Chapter 10 – We would get drunk

"…Hello…" I frown as I look at the clock, the voice that greeted the phone now seemed like they just woke up.

"Lucy?" I ask into the phone and there is a moment of silence.

"Hey, hello?" she answers from the other side. "Natsu is that you?" she asks and it seems that I have just woken her up. It was the middle of the day and she was still sleeping, how the hell did that even work?

"Did I wake you?" I ask and I hear some scuffling in the background and then a small yawl escapes her throat.

"It's okay, what's up?" she asks and I feel like I am out of the loop, the last time I saw her was last week Friday, she wasn't at work all week and it was now Friday again and I was on my way home at 16:00, so many questions was running through my mind. Where was she, what kind of family emergency did she have, why was she sleeping now?

"I am supposed to ask you what's up. Haven't heard or seen you in like a week." I ask and at this another yawl escapes her throat. "Is everything okay?" I ask and I hear silence on the other side. "Are you okay?" I ask and I was actually worried about her. It's just not normal to not at least get one message from her every week. I sigh as the silence continue.

"Would you mind if I call you later?" she asks.

"Okay." I say and I wanted to press further for what was going on, why she pulled a disappearing act, but again I had to remind myself she was not my girlfriend and she was not my wife. I had no ground to even be concern unless it was in a capacity of a friend. I say again as I continue to listen to her.

"Talk to you later. Bye Natsu." She answers into the phone.

"Bye Lucy." And with that I end the call and I look at the screen, completely and utterly confused. Now there is one thing you should know. Laxus was private, Lucy was private yet she was an open book when it came to her life. I was an open book to her but private to the world. And it bothered me that I didn't know what was going on. Laxus wasn't talking so I didn't know what was going on in his mind, not that I ever did. I place my phone in the door panel as I take a left.

I felt strange since last week because of how Lucy reacted when I touched her, and thereafter at my house when they mentioned her and Laxus being together. It irked me and I didn't understand why. I was feeling things that I shouldn't and I could not understand why. I sigh again and look to the road. What was happening with me?

Things just felt like that they were turned upside down. My wife was strangely loving with me, Lucy was still in sight and in agreement with what we were doing and now Laxus wanted to officially make her his girlfriend. You can see why I seem to be frustrated. It was not like I didn't want my long-time friend, Laxus to be unhappy. I wanted him happy and in love but I didn't want him to be with Lucy. But who was I to deny him and her their happiness.

"I don't know why this has happened, but I probably deserve it, I tried to do my best, but you know that I'm not perfect"Powfu – Death bed

I sigh as I walk to the back office, not to sure who would be there or if I would only find the door closed. It has been a busy week and my focus was all over. We have been doing strange hours all week and it was like we never got a chance to get to the office because we worked outside.

The back office is silent as I approach it and it almost seems that there is no one there but to my surprise both Captain Cana and Lucy's door is still open. I walk to Cana's office first and as I knock, I pop my head into the room as I see her busy typing on her laptop. She looks to me and she smiles. "Hey Natsu," she says with a smile as she turns to me.

"Hey Cana. How are you?" I greet as I move more into the office and sit on the chair opposite to the door, looking into Lucy's office. It almost seems eerie and vacant.

"I'm good and how are you, you guys have been so quiet lately." Cana says as she looks to me and I finally face her. I sign knowing what she said was completely true but there was nothing we could do about that.

"Work. You know…" I reply and to this she gives out a soft giggle and nod her head.

"Of course. I wanted to tell you about some stuff you guys need to look at…" Cana goes quiet as she turns to her laptop, she scrolls on her mouse as she looks through her documents. I notice a stir in Lucy's office and turn my attention back to the doorway. I hear a nose and then steps and then I see her. She was looking at the ground as she went, earphones plugged in as she silently moves forward and then turns, not once looking up to see me or anything in front of her. I furrow my brows and turn back to Cana who is still busy on her laptop, looking for whatever it is that she is looking for. It takes a while and soon I hear steps making their way back again and I just see the silhouette of Lucy as she walks into her office. Not even a words.

