Welcome back to The Violet Riddle! Last time, Robert Langdon was brought to the crime scene, and translated the runes emanating from the orb, prompting Spyro, upon learning the symbols represent the four Elements he knows, uses his Aether to unlock the orb's secrets, revealing the titular Violet Riddle. And just as it's revealed, Langdon passes out, just as he foretold he would if the orb started talking. So, what does any of this mean? Today, we start piecing it together. As for specifics, read on to discover...

(Our story resumes in a hospital room, where Langdon is awakening from his brief bout of unconsciousness, with Spyro and Cynder in the room with him)

Cynder: (Seeing Langdon is regaining consciousness) Professor Langdon?

Langdon: (Groggily) Did that orb actually talk? Or was I losing my mind?

Spyro: It spoke alright. We've spent the last hour or so trying to figure out what it meant.

Cynder: And so far we're getting nowhere.

Langdon: (Realizing there's half the dragons as compared to when he first lost consciousness) Wait, where'd the other two go?

Spyro: Ember and Flame? They're finishing up the initial investigation, accompanying the Guardians' bodies to the morgue.

(After a few moments of silence, Langdon sees a parchment in Spyro's claws)

Langdon: Is that what the orb said?

Spyro: I had to reinfuse it with Aether to get this written down. And so far it's making no sense to me.

Langdon: Do you mind if I take a look at it?

Cynder: If you think you can make any sense of it, go for it.

(With that, Spyro hands Langdon the piece of paper with the orb's riddle written on it. It's at this point he notices something strange with the text)

Langdon: Wait, why are these words capitalized?

Spyro: Which ones?

Langdon: "Burning", "Cold", "Storm", "Gale", "Dark", "Terror", "Flood", "Toxic", and "Land". None of them appear to be proper nouns in the context.

Cynder: They were emphasized when spoken. Around here, that means you write it down with a capital letter.

Spyro: I can't figure out why it emphasized those words either.

Langdon: (Looks at the riddle again) I think I do.

Cynder: Well don't keep us in suspense.

Langdon: All of them relate to your Elements. Fire, Ice, Electricity, Wind, Shadow, Fear, Water, Poison, and Earth in that order.

Spyro: (Thinking about it, then realizing Langdon is probably right) How'd I not notice that?

Cynder: What do you think it means?

Langdon: I don't know for certain. But it might relate to the victims in some way.

Spyro: That makes some sense, each of the Guardians represents one of the Elements. But then what's all this talk of Nine and One?

Langdon: (Sitting up slightly) Well, Nine probably means the nine Elements. That's about the only significance of the number nine that I can think of, at least as pertains to Dragon culture. My apologies if I missed something.

Cynder: No, as far as I know you're correct.

Spyro: Wait, if this talk of Nine relates to the main Elements, then I think I've figured out what One means. It's got to be Aether.

Langdon: You keep talking about this Aether, but what exactly is it?

Cynder: The power of the Purple Dragon.

Langdon: Excuse me?

Spyro: Aether is an element that only the Purple Dragon can use. Supposedly it's only equaled by stars, gravity, and the might of passing comets or some such claim.

Langdon: So it's something to do with your Elements, we've established that.

Cynder: Hey, that's farther than we got.

Spyro: I'm still trying to figure out these last two lines. "Nine hide from the false, bring truth to the fight. And One will be revealed in Violet Light". What is that supposed to mean?

Cynder: Not to mention all that talk of being on a path of light, and completing some sort of quest.

Langdon: Sounds to me like the deceased Guardians left something to be found. Presumably by Spyro, because it's his power that unlocked the orb.

Spyro: But what would they have left? As far as I know the Guardians held no secrets.

Langdon: Looks like they wanted you to find out about this one.

Cynder: Then what are we supposed to be finding?

(At this point, Ember and Flame enter the room)

Spyro: Is it done?

Ember: The Guardians have been brought to the morgue, and everything on their bodies is being sorted through, but there's one odd thing about this.

Cynder: That being?

Flame: All nine of them were reported as wearing crystal necklaces throughout the day, but none were found on them after their deaths.

Spyro: I know the necklaces you're talking about. I saw Volteer, Terrador, and Cyril wearing them a few years ago.

Cynder: Didn't you ask what those were for at one point?

Spyro: I did, and they said they were ceremonial.

Langdon: I'd bet you five dollars the current Guardians were conducting whatever ceremony they were for when they were killed.

Cynder: That's a pretty sure bet for you, Professor.

Spyro: Wait, do you think these necklaces are the Nine mentioned in this riddle?

Langdon: That would fit, they want you to find the necklaces, or at least the gems attached to them, and maybe finish the ritual when they couldn't.

Cynder: But that just leaves the question: Where would we even start looking for them?

Spyro: I think we're due a trip to the Temple. There's bound to be something in it's library.

Langdon: Well then, we'd better get moving.

Cynder: Whoa, whoa, whoa, where do you think your going, Professor Langdon?

Langdon: I'm going with you.

Spyro: You're a civilian. We can't involve you beyond this point.

Langdon: Trust me, I've been involved in worse than this.

Spyro: We can't.

Cynder: Spyro, what if we run into more runes? Professor Langdon is the only person nearby we know who can read them.

Spyro: (Realizes she has a point) Fair enough. We'll need to get moving as soon as Professor Langdon is discharged.

(And with that, the group gets up and prepares to get moving as our scene ends for today)

And that looks like a good spot to wrap up for now. So, it looks like we're starting to figure out the Riddle. It looks like the Guardians wanted Spyro to track down the gem necklaces they were wearing at the time they were murdered. But, what exactly is this gem hunt going to reveal?
