*** Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good week! I put on Twilight the movie for some background noise today while I cleaned (I have a husky. Enough said) and the first line with Bella narrating how dying in the place of someone she loved would seem like a good way to go. . . ugh. I have so much to rant on regarding her personality and choices. I was vexed.
On a separate note, the story is about to go to mature levels, and I am not simply talking about making out in past tense. Things will get passionate, gloves will come off, and there will be utter brutality at times. I don't write this to scare, intimidate, or make false promises to anyone who reads this. I simply am giving a warning. I hope you all enjoy this chapter! ***
That night she dreamt of running through the woods that surrounded forks.
At first, she thought she was being hunted, her heart racing in her chest. Her curls wiping around as she sprinted through the trees, branches cutting into her cheek every so often. She could feel the sting of the branches but kept moving forward.
It wasn't until she ran into a clearing that she realized she wasn't being hunted.
She was the huntress.
A woman with flaming hair, wild as a raging inferno, turned to face her. In her hand's was someone but she couldn't focus on their face. All she could see was this woman, blood dripping from her chin. Around her were body parts.
It wasn't until the woman tossed a head down the clearing towards her that she realized who they belong to.
The pale arm detached from its socket had a bracelet she recognized.
Alice.
Over by her foot was a leg that was very clearly Emmett's.
Piece by piece she put together the body parts surrounding her with those she had grown to love.
The head finally stopped rolling as it hit against her feet, face towards the ground hidden from her sight.
Trembling with rage and sorrow she bent down to pick it up and turn it towards her.
The beautiful familiar eyes of Jasper staired up at her, unseeing.
She screamed, and everything rushed away.
She was screaming when she woke up, sitting upright in her bed. John and Sarah had come tumbling into her room at the sound of their daughter's heartbreaking distress.
Bless him, John had a shotgun with him.
"Where are there?" John whispered, pointing towards her closet. Sarah came to hold her daughter tightly in a hug as she kept screaming, rocking back and forth as she sat in her bed.
John got to her closet door before pausing and throwing it open. His shotgun was ready to go off at any moment, but after he ran his hands through the clothing hanging up he lowered his weapon slightly and faced his family.
"What happened?" He asked, confused and still on edge.
Sarah was trying to comfort Lily shushing at her and rubbing her back. Lily's screams had turned into heart wrenching sobs into her mother's chest.
"Lily!" John shouted, getting her attention at him having raised his voice. He hated to do it, but they needed answers if someone had hurt her. In a quieter tone, he asked once more "what happened?"
Lily tried to swallow her emotions long enough to get control of her voice. "It… it was just a really bad dream."
"Bullshit-"
"John!" Sarah said sternly.
John closed his eyes trying to settle his nerves before continuing. "Lily love, that wasn't just any old bad dream. What's going on?"
"Dad, I can't- "but she saw in her mind's eye Jasper's eyes once more before losing herself to her emotions once more.
John looked to Sarah before nodding, letting her know she needed to get something to calm the girl down. At this rate she would hurt herself with such extreme emotion. Sarah got up and John took her seat, resting the shotgun with the safety on pointing away from everyone on the bedside table.
"Lily, listen to me. Your mother's grabbing you something to help you calm down. Everything's okay, everyone's safe, nothing can hurt you here." He held her close to him just as his wife had previously. "Just try to focus on the 5 things method. Come on now, talk me through it." On and on he went trying to get her to calm down even a hair. Sarah came back with three glasses and a bottle of brandy.
As a nurse, she knew she should have gone to anxiety medication. However, she knew sometimes something simple worked too.
She poured a glass for Lily and one for John, passing them to him and he passed one to Lily. "Come on little love, drink."
Lily listened, taking the glass and drinking. The adults followed shortly after. They sat in silence for a few minutes before Lily took a deep breath and spoke once more.
"I'm sorry. . . I don't know what happened" she started off saying. "I. . . you know how I'm different?"
"Love. . ."
"Dad, I grow fangs. It's weird. But anyways its not my secret to tell but there are other people who. . . who aren't all human."
John and Sarah just staired at the girl.
"I know. . . it's hard but"
Sarah interrupted Lily snorting. "Lily, you really think after you started going through this we just assumed you were the only one?"
Lily just stared at Sarah with her mouth gaping open.
"I know, shocker" Sarah teased. "Love, the world is insane. Nobody knows everything about the world. Heck, we don't even know everything about what's in our oceans or the rainforests. The chances of other people having gifts in the world are pretty high."
Lily closed her mouth and her mouth turned down into a frown. "Somethings going on and its. . . I'm scared. I'm safe, we are safe, but some of my. . . my friends might get hurt."