"Cana, I'll be right back." I say as I rise to my feet and I watch and see Cana just nod her head and she continues to scroll. I walk slowly towards Lucy's office and I knock once before stepping in but I know for a fact that she wouldn't hear me because she was listening to her music, I take another step into the office and turn to where she is seated. She is whole heartedly typing away on her computer and does not even notice that I am there. I look to her face as her eyes focusses on her keyboard and I take another step forward.

I make my way over to her and stand next to her, watching the words that she is typing on the screen, she seemed so zoned in that I almost felt bad for disrupting her because when I placed my hand on her shoulder she calmly looks up and her eyes meet mine as she blinks and then her hands stops moving over the keyboard and she slowly moves to remove her earphones. Her eyes lock with mine.

Once her earphones are out she places them on the table she takes a breath. "Hey…" Her reply held no emotion as the word left her mouth, and her eyes held no shine as she looks to me. I take a step closer and I place my arm around her sitting form in a half ass attempt to hug her.

"Hey Luce, how are you?" I ask as I look down her, she makes no effort to return the hug and this makes me feel uneasy, like something happened to her and things has finally changed. I feel my resolve slipping and I find myself nervous.

"I'm okay and you?" she asks as I finally remove my arm from her as it looked like she didn't like it that I was embracing her. I take a step back and I really look at her. There was no smile on her lips, no sparkle in those eyes.

"Why don't I believe you?" I say as I raise an eyebrow and I feel awkward as I stand there looking at her. But there is a hint of a smile to her lip as I say this and she shakes her head from side to side. "What's going on?" I find myself asking and I give her a more serious look.

She sighs as she sits back in her seat and she looks forward as she sighs again. There is a humourless laugh that leaves her lips. "It's just stupid shit." She says, blowing out another breath of air. I could see that something was weighing heavily on her but it also seemed like she was having an inner battle on whether or not to talk.

We hear footsteps and I furrow my eyes but I take this as a hint and walk towards Aries table and take a seat at her desk and soon the footsteps approaches us and Laxus enters the office. He looks to me then to Lucy who gives him a smile and he just nods his head. "Yes, what are you two up too?" he asks walking over to Erza's table and taking a seat.

"I was actually talking to Cana when I saw Lucy and wanted to greet her." I say as I pull out my phone and I scan over the screen to see if I have any new messages. "I haven't seen her since the barbeque." I say and I glance to Lucy as she looks to me and she smiles. "So what's up?" I ask and I look to Laxus who seems nonchalant as he smiles over to Lucy.

"Not much. Just had to take care of something." Lucy replies and I frown as I still don't know why they left in such a hurry that night and where she had been for the previous week. "But it is somewhat sorted now." She replies and I raise an eyebrow.

"What was the problem?" I asks as I see Laxus recline in Erza's chair as he looks to me then Lucy.

Lucy sits completely still for a moment as it looks like she is mulling it over in her head what she was going to say. But I could see that she didn't want to talk at all about this. It was exactly like that one day when I found her crying. But yet today she wasn't crying, she was just not showing emotion at all.

"Don't sweat it, just a family problem." She says as she gives a smile and yet again I can see that it's not a real smile but Laxus doesn't notice this. He accepts this fake ass smile and just nods his head. Maybe he already knew what the problem was. "But it is sorted now." She says and I don't know Lucy was just being Lucy and she was being extra mysterious.

"Don't show up, don't come out, Don't start caring about me now, walk away, you know how, Don't start caring about me now"Dua Lipa – Don't start now

She was sitting outside, she had her phone to her ear as she spoke in a low voice, every once in a while she would look around and then she would focus again and continue talking. I watch her as I bring my smoke to my lips and inhale. I narrow my eyes as I continue to look at her. I take a step closer and then another as I can soon hear her voice even if it is low.

"I guess everything is fine…" she says and then she holds and listens to the person on the other side of the phone." Yeah, but I had to go. I just knew I had to when they called me." I listen to her as I take another step closer, hiding behind a tree so she can't see me. "I wish I had more time there but sadly not. I would love to vacation there sometime." I hear and then I frown as I inhale again. What was she even talking about? I take a step to the right and then I watch as she looks to the ground, her hair covering her face as she takes a deep breath.

