This is the Finale of the 40th Story Special. Last time, on the way to the Altar of Water, the Sorcerer attacked our remaining three heroes. And after a dogfight in midair, including Professor Langdon choking out the Sorcerer for a time, an exploding ball of dark fire caused our terrific trio to fall out of the sky. What happened to them? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up on an island somewhere, where Spyro, Cynder, and Langdon are passed out on the shore. But before long, each regains consciousness, slowly but steadily)
Langdon: Wh... where are we?
Cynder: (Looking around) I... I have no idea...
Spyro: (Seeing the exact same thing, but recognizing it) I do.
Cynder: Then... where are we?
Spyro: This is the White Isle. The home of the Chronicler.
Langdon: But wait a second, how did we get here? Last thing I remember we were falling into the ocean.
(At this point, something starts moving off the shore, revealing a giant turtle like creature.)
Spyro: If I had to guess, that's how.
Langdon: What was that?
Spyro: Unsure. All I know is it was what brought me here last time.
Langdon: You've been here before?
Spyro: Long story short, it was the last time I interacted with the Chronicler.
Langdon: Hope he's in. I've got a few questions about why he's been communicating with me.
Cynder: But what about the Altar of Water?
(At this point, Langdon sees something above them, a familiar purple beam)
Langdon: I'm thinking it's here. Look!
(Now the three look skyward and see the purple beam that lead them from Ancient Grove to here)
Spyro: Wait, the Altar's here? How's anyone supposed to find it?
Cynder: No time to question it. We've got to get moving. Spyro, lead the way!
(Realizing what they have to do, Spyro leads Cynder and Langdon in the direction of the purple beam, eventually leading the two through a hole in a decorative wall element leading them to a central hall with four doors surrounded by collapsed stone cairns.)
Spyro: I see nobody's set these things back up since I was here.
Chronicler: With good reason. I have been expecting you for some time.
Langdon: You again!
Cynder: You recognize that voice?
Langdon: He's the guy who was talking to me in my dreams, why?
Spyro: Because that's not the Chronicler.
Chronicler: Perhaps not the one you interacted with previously, but I am still the Chronicler.
(At this point, a door nearby opens, revealing the Chronicler's full visage, stunning Spyro and Cynder)
Ignitus: I hope the familiar visage doesn't startle anyone.
Spyro and Cynder: Ignitus?!
Ignitus: It's been too long since I've seen you, young dragons. (To Langdon) And I've awaited this meeting, Professor Langdon.
Langdon: So you're the guy who's been in my head?
Ignitus: I apologize for being so secretive about everything. But this was of the utmost importance.
Langdon: Okay, I have so many questions. Chief among them, WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!
Ignitus: I understand there is much you wish to know. Now that you have arrived, I will reveal all. But before we do, I believe you're looking for this.
(At this point, Ignitus holds up a gem necklace)
Cynder: The Altar was here!
Ignitus: I found it on one of the bookcases this morning. I knew you would be here to claim it eventually. But the time for necklaces is nearing an end. Before you can continue on this quest, you must know the full story of this ancient legend. Come, I will show you all you need to know.
(With that, Ignitus ushers all three of them into the room he's in, and as they enter, our tale ends for today)
