Part One
As the final bell rang, Yugi finished with writing the rest of his notes. He was suddenly interrupted as a hand slammed down on the desk, causing him to jump and he snapped his head up in surprise. Joey let out a good natured laugh at his friend's reaction.
"I got ya, didn't I?"
"Joey, why would you do that?" Yugi asked.
"C'mon, Yugi, you need to lighten up."
Yugi opened his mouth to retort when Téa spoke up instead.
"You're so immature, Joey."
"Jeez, you guys seriously need to lighten up." Joey muttered.
"Look, classes are done for the day, so why not go hang out like we were planning to do?" Yugi cut in, trying his best to keep his friends from starting an argument.
"Yeah, what he said." Joey responded, instantly taking Yugi's side of the argument.
He then turned to spiky-haired boy with a smirk.
"I couldn't agree more with you. In fact, I don't know why YOU guys wanted to start the argument."
"What argument?" said Téa.
"You know.." Joey started, waving his hand dismissively, confusing his friends even further.
"What're you TALKING about?" asked Yugi.
"Eh, forget it."
"Um.. Okay?" said Yugi. "Well, the plaza shouldn't be too busy."
Yugi stood from his seat, taking a momentary glance to where Seto had been sitting, only to find it empty.
'Why has Kaiba been so cold lately? He really wants to get back at me, doesn't he?'
"Hey, Yugi, you okay?"
Joey's voice cut through Yugi's thoughts, causing him to turn back. He was surprised to see his friends gazing back with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine.. I'm just thinking about Kaiba.."
"Thinking about Kaiba? In what way?" Joey asked, a playful smirk on his face.
"That he still wants to challenge me to a duel.. Why? How ELSE would I think about him?" Yugi asked.
Joey frowned as Yugi seemed to not understand what he was getting at.
"Uh.. Nothing." said Joey, confusing Yugi a bit more.
Yugi continued to stare at him for a long moment before turning to look at Tristan and Téa who shrugged in response. Joey let out a sigh in response.
"Anyway, we should go." Yugi stated finally.
He turned and began to head for the door, only to run headlong into someone who was standing in the doorway.
"Watch where you're going!"
Yugi looked up to apologize, only to find himself face to face with-
"We just keep running into each other DON'T we, Yugi?" Seto stated, smirking slightly.
Yugi opened his mouth to respond when Joey stepped forward.
"What're you still doing here?" Joey challenged. "You just hanging around to wait for us to run into you?"
Seto only gave him a side glance in response, his smirk turning into a scowl.
"This is between me and Yugi Muto." Seto stated coldly. "So, I suggest you and your followers go elsewhere."
"Why I outta-!"
"No, it's fine," Yugi said, cutting Joey off.
He stepped between Joey and Seto to block Joey's advance toward the other teen. He then turned to Seto.
"Where did you want to meet up for the duel?"
Seto smirked again, causing Joey to scowl.
"Domino Pier."
Yugi and the others were taken aback by the choice of destination.
"What's the matter, Yugi? Not feeling up to going against me for another duel?"
Yugi's expression darkened slightly, as his darker self projected out to accept Seto's challenge. Seto looked at him a bit curiously as he thought he saw a glow emanate from them for a brief moment but had vanished just as quickly as it had appeared and Yugi grinned.
"I accept your challenge," he stated finally. "I'll see you at the pier."
Seto let out a chuckle as a smirk spread across his face.
"Then meet me at the pier at 5:00 sharp and we will finish this once and for all."
"I'll be there." Yugi countered, a dark grin spreading across his face.
Seto let out satisfied harrumph and turned to walk down the hallway. Yugi and his friends watched him before Joey lightly grabbed Yugi's shoulder, causing the younger teen to turn and look back at him.
"What the heck was THAT all about?"
"What?"
"You know, you had this weird look on your face."
"Weird look?"
Joey gave him a look.
"Honestly, Yugi.. I'm surprised you hadn't try to beat him up yet."
Yugi only stared at him before turning back to see Seto disappear around the bend of another hallway. He stared off toward that section of the hallway for a long moment before he turned to look back at his friends.
"I'll see you guys later."
As he began to leave, he could hear Yami again.
"Kaiba still acts as if we hadn't saved his soul or his brother's soul.."
'Kaiba still thinks that because we beat him in the duel that he needs to beat me in order to prove himself as a duelist..' Yugi responded. 'Maybe that's why he's so adamant about facing me in another duel.'
There was a long moment of silence before Yami spoke again.
"Are you ready, Partner?"
Yugi smiled in response.
'I'm ready.'
As Yugi made his way outside, he was instantly blinded by the sunlight, causing him to instinctively raise an arm up to shield his eyes. It took Yugi a moment for his eyes to adjust to the bright light and he allowed his arm to drop back down to his side. Gazing out into the front part of the campus, he could see other students milling about and talking amongst themselves. Yugi turned to look up toward the school's massive clock tower, just making out the sight of the time; 3:57pm, leaving him with only an hour to get to the pier.
Yugi let out a sigh and began to hurry off to meet up with Seto. However, as he began to leave the campus grounds, he was unaware of the man peering out from behind the side of the building. A smirk spread across the man's lips as he blew out a steady stream of cigarette smoke.
"So, that kid thinks he's gonna get away with what he did? We'll just see about that."
The man took another drag from his cigarette before stomping it out on the ground and following behind Yugi, trying his best to keep out of sight.
Author's Note: It might take me some time to continue since I've been a bit busy with different things and I still don't know much about the series.. I'll try to get more up soon..
*UPDATE*
Much like the previous chapter, it's been re-edited to try and make Yugi not sound so timid, which is a work in progress..