She slowly looks back up and as she look up again she casually looks from one side to another and that is when she notices me standing a few steps away from her. She gives me a soft smile then she motions to me to take a seat across from her.

I move slow as I take a few more steps and then I take a seat across from her, I reach for my cigarettes and pop one in my mouth and light it. "They said they would call me, but I asked them to rather contact his parents instead." She continues to talk and I frown as I listen to this one sided conversation. "But we can talk about this when I see you this weekend." She says as she smiles. "Talk later. Bye." She says as she ends the call and as soon as the call is ended she sighs and she places the phone on the table.

"What was that all about?" I ask and she looks up, her eyes meeting mine.

"Just my friend needing an update." She says as she reaches out her arms and she stretches and that makes her shirt tighten over her breasts and I need to gulp at that view.

"So what happened? Or are you going to leave me in the dark too?" I ask as I take a drag from my cigarette and place my packet of cigarettes on the table with my cell phone and car keys. She looks from side to side and then sighs like she just didn't want to repeat herself again.

"Maybe…" she says and then her eyes meet mine. She seemed nervous and on edge and like she was hiding. She sighs again and then shakes her head slightly from side to side. "So there was an incident, and I am still listed at Chaise's next of kin. They called me and asked me to come and because it was so serious and they couldn't get a hold of his parents, I went." Her eyes meet mine for a second and there is a sadness in them but she had a smile on her lips.

"Did he get hurt or what?" I ask not really understanding what was going on and why she would do this.

"I can't say much other then what was showed on the news but yeah he ended up in ICU. They called me to come." She replies placing her hands on her lap.

I lock my eyes with hers. "And you just went?" I ask a bit agitated. The sudden burst of jealousy that went through me caught me off guard. I was agitated that she would just up and leave for an ex-boyfriend who treated her like shit. I was getting angry.

"Yes. But I only stayed until he got out of ICU. And we didn't speak or anything, I mainly visited him when he was sleeping. I contacted his parents as well so now they know too. That's when I left." Lucy states and the more she talks the more I get agitated. Because he treated her like shit and she still ended up going to him in his time of need.

"Why would you even do that Lucy? After everything he put you through?" I ask and then my eyes meets her eyes again. Her eyes bored into mine as she stared at me.

"Why are you getting angry?" Lucy asks and she tilts her head to the side. She was asking why I'm getting angry… he is her ex, he royally fucked her up and broke her, and he doesn't deserve her to even worry or care about him. Those words popped up in my mind, but when I wanted to say it I couldn't because I was nothing of her to act the way I was in my mind.

"How do you think Laxus would feel knowing this?" I ask and at the Lucy sits back and sighs again.

"He isn't going to find out." She says before looking up to me, her eyes finding mine. "Or should I worry about you telling him? So much for venting to a friend." The last part she said under her breath but I heard it. And it hit hard.

"No. It's not my place." I say and at this Lucy giggles, it's humourless and almost sad. "Even thou I feel jealous and angry about this I can't help but feel admirable towards you, your always there trying to help and assist." I say and at this she smiles and looks to me.

"You know I'd do the same for you." Lucy replies as she reaches over and lightly strokes my hand, when her skin touches mine I almost melt. She was soft and smooth. "I think I'd do more for you." That was low but I heard it. I smile at this and look down.

"So you had no problem paying for the flight and accommodation just to go check on him?" I ask more questions popping into mind as I run the scenario.

"No, I didn't pay, they flew me out since I was listed as his fiancé." This made my blood boil as I stare at her in complete surprise. "And I wasn't there long. I was in the hospital room once when he was awake and aware. But I explained to his Sergeant everything and they all were still under the impression we were still together. But it is sorted out now." I stare at her and her face seems characterless. Something wasn't right about this or her.

"What did you tell Laxus and the work for your absence?" I ask and she looks to the side taking in a deep breath.

"Just a family problem." She says and then she places her hands on either side of her and she pushes off of the stool. She looks from side to side and then she looks to me a soft smile on her lips. "Let me head inside." At this I rise as well and I reach my arms to her in an effort to hug her which she gracefully accepted and she stood in my embrace longer then she should have but it was what she needed.

