As far as impromptu tea parties went, Vi thought this one was way better than the one her sister had dragged her to. Less psychological warfare was nice. The stunt with the cupcake on the platter was really fucked up and Vi knew she'd be seeing Cupcake's decapitated head on it in her nightmares. It was inevitable. But she noticed her sister looking at younger Caitlyn, she couldn't help but see traces of Powder peeking through; J-Older Powder had none of the animosity in her eyes that Vi expected her to when she addressed young Caitlyn. She wasn't sure of the reason, but she wasn't going to ignore a step towards stability.
Looking around the spacious table they were arranged around, Vi restrained herself from running around the table to hug Claggor and Mylo close and never let go. While she was never as close to them as she was to Powder growing up, their loss was fucking awful. It occurred to her in prison that she spent more time with the boys most days than with Powder. They just didn't bring her on their raids or 'errands' that often. Vi's attention was brought back to the moment when Claggor spoke up.
"Why do you call yourself Jinx?" Claggor asked. "You," he nodded to Powder, "hate it when Mylo calls you that."
"I don't know! It's a mean name. You're mean," Powder replied, glaring at Mylo. Both Violets flinched at Powder's tone. Powder's older self just looked at her as a tiny, almost amused huff escaped her.
Caitlyn was looking at them in confusion. Vi had always called her sister Powder, even to Jinx's face, which even Caitlyn could see caused some kind of problem with Jinx. Caitlyn had no such problems. The teenager sprung into being as Jinx the Loose Cannon for her. The Lieutenant of Silco who the Enforcers feared most. The Enforcers were mostly bigger and stronger, but they'd seen some of the scenes left in her wake and didn't rate their chances against her in a face-to-face encounter.
Caitlyn focused her thoughts back to the moment; Jinx wanted to be called Jinx. It was obvious to her. Then again, in the short time she knew Vi, even Caitlyn could see that Vi's favoured mode of communication was in her body, not her voice. And by body, Caitlyn meant fists.
Though there was that time Vi proved herself capable of pinning unsuspecting noble girls up against a wall with nothing more than raw charisma and that throaty voice. Cupcake tried to hide her blush that rose unbidden at the memory of Vi and the whole brothel thing. Maybe that was a one off? She could stand for more of that kind of talk. She caught Jayce's bemused look before obscuring her face by taking another sip of tea. It wasn't a very successful deflection.
Younger Caitlyn had been looking at her older self, 'Cupcake', and saw the blush. She rolled her eyes before taking a dainty sip of her favorite tea that she knew Jayce had stocked just for her. When her parents visited, they had the same boring tea they drank when they met with other nobles. Caitlyn always preferred the fruitier variety.
Today was raspberry, and it was delicious. Looking around, she could see that Violet hadn't touched hers, Vi had tried it then put it down. Powder sniffed it before leaving it alone; but not before looking to see what Violet did. Mylo and Claggor took their cue from Violet as well and didn't drink either. Animals. It was all the teenage Caitlyn could do to not scowl at them for wasting such delicious tea. Not that it was particularly expensive. One of the reasons her parents never touched the stuff, not rich enough for their blood.
Cupcake, Caitlyn sighed internally at her older self's embarrassing nickname, was drinking her tea with a small smile, still blushing. At least that hadn't changed, raspberry tea was still a guilty pleasure then. Caitlyn could do without a side of dramatics though.
Jinx on the other hand…Jinx was actually drinking her tea with an expression of something. If Caitlyn had to put a name to it, she'd say tranquility. But anyone could enjoy tea. That wasn't the weird part. She exchanged a quick look with Jayce, and she nodded at Jinx. He looked at her for a moment and then shrugged. At least he noticed too. The part that made her and Jayce curious was the fact that everything about Jinx's etiquette regarding the tea was formal. It was like she learned from a member of the nobility how to do it. Not an uncommon thing in Piltover; but this girl was clearly from the Undercity. How'd she learn that?
Jinx noticed the tiny enforcer and the future Man of Progress looking at her oddly. Not that she minded. They couldn't have known it, but this was the flavor that Silco drank with her when it was just them. He'd used to talk to her about all sorts of things, and he always treated the tea set with such care. HE LOVED ME. AND I KILLED HIM. Jinx put down her cup before she shattered it in her grip. She was trembling badly enough as it was. She looked over to Cupcake and noticed her blush as she sneaked looks at her sister.
Jinx expressively went through several emotions before quickly glancing around the table and settling on her child doppelgänger and young Violet.
"So…explain please?" Jayce asked. Young Caitlyn shot him a look for his abruptness, but he just shrugged. "We've sat down, but we're ignoring the miracle in our midst."
Vi spoke up quickly, "A device that had Hextech in it was tampered with. And it exploded. It sent us here."
Jinx raised her eyebrows at that generous description of events. She could see Cupcake was frownier than surprised at Vi's summary. Cupcake didn't speak up to correct Vi though. Jinx regarded her suspiciously; she was probably planning something.
"Hextech?" Jayce's gleaming smile could've lit up the whole world. "It works? I'm guessing you're from the future. Or at least, a future. Professor Heimerdinger once proposed that our idea of time and causality was more nuanced than most people suspected. Apparently, there was some nefarious time magics used to deleterious effect in his youth by the mages vying for power. So, the future, yes? How is it? What does it look like?"
Jinx chuckled darkly. She looked Jayce in the face and said, "Your fancy Hextech helped make life even shittier for Zaun. But we've never been people to you huh?"
"And Shimmer didn't?" Cupcake shot back with a glare. Cupcake flinched as Jinx's shimmer formula altered eyes flashed at her.
"Shimmer's pretty fucking horrible, but it saved my life, Cupcake." Vi spoke up.
"Mine too," Jinx admitted.
"What?" Cupcake asked.
Jinx rolled her eyes while pointing to them with her fingers in a childish gesture she managed to make malicious. "You think I did this to myself?"
Cupcake hesitated, "Well…"
Jinx scoffed, "Yeah, you're a real Piltie aren't yah? Look, Shimmer's terrible if you're fucking stupid with it, but it's also used in our medical clinics to keep people alive after being fucking shot and beaten to death by enforcers." Cupcake had the decency to acknowledge the truth in Jinx's voice with a flinch.
Jinx sneered before turning back to her sister. "Was it me?"
Vi understood the question and replied, "That bitch Sevika."
Jinx's jaw clenched "Probably on his orders."
Vi considered by just shrugging. The rest of the tea party's eyes darted back and forth between the time travelers like they were watching a particularly entertaining sports match.
"The bridge?" Vi asked quietly. "I saw him pick you up himself and leave."
Jinx laughed then. It was disturbing enough sound that half the table look at Powder; what turned this sweet child into this? Jinx got herself in order, but there was a glimmer of pink down her face like a cross between blood and a teardrop. "He should've left me there. The operation was," she cut off before brushing her bioluminescent pink tear aside. "It would've been better if I stayed on the bridge. I wanted to. It was my choice." Her hand that was clenching the table began to make visible indentation into it.
Vi reached and clasped Jinx's hand in hers. Vi made the judgement call that this was maybe a little far to push her little sister in front of such impressionable 'guests'. One look at Powder, Younger Powder and Vi could see fear in those wide blue eyes.
