a little more active in the future, but no promises. In the meantime, I hope you guys liked this simple, fluffy chapter between the two :D
Quick Points:
1. That last poem at the end that James quoted is by Emily Dickinson.
2. They finally gave each other their names! Yay XD These dorks…
3. The fairytales mentioned are actual fairytales from the show and that were officially written and put together in an official published book by EC Meyers. I bought and read them just for my RWBY fanfics XD