"Is everything sorted for tonight?" I ask as myself, Zeref and Laxus make our way towards Lucy's office.

"Well I assume it is." Laxus replies and I shake my head. I am sure he didn't plan anything at all and would just wing it.

"She will love it." Zeref says and I turn somewhat as I look to them both behind me. Both of them where beyond basic. I turn and sneak past Cana's office towards Lucy's office. Cana has been looking for me the whole week about something stupid and I just didn't want to face her at the moment. I turn into the office and the room is filled with flowers and packages and just a lot of shit. Aries is sitting at her desk as she just looks to me and she shakes her head.

"Holy fucking hell," I hear Zeref say as he walks up behind me and he gets a look at the array of gifts scattered in the office. Laxus soon enters and stops as well as he looks at the room.

"What the fuck?" he asks as he takes a step closer and then he starts looking at the gifts. I'm not sure if I was excited or jealous or angry. But holy fuck someone must really love Lucy.

"Seems there are a lot of people who sent Lucy gifts." Aries says as she sits back to look at us. I take a step towards Lucy's desk and I take a card in my hand, opening it and reading the inside.

I close the card and place it back when we hear some steps thinking that it's the birthday girl. But to our surprise it's an elderly gentleman holding up a bouquet of flowers, a teddy and a box.

"I am looking for a Miss Lucy Heartfelia?" he asks and I see that the other two males are more focused on the other chocolate bouquets and flowers so I take a step close.

"I can sign for her." I reply and the elderly gentleman smiles brightly as he hands me the flowers and I place it on the table and then the teddy before he manages to give me the book to sign for the gifts.

"Is it the lady's birthday?" he asks as I grab for a pen and quickly signs.

"Yes." I reply taking the box from him.

"She must be something special. Please convey my birthday wishes to her and ask her to open the box with care." The man says and I nod my head as I look to the box in question. The elderly man gives a wave and then smiles as he turns and he leave. We hear some more footsteps and we all watch to see Cana walk in, her eyes wide as she looks at the gifts.

"This is all for Lucy?" she asks and at this I just nod.

"She is on special girl it seems." Aries replies as Laxus and Zeref continues to look through the gift. And that's when I hear her. The girl of the moment as her voice starts of faint but gets harder.

"…Awe that was so sweet but you didn't need to…" we hear her say and soon she walks into the room and she is smiling from side to side as she holds yet another flower bouquet in her hands and a male follows her, with a box of yet more chocolate. She smiles as she walks in and then the looks around until she finds a place for her gifts. "Right there…" she says as Levy also joins holding a cake in her hands.

She waves off the male and then she looks around the room and she smiles brightly as the others in the room continue to inspect he gifts.

"I am going to cut the cake since most people are here…" Levy states as she stands to the side and she opens the packing of the cake. Lucy just nods her head as she smiles.

"Lucy you are one lucky girl." Cana states as she looks at the flowers that was brought into the office.

"Thank you Captain, I didn't expect any of this." Lucy states and I just continue to look at her as she admired her gifts.

"Who is the senders?" I ask and at this she smiles brightly. She walks to her desk and points to flowers and macaroons and chocolates and a bottle of champagne.

"This is from my guild! You know that game I play?" she says as she puts everything together then moves to the next bouquet of flowers with a crate of chocolate. "This is from my ROD, Wong. And that is from another close friend, Andrew, this one is from our guild leader, Drefrel." I look to another box that is left unmentioned.

"And these two?" I ask pointing to the gift I received for her and the box that just stood on the table. She frowns a bit but she walks to me as she looks to the flowers and then it's like realization sets in and she takes the teddy putting it to the side before pulling the box to her and she cracks it open a little till she gets the card.

Everyone goes silent as we look at her, silently urging her to read it. She flips it open and she scrunched her eyes as she reads the card then looks to the other box. She narrows her eyes and then she looks to Laxus who has his eyes trained on her.

"It's from my bestie." She says and at this she folds the card and places it back in the box.

