Welcome bac to The Violet Riddle. Last time, after following the beam out of Concurrent Skies, our heroes discovered the Altar of Wind is located in the Floating Islands. After some discussion of how the Islands work and how they'll go up through them, the group takes off up through the islands as the "false one" watches on from the distance. So, what awaits in these airborne islands? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes as our heroes ascend through the Floating Islands, with the thought of falling into a volcano if Cynder's grip slips has Langdon freaking out slightly)
Langdon: Okay, okay, okay, keep calm, keep calm...
Cynder: Are you okay Professor Langdon?
Langdon: Little nervous that's all!
Cynder: Nervous? Why?
Langdon: Just trying not to think about falling into a volcano!
Cynder: Don't worry, Professor. I'm not going to drop you.
Langdon: Please don't.
Flame: We should be approaching the beam's destination any moment now!
Spyro: That was... quick.
Flame: This volcanic updraft is surprisingly active today!
Langdon: Should we be worried about that? Along with all of Warfang?
Ember: Maybe. It could mean the volcano is active. But its really more of a hole in the ground where the Destroyer entered. There hasn't been much volcanic activity before now. At least I think that's the case.
Langdon: No offense, but that's not much comfort to me.
Spyro: Alright everybody, lets take a stop off on the next island. The heat's getting to my wings.
Flame: Mine too. Good call.
(With that, the group stops off on one of the nearby islands, with Langdon looking out into the distance as they do.)
Langdon: As freaky as this is, this is honestly a great view for it.
Cynder: It really is beautiful up here. Probably the best view in the Realms.
Spyro: We should be near the Altar by now.
Langdon: So wait a second, if these islands weren't always floating, why was the Altar of Wind placed here?
Flame: Story goes that this place used to be in the eye of a massive storm that raged for centuries.
Langdon: Sort of like Jupiter's Great Red Spot, I guess.
Flame: I... think so? Astronomy was never my best subject.
Spyro: Alright, let's keep moving. We're just off the final island.
Cynder: Away we go.
(With that, Cynder grabs Langdon and the group flies off towards the final island, at the top of the chain. And on this island, there sit a pair of doors, blocking something from view. But, faint traces if violet light reveal the beam definitely went here.)
Cynder: Looks like we just barely missed it.
Spyro: The Altar must be behind these doors.
(At this point, Langdon looks at the doors and notices the figures inlaid on them.)
Langdon: What on earth are these designs? They don't look like dragons at all. A little bit more serpentine, and are those beaks?
Spyro: I noticed that when we were up here last. I've got no idea what they are.
Ember: Some ancient subspecies perhaps? Maybe dragons just used to be more bit more bird like a couple thousand years ago.
Langdon: That's certainly possible.
Flame: It makes sense, that old storm was inhabited by an ancient Wind kingdom before dragon kind came together thousands of years ago. It might be them.
Langdon: That explains the Altar of Wind being here. The ancient kingdom being it's watchers.
Spyro: Well regardless, the Altar's through here. Let's get to it.
(And with that, Spyro pushes open the doors and the group enters whatever lies in front of them. We don't see it, because the scene ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to wrap up for today. So there's a little bit of world being built. Believe it or not, there's two references to Spyro fan comics in this chapter. If you can figure them out, 20 points to your house for each reference. So, what awaits behind this door? What perils await at the Altar of Wind? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
