Bring Me a Dream, Mr. Sandman
Best Jeanist~Hakamata Tsunagu

He hummed as he braided her hair, appreciating how still she was for him. It helped especially with his injuries —Tsunagu was far from healed after the battle with that absurdly strong supervillain and it still hurt to move too much.

"Ah, Hakamata-san, thank you for doing this. I know you're still injured," Izuku told him sweetly, but she still hadn't moved.

His nimble fingers threaded through her hair. "I should be thanking you. You did not have to come visit me and see how I was doing."

No one, aside from his sidekicks and employees, had come by (and even then it was brief and mostly awkward). To his surprise, only a couple weeks after he'd awoken, he was visited in his hospital room by a UA student that he'd vaguely recognized.

And she'd been coming to see him ever since.

By now, Tsunagu knew her friends and her fellow classmates, and knew them by name. He'd become more familiar with the teachers and Pro-Heroes of the hero school than he ever had, even his somewhat friends Midnight, Eraserhead and Present Mic. Surprisingly, it was All Might that he had found out the most about.

It wasn't even common information or stalker-like information a fan might come to know —things that sounded personal and too intimate of details, like the two knew each other outside of being teacher and student, mentor and protegee. It was almost even like a friendship or something of the sort.

To be honest, he was a little envious of it.

After slowly getting to know her, Tsunagu enjoyed being around her a lot. It felt like something he hadn't known was missing was filled and he felt happy and refreshed, and it was all because of her. Her smiles were like sunshine and her eyes sparkled like jewels. It was sappy and cliche, but he could wax poetry about her all the time to be honest.

It was a little terrifying really.

He couldn't, for the life of him, ever remember being so attached to someone or becoming so like this

Just…enamored. Something about her drew him in, and when he thought on her being kind and thoughtful enough to visit, he couldn't help being pleased and so easily fond of her.

And if he was being truthful, he adored her hair. It was soft and silky, and it shimmered lovely in the light of his hospital room. When he first asked her if he could style it, as best he could in his condition, he was excited and very pleased when she said he could. And when his hands finally touched her hair, it was everything and more of what he thought of it.

He became creative, trying out first simple styles and then more elaborate ones. She was thankfully very patient and accommodating with him, more so when it came to considering his injury and not just his obsessive focus on her hair.

"Has the doctor said you can be released soon, Hakamata-san?" she asked and it was gratifying to hear his name —not his Hero name —in her voice, out of her lips.

"Soon," he said, looping a strand of her hair. "They said maybe a week more and I can go home to rest. They have not informed me when I will be fit to return to Hero duty or if I can be cleared to do anything more strenuous than rest."

"Oh," she said quietly. "I was…hoping I would be able to see you at your agency and visit you there. I don't know if you still want to see me or talk to me after you leave here…"

He felt warm that she still wanted to keep in contact with him, and uneasy at the thought that he wouldn't be able to.

"After I'm done, I'll program my number into your cell," he promised quickly. "I'll text you my home address and you can visit me there, if you would like."

"Of course! I would like that very much!" she said enthused.

He hid his smile, continuing to pay attention to her hair and enjoy the time he was having with her. For the first time in a long time, he was finding himself content and not even his current health condition could make him anything but happy.

"Is it really alright, Hakamata-san?" she asked shyly. "You don't mind me coming over? I don't want to be a bother or anything!"

"Not at all," he hmmed, finishing up with her hair. "I'll even give you the full salon treatment," he teased.

"Hakamata-san!" she giggled and he knew she was refraining from burying her face into her hands and could imagine the bright red flush on her face if he were to look over her shoulder and see it.

"You can call me Tsunagu, Izuku-chan," he said affectionately, finally done and moving her around to face him and so he could observe how she looked. He grinned from underneath his high collar. "And done! It looks very exquisite on you, Izuku-chan!"

Blushing heavily now, Izuku offered him a small smile and sweet gaze. "Thank you so much, Ha —Tsunagu-san! Whenever I go back to UA with my hair styled because of you, the other girls are always in awe. You're really good at this!"

Smug and proud, he did a tiny bow, mindful of his injuries. "At your service, Oujo-sama," he teased her again.

"Ah, Tsunagu-san!" This time she did bury her face in her hands and he laughed lightly, amused at her and enjoying himself.

"You're very easy to tease, Izuku-chan," he said, lying back gingerly on the hospital bed and taking a deep breath. "I don't remember having as much fun as I do doing that."

She was still blushing, even as she leaned over him in concern. "Did you overexert yourself, Tsunagu-san?" she nibbled at her lip.

Tiredly grasping a strand of her hair that had fluttered over him, he tugged it and smiled at her, even though she probably couldn't tell with his collar.

"I'm fine, Izuku. Thank you for everything," he murmured. "I didn't notice it before, but I suddenly realized how lonely I've been. You're…you're a really bright spot in my life."

She coughed lightly into her fist, her whole face red as she looked away. "It must be the pain meds talking, Tsunagu-san," she muttered. "You're over exaggerating!"

He wasn't, but he knew she was terribly shy when it came to being shown such affection or fondness from others. But he was terribly fond of her and found he didn't care to or want to hide that at all.

So he reached for her hand and squeezed it, waiting for her to look at him before he spoke again.

Looking into her bright verdant eyes, he took another deep breath and started to speak as sincerely as he could, hoping she would actually hear him and not just dismiss what he had to say out of embarrassment and disbelief.

"You are a wonderful, kind, and thoughtful person, Izuku. You thought to visit me, some Pro-Hero you didn't know personally, just to check on after that battle in Kamino. You went because you were actually concerned and then you continued to visit to keep me company and check in on me. Because that's the kind of person you are and I think you deserve all my thanks and more."

Izuku looked taken aback before becoming flustered. And then she gave him the sweetest smile.

"You're welcome."

And Tsunagu would take that.