"Aren't you opening it?" Zeref asks and Lucy smiles as she shakes her head.

"If I know my friend… no. Instead let's eat cake." Lucy rushes as she quickly places the gifts together and then move to hand over pieces of cake.

POP!

I look to Laxus as he sits in Erza's chair, he opened the champagne and was now looking for glasses. At this Lucy just smiles as she looks to me.

"If I didn't know any better I'd say that was a shot fired." I say as I pull my firearm and hide behind the shelf as I spy at Laxus. Lucy's laughs as she shakes her head at me and then she rises and walks to Laxus retrieving two glasses of champagne. She walks over to me and hands me on.

"We can't drink on duty!" at this Laxus just laughs.

"It's 15:30….do you actually care?" Laxus asks taking a sip and Lucy giggles.

"It's for my birthday Natsu… drink up!" Lucy says and at this I role my eyes as I take a sip of the champagne which has now turned warm but I drink it nether the less. It was for Lucy's birthday. She giggles as she downs her drink then walk over to Laxus taking the bottle from him and pouring more for her and then me.

"Okay so what is the plans after this?" Lucy asks as she takes a seat again and she looks to Laxus then me. Okay I had to stick to the plan now.

"My wife and I will be taking you out for dinner." I reply taking a sip. And I watch as Lucy almost chokes, she looks to me her eyes full of disbelief.

"What!?" she asks placing her glass on the table and looking to me. She was really beyond surprised.

"What's wrong with that?" I ask as I raise a brow, I look to Laxus who smiles and then winks at me. Lucy not catching this at all but she seemed appalled by the idea that my wife and I would take her out.

"Nothing… just how will I get all this home?" She says as she looks to Laxus who shrugs.

"You got it, you should make a plan to get it home." Was his reply and to this she rolls her eyes as she grabs for her phone.

"Fine, let me call a friend to help me." She replies as her fingers run over her phone screen but Laxus is too fast as he rises to his feet and he grabs at her phone shaking his head.

"I'm joking." Laxus states as he takes the final sip of his drink and at this Lucy looks up to him in wonder and she smiles. I sigh as I down my drink and shake my head.

"I am going to smoke." I say as I place my glass on the table.

"Can you help carry some of this shit to the car?" Laxus asks and I just sigh nodding my head. "My car is open." He states as I look around for what I could take so long. But Lucy soon pushes the teddy and boxes she received from her friend towards me.

"Take that." She says as I furrow my brow but nod my head taking the two boxes and teddy. I turn and make my way outside and towards Laxus car parked near the tree I usually smoke at. I open the trunk and place the boxes in the boot. I eye the one she peaked open. The one with the card.

Curiosity got the better part of me as I pick the box open and pull the card closer. I open it and I look at the handwriting. The person had a shittier handwriting then my doctor.

I read the first sentence and then stop as I re-read it again and then I continue. Had she openly lied about who this was from? I raise a brow. I bite the inside of my lip and stare at the words for a while longer.

' … CC Da….' There was a smudge on the senders name but I knew who it was. I frown again and I can't explain the anger that filled me. First he broke her heart, then he has her flying out because he was in an accident and now this piece of shit card and gift.

If I ever placed my hands on Chaise… Lucy's ex… I would kill him. But maybe I didn't know the whole story and why he even sent her something for her for her birthday. I stare at the card not even noticing the person behind me placing things into the trunk of Laxus' car until her hands wrapped over mine and the card.

"That was private." I hear her voice as she pulls the card from my hand and then she looks at it again and she places it back where I took it from. I turn slightly and her eyes meet mine. "Don't think a card and flowers and a gift will ever make me forgive him." She mutters under her breath as she pulls everything in the trunk straight.

"How can you even accept his gift?" I ask and I am sieving right now from anger.

"I have no control in what I get sent. So don't even." She mutters as she continues to stare at me. And she was right, she had no control over this or what or who sent her anything. "So forgive me if I just want to uphold the peace." She says and at this I look up because she had a point.

"Move you two!" we hear Laxus say as he busts out of the house and moves towards his car, a flower bouquet in each arm and we instantly side step each other as he places the flowers down. "Lucy you didn't get any pictures for your birthday!" Laxus stats as he smiles towards us.