"And this has to do with those like you honey?" Sarah asked, concerned.
"Yeah. . . I don't know the details. . . but I had a nightmare. . . "she closed her eyes and bit her lip, trying not to focus on the memory of the dream. "I dreamt that all of them were killed." She started to cry again, john passing her another glass of alcohol.
Lily caught her breath and tried to slow her breathing down after she drank her drink.
Sarah pushed on. "Can you tell us if we can help? Keep them safe?"
Lily opened her eyes and looked up at the woman she had grown to love as her mother. This amazing woman.
"No Mom, its so far out of anyone's hands at this point."
"Sweetheart, there has to be something" Sarah insisted.
Lily closed her eyes again and shook her head. "I'm barely in the know about what's going on. They've all been. . . different for a lot longer than I have. I don't really get allowed into their war councils."
That got John's attention.
"War councils? Is there going to be a fight?" John asked, concerned.
Lily's facial expression must have been obvious, because John immediately knew he was right.
"When, where? Do we need to leave?" He pressed.
"No dad, stop!" Lily tried to slow him down, but it didn't work.
"Lily, listen to me. If there is a fight coming, I need to get you all out of here. I can't risk you."
"I don't know dad. . . I'll find out more tomorrow, I think. But I don't know the details really yet."
John turned to face his wife and had an entire conversation with their eyes before he turned back to Lily. "You're sure you have to be involved in this meeting thing tomorrow?"
"Dad, they're my friends. I'm going. How else can I find out more information?"
"I don't like this Lily. I don't like not knowing you're safe."
I know- "But john interrupted her by holding his hand up, signaling her to shush.
"If we allow you to go, and that is a gargantuan if, you will be in constant communication with us while you are there and give us a full explanation once you are home."
Lily nodded her head.
"Are you okay now?" Sarah asked, breaking the topic.
"Not really, I think I'm just going to take a shower. Maybe that will help."
Sarah came closer to the bed, leaning over to kiss Lily on her forehead. "Goodnight sweetheart, please feel better."
John hugged Lily before getting up. "We'll talk more in the morning kid. Get some rest."
After the couple left her room, Lily brought her knees up to her chest, hugging them close to her and closed her eyes.
Was that nightmare just a dream? Was it a warning lily thought to herself? Alice was the one who got premonitions. She was the plant girl. They were very different things.
She eventually grabbed her phone before moving to get off the bed. The screen of her phone flashed with notifications. Looking at the screen closer, Lily realized she had 4 missed calls and 27 messages all from various Cullens.
A knock at her window nearly caused her to scream, but she had covered her mouth quickly enough to muffle it.
There, crouched outside her window, was Jasper. He pointed towards the bottom of the window, signaling he wanted to enter. Lily nodded slowly.
After shimmying through the window, Jasper vamped over to her and hugged her close to him. She could feel his powers wrapping around her as comforting as his hug physically was. She instantly relaxed.
"Doll, what happened? I felt your heartbreak and you weren't answering."
"I had a bad dream."
Jasper put his finger under her chin and gently tilted her head to look him in his eye. "I hate ta' say it doll, but that was somethin' else."
"I dreamed of the fight I think. . ." she whispered.
Jasper shifted her so that he was sitting on the bed with her across his lap. "Darlin', I promise, everything is going to be okay. Nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever hurt you again."
"Who was she?"
"Who Doll?"
"The vampire. She was drinking from someone and... she had fiery red hair."
"How did you?" Jasper began to ask but bus phone started to vibrate.
He picked it up and answered it quickly. He barely spoke, choosing instead to hmm at appropriate moments. After a minute or two, he hung up.
"That was Alice, and she says your dream isn't real. It won't happen and that you need to get some sleep. "
Lily's shoulder's relaxed after hearing that before burying her face into his chest.
"Love, you need to get some rest."
"What if I dream of her again? Who was she Jas?"
"That might have been Victoria. We killed her mate. I think you know the story actually."
"So, I was right?"
"I don't know Doll, but whatever you dreamt it wasn't real. Alice said it was just a dream. Tomorrow we'll be at the practice, and you'll see everything is going to be okay."
"Jas I'm scared. If it's going to be a battle, we don't have numbers."
"Lily, you know I've got experience with newborns. . ." Jasper said quietly, his voice rough with emotion.
"Jas- "
"Listen Darlin', our family will be safe. We can handle this." He kissed her softly before bundling her up in her blanket, shower plans all but forgotten.
Lily hummed happily at the warmth from her blankets, eyes heavy at the emotion's Jasper was projecting to help her relax and sleep.
"Sleep well little dove."
