Welcome back to The Violet Riddle. Last time, our heroes arrived at the location where the Altar of Fear is placed, revealing it to be Ancient Grove. As they head into the poisonous everything that runs amok at this place, the Sorcerer arrives behind them, revealing to us that he has the advantage, having grown up here. So, what awaits within the Grove? Read on to discover...
(Our tale resumes deep in the Ancient Grove. At first all is quiet, too quiet. Until everything is disrupted by a yawn, coming from Langdon.)
Langdon: (Seeing everyone was caught off guard by his yawn) Sorry, just realized what time it was.
Spyro: (Reading time from the stars) It is pretty late. We might want to rest.
Cynder: Around here? Where anything could kill us?
Spyro: Surprisingly, we're in one of the safer places right now.
Cynder: Still, with the Sorcerer on our tail, I'm thinking the risk might be too high.
Flame: Even evil sorcerers have to sleep.
Ember: I'm with Cynder on this one. (Yawns) But I am also kind of tired.
Spyro: The sentiment is clear, we need to rest. But we'll make it quick. Just rest for a few moments and then we've got to get back moving.
(With that, despite Cynder's apprehension, the group stops for a moment to rest, and almost immediately drift off to sleep. Langdon is no exception, falling asleep almost as soon as he hits the Grove floor. But as he sleeps, we transition into his mind, where his dreams place him in a black void with a familiar mist floating around, forming into a familiar whisp)
?: Professor Langdon...
Langdon: (Seeing the familiar whisp) You again!
?: Yes.
Langdon: I take it Spyro was this old friend of yours?
?: Indeed he was.
Langdon: Were you the one who set this up?
?: The hiding of the gems? Yes. The Sorcerer's arrival, no. But I must warn you. That Sorcerer is one of the most powerful beings in the world.
Langdon: What do you know about him? Who are you?!
Chronicler: I may tell you some information now. You may know me as the Chronicler.
Langdon: The Chronicler?
Chronicler: Yes, and time is of the essence. You must prepare to move straightaway. The Sorcerer has the homefield advantage. You must get on the move.
Langdon: Wait, what do you know?!
Chronicler: There is no time for me to reveal that quite yet. Worry not, you will see me soon. I will reveal everything to you then. For now, you must go. The fate of the Realms is in your hands.
Langdon: (As the dream starts fading) Wait, you can't just do this!
(At this point, Langdon wakes up startled, catching the attention of everyone)
Spyro: Are you okay, Professor Langdon?
Langdon: (Remembering the Chronicler's words) Yeah, I'm fine. But we've got to get moving.
Flame: Now? But we just got to rest!
Langdon: Trust me, we have to get moving.
Cynder: What's going on, Professor Langdon?
Langdon: I'll explain later.
Spyro: You will explain now, Professor.
Langdon: You wouldn't believe me if I told you.
Cynder: Try us.
Langdon: Okay, something came to me in my dreams and essentially set me up on this quest.
Spyro: Wait, what?
Langdon: I know, it's unbelievable...
Spyro: No, it's not. It happened to me too. There's only one dragon in the Realms that can do that.
Cynder: The Chronicler.
Langdon: That's exactly what he called himself!
Spyro: If the Chronicler is communicating with you, then things are much more severe than we thought. We have to move. Now.
Cynder: Agreed.
(Sensing the urgency, the group moves out, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good place to end for now. So, the Chronicler was the one who reached out to Langdon in the start of this. And when he gets involved, you know things are serious. I wonder if Spyro and Cynder know who's Chronicling now... More on that later. So, will this sudden urgency allow our heroes to get to the Altar of Fear in time? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