I nod my head and at this she pulls out her phone and she first grabs at Laxus as they pose for a few selfie before she moves to me and I place my arm around her as she snaps a photo or two before Laxus bombarded us and we took a picture of the three of us even though I wasn't in the mood, this thing about her ex really got the better of me because why the fuck would he even send her anything?

"Maybe you don't like talking about yourself, But you should've told me that you were thinkin' 'bout someone else"Tate McRae – You broke me first

My feelings for Lucy was more than I anticipated. I got angry, I got jealous… things I should not have felt. We only ever shared one kiss and I was acting like a love fool. I sigh as I sit in front of my computer staring blankly at the screen. What was going on with me?

I move my mouse and double click on Google Chrome, clicking on my link to Facebook. For a moment I stare at my page not fully knowing what I wanted to do. But an update of Laxus caught my eye.

Post Lucy's birthday, pre his birthday he indicated that he wanted to visit the ocean. It was something he did yearly just to get away. And to my surprise in his upload there was a video of Lucy in a swimming pool playing with her hair. I click on the post and I start to view the whole post.

He was at the beach, with the lovely Lucy. I narrow my eyes as I scroll through the pictures, none where the both of them are in the frame and mostly it was only the scenery but then there is this lonely video of Lucy in a swimming pool playing around in the water and then the last picture was a selfie they took. I couldn't help the jealousy that was filling me even if the whole picture didn't seem that they were romantically involved but rather as friend.

I'm not against my friend being with Lucy but the fact neither one of them said shit made me upset. I take a deep breath and move to his profile of which says he is still single. I roll my eyes as I bite the inside of my mouth. I had no right to be upset but I was angry.

I then try and search her on Facebook but she wasn't even on it. I narrow my eyes faintly remembering she said she deleted Facebook a while back when she broke up with her ex. I go back to the video and she seems so happy and unaffected by her surroundings as she innocently plays in the water in her bikini. I couldn't be jealous or angry. I had no right.

Then I decide to look up the other source of my anger lately. I type in Lucy's ex name and soon his profile pops up, his picture was old because he looked like he was still in high-school in the picture. As I open his profile I see a lot of information is not available which means he's most likely has his private settings in place. I roll my eyes again as I look to the little shit for brains that broke Lucy's heart.

I move back to Laxus' page and there is a lot of likes and comments and I open the comment setting, some asking if he had a new girl or was this a girl he met at the beach. I look over the comments and sigh again. There was nothing I could do. We both agreed it would only be sex, like friends with benefits.

How could I show any of my emotions if this was the case and I was starting to feel more then I should. And to think of it she didn't show that emotion back, she was flirty and fun and friendly. There was no indication in her to show that she felt more for me than a friend.

It was a little heart breaking to say the least. I take a deep breath and move over to YouTube. If I didn't stop thinking of this it would eat me. And I don't think I could handle that right now. I hear a knock on the door and look over my shoulder to see Lisanna poke her head in smiling at me.

"Hey love," she starts and I give her a faint smile back. "So I got Toby to bed…" she continues and that smile never leaves her lips, a smile I knew all too well.

"Oh is that so?" I say turning my chair to face her fully now, at this is steps into the room and I see her small frame in her robe. I knew what this meant, what this will lead to.

She takes a step closer and closer till she is finally able to sit on my lap and drape her arm around my neck. "We rarely get nights like these… maybe we should use it to its full potential?" she whispers leaning in until she places a soft kiss to my lips.

I had no urge to kiss her, I had no urge to want her because in my mind it wasn't her that I wanted. I slightly close my eyes and I see the blonde I wanted so badly…

There was a reason I started touching harder then I should… there was a reason why I picked up my wife and placed her on the table. To which she was not happy because this wasn't how we did things. My wife was old fashioned, I knew what she wanted and where… and that was in our bedroom with me on top in the boring missionary position… But I didn't give a fuck.

I took my wife hard, then and there on my desk, something I would never do with her but I kept my eyes closed because the reason was I wanted Lucy…
